Someone who gets a pass and someone who doesn't (poll)

Romo gets a pass.  I'll go even further: I'll give him a pat on the back.  He played through a sore back, had a relatively low turnover game, and led his team to victory in the end.  There were many a time he avoided the rush and receivers still weren't getting open.  He didn't get frustrated and force a pass.  He smartly threw the ball away.

Yes he overthrew receivers, but lets not forget he got nailed in the back early in the game and soldiered on.  This wasn't his best game, but he let our defense win the game for us and played smart.  And that is why he gets a pat on the back.  He played a smart game.

Star-divide

Roy doesn't get a pass.  I'll go even further: Roy should be benched.  At some point you have to cut your losses and move on.  He has been playing for this team well over a year and has done close to squat.  That is absurd.  And this "clicking" excuse is equally absurd.  I have never heard in my life of a "pro-bowl caliber" receiver taking this long to click with a QB.  Has the ball been thrown perfectly to him all the time?  No, but in the NFL receivers are expected to adjust to the ball when it is thrown over the other shoulder.  That is what "pro-bowl caliber" receivers do.  Heck that is what backup receivers do.  And when the ball is thrown perfectly he still drops the ball.

At least with Crayton you have someone who you can depend on.  You can't depend on Roy.  At least with Ogletree you have a young receiver who can make plays with his feet and run proper routes.  With Roy you are lucky if he doesn't quit on his routes.  It's time to make switch.  What says you?

Roy doesn't get a pass

And Romo should stop throwing to him regularly.

yup bench him...

I said this a few weeks back and got hammered by a select few..RW never goes and attacks the football..he is SOFT..

by scandrick32 on Nov 22, 2009 5:41 PM CST reply actions

Good to see someone with some sense giving Romo a pat on the back

He played terrible for most of the game (hurt or not) but all that matters is that he led a game winning 4th quarter come from behind TD drive. That is ALL that matters.

And yes, Roy is just…..I don’t even know. Maybe a stint as the #3 WR will do him good.

If anyone ever has tried to throw a football with a sore back

then you realize just how gutsy and tough Romo’s performance was.

Cowboys aren't going to bench RW

Just isn’t going to happen no matter how bad he plays.

If RW hinders there chances of winning games in december then they will have no choice but too bench his lazy @@@

At least bench at the start of the game to send him a message…its ridiculous to con’t to let him kill drives by his dropped balls…

Don't underestimate Jerry's desire to win...

If HE ever feels like Roy is costing this team then Roy will be taking a seat.

I still don't know if I want to bench him

but I’m no longer wondering when him and Romo will click. This is ridiculous.

lol..if we bench Roy we will have the most ridiculous 3 WR offense to ever walk the field.

Ogletree/Hurd undrafted

The guy who signs the checks

won’t accept RW on the bench. I’m not ready to bench him yet either. We might just need him. This isn’t the point in the season where you start making changes.

by Benthere on Nov 22, 2009 6:18 PM CST reply actions

Yep...

Plus, are you telling me you want Crayton on the field as the number two? Honestly?

Maybe its just me but I will pass. Roy is not playing well right now but Crayton wouldn’t even be able to come close to the passes Roy had thrown his way today. And even with his bad mistakes last game Roy still put up 100+ yards pretty easily. That is just something that Crayton cannot do.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

nope i keep crayton in the slot

I like too see more hurd and ogletree on the outside…At the very least give those 2 more reps at RW’s expense

I will spot you that he has not played well very often

but I thought he surely played well in Philly and has showed flashes against GB, Tampa, and Seattle.

I would bench him against the Raiders.

Would be a good game to do it.

Houston benched Steve Slaton for fumbling. That’s pretty much the same thing as benching a WR for dropping passes.

He’s supposed to be the possession WR for this team, pick up 3rd downs, make tough grabs over the middle. If they want to keep Crayton in the slot, give me Hurd. Work some Ogletree in here and there still, and get the message across to Roy.

The team really has nothing to lose.

i agree.

I really would like to see what Hurd can do. I just think him and Romo have better chemistry.

We have to stop coming out so slow. Tried of defending Roy and still trying to figure out what he excels at.

I’m just really impressed with him. Really quick and runs greats routes.

by quincyyyyy on Nov 22, 2009 7:35 PM CST up reply actions

I like Ogletree, too but I think they would move Hurd up if anyone.

Before Austin blew up, it seemed like they were trying to get Hurd in. Really, I think any of us would like any of them in. Just some sort of change would be nice, before it costs us a game. He’s already killing drives.

Damn, we need a 3rd-down WR!

Roy should be cut after the seaon to get his salary off the books.

I am embarrassed that he went to UT.

Ridiculous

Last year, everyone was blabbering on about how the OTHER #1 WR was the source of our downfall.

Clearly, it’s okay to blame the catcher but not the pitcher here.

And how injured was Romo against the Packers?

