How do you feel when the Cowboys play the Eagles?
My favorite Cowboys rivalry is the one against the Giants. I love the trash talking, there's almost always great football on both sides and it's just a really fun rivalry to me. When the Cowboys have beaten the Giants in recent years, they whoop them. Remember 2007? We beat them by 10 points and then 11 points in the regular season. The 2nd meeting in 2008? Our 'Boys didn't allow a single touchdown. Even the losses have been relatively close and competitive. With the exception of the (Brad Johnson-led) Cowboys loss in week 9 of 2008, the Cowboys lost to the Giants in the playoffs by 4 points and this year by 2. It's always an event I really enjoy, when the Cowboys and Giants play. Plus, I find Giants fans are usually a pretty classy group, so the whole atmosphere is set up perfectly.
Tony Romo is 4-1.5 (his first start was in the 2nd half against a loss to the Giants in 2006) against the Giants.
That's not how I feel about the Cowboys-Eagles rivalry. The Cowboys in recent years have put up some nice wins against the Eagles (@Philadelphia in '07: 38-17, @Dallas in '08: 41-37). What's frightening is that when the Cowboys have lost to the Eagles, they've bombed. One of the last games of the 2007 season ended with a 10-6 defeat. And then there was the 44-6 debacle this game in December last year where I don't really remember what happened...
Tony Romo is 2-3 against the Philadelphia Eagles, 2-2 when Donovan McNabb has been the quarterback (one loss came against a Jeff Garcia-led Eagles squad).
Not to expose myself as vulnerable to Bleeding Green Nation, but I'm usually more anxious (and angry) than excited when the Cowboys play the Eagles. Unfortunately, the recent losses overshadow the recent wins.
You know what else adds to my anxiety/anger of this rivalry? The Eagles' fanbase. I mean, the BGN members seem ok from my short time here (I'll know more about them after this week), but the general fanbase annoys me since they usually turn on their entire team the second something goes wrong and proclaim Super Bowl the second something goes right. Not to mention Michael Irvin, Santa Clause, etc. That may just be my opinion. But I've known some Eagle fans who are just flat-out DICKS.
Bottom-line: When the Cowboys play the Eagles, I feel uneasy.
How do you all feel when the Cowboys and Eagles play? Responses from both teams' fans are welcome.
P.S. - Eagle fans reading this, I acknowledge that you think Cowboy fans are classless, so please don't flood this FanPost saying so, as I have already made your point for you.
:)
Wow, sorry if this FanPost is a little sloppy.

Yeah, I agree with Terry. I HATE the Eagles. The fans just ooz disrespect
Remember Michael Irvin laying on the field, motionless while all the Philthy fans cheered? What other fans would do such a thing? This went on and on for 10 minutes, cheering. The man could have been paralized. I will never forget that. That was the lowest class of fans I can remember, except for the ice balls that used to get thrown at the players.

They cheered when he went down.
They cheered when he remained down.
They cheered when the paramedics strapped him in the stretcher.
It takes more than 17 seconds to load a patient up and transport him.

Because you are an idiot Eagles fan…
Haha, name-calling. You won’t see any name calling out of me… ever… and I’m an Eagles fan.
Anyway…
They cheered when he went down.
They cheered when he remained down.
They cheered when the paramedics strapped him in the stretcher.
That’s not what that article says at all.
It says…
Many fans in the crowd of 66,669 cheered when they realized Irvin was hurt, and again when paramedics wheeled a stretcher onto the field. Many also cheered respectfully when he was placed in an ambulance, but the damage was done.
So to say they cheered continuously for 10 straight minutes is just flat-out dumb.
Look, they cheered because a player got hurt, and that’s obviously despicable. OK? So we agree… But for 10 straight minutes? That’s just retarded. So stop being ridiculous. Thanks.

