Sunday Games Open Thread

Nice. As Cowboys fans, we get to kick back and relax this Sunday, secure in the knowledge that we're in playoff position for another week. The victory over the Saints inusred that Dallas will be no less than the #6 seed in the NFC going into Week 16. We still control our own destiny.

So enjoy watching the Sunday games - and go 49ers!

This is an open thread for game chat.

Actually have more interest in the giants game tomw because

if the giants loose and cowboys win next sunday they clinch at least a wild card spot.

Iv got another name to throw in the kicker position. Steve Haushka. Im sure I spelt that wrong. He kicked for the ravens earlier this year and had his won struggles. I didnt ever see him mis a gimme like Folk though. Just a thought.

Really wish Jerry wouldnt have passed up on matt bryant like 3 weeks ago. Folk was already in a slump and Bryant was a great option that came available after the UFL leauge finished.

However I would feel a lot more confident if we won out, got there on our own, and had a 3 game winning streak going into the playoffs

me too

I was watching at a friend’s house who has NFL Network so I wasn’t on for the live blogging…

it was actually kinda funny… for the first few minutes of the game his satellite connection wasn’t working for that channel so we couldn’t get the game, I was getting so frustrated, and then it finally came on and literally the first thing I saw was the pass flying through the air into Miles’ hands for the TD!

i would like

For the cowboys to win the division and the giants to get the wild card. I want to play the giants again at home. I don’t think they can beat us 3 times in a year. And it would be a little return of the favor from 2007, when we beat them twice during the reg season and lost when it counted most.

Actually we will be better off with the giants and falcons losing and the eagles beating the 49ers because it will make it where we only have to win one more game to get in and we can win the division with 2 wins

Is it to early for draft talk ?

What do you guys think of Free. Is he our LT of the future ? Is he a up grade over
Adams and should we use our #1 pick on a LT the compete with free next year ?

by Dan The Cowboy Fan on Dec 20, 2009 3:40 PM CST reply actions

Not too early for me

Free’s been good, but I think he was the LT behind Flo until Colombo was injured. He seems to be able to play either side.

Still think we need at least one new Tackle, maybe two in the draft and/or FA.

Colombo will be back, Flo’s probably gonna be here another year at least. There’s time to develop a new guy.

When in doubt, empty your magazine

by MudMarine on Dec 20, 2009 3:43 PM CST up reply actions

Free Looks Okay to Me at RT

Although I don’t study the film. We should probably look for an LT early in the draft, because the good ones are generally had in the first round. The others tend to be crap shoots.

I don’t think it’s early to talk about the draft, especially with the age and needs of the offensive line.

by kindablue on Dec 20, 2009 3:44 PM CST up reply actions

got to draft o line without a doubt..

Free has played well and should stick around for awhile..Brewster I look foward to see in the future..But we need a LT to groom badly

We need to add a least one young starter next year !

I heard a comment from Norv Turner, when asked about his teams abilitity to
win in December. He stated that youth of his team was a big facter. They were
able to stay heather and seemed fesher at the end of the year. It seems to me
that our offence linemen ware down late in the season. I just don’t want to end
like KC where they had to rebuild/ replace there line all at once.

How Bout Them Cowboys!

by sprprsnmn on Dec 20, 2009 4:16 PM CST reply actions

i dont like that idea

I think we at least drop 1 and I don’t want that to happen so hopefully we avoid them.

If the giants can’t jump the eagles. I want the first round as follows

3 cards v 6 eagles
4 boys v 5 packers

Then at that point I want
2 minn v 4 boys
1 no v 6 phi

Then
4 boys v 6 phi at our house again.

I am ok if they play them in that scenario, but not back to back.

I would rather this:

3 cowboys v 6 packers
4 cards v 5 giants

Then
1 no v 5 giants
2 minn v 3 boys

Then

3Boys v 5 giants

Highly unlikely but I would love it

Then
Boys vs chargers sb

And we get redemption! Got six???

by TONYINCC on Dec 20, 2009 4:58 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

free replacing flo

Would help that and columbo, this year at least, just got about 8 weeks off. If brewster can come in next year would also be great.

by TONYINCC on Dec 20, 2009 4:28 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Just think, we almost had Max Unger from Oregan I believe

The Cowboys were in love with him. He can play center/ left guard ot left tackle.
Whe should have moved up to select him. We taded down when Seattle pick him
one spot ahead of us. If we did not have another player in mind then we should have
moved up !

by Dan The Cowboy Fan on Dec 20, 2009 4:36 PM CST reply actions

unfortuneatley i remember

And he would have been a steal if they traded up to get him. Hopefully they don’t make the same mistake twice. I don’t particularly care for the quantity approach. I want quality.

by TONYINCC on Dec 20, 2009 4:40 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

It Was a Shame

He would have been a good fit for us. We could have not only upgraded the position, we could have dumped Proctor, and probably Duke Robinson or Holland besides.

Unfortunately, the draft doesn’t always break like we want it to. There was no way to know in advance that Seattle was going to take him, so to be safe we would have had to move up higher to get him. Had we done that, we could have been reaching. A shame, but hopefully next year things work out better.

by kindablue on Dec 20, 2009 4:55 PM CST up reply actions

I agree, at this point we need impact players.

Quality over quantity in next year draft. We don"t have a lot of needs.
Move up in the first and draft the best LT in the draft. LT "s are a good gamble eartly.
Draft a speedy receiver that can strech the field ala Desean Jackson/ Percey Harvin.
I Know Jerry does not like to draft receivers in the first round. Than maybe a center/
guard or def. End.

by Dan The Cowboy Fan on Dec 20, 2009 4:54 PM CST reply actions

Being from Jersey

I see a lot of Anthony Davis. I really wanted us to draft him to groom him as our next LT. Little did I know his stock would be so high. I assumed he’d get looked over being from Rutgers.

