Sunday Games Open Thread

With a Week 12 win already safely in the bank, we can sit back and watch the rest of the NFL today.

Matchups that are of special interest to Cowboys fans include teams that are battling for NFC playoff position.

Philadelphia (6-4) host the Redskins.
The Falcons (5-5) play Tampa Bay.
Arizona (7-3) goes to Tennessee.
Chicago visits Minnesota (9-1).

Use this thread as for all the games to be played this Sunday, including the Sunday night game. Raf will have an article later this evening about the dreaded December swoon and the thruth behind it. After that, we'll be back on a non-holiday schedule starting Monday.

Hope you had a good holiday weekend.

This is an open thread for game chat.

WTF?

eagles start with an onside kick. What is this? Pop Warner?

by One.Cool.Customer on Nov 29, 2009 12:05 PM CST reply actions

ah - Randal Williams looks like:

“Add beating the Philadelphia Eagles to the list of things the Dallas Cowboys can do under Bill Parcells that they couldn’t the last few years.

Randal Williams foiled a game-opening onside kick by returning it 37 yards for a touchdown and Billy Cundiff kicked a 28-yard field goal with 1 minute 11 seconds left to give the Cowboys a 23-21 victory over the Eagles on Sunday, ending a six-game losing streak to their division rivals.

Dallas had lost those games by an average of 25 points and hadn’t scored an offensive touchdown in the last three. That made this a key early … "

I believe it was Dave Campo's first game as a HC

and the eagals ran an on site to start the game and never looked back. They embarrassed us at Texas Stadium it was the opening weekend.

It Was Parcells' First Game

Against the Eagles as a Cowboys coach. It was the fifth game of 2003.

by kindablue on Nov 29, 2009 12:18 PM CST up reply actions

yep I remember Parcells's game too, but

the game I am talking about was maybe in 2001, first game of the season. J. Galloway blew up his knee as well, that was his first game as a Cowboy

Staley torches Cowboys for 262 total yards in 41-14 win
Latest: Monday September 04, 2000

" But for all the offensive and defensive success, it was Reid’s roll of the dice on special teams that set the tone.

The Cowboys were expecting a deep opening kickoff, but David Akers popped it up for an onside kick that Dameane Douglas caught at the 42.

Staley, the Eagles’ first 200-yard runner since Steve Van Buren in 1949, then gained 45 of the next 58 yards. The drive was capped by a 1-yard touchdown pass to wide-open Jeff Thomason — and the rout was on.

“I came up with it a month ago,” Reid said of the onside kick. “We saw some things in their front where we thought it could work.”

Seems like Reid has a fetish for game opening onside kicks…

Watching the Eagles Receivers, I'm even more happy to have Miles...

Maclin can run fast, but he can’t stop and start fast.

The Giants may be worse than wshington at this point. And Eli suffered a stress fracture in his foot, he’ll be playing hurt even more than normal.

Not saying it’s impossible, but I wouldn’t got to the bank with it. You know what I mean.

At the same time, I don’t expect any division foes to win out either.

Chris Johnson is amazing.

I love Felix and all, but……damn.

agreed

He is one of a kind. The moves me can make are incredible, few if any other rbs in this league can do that.

by foyesboys on Nov 29, 2009 3:37 PM CST up reply actions

do you need one?

if the side of your leg is on the ground, that seems down to me.

The rule goes something like

any part of the body NOT the hands or feet

by One.Cool.Customer on Nov 29, 2009 4:18 PM CST up reply actions

Like John Madden said

One shin equals two butt cheeks.

Thing is, I know what I saw on that play; but I can’t imagine someone’s foot being flat on the ground(?) and that same shin being down. Maybe the rise in the middle of the field made it look like the shin was down? Of course, the rules regarding replay do say “visual evidence”, so that’s what you go by.

by Leon on Nov 29, 2009 4:21 PM CST up reply actions

his foot wasn't flat tho

his whole foot was turned sideways so the bottom was off the ground and the ankle and lower shin were touching.

by scottmaui on Nov 29, 2009 4:55 PM CST up reply actions

Thanks

I saw it twice, but I had a bad angle and all the best kinds of distractions.

by Leon on Nov 29, 2009 5:01 PM CST up reply actions

or chicago is really bad

Their QB is not all he is cracked up to be and their defense is decimated by injuries, not to mention their Oline.

by THEjarhead on Nov 29, 2009 4:48 PM CST reply actions

quite a bit of both i think

minn is just a dam complete team right now, very dangerous.

Question about the Sunday Night Game

Is Jeff Garcia injured? If not it seems like the Steelers should’ve signed him instead of playing Dennis Dixon

by Gobroks on Nov 29, 2009 4:54 PM CST reply actions

and cutler sucks

man, im glad we didnt pull the trigger on that one.

by THEjarhead on Nov 29, 2009 5:11 PM CST reply actions

he's an idiot....

the worst attitude I’ ve ever seen from a player….even worse coming from a QB.

by ManTab on Nov 29, 2009 5:50 PM CST up reply actions

is there a team with as long an injury history as the giants?

in the last 5 years, 3 seasons have been derailed by ridiculous amounts of injuries and in 1 more, plax shot himself. Their one year without 3+ major injuries, they won the superbowl.

by foyesboys on Nov 29, 2009 5:20 PM CST up reply actions

The Bears

are trash. Just complete trash.

by Rickyy. on Nov 29, 2009 5:24 PM CST reply actions

vince young

attempting another GW fourth quarter drive. He seriously has like 9 in 24 starts or something.

by foyesboys on Nov 29, 2009 6:03 PM CST reply actions

including one of the more embarassing losses in giants history

when he lead them back from down 21-0 a few years ago. That was pretty awesome.

by foyesboys on Nov 29, 2009 6:06 PM CST up reply actions

WOW!!

Vince Young is…unstoppable.

99 yard drive for a game winning score.

Britt seemed to come out of nowhere to catch that ball.

Not that i means much, but we take over the 3 seed.

by foyesboys on Nov 29, 2009 6:12 PM CST reply actions

the 3 is what I want

You get a home game to open the playoffs;
you stay away from Arizona early. They scare me more than the Vikings or Saints. They have a good defense.

by Rafael Vela on Nov 29, 2009 6:29 PM CST up reply actions

good point

I was thinking 3 vs 4 is irrelevant cause we wouldn’t see them till the nfc championship anyway and its impossible to determine which WC we’d be if thats the case, but it also means Arizona is unlikely to get that 2 seed. Which is big.

If our offense can get rolling, this conference will have 4 solid very good teams at the top.

by foyesboys on Nov 29, 2009 6:44 PM CST up reply actions

i doubted it for a while

but hes really playing well. Hes not looking to run first, he looks like a much more complete qb than vick ever was…but its still early.

And man..once the game enters the fourth quarter, he turns it on.

I think he can be a guy like Ben or McNabb, qbs who (generally) aren’t extremely accurate but can buy time with their feet/big bodies and make plays when they’re needed to win games.

by foyesboys on Nov 29, 2009 6:27 PM CST up reply actions

Vince Young returns

Oh, and Rodney Harrison is an a$$

I still believe in Romo.
