It should be an interesting day of practice. Today, we will get to see whether Doug Free gets all or some of the snaps at right tackle. We will also see how the Cowboys plan to replace Ken Hamlin.
Fourth-year player Pat McQuistan also could get some reps when practice resumes Wednesday. Phillips also didn't rule out sliding over right guard Leonard Davis and filling his spot with either journeyman Montrae Holland or fifth-year pro Cory Procter."Leonard can play whatever you need him to play," Phillips said.
A fourth-round pick in 2007 from Northern Illinois, Free has never started an NFL game.
"I'm sure Doug Free has been dreaming for an opportunity," (Bradie) James said. "You never want to wish any misfortune on a player, but he's been practicing, working his tail off just to get an opportunity. He wants to show he belongs."
The candidates to replace Hamlin are fourth-year player Pat Watkins and third-year pro Alan Ball. Although Hamlin has had an up-and-down season, he's still regarded as the secondary's quarterback.

Any mention of Proctor makes me feel queasy.
The 2009 Dallas Cowboys: Talk to me in December.
The NFC East has won 11 Super Bowls; oddly none of those have come courtesy of the Eagles.
Speaking of sphinxter
Mention of Proctor gives me a sphincter spasm

No plan is a bad plan
the solution should have been mapped out before the injury
You're right...
Given the age of our OL, jerry and wade had to expect injuries. I hope we keep Davis in the left guard spot. He’s playing at an all-pro level there.

I disagree.
There is no way to have a concrete contingency plan for any possible injury outcome. Even if they did map up who the first backup was, sometimes when there is a role to be filled it is good to give a bunch of guys the chance to compete for it so you can get who is playing the best at that time. I wouldn’t want them to put Free in automatically bc he was the best backup in August, let him win it.
anyone thinking about bringing in John Runyon for a workout?

Moving David and filling in with Holland sounds good
At least much better than Proctor…….I have no clue how the hell that guy is still on the team (or any team).
Hamlin will not be missed!
I predict that either ball or watkins are going to make a big play on sunday….can you name me one play that Hamlin has made this year?

I have a challenging set of questions (if anyone is up to it)...
Let’s say Doug Free is indeed the starter at RT on Sunday. What happens if any of the remaining opening-day starters goes down (and I’m not just talking about an extended period of time like in Colombo’s case… even if just for a quarter or 2)? Answer each of the following scenarios…
What’s the plan if Flozell Adams gets hurt?
What’s the plan if Kyle Kosier gets hurt?
What’s the plan if Andre Gurode gets hurt?
What’s the plan if Leonard Davis gets hurt?
In the wake of Colombo’s injury, which of the following 4 starters named above do you think the Cowboys can now least afford to lose?
I think if Flozell get’s hurt they will put Davis in at LT and Proctor/Holland at RG.
If Kosier gets hurt they put in Proctor/Holland
If Gurode gets hurt they put in Proctor
If Bigg gets hurt they put in Proctor
Proctor may totally suck, but at least he can totally suck at more than one position
Looks like Buhler will be out and Volk will be doing kickoffs this week

Is it just me, or does it seem like whenever we have an injury
it becomes the biggest deal in the world and sinks our whole team, when other teams somehow keep chugging along?
I know there are different scopes of injury and some that you can’t really recover from, but for role players it seems like they always have a monster effect on us where as other teams just keep going. I don’t have any great examples, it’s just a feeling I get. Maybe bc I don’t read all of this stuff about other teams
