Dallas' ineptitude strikes again
GOTCHA!
If you made it this far you were going to slam me for being a "hater" or a pessimist, right? The Boys' played well yesterday and it feels good! While they weren't perfect and still need some improvement, they showed that they can play very good football for 4 quarters.
1. Since the Denver loss Romo has turned in some good performances. He hasn't had an INT and has for the most part been taking sacks instead of forcing the ball into tight coverage. He did make some bad throws yesterday that luckily didn't get picked off but for the most part he had a very good day. Romo has impressed me as of late.
2. Less penalties. Still a few but not crazy stupid.
3. The pass rush is on!!
4. Scandrick and Jenkins are players and hitting hard
5. Doug Free held his own, great to finally be able to get him involved to see what he can do.
6. TNew put a nice hit for a fumble - at least he did something right
7. Garrett is taking what the defense gives. That's why Dallas passed so much. Good decision, good play calling.
8. Austin is the man. This is a blast to watch. T.O. who?
9. Special teams - Joe, you get coach of the year
The defense still needs to improve. The DB's will get better still as the year goes on. This team is finally playing like a team. They have one another's back. Good stuff!

The whole team still needs to improve
They are capable of playing much better and will as the season progresses. They are still a work in progress, but I’m sure everyone will love the finished product.

identity is overrated
On the “Garrett is taking what the defense gives” idea, I really like what they said yesterday during the game, after all this talk about the team not having an identity, about them not wanting an identity, because it keeps everyone guessing what they are going to do. Garrett can device a different game plan each week, and then he and Romo adjust the plan based on what the defense is giving. Stop the run? We’ll pass all over you. Stop the pass? We’ll run all over you. Who needs an identity?

exactly
The team’s identity should be “pick your poison” because if you want to sell out to stop the run, fine, Romo will slice you to shreds.
You want to sell out to stop Romo, fine, our three headed running attack will maul you all day.
The opposing DC will decide their team’s own death.

Without T.O. the ball is being spread around
They are finally at mid-season starting to gel. The ball went everywhere yesterday, where is it going next? Lovin the mixing it up.

Theres no gelling going on there.

I agree
Heard so much for so long about the Boys being a run team and other teams thought they could then isolate Romo and that he couldn’t beat them. Always thought that was stupid. Romo can kill you.

I agree but would add...
they need to improve execution over time. I like where they are headed, but they need to continue the progress – good routes, continue the solid pass blocking, limit penalties…
If they can do that, they’ll challenge any team in the league.

+100
I think the improved use of all of our weapons and the unselfish “just win” mentaility of our players allows us to just take what they give and exploit it. No identity is necessary, just get the W’s.

Next week will be the test of tests
Next weeks game is a must watch, it will be a shootout! Hope our CB’s and safeties are ready. We need this division win!

I hope the team doesn't forget 44-6. I know I haven't.

this truly is the test. A nice yard stick game.
My gut says we can win it going away. But I am nervous…

They haven't forgotten
Jason Witten mentioned it in an interview on the NFLN. Said we haven’t fogotten about getting embarrassed up there last year.
I like it!

Marty B said the opposite in a locker room interview.
He said the past is the past and he doesn’t worry about it. New season, new team, that kind of stuff. I hope he was just trying to be optimistic and not that he truly didn’t care.

On #7 - passing so much
Total run/pass ratio for last year was 42.3% run and 57.7% pass
Only one game (Denver) this whole year has been THAT pass happy.
Game 1 – 52.9% pass
Game 2 – 50% pass
Game 3 – 50.7% pass
Game 4 – 62.6% pass
Game 5 – 56.6% pass
Game 6 – 50.8% pass
Game 7 – 55.3% pass
Average passing percentage for the year is 54.3
Dallas is slightly more run oriented than last year.

Agree
my gut also tells me we’re seeing a lot less shotgun formations compared to last year – I’ll dig through that data for a later post.

You're right
After achieving the #1 run offense defenses have been trying to stop the Dallas run. Garrett has switched up his game plan to pass. Romo and the WR crew have stepped it up and produced. Now teams have a hard decision to make. Stop the run? Stop the pass?

Because they're hitting their stride...
…and playing solidly as a team (with fewer penalties and big mistakes), they are going to be HARD TO BEAT.
We have tough games ahead of us, but I wouldn’t want to be any of our opponents…
by JohnnyRender on Nov 2, 2009 2:25 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I'd say they are hitting their stride at just the right time
The second half of the season has 6 tough games. Two against Philthy, one at the Giants, New Orleans, Green Bay and San Diego.
I say they win 4 out of the six and win both the Washington games and Oakland.
That puts Dallas at 12-4.
Something tells me they cough one up somewhere though.
11-5

The Boys' are certainly capable
of running the table but they are also a couple of injuries away from mediocrity and with so many hard hitting divisional games yet to be played, it would be hard to predict their record but I’m very hopeful.

You could use that swing pass to Felix
all day long to really P.O. a defenses pass rush. In the open he can beat a tackle one on one almost every time. The way he ran over Lucas was a bit frightening though. It was also great to have a Tree sighting. If all the receivers continue to make catches, they will need more footballs to go around. That’s not bad for a no-name receiving corps.
by oldboysfan on Nov 2, 2009 6:21 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I'd like to see that a little bit more also
Not sure if it’s a delayed pass or just a dump off pass, but he’s able to win most one on one match ups and get into the open field.
