Your Number For the Day
64.3
That's Nick "the Push" Folk's success percentage on field goals this year. That number is frightening low in today's game, but I went back to put his "failure" in historical context.
Here are the five best seasons for Lou "the Toe" Groza, the most heralded kicker from the straight-ahead, kick-with-your-toe era:
| Year | FG % |
| '53 | 88.5 % |
| '61 | 69.9% |
| '50 | 68.4% |
| '54 | 66.7% |
| '63 | 65.2% |
If Nick Folk were kicking in the early '60s, he would be a star. Unfortunately for him, he kicks in 2009. After last night's gaffe, he probably wishes he could build that time machine in his garage and join The Toe.

It's a sad, sad story
This team could really use the ’07/;08 Folk the next few weeks.

Fanpost!
I keed, I keed.
Folk was clutch, and now he’s not. No reason to be sentimental, especially this close to the playoffs. I wish him the best of luck in his career, but it’s time to move on.

No way
His injury has something to do with this.
I;m guesing he was still hurt early in the year and the misses are now mental.
we cut him and it will come back to haunt us.
Put him on IR and get another kicker.
Other guys are perfomring worse than him and we don’t cut them!!

He has to go
and that’s to bad I was hoping we had a FG kicker for years to come. Dallas can’t lose a game now because the kicker’s in a slump. If the coach thinks he can get over this slump then put him on IR till next year.
How bout dem Frogs!!!!

yeah he's done....
NFL Network showed his pregame practice kicks and they were awful…..We have to bring in someone because Folk is going to cost us a game if we depend on him…He nearly did last night..

How about Dempsey..he kicked better with half of a damn foot!
But today he’d probably be fined for having an illegal Driver in his bag..

Dude has built up some capital in the last two years
but i think they need to find a way to sit him and bring in another kicker.
i wondered yesterday is they can put him on IR.

some of those balls seemed to defy physics
as they hooked abruptly (NFLN was showing some of his warmup kicks).
bizarre.

Ever slice a golf ball 3 fairways over?
It’s the same motion causing those kicks to hook that hard right.

its all psychological
but we don’t have time to waste for Folk to get enough pats on the back to feel better. this is a business and Folk’s costing us. so Nick, pack your bags and get the Folk out of Dallas.
He can run for MILES and MILES and MILES!

I read
where they’re thinking of putting him on IR, and I think that’s the right move.

I like the IR idea.
NO way can they let him kick next week. Maybe he can come back next year.

Can anyone answer?
Is there a way to just basically stash him on IR? I don’t think it’s just that easy. To me it’s actually a good thing that he pre-game kicks were horrible too. That means there is something mechanical and consistently wrong. If he got the yips only during games that’s a brain freeze and to me harder to fix.

Is
Suisham available?
If so i’m sure he would like a hsot at beating theSkins this weekend!
by oneforthethumb on Dec 20, 2009 7:02 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
he sucks too
Might as well have Buehler start kicking FGs. Take his rookie lumps.
by quincyyyyy on Dec 20, 2009 7:05 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I agree Mechanical
I watched the game again this morning and put the replay of the missed FG on super slow motion. Folk’s plant foot landed past the ball by at least a foot, which did not let him finish his kick thus leading to the push.
Think of it like a golf swing if a kicker over steps his the plant stop, it’s like teeing up a golf ball in the back of your stands the chances of you getting the club head square is little to now.
This may be planned since he got used to McBriar reaching out for the ball or he was compensating for all the recent pulls.
Who knows, either way he is still missing them and you know that’s still messing with his mind. I hope he gets it figured out, but not this year. I can’t say ‘What the Folk’ every game.

Put him on IR...
I made this same comment in a FanPost. Stick him on IR; blame the hip sugery, and go sign… wait for it… Morten Andersen. He’s as old as the hills, but I’ll bet he’s still automatic from <40yds. From >40 either trot Buehler out there or just go for it on 4th down.

comparison to groza is tough
groza kicked outdoors in driving rain and snow, mud, freezing temperatures, soaked ball, etc. when you can’t hit an extra point inside the dome on a rug, that’s kinda bad…

Colts may be looking to bring Vinatieri back
That could make Stover available. Maybe that is why DAL seems to be waiting on this.

Folk to IR
Elam to finish out the season. Yes, he has struggled mightily as well. But a new team with no pressure (he was already cut once and the guy he would be replacing was pretty bad) just might let him knock a few FGs down. He was a monster as recently as last year (I know, so was Folk).
Its not just sentimentality when I say Folk was a monster for two seasons and was probably the most consistently reliable part of our WHOLE team. I say you sit him down and give him a shot at the position in training camp next year.

How about cut folk, and then have an audition between him and a handful of kickers
Maybe cutting him and seeing if he makes it through wavers would clear his head.