Funniest thing I've ever seen at a Philly sporting event...
And before I get to that, let me first pose this question… How is booing Santa NOT funny?
OK, moving along…
I went to a Phillies game back at the old Vet when I was just a kid, and it was “Glove Day,” meaning any kid under 13 got a a free glove (and they were the worst gloves on the planet, but I digress). Anyway, at the end of one of the innings, they pulled some kid out of the stands to try to catch pop-ups with his new glove for a McDonald’s promotion (Note – not sure if it was McDonald’s or some other fast food chain, but for the sake of the story we’ll use McDonald’s).
So… they explain the rules over the PA system. The kid gets 3 shots to catch a pop-up. If he catches 1, free fries for everyone in the stadium. If he catches 2, free cheeseburger for everybody. If he catches 3, free value meal.
So now that there’s something in it for the fans, everyone is totally into it, cheering the kid on, and there was a very palpable buzz throughout the stadium. They point the pitching machine into the air, and the first pop-up shoots way up into the air… The kid drops it.
“Booooooooooo!!!!!!!”
The fans regroup after the boos and cheer the kid on again hoping to salvage the cheeseburger. Ball number 2 in the air… Dropped.
“BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!”
No more encouragement now. The kid BETTER catch this one so at least we all get free fries… 3rd ball is up. Kid trips going after it, falls, ball lands 15 yards away.
“BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
It sounds kind of mean, but it was great.

And not to keep this debate alive any longer than it's already gone...
But when the Phillies got the last out of the World Series last year, there’s no way I cheered for 10 straight minutes. I went absolutely ape-poopy for a solid 2 or 3, but no way 10. Again, get a stopwatch, and just watch it for 10 minutes, and you’ll see how dumb it sounds to say they cheered for a guy laying on the field hurt for 10 minutes.

by Damnsammit on Nov 3, 2009 12:42 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Haha, destruction of the city? Not so sure about that one. I went to the parade (which consisted of over 2 million people, loose in the streets of Philly), and what I saw was amazingly peaceful – Just people having a great time celebrating a championship.
Can you go onto youtube and find isolated incidents of people breaking windows or tipping over a car? Yup, quite easily. Any time you have 2 million+ people loose in a city celebrating, any city that is… (even in Marshmallow Land, where lightposts are lollypops and bushes are gumdrops), there are going to be crimes.

Well when the Stars won the Stanley Cup...
The city of Dallas went nuts and threw a massive parade, but there wasn’t random idiots breaking into stores and cars. It was actually a peaceful parade, not just in the minds of the citizens, but it actually happened that way.
You are crazy if you think what happened last year in Philly was peaceful by any stretch of the imagination. Of course, you also fail to grasp how booing on and off for a 10 minute duration is disrespectful and keep thinking that people are literally saying that everyone in the crowd was constantly booing for the whole 10 minutes.
No one has the breath for that. Not even Rush Limbaugh.

Worst 2 games of the year for me
I live in South Jersey (prime Eagles country), so these games just kill me. I agree with Terry, I love beating the Eagles the most. I also hate losing to them the most.
Surprisingly though, I’m not that stressed this time. I would like the Cowboys to win this game (obviously), but I think it’s good for this team to have some hard times throughout the season. This team doesn’t have the discipline to keep working hard when times are good. It’s more important to me that they win the last game of the year against these guys.

Hated the Eagles since 1987
Before then, it was the Redskins. But ever since the Buddy Ryan days – and especially the fake kneel down touchdown pass in the closing seconds of a game the Eagles had already won – the Eagles are the most hated. I think Wade Phillips was the Def Coordinator for that team, BTW.
by doomsdayreturns on Nov 2, 2009 8:52 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I said this another post already...
But my true and unreserved hatred for the Eagles knows no bounds. I’m not a fan of the other teams in the division, but I can’t think of anything I find redeeming about the Eagles organization or, by and large, their fanbase (as evidenced by the way they treat their pro-bowl quarterback since the day he was drafted).
This time is about revenge. I want to go out there and punch them in the mouth from the first play, and humiliate them in front of their fans the way they did to us last year. No, worse. I want to win this game, and let’s go ahead and hold Tony and co. out of the last one because we have the division locked up.
If we only won two games in a year, I hope they would both be against the Eagles.
I have noticed a new resurgence in Cowboy hating in 2007, which can only mean one thing- We're back.

