So, I Got a Warning from BTB

I tend to be vocal and very outspoken, yes.

Just curious as to who here is going to admit they wrote "Raf and staff" and why.

Again, just curious -- I just want some honesty here.

Adding this to make it long enough to publish:  no offense to OCC intended.  I am just not a believer in stats, per Mark Twain's take on it.  I stand by my previous predictions, which didn't rely on stats.

Would I love being wrong here against the Saints?  You bet.

I didn't complain but I wish I had

I never remember who posts what but I went back through your posts and found the offending comment . . You say “no offense” but you accuse him of being a wannabe MBA and say his post was useless and boring . You also had some uncomplimentary things to say about people who disagree with you and liked the post.

Nobody forced you to read his post.

by Omer on Dec 17, 2009 6:33 AM CST reply actions

Agreed.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not losing any sleep over anything that goes on on the blog, but I agree with Omer.
To say “no offense” but then attack someone in that manner was kind of rough. No, personally, I wouldn’t care. I have think skin, but I can understand where someone was coming from.

When you use a phrase like “no offense, but…” you generally try to be constructive with your criticism, not condescending.

JERRY: I worked a club in Dallas one time and they couldn't afford to pay me so they gave me these. Oh, I can't wear these! They look ridiculous!

KRAMER: Ah, you look like a cowboy! Huh?

JERRY: But I don't wanna be a cowboy!

I got a warning because I called someone an idiot.

I don’t even remember what he was arguing about, but he was definitely an idiot.

by Damnsammit on Dec 17, 2009 7:58 AM CST reply actions

Interesting

I never added my name to any warnings.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 17, 2009 8:31 AM CST reply actions

It might be generic or something?

I think my warning also said “Raf and staff” or something like that.

by Damnsammit on Dec 17, 2009 10:09 AM CST up reply actions

I never approved such a comment

and would not. That’s why I’m asking.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 17, 2009 10:28 AM CST up reply actions

Can you give me a warning?

I’ll just copy and paste what it says.

by Damnsammit on Dec 17, 2009 11:02 AM CST up reply actions

Probably shouldn’t compound the issue by making a fanpost about it.

by JimmyK on Dec 17, 2009 8:36 AM CST reply actions

You were a bad boy ;)

As far as I'm concerned Skip Bayless was spot on about Aikman.

by Flamingblue on Dec 17, 2009 9:36 AM CST reply actions

Raf doesn't generally through warnings out there...

And I have never complained about you…

“Vocal and outspoken” can be done without calling people douchebags, talking down to people, calling people out, or ranting.

Just kidding.

Where's the confusion?

You can’t say things in a governed online community that are direct attacks on people. You can attack ideas, use relatively colorful language (within reason) but you can’t attack a person.

Not too hard to comprehend.

If you can’t seperate the two, just keep moving and don’t post. Nobody is going to miss your contributions.

and for the record, I didn’t nor would I ever complain to the leaders, but that should be common sense. If you say those things to somebody in person, they have the option to punch you in your face. If you do it online, their only response is online, and then that turns into a pissing contest which is no fun for the rest of the site to wade through.

preventative measures.

Coach Winters: Mississippi State's offensive set. 2nd & 2 on our own 24, what defensive set might we call?
Alvin Mack: Eagle Zipper Hero, unless the setback shifts into the I.
Coach Winters: Good..[clicks to next slide], third and seven?
Alvin Mack: Oakie Thunder Lion. {What's your assignment?}
Alvin Mack: Kill the quarterback. {{Coach Winters clicks to next slide}}
Alvin Mack: Hit the tight end so hard his girlfriend dies. {{Coach Winters clicks to next slide}}
Alvin Mack: Kill everybody.

Meh..

Some people are just more uptight than others.

I don’t mind getting called names on an internet forum. It really has no effect on me personally.

But, I do understand that some people have feelings and they can get hurt. I just don’t have a lot of those “feelings”. Blame the military.

by Damnsammit on Dec 17, 2009 10:10 AM CST up reply actions

I honestly don't get mad at names.

I do have a quick temper sometimes and hate condescending posts.

Mainly because I have a sense that if you talk down to someone on a blog it’s probably because your a b*** in reality.

I’m big into being respectful to each other. Blame the military on that one too haha.

I cant stand digital tough guys

People think just because they can work a keyboard that all of a sudden they can say what they want.

by Impatient on Dec 17, 2009 11:17 AM CST up reply actions

I like tough guys ;)

lol

I saw a dog today. Have you seen a dog? You probably have. How was school? Was it fun? Did you get a lot of homework? Huh? Do you have any friends? Do you have a best friend? Does he have a big coat, too?

I just don't get it

You called me out in my post. I didn’t feel like I needed to dignify your comments with a response, although I found them offensive and completely unwarranted.

Others felt similarly and made it know through their comments. You even appear to have gotten an official reprimand.

So the next thing you do, you go and write this post, where you basically say you stand by what you said. Duh.

And then you try to call out whoever flagged your comments as offensive (and I can’t avoid thinking that I’m being called out again).

