Roy Williams=Keyshawn Johnson

Bust.

Star-divide

I've been withholding judgement all year,  but after the last few games I've made up my mind we got hosed on the Roy Williams trade. A first, third, and sixth and we ended up with a little quicker version of Keyshawn. He might not even be as good as Keyshawn. Even though it will never happen, it's time for Jerry to admit his mistake and move on. We could have a very good offense if we had a WR to complement Austin.

The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!

Yea cut RW and go with Crayton or Hurd?

I guess we want our entire WR corp to be undrafted free agents. It can be Austin, Hurd, and Ogletree.

Roy just needs a swift uppercut to the chin..

and then he will start catching the ball again… but all seriousness WTF happened he used to catch the tough passes and now he can rarely get a grab on a ball, its very disappointing

I still say those ribs are talking to him..

And why is it after a nice win when it looks like we’ve corrected some of the very things people on this blog complain about we get even MORE negative posts? Just can’t stand prosperity?

When he was here

keyshawn was pretty solid for this team. Very reliable and left it all out on the field. He played with a signfiicant injury much of his last year i believe. Frankly, I think all we need is keyshawn type play from Roy and we will have a perfect complement of wrs. If Roy equaled Keyshawn, we’d be set at wr for the next decade.

Yes yes it would be nice if Romo was slightly more accurate when throwing his direction, but Roy has been constantly hurt while with this team.

getting rid of RW would be

cutting your nose off to spite your face. Is he worth what we are paying him and what we gave up for him? no, but he’s better than every WR on our roster not names Miles Austin.

Dead on...

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Keyshawn

Should be insulted by the comparison.

Key is what Roy Williams was supposed to be. A big guy who moved the chains, had dependable hands, and blocked well. Currently, Roy blocks well. I’m not saying Roy is chopped liver or anything, but look at the career Key had:

814 catches, 10,571 yards, 64 TDs.

No full season below 815 yards (his rookie year no less).

Four 1,000 yard seasons, two other 900+ yard seasons.

Roy currently had one 1,000 yard season in almost 6 years. Besides that, two 800+ years and then seasons totaling 687, and then about 400 last year and 400 so far this year.

Roy is also injury-prone, something Keyshawn never was. Keyshawn missed probably 5 games in his entire career.

I understand the comparison that Roy’s a faster Keyshawn, but honestly the amount of extra speed Roy has doesn’t make up for everything else that Keyshawn did better than Roy does.

Keyshawn did talk a lot and got himself deactivated. More of the T.O. type in that regard. But he was also more of a T.O. in a statistical regard to, in the fact that he actually did produce stats. So far, Roy has not. I’m not saying he can’t, but at this point, comparing Roy to Keyshawn is an insult to Keyshawn and what he did in his career. I’d much rather have Keyshawn in his prime than Roy (who is in his prime right now, sadly), and that’s not meant as an insult to Roy, but more as a compliment to Keyshawn. Keyshawn is one of the best possession WRs in recent history in my opinion. Roy has a long way to go to become that. Can he? Yes. Will he? We’ll see.

Although I'm a bit disappointed at RW's production thus far...

… I prefer to wait til the end of this season — and maybe next season, too.

Is playing smart too much to ask?

Roy Willie...

Give the dude a break already. He played badly against Wash and GB and he knows it (along with everybody else). If Dallas makes Miles Austin the #1 and allows Roy to make plays in the redzone as well as catch some slants and smoke routes he will be just fine as a #2. Is that what we traded for? No it isn’t, but to go with Crayton instead would be just stupid considering how much more potential Williams has.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

+1

The cowboys offense bogged down when they tried to run it through Roy but once the focus was back on Miles, the O blew up. The big play was back and Roy got a TD so as long as he shuts up and accepts that he is not the #1, he will have a chance to contribute.

by Billito on Nov 28, 2009 7:44 AM CST up reply actions

agreed.

Roy is 60-70 catch, 1k yard, 6-8 td guy..

I think it is what we traded for. T. O. was the #1 who just signed a fat new contract. Roy was brought here to be a #2.

by elharpo on Nov 29, 2009 7:55 AM CST up reply actions

Agreed

He scored a TD against Oakland and had over 100 yards against Green Bay. He’s also made more than his share of mistakes, but the dude is only 27 and has played for the Lions his entire career. He needs to get better—for sure—but he is coming along. If you watched him at Texas you know he is a top-notch athlete.

by Taoboy on Nov 29, 2009 8:13 AM CST up reply actions

Roy's clearly the #2 here

And I’d say he produces on par with most good #2 options in the NFL. Yes, he’s grossly overpaid, and yes we gave up way too much to get him. But if you look at his numbers compared to the vast majority or #2 receivers in the league, he’s doing pretty well.

He may be awfully expensive to keep around as the #2 guy, but Jerry was willing to pay him and TO big bucks to be the starting receivers here. I don’t see why he can’t do the same thing, except with Austin replacing TO.

Epic Fail since 1985

by the red scare on Nov 28, 2009 1:49 AM CST reply actions

bingo

yes, Jerry got hosed on the deal. But the dude isn’t garbage. He’s had a rough year, but it’s way too early to close the book on him. If he’s the #2 WR for this team, I can absolutely live with that.

and I don’t know about anyone else, but I think the whole “bench Williams for Ogletree/Hurd” comments are completely dumb. Neither guy is better than RW right now.

If Keyshawn Johnson is on BTB

He’s going to find you and slap you in the face.

Keyshawn was about the slowest receiver I’ve ever seen, and he just wouldn’t shut up, but he played hard and battled for the ball. Roy Uno Uno just seems indifferent – like the ball needs to come to him or it’s not his responsibility. I was a big supporter of bringing him here; I was very wrong.

he was brought here to be #2

until a certain popcorn lover left…with being the #1 as his inheritance…..yes it was a lot to give up for him and what he’s produced, but think for a minute about what this O was supposed to be this year..TO,RW, and Crayton as WRs..RW is the #2 and that’s what he was to be for 2yrs at least…..

i liked keyshawn and glenn combo. both amazingly underrated.

by DavidLaFleur on Nov 28, 2009 1:19 PM CST reply actions

I thought Keyshawn was solid

but Glenn was always the guy that was truly under appreciated. He could get open right off the line and was a good enough route runner to be a very reliable WR. I will always remember watching Glenn play the Falcons in 2006 (Tony’s first half-year) and seeing how Atlanta simply could not cover him. T.O. had a huge night as well, but Glenn was the more reliable guy for easy pitch and catch. It is scary to think how deadly that 2007 team could have been had Glenn been healthy the whole season. He would have forced teams to respect his speed and not just double T.O. to death (even though T.O. handled it pretty well that year). That offense would have been one of the all-time greats.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Nov 29, 2009 1:14 AM CST up reply actions

The difference is

When Meshawn was in Dallas, he had no problem going over the middle in traffic. Roy needs to stay outside the numbers. The CBS pregame breakdown pointed out his game is much better when he doesn’t go across the middle, and sure enough, he made a damn good catch up against the sideline.

I think Raf explained it perfectly when he said finally Garrett moved Miles Austin to split end and made him the focal point of the passing game, then put Roy back at flanker where he’s more of a possession WR working the outside. I think he probably could play the slot just as well. But I still don’t trust the guy to make critical 3rd downs.

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.
