Roy - Your Dirty Laundry Stinks!

We all went through it last year ... a divided locker room ... the finger pointing. Heck, we still have the "player" in Buffalo trying to point the finger at his old quarterback.

That is why Roy Williams' comments this week are all the more frustrating. With the team seemingly playing together for the first time in a long time, Roy wants to air out his personal frustration via the media. I think all Cowboy Nation gasped at first sight of Roy E. Williams' suggestive comments that his quarterback is to blame for his poor stats.

To me, there is only one thing to do: BENCH ROY!

Not that Williams' claims do not have any merit, they may, they might not. We could probably debate who is at fault, with good points on both sides, but right and wrong is not the point here. After a season were the locker room became divided by a certain "player" airing out his and the team's dirty laundry ... continuing that trend is not the answer.

The Cowboys as an organization have to make a statement that they will not tolerate this ... and benching Roy for a half or so might give him food for thought.

It won't happen anymore than Romo being benched

He’s paid big money and those type of players start, end of story.

Not if they're disrupting the team

Look at ol’ LJ in Kansas City or TO’s stop in Philly for examples.

lol

RW is no where near those clowns.

His comments this week were mild in comparison, yes

But I feel like he’s just getting started. What is going to stop him from talking more?

If he doesn’t perform, he needs to be benched. If that doesn’t work, he needs to be cut. Jerry needs to realize he’s not worth what he paid for him, and sometimes you just need to cut your losses. We’ll see if Jerry really has changed…

who has ever claimed Jerry has changed??

Jerry will always be Jerry something Cowboys fans have to accept and live with.

And...

Why would he be willing to cut TO after re-signing him to a new contract but be opposed to Roy being benched?

Giants did it ..

with Plax the year they won the Super Bowl.

Coaches and organizations who curb locker room disturbances are better teams for it. IMO, the Cowboys have got to send a message or next week its gonna be someone else on ESPN.

The sad thing is Terry is right

He won’t be benched because Jerry loves the guy and has invested money and picks in him.

Roy should be benched because the guy has sucked since he came here, and the whole “just wait until they get on the same page” routine is a tired lame excuse. He had a full offseason and training camp with Romo. All we heard is how they are working together. And there is nothing to show for it.

It is clearly not Romo. He is on the same page with Witten and Austin and Crayton and the backs. It is just Roy. Alright, Marty B too, but not getting production from the second TE is less of a problem than not getting squat from your supposedly top WR.

Oh wait, I forgot that he blocks well downfield and he is a Longhorn. Yeah, that makes him worth it

Roy's Comments have been way overblown.

There is no story here. Roy is happy too be on a winning team, and nobody is getting distracted or divided over this non-story.

The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!

His first sentence mentioned 5-2.

They’ve stayed after practice this week to work on their timing, etc. It’s really not that big of deal—I agree. If our WR corps was not producing and we needed him, then yeah, it would be a big deal. But we have the Eagles this week. THAT is a big deal.

What a great solution. Bench Roy and basically kill any chance of him and Romo getting on the same page this year. Sounds just like what the Cowboys need.

Seriously though, have you listened to the interview or read many of the accounts of that interview? Josh Ellis and Tim MacMahon both wrote that the comments were overblown and not an example of Roy trying to divide the team. Next time, try to come to a conclusion yourself instead of letting ESPN and guys like Michael Wilbon do it for you.

And if that still isn’t enough, Tony and Roy both came out today about how this locker room isn’t going to be divided by the media and how they are going to work their problems out. Heck, I even read a report saying they were throwing after practice today.
Clearly, this is a non-story.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Everything is a "non-story"

Like it or not …

Whether he has a point or not …

Whether it is dividing the team RIGHT NOW or not …

Roy should not be echoing his frustrations via the media!! No Cowboy player should be “venting” with a microphone in his face!!

Listen, everyone makes mistakes. I am sure Williams is merely feeling the heat. I just HATE when things like this are pushed under the rug. Deal with them now while it is a small issue, instead of allowing it to fester and grow into something big. ….. It was a “non-issue” last year as well .. and look at what happened when they let the ball roll for a while. Nip it in the ass NOW and we won’t talk about this again. When the finger pointing crap started happening last season, I will repeat .. for the first few weeks .. IT WAS A “NON-ISSUE” THEN TOO!!

Coaches like Parcells, Cowher, Jimmy will take a player like Roy by the ear and explain to him .. we keep our issues with each other IN THE LOCKER ROOM!! .. Oh what do they all have in common, that differs from Wade?? Oh that’s right … they all won Super Bowls!