I’m right there with you bro. Ever since Butthead Buddy & them booing Irvin, I have hated them with a bloody passion, almost to the point of wanting to see harm brought to them.
I had a reprieve during the 90’s when we owned them, but that has come to an abrupt hallt and they have dominated us for the last decade, it’s sickening.
I’m getting pissed just rigting about it. If I was a player for the Boyz, I’d probably get suspended because I think I couldn’t help but pull some dirty shit on those A-holes.
What kills me is that our teams don’t seem to have anywhere near the hate for the Eagles as the Eagles do for us. I wish the coaches would stoke the fires within the players and remind them how the Eagles spit in our face and laugh everytime they get the chance

so like everyone else, the losses hurt extra hard but the wins – ah, the victories – are the sweetest.
Who can forget the Eagles dominating run over Dallas from 2000-2004 (9 out of 10 games)? And even when the Eagles were not very good, they’ve always given the Cowboys fits.

Like a beaten dog, waiting for impending doom. We are 6-14 vs Philly since 99 and we have lost every single meaningfull game against them during this span including several times when they were beat up and struggling (Lost the division on Xmas day of 06, got shellacked last year for a play off birth)
If the Cowboys could consistently play the Eagles like we did when we whipped them at their house in 07’, we could beat them (and anyone for that mater) every time.
I’m so discouraged, I expect another beat down. It kills me they have basically turned over most of their roster and appear to have passed us without ever having to go through a long re-building period. Just shows how much better they have been coached since Reid came on board.

Cowboys are my most hated team!
I have yet to meet a Cowboy fan who’s ever even been to Texas. These guys crop up out of nowhere wearing stars and talking shit like they somehow have some connection to a team in a city in a state that they’ve never even visited. They also tend to be the biggest homers in the world…I remember reading predictions on blogs last year of a 19-0 Cowboy season.
With that said, my interactions with you guys here are classy, so I don’t hold bad experiences with a few fans against the whole group.
Eagles fans get a bad rapport for being “fair-weather”. As a whole, that is grossly inaccurate! We are the most loyal fans, our season ticket turnover (or lack thereof) is a testament to the unconditional love the city has for the team. With that said, we are generally fair weather fans of specific players. We will call out guys who are not performing, but any passionate and educated fan has the right to do that, and I defend my right to call out McNabb for his bounce passes.
Always a good game with you guys…either we lose a hard fought battle, or we win big:) In all seriousness, it is very hard to game plan against you b/c you run and throw so well. Your defense is solid, not spectacular. The game can EASILY go either way, and I look forward to Sunday night!

It’s all about HEART AND SOUL, not locality.
I was a Cowboys fan (in Virginia) before I even knew how to spell Texas. As a little kid, I cried my eyes out when Staubach, Pearson, the Manster and company would lose a game. I bounced on my bed like it was a trampoline when Bob Lilly sacked Griese in the Super Bowl. As a little boy, I got a lump in my throat that wouldn’t go away for three days when Bradshaw and Swann beat us in the 70’s, yet at that time I had never been to Dallas or any where in Texas.
I’m persuaded that I’m as much a Cowboys Fan as Jerry Jones, if not more.

I don’t think that is true at all. Eagles fans are obviously very passionate and love their team as much as any fans in the league. They are also quite knowledgeable about the game, true also of Phillies and Sixers fans.
The bad rap that Eagles fans get is that they are flaming fracking @$$holes. I went to a Cowboys game in the Vet during one of Landry’s last seasons. I wore a cowboys hat and have never heard such vitriol. Guys (with their little kids next to them) calling me an F this and F that. I am thick skinned and didn’t really care. My point is that I have been to many games at Giants Stadium (and one at the Yale Bowl, that is how damned old I am) and even at RFK, among other places, and Eagles fans were by far the worst.