Pffft

Dude are you serious

besides one good game. What has T.O done? Miles Austin has done more this year than T.O. and Roy. Why is that? Maybe because both of them are just not that good.

by quincyyyyy on Nov 22, 2009 9:59 PM CST up reply actions

The point was right there and you just whiffed at it

This was not about comparing WR’s, it was about comparing the situations and how the blame never seems to land on Romo in these situations.

The fact is, as Raf put it in his lead in on another post, Romo was and is erratic. His footwork is a mess and he’s mustered all of 2 TD’s in 2 games. I don’t care how bad you are as a WR, Romo could use him to look off safeties, pitch it to any number of other weapons, but no. He goes 15 of 27 and it’s all Roy’s fault?

I have come to think Roy is a far lesser talent than he was ever made out to be, but he’s no bust. And even if he was, teams overcome bad players.

Break down Romo’s game today and you’ll see he was spraying the ball all over the place.

While RW isn’t playing his positions well, Romo is certainly not playing HIS well either.

by Terry on Nov 22, 2009 10:39 PM CST up reply actions

Chicken before the egg...

What if Romo is forcing his throws to receivers he deems are open (because he has to get rid of the ball) because the WRs are not open? If his options are limited because say Austin is not beating double teams, Crayton is non-existent, JWitt is constantly “bracketed”, RW is not reliable then what does Romo do? He risks being inaccurate to make a play. It’s a risk that can win or lose games.

The difference is: Romo has the opportunity to make up for his mistakes. He can throw three picks and come back to win the game because he (during passing plays) is in control. A receiver has limited opportunities to affect the game. When key third-downs are dropped, they can not be made up unless the QB goes to them again.

Let RW sit the 1st quarter on Thursday

Romo wasnt great today. Dont think anyone is going to that, not even Terry. He did play a gutsy game though. I think Red Ball needs to quit reading the newspapers and blogs (and Jerry) so much. Im all for seeing more running plays thrown into the mix, but it seemed like it was forced today.
Seems like I remember part of the reason for bringing Kitna in as the #2 QB was to help Romo and RW get on the same page. And it also seems like the main advice supposedly given was to just throw it up high and RW will come down with it. Seems like thats what he got today. Granted Romo was off target a little today, and has been in several games this year, but when you get both hands on the ball YOU SHOULD CATCH IT, period.
Let RW sit for the first quarter on Thursday. If things are going well, keep on the bench for the first half. When you do bring him in, get him a couple of passes, dont force anything, but work him into the mix. If he has an obvious drop like today, sit his ass right back down. Send the message. We are paying you to be a premier receiver. If you cannot live up to it you are going to sit, period. If he’s the competitor he needs to be, to indeed be a premier receiver, he’ll get his act together.

After todays game

I have to agree with the guys who were in favor of benching Roy. I know it won’t happen, but he stunk it up out there. No more excuses for this guy. He doesn’t catch the damn ball, sometimes he doesn’t even see the damn ball. He’s not a #1 WR, he’s not even a decent #2 WR right now.

I’d rather see Romo throw to Crayton, Austin, Witten, Bennett, Hurd, and Ogletree before Roy wastes another opportunity drops another catchable ball. That’s how far Roy has sunk in my opinion. I really thought he’d come out and play with some fire after his costly mistakes in the GB game. He failed.

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.

by APerfectStar on Nov 23, 2009 12:15 AM CST reply actions

RW doesn't seem to me to be the kind of personality

you bench and get favorable results. I could be wrong..but I think he would go all TO and start blaming Romo for the passes he’s been getting., kind of like a few weeks ago. I think it might be better to ride this train a couple more weeks and see if the results change. Of course that’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.

by Benthere on Nov 23, 2009 12:38 AM CST reply actions

That may may very well be true

But whatever they are doing to motivate him right now isnt working. The Cowboys have bent over backwards to accomodate this guy and he just isnt showing up. And even if Roy went “all TO” he doesnt strike me as the type to able to pull it off. He doesnt have the charisma TO has, he doesnt have the numbers to back it up, and I doubt he has the support of the locker room. Ever since TO’s departure, Romo has done a good job of spreading the ball around. So why would anyone in that locker room have RW’s back if he pitched a TO type temper tantrum?

by WB3forMB3 on Nov 23, 2009 8:23 AM CST up reply actions

But unlike TO nobody supports him in the locker room

if he got benched he would be screaming into the wind

by quincyyyyy on Nov 23, 2009 9:14 AM CST up reply actions

Said this before the Philly game. . .

Bench Roy. I got torn up about it, too. Now the majority agree with it. Go figure.

And no, I am not saying it WILL happen — I am saying it SHOULD happen.

Big difference.

by dfan77 on Nov 23, 2009 1:48 AM CST reply actions

I agree that RW is not earning his keep...

and has been downright pathetic. RW needs to “make plays” …adjust to the throw….I.E. catch the ball before it hits you in the facemask….LOL. HOWEVER…He did come through 2 weeks ago in Philly,so I’m not ready to dump him quite yet. He does need to step up his game…SOON!!!