I wish I had. But I didn’t.

This is what you agreed to when you signed up:

Name-calling, stalking people only to belittle them, overly harsh criticisms, and similar actions are not tolerated. The rule should always be – argue the message, not the messenger. If you argue the content of someone’s post, you’re giving us all a contrary view-point, perhaps dropping knowledge on us along the way. If you argue the messenger, then you’re just trying to make yourself feel better by belittling your target or trying to get cheap laughs at their expense. It’s counter-productive, self-indulgent and pathetic. Don’t do it.

Give it a rest.

I didn’t write to any of the people who run the site, but I am glad to see you got the warning you deserved. You talked down to OCC, failed to attack ideas, and clearly violated the agreement you made when you joined this site. If you really can’t understand why you got a warning, perhaps you should reconsider posting at this site from now on since I think we all appreciate the way this site is run and don’t wish it to change.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

My grandma once got a warning for opening her umbrella in an elevator one too many times.

Squish.

by Squishmytomato on Dec 17, 2009 3:23 PM CST via mobile reply actions

I've never contacted the blog administrators to complain about anyone.

But I will call out people who are being unreasonably rude. And that is why I responded so harshly to your rude and unwarranted comments towards OCC (and to everyone who enjoys his work). Obviously our back and forth was deleted as it’s no longer there. But if you check out the thread several other people chimed in after our deleted debate and seconded what I said.

If you’re not a believer in stats that’s fine. Nobodies here is trying to force you to be. But then why would you, two weeks in a row, click on a Fanpost entitled "Seven Statistical Nuggets"? Because you went in there to insult people who didn’t think the same as you about stats. That’s why many people called you out in the thread and that’s why you got a warning from the boss. Instead of looking for someone to blame for your mistake why don’t you just apologize for being rude or just let it go and move on already.

by Luke. on Dec 17, 2009 3:44 PM CST reply actions

me too.........

I guess I need to check out all the fanposts because I have been clueless (kinda like Wade-lol).

by texstar on Dec 17, 2009 7:14 PM CST up reply actions

You know

there is a lot of different opinions on all issues on this site. Most present their cases in a civilized manner . Sometimes humorous banter gets a bit sarcastic, but it’s in fun. To attack personally is no enjoyment for anyone. There are things to be learned from all opinions whether you agree or not.

by oldboysfan on Dec 17, 2009 7:52 PM CST reply actions

I for one found this post useless and boring.

Blah blah blah something about masturbation blah blah blah wannabe MBA blah blah

I kid.

Epic Fail since 1985

by the red scare on Dec 17, 2009 10:48 PM CST reply actions

I don't have any particular issue with you or anyone else, 77

But to do what you admit to doing, then ask who complained seems a little strange, don’t you think? Are you a blog tough guy or not? Make up your mind already. A much more useful approach would have been to waste our time apologizing to whoever you offended.

The tribulations of Winter...
90% of Americans say 'OH SHIT!' before going into the ditch on a slippery road.
The other 10% are from TEXAS and they say, 'HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS!!!'

by White Wolf on Dec 18, 2009 1:32 PM CST reply actions

Well. . .

I guess I will waste your time now, with an apology.

I didn’t mean to imply that Raf sent the warning message. It seemed to be addressed from the whole BTB team, which is fine. So apologies to Raf there.

OCC, I’ll lay off. You do some great work, and I know it takes a lot of effort. Perhaps we don’t agree on some fundamental things, but I was wrong in calling you out. I apologize, man.

Obviously, I get feisty. It is nothing personal, though I know I need to tone down anything that sounds like a personal attack. It isn’t and they aren’t. But it’s my responsibility to manage that. I will sincerely try to do better in the future.

I read through each of these responses and found them humbling and humiliating, for the most part. I deserve that.

I will work on better balancing my feistiness (which I know many of us have) with my sense of humor.

I truly hope you will forgive me, OCC and others. Been in a rough patch of life lately and maybe that’s just exposing itself here.

I’m hoping to shut the heck up for a while, but with the Saints game pending, not sure I can.

Anyway, thanks all for being honest with me. As I promised in the post, I was just curious. I got what I asked for.

Cheers, and go Boys.

no worries

all is forgiven and forgotten. Now you’re back on my Christmas card list.

by One.Cool.Customer on Dec 19, 2009 7:42 AM CST up reply actions

thanks for the understanding, occ

much appreciated. but instead of a card, can you send me at least six more wins? maybe just even five? ;)

by dfan77 on Dec 20, 2009 1:51 AM CST up reply actions

Way to be a man

I’m sorry for the troubles you have been having lately but it’s nice to see you stand up and make a sincere apology. We all do the wrong thing sometimes, but it only becomes a mistake if you don’t learn from it.

Now please, send some feistiness to the O-line.

by Billito on Dec 19, 2009 11:12 AM CST up reply actions

wish i could

but i don’t think they know me. :) thank you.

by dfan77 on Dec 20, 2009 1:52 AM CST up reply actions

Straight up dfan

Well done. If we could channel the feitiness on this site to the team, we’d be 13-0.
