Interesting FOX Pregame-Jay Glazer note.
During the Jay Glazer update (really the only reason to bother with the show), he mentioned that the Redskins were already putting the peices in place to make a run at Mike Shanahan after the season. Nothing particularly surprising about that (never mind that the Washington players are killing themselves trying to save Zorn's job, something that Dan Snyder clearly doesn't comprehend).
I was equally unsurprised to hear that Mike has his eye on the Dallas job, but what did catch me off guard was Glazer's almost offhand comment that Dallas didn't have much interest in him. Does anybody know why, or is Jay just guessing? I'm one of the rapidly-dwindling Wade supporters, but Shanahan is on the short list of guys, along with Dungy and Cowher, that I'd fire him to get in here.

Shanahan
For whatever reason I’ve never been a big Shanahan fan. Doesn’t Denver pretty much have the same team, player wise, this year as last year (sans Cutler)?
Obscene injury situation last season, if I recall correctly.
I think if you put two of my best seasons together it wouldn't come up with the numbers he's going to have at the end of the season. -Troy Aikman on Tony Romo

two things
1) allegedly (and i am quoting another poster here) JJ told babe last night that if wade goes redball gets the job
2) shanahan was a good coach / coordinator but made awful personnel decisions (eg maurice clarrett) i think he and jerry would be a bad mix. need a guy who could publicly coach the team and privately be GM (like parcells)
If you're going to take off points for Clarett...
How many do you add for Elvis Dumervil and Brandon Marshall, both of whom were fourth rounders, or the slew of late round running backs not named Maurice Clarrett who ran for big numbers under Shanahan?

no
McDaniels gutted that defense. Totally remade it.
Before we get all weepy over the genius of Josh McDaniels...
Let’s keep in mind that since the 6-0 start, the Broncos are 2-6, with their only wins coming over KC and the Giants when they were in their own slump.
People around here would be slitting their wrists and demanding Wade’s head on a plate if Dallas had had a turn like that.

Different situation though
The Eagles lost to the Saints (who we beat), they lost to the Raiders (who we beat) and they lost to us (who we are).

Different expectations
we are a better team than Denver

They were 8-4 after 12 games last year, before they collapsed down the stretch.
They were never a bad team, just a thin and beat up one.

as much as we hate Dawkins
he has made a big difference for them

Mike Nolan
… has been a bigger difference in Denver this year than McDaniels replacing Shanahan as the HC and offensive mind.

Glazer is one of the best info guys out there
Now that Adam Schefter has joined the Borg, he may be THE best info guy out there. I trust his info.
I agree, which is why I was surprised to hear it.

Agree with that
Glazer seems to have more reliable sources than anyone. He’s almost always correct and almost always on top of breaking news.

Shanahan wants a personnel guy that he likes in place if he takes a HC job
Did you notice who the Skins hired in their front office?

Garrett is going to be the next HC thats why....
Shanahan runs the WC style of offense also and that’s a problem to begin with.
"Austin made the play, Austin saved the day" Brad Sham
Shanahan is not the answer
neither is Cowher or Holmgren. The coaches that have been doing better recently are the smart young coaches, like Tomlin, Caldwell, McDaniels even, also Garrett could be one as well.
"Aw Shucks" - Wade Phillips
Tomlin and Caldwell took over recent Super Bowl champions with veteran, franchise QBs already in place.
Then again, once upon a time, so did Shanahan. Denver hadn’t won a SB when he arrived, but Elway had already led them to three.
Then again again, Shanahan got a Jake Plummer-led team within one win of the Super Bowl. Let’s see Mike Tomlin do that.
I recognize that Shanahan wouldn’t be a perfect fit, and I’m not even really advocating for him, I just thought it was strange that Dallas wouldn’t have any interest in him. 14 years with Denver, and only 2 losing seasons speaks for itself.

Poor special teams and Defense
Shanahan teams are never known for having good defenses or good special teams. That’s probably why Jerry isn’t interested. Cowher won one Super Bowl in over ten years. i don’t think Cowboys fans would be happy about that. As much as Cowboy fans complain about how laid back Wade is, they are going to embrace Dungy? Most of you feel he should have won more Super Bowls with Peyton. If anyone, i would seriously look at Joe DeCamillis. He seems to have the respect of the team. And Jerry.

I'd have been pretty happy with a Super Bowl win sometime in the last decade.
And every single Cowboys fan ever born agrees with me.

I definitely don't want Shanahan.
For that matter I don’t want Cowher or Dungy either. Everyone keeps saying that we should be more like the Steelers, but to do that, we definitely have to avoid hiring a retread head coach and instead find a young talented coach that can stay here for a long time. In my opinion, it is likely that this guy will be Garrett considering his offense has produced and him and Tony seemingly work together well.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
I just don't think Garret would be a good HC.
He just doesn’t seem to have authority or command of the players.

I am curious as to what you base that opinion off?
I am not saying you are wrong, but I am curious as to what leads you to draw that conclusion.

i want a coach who adapts
jg is hit and miss with this… i wouldn’t be upset if he was head coach next year, but i wouldn’t be thrilled either… i’d still root for him tho

Well I personally think he is wrong as well
but I wanted to know what he was basing his opinion off before giving mine.

I dont want one of these past it HCs
such as Shanahan, Gruden or Cowher. I want a Garrett, or the next big thing. That would be a wiser hire IMO to look for an up and comming assistant.
The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!
i would not mind shanahan
we have a great qb and some good wr’s… and some great running backs…. now, since we need to rebuild the o line, might as well let shanahan do it… he’s always picked greats linemen for a great running game… however, i don’t know if they are good at pass blocking, but with a good running game, less presssure will come.. the more i think shanahan, the more i drool of huge holes for felix marion and tchoice

Shanahan is a Zone blocking guy
Can you imagine Bigg and Gurode trying to handle zone blocking?
It would be either a jailbreak or a penalty on every play.

Frankly, it's about time to start rebuilding the line anyway.
Flozell is clearly losing the physical ability that makes up for his mental mistakes, so LT is already due for a replacement. None of the other guys are getting any younger either. It would be a long term process, the same way going from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense was.

I'd say Garrett is the next Dallas HC after Wade leaves
Jerry has called in favors, pulled strings, probably made some back room deal to keep Garrett here as OC, and he loves the guy. Plus you lose Garrett, you also lose his brother
Just my opinion from watching outside the bubble.

I would be happy with that