You have to take a look at the bigger picture…
The great organizations in this league all have had turns at being on top and on the bottom. Unfortunately for the Eagles, whenever they have had their turn at being on top it has not resulted in a Super Bowl championship.
For Example, the Cowboys had their first turn on top in the 70’s, which resulted in 5 Super Bowl appearances and 2 championships. The Eagles had a brief stint on top at the beginning of the 80’s; making it to Super Bowl 15 only to get hammered the Raiders 27-10.
For the rest of 80’s and early 90’s our other divisional rivals, the Giants and Redskins, took turns owning the division winning 5 super bowls between them, (the Skins w/ 3 the Giants 2).
Without question, the Eagles have owned the east for most of this 1st decade of the new century. The result for them has been to play in the NFC Championship 5 times in 8 years (at one point 4 years in a row). Unfortunately for them their record in that annual affair has been an abysmal 1-4 and the one Super Bowl they did make it to was another loss, this time to the Patriots in a game they honestly had a decent chance of winning. What’s worse is that only NFC east to win one this decade was the Giants (from a wild card position) and not them.
Compare and contrast that to the 90’s when Cowboys had their 2nd turn at owning the division for a decade; 4 NFC Championship games in a row, 92-95; a 3-1 record in those games and all 3 of their conference title wins were followed up by Super Bowl victories.
So historically speaking the Eagles are rather harmless and thus the team I hate the least of all in the division. For me, it was the Redskins when I lived in northern Virginia in the 80s, but now it is without question the Giants.
The Cowboys will have their turn on top again, perhaps this next decade, and the question is what will they do with their time on top? Perhaps win tittles 6 and 7? Time will tell but I have to hope that they will take better advantage of it than the Eagles did these past 10 years.
The 2009 Dallas Cowboys: Talk to me in December.
The NFC East has won 11 Super Bowls; oddly none of those have come courtesy of the Eagles.

Pretty good top-5 class coming in with all five in the top 70 in the nation. Some good returning experience in Davis, Thompson, Ginyard, and Drew. But this is more of a rebuilding year if anything, so a repeat may seem a lil far fetched but a sweet sixteen appearence does not seem out of reach. We will contend for the ACC title this year and expect us in 2010/2011 to look like heavy-weight contenders once again.

It ebbs and flows for me
Growing up in NYC, the Gnats are my historical rival, going to school in DC made the Foreskins preeminent in my disdain for a while. But I really started hating the Iggles in the Vermeil(pre-crying)/Jaws era. There was an undeserved(I felt)smugness to the team because it hadn’t really accomplished anything. Then they manhandled the Boys in an NFC Championship game at the Vet and it all changed.
The Buddy Ryan teams probably brought about my worst hate, they were dirty and I reveled in stomping them once we had the upper hand in the 90’s. But the new millennium has not been kind, so my loathing is tempered by, dare I say, grudging respect? I still hate them, but I can’t argue with the results.
Above all Philly still scares me. enough talent to win on that alone, their seem to scheme the Cowboys well, especially the departed DC, Johnson. And they’ve possessed an edge this decade that has served them well over us.
Ah, forget about all this analysis, let’s just go up their and punch ’em in the face.

Cowboys fan in Philly for 29 years.......
I was born in Massachusetts and lived there until I was 8 yrs old. Didn’t really know much about the Patriots, but discovered football watching the playoffs and immediately took to Tony Dorsett and the Cowboys.
about six months after I moved to South Jersey (30 minutes from the Vet), the Eagles played Dallas in the NFC title game. My father had all his new co-worker buddies over and they broke my balls the entire game. I was 8 yrs old. Wilbert Montgomery outperformed my hero, and I learned at a tender young age that Eagles fans are a$$holes. I swore I would always root for the Cowboys and against the Birds.
Now, 29 years later, I have several friends who are Eagles season ticket holders. My closest buddies are Eagles fans. My Dad adopted the Eagles when we moved here, so it’s interesting for me, to say the least. My best friend made a point this week of telling me that he had an extra ticket to the game but he refused to give it to me. When the Eagles beat Dallas, I just don’t answer my phone all night. It’s brutal. But the times when we win…….I just walk around extremely smug for a couple of days. It’s really like two holidays a year for me. It’s a big time. My birthday is next week, and I will go over my parents house on Sunday and watch the game with my old man. He’ll make some Quincy Carter jokes and I’ll do the mock Bird dance like TO after we win……it’s a lot of fun.
I know one thing: I get to watch my team on Thanksgiving and he doesn’t. lol

