Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Is Roy Williams even #2 ?

At this point I have seen just about a seasons worth of Roy Williams and I'm not sure he is even the second best receiver on the team. Austin has clearly emerged as our # 1 receiver, and I don't think Williams is any better than Crayton, and I think given the oppertunity Hurd would be as productive. You could even argue Williams doesn't have as much value as Hurd and Crayton because of their special teams play. And I just have a gut feeling about Ogletree. I guess the jury is still out on Williams, but something is missing for sure!!!!

I know this may sound kind of dumb

but I would rather give Ogletree some time at the 2 spot, I feel like he could threaten defenses more

I do also, but with RW contract that probably won't happen

I dont think this coaching staff has the nads to move RW to the #3 spot..

I posted about Soy Williams

two weeks ago after the Falcons game. The guy is a bum that is just digging his own grave.

SOY has spoiled. I have never seen fans on this board turn on someone like this guy, but he is that bad.

I'm not ready to throw RW under the bus just yet.

And we wouldn’t be having this discussion if Miles hadn’t thawed out. I’ll give him a few more games. If he and Romo suddenly click, watch out. The more weapons the merrier.

He's been playing like #2

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.

Roy Williams ranks 60th among WR's in the NFL

given that only 4 number 2 WR’s rank worse than him, I would say he is barely playing like a number 2

I was just making a sophmoric pun

But to be serious, I agree with you. His performance so far puts him in the middle to bottom of the pack as far as #2 WR’s go.

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.

I'm pretty much over Roy

Guy’s got all the tools to be a great player, but his production coupled with his subtle bitching about his role in the offense, his QB, etc. make it REALLY hard to tolerate him. Maybe he steps up, I don’t know. I liked what I saw of Hurd. Made a couple of big plays with his limited opportunities.

But my opinion doesn’t matter. Roy’s here for at least the remainder of the season, and Jerry is going to force the coaches to keep him in because of what he’s invested in him. Jerry wants his money’s worth.

Let’s hope he can be a decent 3 till we can cut him and not kill our cap

Well

I honestly do hope the guy succeeds and becomes what we brought him here to be, I simply won’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

I just hope the issue of what we gave up to give him and what he’s being paid doesn’t factor into their decision one way or the other. If there’s a receiver who can get more done at that spot, then put them in.

Roy can be an absolute beast. He has that potential. He can also be a dud. I hope it’s the former, and think he can be if he decides to work hard at it and be where Romo needs him to be. He also needs to learn that EVERY WORD is dissected by us fans and the media. We’re a sensitive bunch when it comes to our QB. Too much T.O. has us all(myself included) ready to run a receiver out of town at the first sign of frustration.

Don't take this the wrong way

But how many yes voters were fans of RW at Texas?

by King Man on Nov 5, 2009 7:36 AM CST reply actions

Guilty, as charged.

Am I content with his current level of production? … not even close. But, I think the disconnect will be sorted out whether it is just ‘chemistry’ or getting on the same page and paragraph when interpreting what the defense is showing.

The Quack Attack!

by APerfectStar on Nov 5, 2009 10:51 PM CST up reply actions

Nope...

I simply think that untalented receivers don’t post 1300+ yards in an NFL season and that by sitting him or demoting him, you severely hamper the chance that him and Romo ever get on the same page (which would finally allow us to tap into Roy’s potential).

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Nov 5, 2009 11:38 AM CST up reply actions

I posted a couple of weeks ago that Crayton seemed more productive than Roy

and was told simply that “Roy is clearly better”. I guess I don’t have good football eyes because I’m not seeing that.

by I_miss_Switzer on Nov 5, 2009 8:39 AM CST reply actions

I'm starting to think he is a possession slot WR, which we dont need....

I think we need a speedy slot WR…Ogletree is the man for the job and I think at some point he may be that guy. RW is and will be the #2 as long he is here.

I voted yes.

Even though I have a great deal of trepidation that he’ll even be able to produce what an aging Amani Toomer (for example) was able to for the Giants. I still expect 2-3 big games from him during the homestretch even though he’s done nothing to warrant such expectations as of yet. He’s just another overrated dude with “all the tools to become great” or some other such nonsense.

As I’ve said before, though, all I really expected from him was 65 grabs for 850 yards. I quit being hung up on how many picks he cost a while ago.

I voted Yes

Unless Roy is a total fool about the plays being called, the problems have to be with adjustments. It is amazing that Romo can get on side with all his other receivers and not Roy. I have seen him play in Detroit and this is certainly not the same player that played there. If he played as he did then, he would be a Michael Irvin type #1. Right now he’s not even the best choice at #2 { IMHO }, but he could be a solid player if we could find the real Roy Williams.