I Think Romo makes our line look better.

Our line looked bad when Bledsoe was our starter. Tony made them look like
pro-bowlers. I wounder what Tony could do with a little better agility by our line.
I think our guys are to big/slowand to old to adjust to the blitz. There built for a power
running game, but that only works if you can ware a team down. Team rotate
players more aften now and that keeps them fresher while our line just gets more tired
being in the game with out rest.

yeah, though its really a push with the two of them

wish they were still in the same division, that was always fun

I wouldn't know about that

dont pay much attention

The Eagles lost to the Saints (who we beat), they lost to the Raiders (who we beat) and they lost to us (who we are).

so the packer loss

opens up another avenue (though unlikely) for dallas to make the playoffs.

I'll Take It

But we control our destiny. Two wins and we’re at least the number four seed. If Arizona loses and we win out, we move to number three.

We’ve got to play our way into the playoffs. Two and we’re in.

an interesting situation lies on the horizon (maybe)

if the giants lose one of the next two and we beat washington, the playoffs will be clinched, there will be a home game with philly. I don’t know whether philly has the tiebraker over the packers, but it seems very possible that there is a game where

a. the winner gets homefield in the playoff game between the two teams, yet

there is not a lot of incentive to throw your whole playbook at the opposition.

by foyesboys on Dec 20, 2009 7:43 PM CST reply actions

Yep

but you lost to the saints (who we beat) lost to the Raiders (who we beat) and to us (who we are) so I think you would have a hard time arguing that you are a better team than we are.

Boys will work out Suisham

via Todd Archer, DMN blog

According to sources, Suisham is scheduled to workout as a potential replacement for Folk on Monday, and the team made more calls on other kickers, including Dave Rayner, on Sunday.

by scottmaui on Dec 20, 2009 8:31 PM CST reply actions

i am glad

But how flippin hard is it to kick a fg???
I have kicked 2 40 yarders in pregame it is simple, keep your GD head down and it goes straight, that’s it, why is it so hard?

by TONYINCC on Dec 20, 2009 8:40 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

explain to me

how the team carries 2 kickers and yet has to work out a FG kicker. I mean I know Buehler is there for the touchbacks but geesh.

by Elwood62 on Dec 20, 2009 9:01 PM CST up reply actions

Is there a scenario...

Where if we got to the playoffs, we’d be playing the Eagles in the first round? I remember looking at the playoff picture a few weeks ago and that’s how it had it… Back to back?

Superbowl, or BUST.

by .FRoST.USAF on Dec 20, 2009 9:31 PM CST reply actions

Its quite likely

and the Pac play the Cards week 17, so both NFC wildcards games could very well be replays of the week prior.

The Eagles lost to the Saints (who we beat), they lost to the Raiders (who we beat) and they lost to us (who we are).

by aussie_cowboy on Dec 20, 2009 9:32 PM CST up reply actions

That's crazy...

Can you think off the top of your head the last time that’s happened?

Superbowl, or BUST.

by .FRoST.USAF on Dec 20, 2009 9:52 PM CST up reply actions

Not the best person to ask

I have only seen 4 seasons of playoff football.

The Eagles lost to the Saints (who we beat), they lost to the Raiders (who we beat) and they lost to us (who we are).

by aussie_cowboy on Dec 20, 2009 9:54 PM CST up reply actions

I Know For Sure

It’s happened three times:

1988, Houston and Cleveland
1993, Denver and the then Los Angeles Raiders
1997, Miami and New England

That’s just off the top of my head.

by kindablue on Dec 20, 2009 10:01 PM CST up reply actions

but this year

both wildcard games could be replays of the week 17 games. Did that happen in those years?

The Eagles lost to the Saints (who we beat), they lost to the Raiders (who we beat) and they lost to us (who we are).

by aussie_cowboy on Dec 20, 2009 10:08 PM CST up reply actions

Oh You Are Talking About

Both wildcards being replays. Didn’t pick up on that.

I can safely say it’s never happened.

by kindablue on Dec 20, 2009 10:15 PM CST up reply actions

Cool

but I sort of hope it doesnt happen

by aussie_cowboy on Dec 20, 2009 10:16 PM CST up reply actions

I agree

I don’t want to have to show all of your cards in week 17, and have nothing to go with if we were to play them in the wild card..

Superbowl, or BUST.

This week really shows that the NFC plaoffs are wide open.

The Eagles lost to the Saints (who we beat), they lost to the Raiders (who we beat) and they lost to us (who we are).

by aussie_cowboy on Dec 20, 2009 9:52 PM CST up reply actions

the 2 NFC powerhouses being handled

just shows that once we get into the playoffs, it’s anybody’s game… we can beat any team in the league

by scottmaui on Dec 20, 2009 9:55 PM CST up reply actions

#1 and # 2 seeds getting beat has to be a real mental boost

to the other teams. Especially watching the Vikings get their asses handed to them by the Panthers. Just looking at this game makes you wonder why they have lost so many games.

ok so if we win out and the packers win out, and the eagles win their next game, the eagles and the packers would both be 11-5 and have the same conference record.

who wins that tiebreaker?

by mahuebel on Dec 20, 2009 10:39 PM CST reply actions

Jeez what is going on with the Vikes, they looked flatter than 10 year old Pespi.

I curse you Joe Berger, Dallas kept him instead of Matt Moore.