But see that is where you have it wrong.

This wasn’t Roy “venting.” This wasn’t him saying these things in an open forum where he got to pick the topic of discussion. This wasn’t him holding an interview with Deion Sanders to talk about not getting the ball enough or in the right spots. This was simply Roy being asked over and over again about his connection with Tony and he answered honestly. Now granted, I suppose he could have worded it better, but by all accounts he had no bitterness or maliciousness in his tone and was simply saying what everyone already knows (that his connection with Romo is off right now).

And, like I said, Roy has addressed this “name-calling” by saying that he isn’t trying to bash anyone or start a division in the locker room. Likewise, Tony continued to talk about working with Roy and getting their issues fixed. Tony even said something along the lines of that the team’s core is too strong to be divided by the media. Like it or not, everyone in Dallas is treating this as media spin, and I will continue to as well. If you would like to continue to speculate on what is going on in the locker room be my guest, but you should have something stronger than last year’s situation to base your theories on. Furthermore, even if Dallas did listen to you and bench Roy, how in the hell do you think that will somehow “nip it in the ass?” If anything, you would just invite more room for controversy and see even more reporters trying to get Roy to speak out (even Patrick Crayton getting benched started a mini-firestorm).

Also, I enjoyed your speculative write-up of what other coaches would do. I enjoyed it because none of those coaches you mentioned have ever dealt with the media that Dallas does. Plus, even if all things were equal, we all know that Mike Ditka didn’t keep everything in house and he has a Super Bowl ring too.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Nov 5, 2009 7:01 PM CST up reply actions

No matter how it happened ...

Roy needs to pick a different forum to say that everyone else gets the ball thrown to them the correct way, but me, oh I have to reach, bend, and fall over to catch the throws Tony is giving me. That correct forum is with a coach or with Romo himself … and if his statements is not “venting” you need to smell the coffee and get some sunshine.

This “non-issue” crap is B.S as well. You don’t throw your teammates under the bus! That simple!! There is NO EXCUSE for anyone but the Dallas Cowboys’ team or coaching staff hear his frustration.

The ironic part here is that I have been saying exactly what Roy said about Romo .. but even though he may have some ligit points, good teammates do not air LOCKER ROOM issues. .. Like I said people make mistakes .. Roy made one .. no big deal .. except for brushing the problem under the rug never fixes the problem. <<< That is what the team did last year. All I wish for is for the organization/coach to resolve the issue. … Maybe they have by fining him. I don’t know … but the staff needs to deter ANY PLAYER from venting through the media.

The bottom line .. the media would not be making an issue out of thsi … IF ROY DID NOT MAKE THOSE COMMENTS! … nad the organization need to deter players from public “venting”.

by spadesking131313 on Nov 5, 2009 8:25 PM CST up reply actions

I agree about Roy learning to watch what he says

and other players as well (e.g. Crayton). However, I still don’t think it is that big of a deal. These things happen almost every year and Dallas is used to it and has won despite it. That is why it is a non-issue; not because Roy didn’t make a mistake, but because it doesn’t affect the product on the field.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Nov 6, 2009 12:50 AM CST up reply actions

True...

But the point is that having a media firestorm around Dallas does relatively little to affect the product on the field.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Nov 6, 2009 9:29 AM CST up reply actions

It really is a non issue

But it only takes one statement for the MSM to blow it way out of proportion because it’s Dallas. I hope Roy has learned from this minor incident to choose his words a little more carefully. Even though he didn’t mean to sound like he was complaining, it’s always better to give the standard “We’ll keep working and getting better”. When the media keeps asking the same thing over and over, just stick to short, positive responses.

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.

by APerfectStar on Nov 5, 2009 7:17 PM CST reply actions

In this case ..

the main stream media is not the culpret.

Had Roy said exactly what you propose, we aren’t discussing this.

NO PLAYER, not just Roy Williams should be pointing fingers through the media. If “everyone else gets the ball thrown correctly but I am stretching, falling, and reaching” isn’t finger pointing, then I don’t know where the hell you live. If Williams wants to call out a player, or vent, do it on the practice field, in the locker room, not to Ed Werder!

All I am saying is make each player accountable for their “slip ups” or “venting” as I call it. They got to stop this crap before it becomes bigger.

If the Cowboys go through some advercity, which I am sure they will, and players feel its ok to vent through the media, we will be right back to 2008. Other organizations/coaches drop the hammer on what they call locker room issues … Dallas should do they same.