My favorite moment ever though.....
Was the Tommy Hutton game. I had all my Eagle fan friends over for that one. My one friend John picked up my bass guitar and started playing “Another One Bites the Dust” as they were lining up the FG.
The look on everyone’s face was so priceless when Hutton fumbled the snap. There was this moment of dead silence in the room. And then I just busted out with the most natural hysterical laughter in my life. It was so funny. And luckily, I also knew the bass line for Another One Bites the Dust.
Great night.

Might want to learn about your NFL history. The Eagles have won 3 NFL titles.
The Cowboys were founded almost 30 years after the Eagles. So I guess it might be understandable that some Dallas fans were unaware that the NFL existed before then… :)

But unfortunately for you guys the Eagles, of this decade, have been more like the Vikings of the 70’s or Bills of the 90’s (almost but not quite). They certainly don’t belong in any conversations concerning some of the best teams this league has seen.
Honestly it’s rather surprising to me as that the Eagles have gone this long without a title. They’ve have had some damn good teams over the past 30 years. It’s not like we’re talking about the Lions here.

It's funny you write this post
I was having this discussion the other day. I find Eagles games against the Giants to be serious business and generally more stressful, whereas games against Dallas are always fun. There’s more trash talk and goofing around.
Games against the Giants always seem to have so much on the line. We’ve met them in the playoffs a couple times in recent years, so I’m sure that adds to it.

57-7...the score Dallas Beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Philly in 1967...
LMAO@Dawkins…Now please say it aint viable…please say it was so lo ng ago that it dont matter?…If all you clowns in Philly would just take a look at how patheticand except for the WS last year your team(well actually your NFL-team) has consistently choked, and I mean choked hard as the only representative of the NFC-East to have actually gone to the SB and never, NEVER, EVER won it, it really must be frustrating to your fans to be the LOSERS…Just admit it Dawkins, your whole outlook on this article was to refute the fact that you guys are a classless, disrespectful, and un ruly crowd…Booing Santa Clause, and then trying to justify it after you seen how stupid and foolish that act was has not simmered down with the rest of the fan bases around the country…Cheering as a player, not sure whether he would ever walk again, lay lifeless, and hurt on a field not of Gladiator Games where the more blood spilled the happier the crowd(remember ancient Rome)…No it was on a field where entertainment(where people are supposed to be having fun, and you clowns jeering, and making noise of any kind, just seemed so barbaric…I remember a game between the New York Jets, and the Detroit Lions, when a player was injured, and in less time than it took to run off the field the players were not only holding hands with each other on both sides of the field, praying for the player, but the whole Stadium was silent as they prepared that man for the ambulance…So go ahead and justify that lack of sense, and outrageous indignity, and then when your city can no longer afford to hold games where the fans have no SELF_CONTROL whatsoever, then you can come back and say…“It wasnt for 10 minutes”…it dont mater whether it was for 10 minutes 10 seconds, or 10 days, in FilthyVille, your lives are so wrapped up in winning Sports contests that lives, and the impact of your selfish-ness as a city will come back to haunt you(it already has to a certain degree)…I mean when some of your best players, who you guys hold to the utmost degree of perfectionism(McNabb, Jaworski) are booed ridiculed, and disrespected as you guys do, I dont believe it will be much longer that the NFL rules committee will have to step in and impose RULES against your rude and raucous manners…Is that what you want, Dawkins?…is that truly what you guys in FilthyVille want?…For the NFL to fine the Owners of the She-Gals responsible for rude, and unsportsmanlike fans?…could happen, maybe, maybe not?…How long you think Jeffrey Lurie would keep paying that fine if it were stiff enough before he started monitoring the fan base?…Laughing are you?…Like the article said, they already have a municipal judge holding hearings and fining people at the games on game night?…I will tell you this, I would hate for the NFL to do that in Dallas, make rules against rude fan behaviour…In Dallas we try our very best to put our best foot forward, and show our representation of our city in a very pleasant, and appealing to other fan bases…We would never cheer(I say that with a lot of confidence, and pride, Mr. Dawkins) if a player was hurt, or a charity event like bringing in a Santa Clause to help those less fortunate than we are…Yes we have booed our team in the past, and will probably do so in the future, but it has always been in the spirit of team and city…Not in the spirit of meaness, and frustration at being the perrennial losers your city is…Mr. Dawkins, your ignorance (except for the lack of football knowledge) is so damnable when you talk the silly talk you do, about those incidences, and the down-playing of them, it is truly beyond the sphere of rational adults on here to make you understand the importance of the impact that our behaviour has on not only our city, but on our lives, and the lives of our children…That being said, I would like to spend some time, assessing the game coming up on Sunday…We always have a good, and exciting, and for the last several years, very frustrating(but in a civilized fashion) the beating we have taken from your She_gals…I really think the Cowboys will come out on top of this game because of the solidifying quality we have achieved under this “Cupcake” coach…I said before the season even began, that this team is far and away a better team this year, than it was last year, because of “disinfecting” the lockerroom the way the Jones have…Our additions have given us way more leadership than we have had in a long, long time…Whereas the She-Gals, while exceptionally talented, they lack maturity, and they lack experience…One guy said it first, and I will just repeat it again…you have the talent to win, but your experience makes you losers…Look at the Raiders game, and you will see what I mean, loud and clear…So, thats my opinion, and I have only one thing left to say…FEAR THE STAR

