Around SBN: Tottenham's Plans for Northumberland Stadium Approved

An 8-3 record won't keep the December hounds away. Tony Romo has already begun to answer questions about the Cowboys' most infamous month.

Still, he insists he doesn’t feel any extra pressure now that the calendar will flip to December.

"It’s not different than the weight of a specific game," Romo said. "I don’t know that it’s any bigger than this last game because it was November and this next one is in December. … I know it will be a fun little story; I’m sure there will be a few of them about it. But for us, we’ll just kind of keep the blinders on and keep going."

yes sir.

The D is going to have a big game next weekend. That Giants line is having problems.

Do you think BJacobs still talk sh!% going in the game?

Jacobs mouth has been huge this year

Too bad his stats don’t back it up. It seems like every time he pops off he goes out and has a less than spectacular game.

So, sure, go ahead and run it BJ.

I have faith in Romo

This is clearly his team and he will have them ready. The D like Raf pointed out is the main difference.

though its gonna annoy a few people

I think Romo has the attitude you need to have in this situation.

I saw the interview

The media was trying 9 ways to Sunday to get him to talk about the annual December swoon. Romo really is a great interview. He’s honest to a point of being a target, he’s quite reflective in his answers, and he doesn’t hold the ignorance of some reporters against them. Plus he uses humor to wiggle out of tight spots.

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, "where the heck is the ceiling?"

Itr's funny what we expect from these guys

They have to be great athletes, they have to perform under enormous pressure and they also have to say just the right tings in front of the camera or they get murdered in the press.

It’s sort of bizarre when you consider that it’s the media’s job to get them to say something “interesting” controversial or worst case entertaining) and it has become the athlete’s job to avoid it.

They might have a better shot if they weren't so predictable.

Let me go out on the line and say (if and) when we clinch a playoff spot… someone bright in the media will ask… do you know the last time the Cowboys won a playoff game?

by Road Warrior on Nov 28, 2009 8:51 AM CST up reply actions

5 bucks

says the first one to mention anything like that is Colin Cowherd.

by Dub_TC on Nov 28, 2009 9:04 AM CST up reply actions

Let December come..

They have a tough schedule (NYG, Chargers, Saints, skins, iggles) and there will be no excuses or “ya buts..” when this team goes out and at least takes 3 of 5 and marches into the playoffs at a cool 11-5.

Everyone thought they had this team pegged in the preseason at 9 – 7 and now they think they have them pegged because it’s december…

These are the 09 Boys..anything before them means nothing…and they know it!

by SDTrueblue on Nov 28, 2009 1:50 AM CST via mobile reply actions

Everyone thought they would be 9-7, except Emmitt ... we've ALREADY passed his mediocre prediction :)

With all the crap the Cowboys have had to put up with since last year’s Iggles debacle, I think there’s enough WANT to go around many times over. Romo isn’t alone; everyone on this team will be fighting for every game the rest of the way. In fact, I don’t think the Cowboys will have the bad taste from last December’s iggles game out of their mouth until they prove a few things in the next month.

Hungry… Humble… Wanting more …Workman’s attitude… you can’t ask for a better mindset going into the stretch run.

I think they have the right mindset

But of course they’ll need some good luck to go along with good execution. I hope they get a little of that this December.

12 and 4

Sweep the division and split the other two. This is what is required to take the next step and to establish the quality team that is required to win in the playoffs.

And we won't even get a BYE...

That is what hurts me the most. 12-4 should be enough to get you the week off, but amazingly the Vikes and Saints just keep plugging away.

How bout dem Frogs!!!!

by DIRE WOLF on Nov 30, 2009 3:01 PM CST up reply actions

Ditto.

Only the 2nd team ever to go 11-5 and not get into the playoffs. I will say that I don’t think they would have been contending for a Super Bowl last year, but I think they would have made some noise.

I’m still ticked about the Cowboys going 7-9 and losing a chance at the playoffs because of the Saints. Ditto with the 1st Drew Bledsoe year when they could have made the playoffs if any of 13 different things fell into place, and none of them fell right and they lost the Rams because the emotion was completely deflated out of the stadium. I consider that year to be then 9-6 year. I don’t count that last loss as legitimate.

by jdramirez on Nov 30, 2009 3:10 PM CST up reply actions

3-2 won't be good enough.

If they win the first 3, and lose the last 2, they will be falling apart at the last moment.

