Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

What the Eagles are saying about Cowboys' WR Miles Austin:

"I told our guys here about a year back, ‘This guy right here, in the next year or two, he's going to be one explosive guy,'" (Andy) Reid said. "They asked, ‘Why?' He's fast, knows how to run routes and is great after the catch — even in his limited role before he showed those things. Now he's doing it all the time."

The Eagles are expected to stick ball-hawking cornerback Asante Samuel on Austin. Samuel has a team-high five interceptions.

"He's a heck of an athlete," Samuel said of Austin. "The biggest challenge is that he has a big lower body. And that's how he breaks through those arm tackles and goes the distance. So you just have to make sure you wrap him up when he catches the ball."

Samuels

tackles worse than Deion, good luck with that. Just get him the ball Tony, and Miles will do the rest

This is going to be...

A VERY interesting matchup.

Miles is so good after the catch and Samuels is not a great tackler so Tony has got to get him the ball in some tight spots to exploit that. But, samuels is also a great Route jumper so if he gets the right move on the ball it could be an easy INT. Expect a lot of stop and goes and stutters tomorrow.

yeah, I had to laugh

at Asante talking about tackling

You’re forgetting that Asante is also great at breaking up the pass and covering the receiver so that QB has to go to his alternate read. He’s not the best tackler, but he rarely gets torched. Also he tackled a little better last week.

I think he grabbed somebody by the leg. I was at the game and everybody cheering when he actually made a tackle.

again..

Strength versus strength. Asante is good at getting his hands on the ball but Austin is significantly bigger and he showed in KC that he has the ability to go up and snatch the ball with his big mits.

That’s what makes this interesting..Asante doesn’t get burned often but Miles has shown he doesn’t need to blow by someone in order to get big catches and huge YAC.

Personally, I believe if Philly shades a Safety towards Miles his production will not be great. But it should open things up for Patrick, Witten, MartyB, the backs and even..dare I say…Roy Willams. But, if they leave Asante on an island Miles could still put up some big numbers

I thought it was funny

that he has the ability to jump up for the ball, but couldn’t even get high enough to ‘slam’ it over the goal posts, and had to finger-roll it…

Heh, heh-heh

You said finger-roll. Heh heh.

yeah, that was hilarious. He probably can’t jump after all. Hell, he’s probably not really very fast, either. Or strong. He’s probably not really even a threat.

I think

we’ll stick Asante on Miles, hoping that our pass rush can force Romo to be a little off…and that Asante will take advantage.

We’ll DEFINITELY have a safety over the top in case Asante bites on an inside route, or Miles just stiff-arms his face to the dirt.

However, Sheldon is our true shut-down corner. And the stats say it too, QBs are just not completing balls to the guys that Sheldon’s covering. So I’m fine with Sheldon in single coverage on Roy or Patrick

Samuels gets torched.

He’s a gambler and it doesn’t always pay off. Tony is a gambler too. It should be interesting. I expect to see a very intense Dallas team against Philly. Concentrate on Austin because 44 other guys are going to be spitting fire.

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, "where the heck is the ceiling?"

Agreed

Asante will gamble and try to jump routes. If Romo can get sufficient protection, I’d like to see some pump and go routes to Austin.

As an Eagles fan

I also agree. Samuels gets the big play…either it’s in favor of the Eagles with a big pick, or in the favor of the opponent. He jumps routes looking for INTs…he’s pretty good at getting them, or batting the ball, but he can bite on a double move, and he is a terrible tackler (which sucks because Miles is so good after the catch)

I’d prefer Sheldon on Miles, he is the epitome of a shut-down corner.

I’m not a huge fan of sticking Asante on Austin. Just wondering, what corners has Miles Austin faced this year?

for miles austin

he is no doubt the no.1 WR, i mean the last WR that put up numbers like austin in the past few games was T.O.
