Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

The Cowboys worked out five players today, including CB Chris McAlister.

From Nick Eatman:

While one club source said McAlister looked sharp in the workout, it doesn’t appear the Cowboys are ready to sign him just yet. It’s usually one of those situations where they want to know what they’re dealing with, if or when an opportunity arises for them to get a cornerback.

The other workout players include RB Herb Donaldson, defensive tackle Henry Smith, linebacker Leon Williams and offensive lineman Cliff Louis.

thats interesting

If anything this should provide some motivation to some of the younger players that they have to get their ass in gear if they want to continue to be employed for the holidays.

Yup.

Good time to do a little churnin’ if need be.

I saw a dog today. Have you seen a dog? You probably have. How was school? Was it fun? Did you get a lot of homework? Huh? Do you have any friends? Do you have a best friend? Does he have a big coat, too?

Its a good wakeup call for Scandrick.

If doesn’t step up in this game maybe hes benched in favor of McAlister.

by houseofprime on Dec 17, 2009 2:50 PM CST up reply actions

how about a wakeup call for Newman??

how much worse could McAllister be than Newman??? And at a fraction of the price…

food for thought for an uncapped year….bring him in and maybe Newman is shown the door in the offseason

by McLovin9 on Dec 17, 2009 3:36 PM CST up reply actions

never say never....his but should be demoted.....hopefully next year....

Scandrick is playing better than Newman right now that much is for sure.

Based on what?

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.

by APerfectStar on Dec 18, 2009 12:35 AM CST up reply actions

yeah because he sucks....Newmans time is short guys...face it...

Newman is responsible for at least 2 big plays a game….I predict at least 3 or 4 tomorrow…hope Im wrong…His overpaid butt needs to be demoted to the #3 next year….How long can we continue to play a guy that hurts this team every week.

he's average at best Terry - and he's paid like Deion

we need to get these guys out in order to change the culture

by McLovin9 on Dec 18, 2009 9:55 AM CST up reply actions

no, Newman is a good CB

True, he’s paid like an elite CB, but he is good, much better than most Cowboys fans give him credit for.

OMG...thank you McLovin...finally someone that can looks past the obvious..

What more can I say…Newman doesn’t get INTs, often out of position, loses track of the ball….do I have to spell it out any better than that?? Really….He STINKS!….

For whatever reason many on here cant see the obvious. I listen to Sirus NFL Radio 124 everyday and whenever a caller calls in to talk about the Cowboys defense, as recent as yesterday Newman is always a topic of conversation. Fans outside of this blog know Newman is a liabilty in our secondary and one of the reasons we are giving up big plays at bad times….Newman is overpaid and overrated…I will LOVE to eat some crow tommorrow night if he has a good game, but if he gets roasted be prepared to here it….

The Donaldson guy will most likely take Washington's spot on the PS.

Hmm wonder why they worked out McAlister?

Could it be because their playing the Saints this week?

He was rumored to be a good fit in Big D in the offseason, but nothing came of that.

That was my first thought

It’s a known practice. Although, not sure how much could be gained over a few days.

I linked their names at the bottom of the FShot.

The only one I am familiar with is Leon Williams. I watched a few Cleveland games with a friend of mine (Browns fan) who liked him. I think he played college at Miami.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he played ILB in the Browns’ 3-4. I do remember him having dreadlocks :)

Yup.

This must mean that they are considering putting Pat Watkins on IR, I guess.

Does not get me excited at all…just win sunday thats really all i care about at this moment

You never know

The reports say McAllister looks sharp. Sign him and get him ready for Washington.

by quincyyyyy on Dec 17, 2009 3:15 PM CST up reply actions

I was thinking

He was a big CB, convert to safety?

makes sense

to put him at safety behind Hamlin and keep Ball just as the 4th CB….

But they’ll probably keep Ball at backup safety and put McAllister at 4th CB…

by MicThaRock on Dec 17, 2009 3:26 PM CST up reply actions

Plus, we have yet to see how Hamlin's doing with that ankle.

Green Bay sure does seem like a season away, though.

According to Adam Schefter......

He was torched by Redskins Devin Thomas and Jabari Green was expected to return making him expendable.

by Road Warrior on Dec 17, 2009 3:38 PM CST up reply actions

And if they kept McKenzie, they probably don't want too many seniors back there.

McAllister

doesn’t sound like a bad pick up for a short term to sure up the secondary. He may not be a shut down player, but he might be able to hold the fort for a few weeks. As long a Jerry can get him reasonably.

by oldboysfan on Dec 17, 2009 7:37 PM CST reply actions

Leon Williams

He might be a worthwhile pickup. Played for Grantham in CLE, he’d be a solid backup ILB and ST player.

McAllister is a shell of what he was. People are getting excited over the name only.

You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.