Re: Bishop, and OCC, and APS...
Dawkins downplaying Michael Irvins injury, and their rude behaviour, for what ever stupid, justification they give it is still the epitomy of boorish, and child-like minds…He pissed me off when he tried to refute not the fact that it was done but the meaningless amount of time…(whether it was 10 minutes 10 seconds or 10 days doesnt matter) the fact that it happened AT ALL is the main thrust of the article…Grady did a good job of downplaying the incidents with a mere mention of them, but like I said up there, it hasnt really sunk in to the fan bases at other cities, when they have to allow their team to go up to “that Filthy Place” and play a rivalry that might cost a player, or a coach or a referee his life…I remember the whiskey bottle that was thrown by that fan in Minnesota that year, when Dallas beat the Vikings(the one where Roger Staubach threw the “Hail Mary” to Drew Pearson)and hit that referee in the head…I would not put it past a fan(s) of the She_Gals to do that “en masse” to our team…Its not right, its not legal, and its out-right barbaric for them to do the things that they do without repercussions coming from somewhere…We in Dallas have had our moments where we shared our frustrations with the Cowboys and their “special” ways of losing but NEVER, mind you have we ever did the heinous “crimes” that they do in Filthydelphia…I believe all in all that if I were commissioner of the NFL it would be one place for me to do some HouseKeeping, and clean this mess up…Geez, they even let a felonious sort like Mike Vick play for them, in the sense of winning strategy…How low can a team like Filthyville go before they resort to more “criminal” approaches to winning…As I type, I see that it will do little good to blind, ignorant, barbaric, crowds such as they, but I like to keep them reminded of their assinine actions, and continue to point out to them until they get to the mind set of civility like the Majority of the rest of America, the will always be PERRENIAL, and Justifiably a LOSER city…JMO…FEAR THE STAR…Now I would like to apologize to all those who in Filthydelphia I have offended who have been trying to make a better fan base of their team(in particular the She_Gals)…I would like to extend my hand to all of the fans who can respect the Game for what it is, and give it nothing more than their hearts beat, but accept it without prejudice, WIN or LOSE…it is entertainment from the outset to the finish, and should be relegated that status in our lives…But we will see other fan bases mirror their stupid mistakes, and react similarly to those that the Filthydelphia crowd has already…I just hope and pray we never experience that kind of loss of SELFCONTROL here in Dallas…
