Soy Willy tries to throw Romomentum under the short bus
NFL Network just reported that Williams speaks out saying 'Im the No 1 receiver, but the balls going to No 2'
to tell you the truth, I have wondered if Romo is freezing out Roy Williams for his role in the attempted playcalling coup at the end of last season. the disconnect is so painfully obvious when you can see Romo is keyed in on austin, crayton, hurd, witten and now bennett.
it's ridiculous for Roy to come out with this now, especially because he is doing more than his share contributing to the problem. this is just crazy. who needs this drama during philly week? i've seen a fair share of blame between tony's inaccuracy and roy's lack of effort on routes. the thing is, if tony is freezing roy out, hello-- earn your way back into his good graces. it's obvious this ship is going to sail with or without you, so get on board. this is the exact opposite effect.
here's the link from BSPN
http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/news/story?id=4622709
you can see the frustration growing, and I know manipulative media can sneak a quote out of the best of them, but where is the professionalism to not distract the team for your own selfish gain. now, whatever happens- the mainstream media will have a juicy storyline to abuse. if williams breaks out, storyline. if he still struggles, discord in the locker room storyline.
dumb.

Funny how different these two accounts sound
First, Todd Archer:

Sorry KDP, but you call them BSPN, then you perpetuate their rumour nonsense and add to it with the nickname Soy.

for one
the BSPN nickname is long standing and one single incident wouldn’t sway my opinion on them one bit. To act like they can NEVER be right with the core truth of a story is small minded. As I said below in response to someone else’s post, while it was one 10 second span in an interview of him NOT throwing teammates under the bus, in these 10 seconds, he did and it is completely unneccessary and a possible distraction.
Coach Winters: Mississippi State's offensive set. 2nd & 2 on our own 24, what defensive set might we call?
Alvin Mack: Eagle Zipper Hero, unless the setback shifts into the I.
Coach Winters: Good..[clicks to next slide], third and seven?
Alvin Mack: Oakie Thunder Lion. {What's your assignment?}
Alvin Mack: Kill the quarterback. {{Coach Winters clicks to next slide}}
Alvin Mack: Hit the tight end so hard his girlfriend dies. {{Coach Winters clicks to next slide}}

Saw about 5 min of Seattle game
I tried watching the game on P2P but the video freezing had me seizing. I did see an attempt by TR to RW who on a 3rd and 4 turned in rather than in on a simple play in the slot. Now, who was at fault? By the look in TR’s eyes it was RW, the $50m man. TR just does not trust RW to be where he’s supposed to be. The short-arm drops in the Atlanta game are understandable as he has bad ribs but come on, a simple out? Detroit won this one…

That dude...
Needs to shut his mouth. Not that Romo can’t make mistakes, but it sure seems like he’s on the same page with his other receivers, doesn’t it?
Roy, if you don’t want to prove all the haters right, shut your mouth and improve your game. Kevin Ogletree played better than you last week, and he was in for, what, two plays?
I’m still on the fence on Roy, but comments like this make me lean towards bust. Romo better grow a pair and let him know in no uncertain terms that he is not about to have T.O. part 2 (albeit a far less talented one).
I have noticed a new resurgence in Cowboy hating in 2007, which can only mean one thing- We're back.

I think Romo is doing that right now, he is playing well, scoring TDs and has no ints through three games.
He has avoided trying to force feed RW the ball and the other WR are producing. RW does not have TO’s guile and ability to win over others. Witten’s production is down and he is not complaining; no one is going to take RW side because they are getting the ball and the team is winning. The situation last year was in TO’s favor because of the years he had in 2006 and 2007; RW has not had that success here so he cannot do what TO did.

Roy needs to tow the company line, and don't rock the boat
He might consider himself the #1, but it’s clear to everyone else that title goes to Austin.
I can’t stand BSPN either, but Timmy does throw a quote from Roy that sounds like he’s blaming Romo. Archer doesn’t include it in his story.
“He gets the ball thrown correctly his way,” Williams said of Austin. “I’m stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody [else] who’s been here’s balls are there. Our footballs [from Romo to Williams] are everywhere right now.”
Someone needs to tell Roy the less fuel given to the media the better.

exactly the reason why i made this post

Man, I try really hard to like Roy
and he makes it VERY difficult. If he doesn’t improve greatly RIGHT NOW, I’m in favor or benching him for a combination of Hurd/Crayton and cutting him during the uncapped season.
He’ll occasionally say all the right things, but he’ll say a little something here and there that’s a red flag. This is the straw that broke the camel’s back. The guy doesn’t contribute enough to tolerate his nonsense. He’s clearly not the #1 here. He should deal with that. He’s got all the tools to contribute a great deal as the #2, but he’s too much of a diva to even admit that there’s another receiver playing out of his mind right now and deserving the distinction of the #1 guy. Ugh.
Maybe we can cut/trade him and draft one of the many talented receivers coming out next year? Hurd’s proven himself to be good enough to step in until said receiver develops into a starter. Just an idea.

Not saying Roy is definitely wrong
but never in my life have I seen a QB so accurate with his other receivers and being so off with one. It’s just hard to buy that Romo is at fault here.

