Offseason Question
Looking at 2010, my understanding of the potential uncapped years is as follows:
If there is a CBA extension then Miles, Sensebaugh, Spears and Kitna are UFA's but with no extension and an uncapped year then we only look to risk losing Sensebaugh, Spears and Kitna. Is this correct or am I overlooking something?
Given the emergence of Miles, the team has few critical needs. A left tackle would be nice but those are scarce, a FS could help the secondary, but other than that, its sort of depth / longer term things (ILB, a third OLB, a fourth CB, a dangerous PR/KR).
Given the way the draft class is shaping up, the opportunity to take a modified best player available approach (meaning ex QB's, RB's, TE's) could pay real dividends.
Are there any other obvious threat that I am overlooking in terms of FA's?

Miles and Sensebaugh will get resigned - Jerry will see to that
And the way the draft class is shaping up there will be a lot of good DT’s coming out – meaning for us 5 tech DE’s and NT’s. There should also be a decent amount of good OT’s. QB and RB look weak so far unless the juniors change that.
OL and Defensive middle
We have to draft OL now to make the way for the future. Our line is just old.
I’m not sure about Jason Williams at ILB, one more stud athlete for development would be nice. Defensive line needs strong backups for developing.
I hope we learn our lesson at safety—that is, your whole team can be held hostage by this one position.

they're not old other than Flo
but they’re not young either, so I agree wh have to start addressing OL in each draft starting in 2010

I don't understand.

Please elaborate.
Jimmy Johnson for GM.
I think it's fairly simple to understand
If you don’t get good safety play you’re defense won’t be that good. Kind of like the qb of the defense.

I know that. Safety has been about the most overlooked position in my opinion.
Just wasn’t really clear on what he was saying. Didn’t know if he was taking the bash Roy Williams angle and saying to be cautious of drafting a safety early, or if he was saying “For God’s sake draft a ball-hawking safety already! This draft is full of them!”

I would be happy with signing or drafting a big NT so that Ratliff could move outside and replace Spears. I like Spears but like Canty this year someone will overpay for him. We need to draft an OT high in the draft and then take 1 or 2 mid round guys to develop. I would also like to see a WR taken in the middle rounds. Someone with very good speed who could return punts and give us another deep threat because outside of Austin our WR’s are a little slow.
I don't think they are going to move Rat to DE
He likes playing on the nose even though he’s undersized. I think they should draft a back up though who can provide quality depth although Siavii isn’t during too bad this year.

resign miles and sensi
if either of those top 2 safeties fall (i think taylor mays and that player from tennesee i think?), i dont think we can pass on them, they are both prime time… however, i seriously doubt they fall anywhere close to our pick…
if a solid OT prospect is anywhere close to us, that should be our first priority… after that, i say MLB again or CB
the only way i see us going NT in the first round, is if we can land one that is head and shoulders above one we could get in the second… with a deep dt class, i see us waiting till the 2nd rd…
we could also go DE here if ther is a solid choice
I would not at all be opposed to another cb in the first…. tnew is getting old, jenkins is solid and scandrick is looking to be a solid 3rd so far… if we can get a solid cb to work in slowly, that could benefit us longer than drafting an OT and throwing him right in the mix
I say we cross out all wr’s, rbs and te’s
rb’s speaks for it self, as does TE… and im happy with miles, williams, crayton and ogltree
the rest of the draft should be OL, g’s and a center… i can’t wait to see if brewster is the real deal after a year of hitting the weights this summer, i think he’ll be a player, i just don’t know what position he’ll end up at… also excited to see jason williams and stephen hodge

great year for safeties
berry, jones from lsu, mays and a few more.
Undoubtedly.
If we don’t take a safety I’m going to be pissed. Eric Berry (“that player from Tennessee” a.k.a. the second coming of Ed Reed), Taylor Mays, Morgan Burnett, Reshad Jones, and those are just the first and early second rounders. Major Wright, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, the list goes on. Tons of good safety prospects.
Jimmy Johnson for GM.
If it is an uncapped year
I can see the price of free agents being somewhat higher than normal. Best to stick to the draft and lower tier free agents. Hope that Jerry doesn’t try to pull a Snyder and shoot the wad on a big name. Oline is key, but it really wouldn’t hurt to look at corner and free safety.
There are rules that apply if the year ends up uncapped
For instance 1 rule is that teams can have 2 franchise players.
