What a Game! A Few Thoughts and Questions.
First, I am traveling and let me say I am so glad I ended up in a place where I could get the NFL Network. I am glad I wasn't watching that on some internet feed.
1. Something must be done about the kicking situation. We now have more kickers who can contribute in punt coverage than kickers who can consistently hit a 25 yard field goal.
2. The young guys are stepping up.
-- Class of 2009: Ogletree and Butler looked great
-- Class of 2008: Jenkins really developing. Scandrick sometimes look like he is regressing but I think its just that Jenkins is playing so well it overshadows him, am I wrong?
-- Class of 2007: Spencer is breaking out, Free is filling in nicely, can he ever move to the left?
3. Phillips looks great, has he lept over 'Tellus or has Bennet hit a pothole? I really thought the offseason conditioning program would make him a monster instead he is becoming a mystery.
4. Roy Williams is the most disappointing Cowboy since Roy Williams.
5. I like that the team didn't find a way to lose last night. In past years they would have, Maybe they are growing up. To prove that they need to play well the next two weeks.
6. Witten is quietly becoming the best TE ever. Not so much in terms of single day dominance, but his body of work could be like Emmett or Jerry Rice relative to the field.
7. I think this is the first time Garrett called a game that EVERYONE likes. I hope its contagious.
8. Does the emergence of Spencer mean this defense can finally play to it's potential? Last night seemed like the first time the defense helped itself out. Other games they have had pass rush or coverage, but it all synced up last night. I feel like I have been waiting 4 years for this to happen.
9. Romo has officially shut me up. Thank you Tony.
10. Bobby Carpenter lives!

Marty B has been hurt for awhile and has missed the last two games
Geez give the guy a chance before we demote him to 3rd string

He's still suffering from post-concussion symptoms..

Agree completely
1 – this kicker is gonna cost us a game, he may have already. Got to fix this now
5 – closer than it should have been. For some perspective, note we played a pretty flawless game, while NO played a pretty flawed game. Yet they were driving to tie in the final minute
Always be more than you appear and never appear to be more than you are
well the two are related
if folk hits the 24 yarder, the saints cant drive to tie.
We played a flawless game?
Did we really? It seems to me that we made our share of mistakes as well. Examples include: a 24-yard missed FG, a drop on a key 3rd and 6, a couple of really bad penalties, giving up a 60-yard kick return, playing prevent-ish type defense in the fourth quarter, and of course we also had several other dropped balls. To say that we played flawless and they played bad is absolutely b.s. Plus, it is really an interesting viewpoint when their mistakes you are talking about were largely forced by us. Their defense played bad because we came in with a great gameplan and executed; not because they forgot how to play. Their offense didn’t score as much because we got Brees moving around the pocket and forced him to make harder decisions than he has had to all year (that INT to Jenkins was in large part due to the fact that Brees had people at his feet preventing him from stepping up).
The fact is that last night, we were the better team. In fact, until we made the big mistake of playing prevent type defense in the fourth quarter, we were the dominant team. I understand tempering your enthusiasm after a big win, but your attitude is pretty ridiculous.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

I love #4
Very clever.

- John McKay, the first coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I have to disagree.
Look at Roy Williams last two games. and look at how they utilized him. No, he is not our Number 1, but if we use him the way he should be, he can become a weapon.

well
i am not saying he sucks, just that to me at least he is really disappointing. At this point he is our second WR, but a second WR in the Alvin Harper, good for a big play sense as opposed to having trusted possession skills. In a pinch I trust Witten, then Miles, the Crayton, then Phillips then Roy.
Given that we paid 3 draft choices (and some people on this board said that was a great deal) I am let down. I would be underwhelmed if he were our 1st round draft choice this year.
I am not saying he is a bust, I just think he has not found a niche, He hasn’t shown an ability to take over a game. He hasn’t made defenses adjust what they do. He hasn’t become a trusted, sure handed possession guy. He hasn’t shown that he is a deep threat. He hasn’t done much more than show he can catch a fade.
I think he corrects this, but for the 20th, 82nd and 165th picks, I am underwhelmed. As an aside Percy Harvin was picked 2 picks after the 20th pick (and Mike Oher 3 picks later) and Mike Wallace was picked 2 picks after the 82nd round pick.
I would love to see this team with Oher, Wallace and the 160th pick instead of Roy. Having said that, it cold never happen. Jerry would have traded down 3 times then up twice to show that he is smart and knows how to wheel and deal,