If they win the first 2, then lose 2, and winning the final game, they will be barely getting into the playoffs and barely breaking their December record and you can’t have confidence in that.

If they win then lose, win then lose, and win, they will be inconsistent and will be suspect to have any sucess in the playoffs.

If they lose the next 2 and win the last 3, maybe that will will be enough, but then certainly they will mention that they nearly pissed away the season, and only luckily saved it by taking the last 3.

Maybe if they go 4-1, they will get some respect, but I sincerely doubt it.

His ‘weekly reality show’ comment was classic

This is a different team.

The mind set brought by coach D on special teams, the heart brought by Keith Brooking and the tenacity brought by Sensi and Jenkins is a huge difference from years past. Add to this the play of Austin, Choice, Felix and Crayton to what we have with Witten, Romo and MBIII and I feel much better going into December. With all that said, the oline will have to protect Tony better to have the ability to close the deal. There has been improvement in some areas and that will be the key.

by oldboysfan on Nov 28, 2009 10:19 AM CST reply actions

yep

I think the key is the OLine. If they can give Romo some time to throw ….. we’ll be fine.

Dallas just needs to do it.

They need to get that December jinks behind them by winning and closing out a season. There are no excuses why this team can’t finish. They are as healthy as any team in the NFL and have as much talent if not more than any team. If Dallas doesn’t get deep into the playoffs I think Jerry makes big changes and should.

How bout dem Frogs!!!!

by DIRE WOLF on Nov 28, 2009 1:17 PM CST reply actions

... and for the record ...

Getting rid of Wade is hardly a recipe for improving this defense, and in turn the team. And I’ve faith in Jason Garrett’s ability to learn from his mistakes … I’m not so sure I want to throw him to the curb so quickly either. There are more than a few HOF coaches that started slowly.

For proof see the guy who roams the Patriots sidlines

"We have to find a way to play better, there's no doubt. Overall. I'm not pointing fingers at anybody. Offense, defense, pitching -- we have to find a way to play better. The reality of this is, coming here to Pittsburgh and being swept -- personally, I feel embarrassed." -- Carlos Beltran

I don't think I posted it on BTB yet, but last Thursday (Thanksgiving day) ...

before I had the brilliant thought of going to Subway for a Turkey sub… I was walking up the street bemoaning my lack of gravy and stuffing and cranberry sauce … when a vendor coming the other way offered me a sample of his wares = bamboo worms and … GRASSHOPPERS! (okay, maybe crickets… but why let facts get in the way of my story…)

… just so I could add weight to my compliant about no Turkey dinner, I decided to eat one. Thinking the worm would be easier than the cricket I mean Grasshopper … I went that route.

Big Mistake…. BIG mistake. fr&%’n disgusting!

Kill it for me. It’s time for a change, the monkey and me. Obscure lyrical reference? Sure is. But it is that time..time to slay the dragon called December. Pull that monkey off our backs. And I think this season, we have the guys and the coaches who can do it. Looking forward to the month looming large on the calendar!

Screw the past

This team can beat anyone. December is just a name we call the last quarter of the season.

Defense = healthy

Offense = healthy

ST = top 10% in the NFL

Add it up.

More like the 2007 season than the 2008 season.

Lets hope the playoff games show how good this team can be.

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.

I suppose if you look at the three losses

They give you reason to be more optimistic than our recent wins.

We lost to the Giants in a game where Scandrick was awful and Romo gave the ball away and our defense couldn’t hold the other team at the end of the game while we were leading. And yet, we lost by less than a field goal.

We lost to a good Bronco team (at the time) on the road, that later went on to beat the Patriots, and despite an anemic offense, we also were leading in the 4th quarter.

We lost to a hungry and desperate Green Bay team on the road. The defense played well, but the offense gave them 10 points and William’s fumble didn’t help things at all. It’s a close game without the mistakes, and it’s a loss with the mistakes.

I suppose my point is that we didn’t have any losses like last year where we were just manhandled like against the Rams or Eagles. Maybe that means we are due. Ughh.

I will say that our 2 recent victories have not inspired much confidence, but the good news is that we should be playing in a dome all the way. Home game for winning the division (maybe Green Bay), then playing either the Vikings or Saints in the next 2 rounds. I’m not thinking Super Bowl yet, but I think the team would rather contend with noise than weather.
