Oakland @ Dallas - A Trap Game if I ever saw one

Oakland has never lost to the Bengals in Oakland 10-0.

Oakland has never lost at Dallas 3-0. Oakland has a new QB that can actually manage a game. They got back all their starters last week. They have some talented players on that team and a solid defense.

The way Romo has been playing the last two games and with his back hurting, this doesnt' look too good. He needs to pull it together.

The WR's just are not getting the job done against good CB's, especially Roy Williams. I know, he needs to go. I feel the same, but he's here now and know one else is stepping up the last two games.

Witten is a gametime decision. Not liking that. I think that he'll play, with some effectiveness but not the same Witten.

Greg Ellis against Doug Free. Yep, this will be something to watch. Hope Romo feels better cause he will have to move a bit.

I hope Dallas puts on a show. Don't we all?

How can every game be a trap game?

I don't believe in trap games

Players know that every week is a must win.

by mhuff13 on Nov 25, 2009 1:25 AM CST reply actions

So what explains it. . .

When the team loses a “trap” game? They suddenly got bad? The stat sheet didn’t hold up.

Seriously, I’d love a thoughtful answer.

by dfan77 on Nov 25, 2009 4:03 AM CST up reply actions

I'll attempt a thoughtful answer since no-one else is...

The term ‘trap-game’ is completely subjective. It seems that virtually every time we play an opponent with a lower record than what ours currently is a number of people state "oh-no trap-game".

Teams with lower records beat teams with higher records every single week in the NFL. Are these all trap-games? If a team loses to a team with a lower record does that unequivocally mean that they were complacent and fell into a trap? Perhaps the lower ranked team just had a good game, some good luck, good health, good game-plan etc, etc.

So when you ask; "So what explains it when a team losers a trap game?". You’re putting your own opinion on what type of game it is and as mhuff13 stated he doesn’t believe that’s an accurate description. Trap-game fatigued posters like us probably mostly see your question like this; "So what explains it when a team losers a game?". Without a subjective description the answer is simple; the other team played better.

If Dallas loses to Oakland it won’t be because of secret complacency or a lackadaisical approach it will be because Oakland simply played a better game.

Blah Blah........

Who cares…. I know one thing Oakland is a underestimated team and we are bang up good from our Qb to our best tight end on further down….

What make it worst is the fact we need this win to keep the lead in the division. TRAP GAME or TRAP TEAM we need this win!!!!!!!

by lostar2009 on Nov 25, 2009 4:48 PM CST up reply actions

I just don't buy the idea of trap games for anyone but fans and media

So you’re telling me that after days watching video on the Raiders, simulating practice against the Raiders, planning strategy on how to attack the Raiders, talking about nothing but the Raiders….the players are thinking about the Giants?

I think ‘trap’ games are nothing more than an excuse for losing to a bad team.

by mhuff13 on Nov 25, 2009 11:02 AM CST up reply actions

I actually think Dallas will play like a team possessed

Then know December is right around the corner and they have to turn this thing around on offense in a hurry. I think that along with the short turnaround will have this team extremely focused. I’ll bet we see a good game out of them.

Epic Fail since 1985

by the red scare on Nov 25, 2009 1:50 AM CST reply actions

I agree

Especially with the use of the word “possessed.” I think that’s spot-on.

It’s the next three games I worry about. And after that, I worry about our ability to recover from some losses.

by dfan77 on Nov 25, 2009 4:04 AM CST up reply actions

Trap game is when you riding high and playing well then you enter a game where the opponent is substantially worse. Take em for granted and you lose. Cowboys are sucking and hurt. Far from a trap…

This is more like a trap ;)

After reading extended, LONG winded fanposts, your phrase probably sums it up best.

Although your right about most those things but I dont see them not playing good

On offense if for no other reason that it would be hard to play 3 straight games that badly on offense.

Oakland likes to play allot of man coverage and I think that benifits the boys. Capable passing teams like Diego picked them apart with that style of D. Even if Witten is out or limited I cant see them staying with our recieving core and rbs out of the backfield. Other than Asomogh that secoundary is suspect.

I wouldnt be suprised if it takes a quarter or more to get in a goof flow but I’ll be really suprised if tDallas doesnt score over 20 in this game.

Maybe I’m the only person left thats not given up on Roy Williams. How was he suppose to catch anything last week when the passes were not even close? I thought the only legit oppertunity he had was on that corner/fade route where he still had 3 guys on him and would have had to make an over the shoulder catch. The others were tipped or high and over the middle. The same type of passes that got his ribs cracked. I love Romo but I agree with Williams when he says most the time his passes are hig, low or out of reach. Give him some legit chances.

This is not one of those trap games...

The green bay game was a trap game comming off the big win in philly..The way the offense has played over the last 2 weeks there is no way the cowboys can take any team lightly right now..After a 7-6 win at home against a bad wash team takes the " trap game" out of consideration for this week.

I guess the catch phrase for the 2009 NFL season is "trap game"??

Jesus. Hopefully you guys find something better to talk about next year. I’d be happy never hearing this stupid phrase again.

I'd like to see

a real effort to get the ball in the open field to Felix and Tashard. Screens to them should be used alot more than it has, and it will stifle the blitzing a little bit. Get the ball in they’re hands, and they will know what to do with it.

Trap or no trap

If we only score 7 points this week, I think we lose! Our DEF can only hold teams off for so long (not that OAK has an explosive offense) and we may not get lucky with missed FGs this week.

They need to get the offense in sync this week to get some confidence going into the long week prior to the Giants game. If they can put some points up on OAK, that could go a long way.

If you just score 14 points in 2 games...

I don’t know if any game is a trap game.

If there isn’t concern, than this team needs to be blown up.

Okay Okay... LAYING OFF THE TRAP

Let down game

Taken for granted game

Overlooked game

Should beat them easy game

Less talented team game

and on and on and on….

by torchindefenses on Nov 25, 2009 5:28 PM CST reply actions

Well just to play devil's advocate

Any loss is a let down
in a 16 game season, is any game taken for granted?
Overlook when all you do is talk and think about that team all week?
With parity in the NFL, no week is a ‘should beat them easy’. Ask the Saints against Rams
I’ll give you the less talented

by mhuff13 on Nov 25, 2009 5:57 PM CST up reply actions

I'd like to see Felix run at 100%

Hope this guy gets healthy soon. He’s been as slow as molasses compared to his old self. They should be playing Choice more, he’s healthy.

mhuff13

Yes, it’s all mentality. It’s a mindset and it happens ALL the time in the NFL. Marty Schottenheimer said it this week. I’ve heard Parcells, Ditka, Gruden and Phil Simms talk about teams having let down weeks against lesser opponents. Dallas has a propensity to do this. It’s a fact. No, I don’t think teams prepare less, coaches think that it’s the mindset that is the let down.

OVER CONFIDENCE because the other team sucks.

by torchindefenses on Nov 25, 2009 6:43 PM CST reply actions

Raiders

Rank near last in run defense. Gradkowski is the starter (let that sink in.)

The Raiders will have to win on the road, coming off a big win for them (gifted to them by CIN) and a short week to prepare.

Even if the Cowboys come out flat as a pancake, they can still take out the Raiders. Not saying the Cowboys can’t lose, but it would take a monumentally bad game for it to happen.

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.
