Around SBN: Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire Vow To Fit In With Lin

RT Marc Colombo has been cleared to return for some "on-field work" at practice field this week.

From Todd Archer:

Colombo said "everything is looking good," for a possible return this season and his eyes are set on a possible wild-card round playoff game. Initially it was believed Colombo would only be able to return for the divisional round.

Colombo said the pain would not be an issue but strength would be.

yes tough to make a move.

but, your right Flo is just awful, tough to imagine Free being any worse.

Free has faced some good rush ends, I think he can handle it, especially the quicker/faster rushers.

That was my first thought when I saw this posted, but you beat me to it.

I haven’t watched Free for an entire game yet, but from what I’ve seen he’s been pretty good (unfortunately for me). Anyway, he can’t possibly be any worse than Flozell Adams right now. Adams is absolutely killing the Cowboys – He might be done.

Keep the good news rolling (rubbing hands furiously)!

I saw a dog today. Have you seen a dog? You probably have. How was school? Was it fun? Did you get a lot of homework? Huh? Do you have any friends? Do you have a best friend? Does he have a big coat, too?

LOL!

I love coming off a win, and being one win from the playoffs and knowing key players will be returning.

MartyB should be back this week, too!

Yes. I was being sarcastic.

I like what I have been seen out of Phillips more than I have had with Bennett.

Agreed completely. Marty B is physically the better talent, but Phillips has been great in the role he was in. Time to give him more opportunities.

Totally disagree, MartyB is a solid blocker and excellent receiver. We may have found another good TE, but don’t underestimate the manster Marty.

All my Giant friends are still in shock that we won.....

they were VERY MUCH counting on us losing and not having to play a must win game tonight…. I sure hope the Giants themselves were thinking the same thing. :)

Damn you guys are fast

But I agree with Quincyyyy, see how Flozell plays next week but he is quickly becoming a serious liability.

I would like to keep Free in the rotation as he seems to be getting better and worry about Colombo being rusty but Flo is starting to give me night terrors.

by Billito on Dec 21, 2009 12:20 PM CST reply actions

If nothing else Colombo could provide

depth, which is absent at this stage of the game.

Yup.

Get him rehabbed, work him in slowly…maybe not even until the divisional round. Then, he could come in and help us spank the Vikings in the NFC Championship.

Heck yes

If nothing else, much needed depth.

I think he’ll make it back for the playoffs (knock on wood)

He’s like an expert at rehabbing any leg injury by now.

He’s the LT the rest of the year unless he get hurt.

I agree.

No sense messing around with chemistry. He has his bad moments, but they know how to play with him.

It’s funny to me that everyone thinks he’s old, but he’s out there pulling people to the ground by their facemask. I hate the penalty at the time, though.

Old = Slow

Flo is still strong enough, he just moves his feet slower, so he’s getting beat a little more. He’s serviceable, but that’ll get Romo killed some days…

Badass

like head-butting MB3 after a TD?

He was pretty subdued most of the game. I think he sprained his tripping foot.

Keep doing what you been doing, keep getting what you been getting.

by OskieOskie on Dec 21, 2009 3:20 PM CST up reply actions

He may be getting older and slower

But he is still a force as LT.

Anybody read Bob Sturm’s analysis of sacks? (http://sturminator.blogspot.com/2009/12/football-301-targets-and-sacks-week-15.html)

He counts Flozell as responsible for 7. That’s a lot, but Flo is nasty and appears to be willing to do anything to keep TR upright. You have to admire that – at least for the rest of the season.

Once Colombo comes back Free should go back to being the backup LT, and maybe in training camp Free beats out Flo and Flo becomes backup and mentor for one more year before a graceful retirement.

When in doubt, empty your magazine

by MudMarine on Dec 21, 2009 2:56 PM CST up reply actions

Flozell a force!?

Let’s see;

He leads the team in sacks allowed

He probably leads the entire league in penalties

And he can’t get to the second level run blocking.

Flow is not a positive force, he’s a constant hurdle that this team has to overcome every game.

by Luke. on Dec 21, 2009 3:44 PM CST up reply actions

Obviously I appreciate what he brings...

as well as hate his screwups.

But, where are you going to get a LT to replace him?

Wasn’t that position importance list posted earlier:
QB
CB
LT

Those players don’t grow on trees and they’re not sitting at home on the coach waiting for JJ to call

When in doubt, empty your magazine

by MudMarine on Dec 21, 2009 3:56 PM CST up reply actions

Where are you going to get a LT to replace him?

I agree, there’s nothing we can do now with Colombo injured and Free at RT. We just need to hope Flow puts together a few decent games and doesn’t get Romo killed.

Still if Colombo hadn’t been injured I don’t think things would have got any worse if we had made the switch to Doug Free at LT.

Hopefully the draft or free agency brings in some more Tackle talent.

by Luke. on Dec 21, 2009 4:11 PM CST up reply actions

Can't argue with the position we're in right now

You’re absolutely right. If Flo is injured right now then Free moves to LT and McQ comes in at RT and we’re screwed.

Totally agree about the draft & FA. McQ appears to be a nice, big kid, but he hasn’t made any move toward moving anyone out.

We’re way worse at Tackle than any other position, even with Proctor in the mix (who could be cut IMO right now).

It definitely is a “hold our breath” moment until Colombo comes back and we have Free as a swing Tackle

When in doubt, empty your magazine

by MudMarine on Dec 21, 2009 4:23 PM CST up reply actions

flo is the LT till he gets hurt or the season ends

There is nobody on the roster who could
 do a better job at LT than Flo.

A bit sad perhaps, but true nonetheless.

::does a manly happy dance for O-Line depth::

Coach Winters: Mississippi State's offensive set. 2nd & 2 on our own 24, what defensive set might we call?
Alvin Mack: Eagle Zipper Hero, unless the setback shifts into the I.
Coach Winters: Good..[clicks to next slide], third and seven?
Alvin Mack: Oakie Thunder Lion. {What's your assignment?}
Alvin Mack: Kill the quarterback. {{Coach Winters clicks to next slide}}
Alvin Mack: Hit the tight end so hard his girlfriend dies. {{Coach Winters clicks to next slide}}
Alvin Mack: Kill everybody.

by KD Drummond on Dec 21, 2009 1:46 PM CST reply actions

This is good news as we have zero depth right now

but I truly hope they don’t rush Colombo back into the lineup (maybe Colombo’s seeing his job go bye bye and is rushing himself back?).

Doug Free is playing well, and playing well in December no less. Something Colombo has struggled with.

Colombo’s coming back from a serious leg injury and he wasn’t the most agile man to begin with anyway. If we make the divisional round and Free is playing well, why would we cahnge things up just to put Colombo back in? It’s not like he’s Eric Williams or Larry Allen.