I agree
it seems almost statistically impossible.
by I_miss_Switzer on Nov 4, 2009 8:01 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I wish he wouldn't say it to the media...
But I totally agree with Roy – probably 1/3 or more of romo’s throws have been bad throws. iven how incredibly accurate Romo is with the other guys, I’d guess that it may be a matter of trust. To be fair, Roys also dropped his fair share o balls so he shouldn’t talk imo.
by foyesboys on Nov 4, 2009 7:58 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I wonder if he is sometimes off
because RW is late to make his move, or early, or something like that that throws Romo off. I am sure some are just bad throws, but some of them may be bad for a reason.
by I_miss_Switzer on Nov 4, 2009 8:02 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
If Romo's on the money with Austin, Crayton, Witten, Bennett, Barber, Jones, Choice, etc.
and Roy’s complaining balls aren’t being thrown to him “correctly”, that means Roy’s not the guy for Romo. If that’s the case, we need to move on immediately. Hurd can fill that #2 big, possession receiver role just fine. Immediate upgrade on offense.
The Roy experiment needs to end right now. Too many good players sitting behind him waiting for an opportunity.

I think we'll need Roy
I think he is a perfect complement to Miles, and once him and Romo get things going, our passing game will be all the more dangerous.
Just cause Roy and Romo aren’t connecting does not mean (imo) that Hurd is a better option. Keep in mind Roy has been seeing top flight cbs.
by foyesboys on Nov 5, 2009 7:30 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I think what he said is being misinterpreted.
I don’t think he’s blaming Romo. He’s saying that the guys who have been her for a while, as in all of the other receivers, are getting it right, but he’s not. I think he’s just saying that he and Romo need to keep working and getting used to each other. There’s another receiver having similar problems, but not to the same extent, and that’s Marty B. Not coincidentally, in my opinion, he also hasn’t worked with Romo for years like the other guys.
by Baked Potato Soup on Nov 4, 2009 8:11 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
It's also much different when you read the quotes and when you see the actual interview.
I haven’t seen it yet, but many times Roy is smiling when and kind of just aloof that he has to answer so many of the same damned questions.
He certainly can be misinterpreted and this whole thing can be blown way out of context.

Roy needs to shut up and keep working
and thank his lucky freaking stars he is not rotting away in Detroit. He will have his chance at some point in the season to step up and make a big play, maybe a game winner when the opponent’s D is keying on Miles and witten.
Just keep your buck teeth from flapping and get back to work Soy. Personally, I have zero tolerance for overpaid, underachieving big-mouthed recievers but that built up over the last three years.

Regardless of context, he said what he said
He first said he was the #1 wide receiver, despite the fact that he’s obviously the #2 at best. Miles Austin is playing like a Pro Bowl receiver. That’s insulting to Austin. He then said balls weren’t being thrown to him correctly. That’s an insult to your Pro Bowl QB, who’s playing some of the best ball of his career. Whether he meant to say “we’re not on the same page, we’re both at fault” or not, it comes off as “I’m doing what I’m supposed to, and Romo’s not throwing the ball well”.
Roy is a competent receiver, but there are a few red flags, considering his reputation. Guy came in with a questionable work ethic and the diva reputation(although not nearly the level T.O. had reached, obviously). His production and now this interview seem to indicate that the criticism may have been fairly accurate. He’s certainly not worth the price tag, if this is what we’re getting.

I'm not a Roy hater, but how can you not see the undertone
There is definitely an air of ‘Why me?’ whining going on. He’s better off shutting up, or just sticking to generic answers, like “We’re still working on the connection, it’ll come, in the meantime I’ll do whatever this team needs me to do.” Something along those lines. I know he’s peppered daily with the gotcha type questions and he just needs to refrain from taking the bait.

You don't need to tell people to shut up
or call them ignorant. Regardless of the context, this is not the week for Roy to be bringing this up. He needs to keep working and his time will come but you can’t start putting people down for reacting to some stupid quotes by an underacheiving WR during the biggest week of the season so far.
by Billito on Nov 5, 2009 12:51 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Give him a break. He's just a little cranky...
Because Roy needs to average 9 catches for 105 yards over the remaining ten games to reach the lofty expectations Fighter set for his guy in the preseason.
I wonder if Crazy Al would flip the Cowboys a 2nd for Roy? Just kidding; even Al isn’t that far gone.
by MadMick on Nov 5, 2009 2:33 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Not cranky
Heck, I don’t even like Roy Williams and was against the trade (I wanted Boldin).
But having listened and read the transcript of the entire portion of that conversation (though he talked for 20 min total), he was not throwing anyone under the bus.
Calling him out based on tabloid journalism of the mediots is indeed ignorant (meaning unknowing). I never said shut-up…but it wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I did say your rant smacked of ignorance of the entire interview, just as my answer above was ignorant of my actually telling someone to shut up if they don’t know the whole story.
Why is everyone so touchy about the word ignorant? We are all ignorant in some way or another. It’s not the same as being called stupid, retarded, or brain-dead.
I’m reacting to a thread that was a knee-jerk reaction to an out-of-context commentary by the Mediots intentionally meant to stir up controversy.

Overall, I do not think the team is paying much attention to this
the team is scoring points without RW being a major factor, over time that may be a bigger factor but right now they will ride the hot hand of this offense. I also think that as a group the offense has confidence that TR and RW will get better and can be patient with RW because they know it will get better.
