Playoff scenario question

If the Cowboys lose to the Redskins, but beat the Eagles, they obviously would be 10-6.  If Philly loses to Seattle and to us, they obviously would be 10-6.  If the Giants win out, they obviously would be 10-6.  Who wins the division?  We would hold the tiebreaker over the Eagles, but the Giants would hold the tiebreaker over us.  I think this would leave us out of the playoffs, but i am not sure.  Anybody have the answer?

Yeah that's funny

That would mean we swept Philly, Philly swept NY, and NY swept us.
Not sure what would happen, it would probably go to common opponents or NFC record, and I’m guessing we might be on the outside looking in.

I’m guessing we would be out, as we would be the only East team to drop one to the Redskins, as one of the bloggers here suggested earlier might be the case.

Anyway, schizophrenic as they are, I can’t see Philly losing to the Seagulls, so we don’t have to worry about it.

Forgot to mention records...

NYG and PHI would both be 4-2 in the division, we would be 3-3. I"m guessing that would be enough to get us a seat on the couch, watching the playoffs from home.

First Tiebreaker within Divisions

Is head-to-head record. If things play out like you suggest, We would all be 2-2 against each other. Note: The Eagles play Denver at home next week, not Seattle.

Second tie-breaker is records within the division. New York and Philadelphia would be 4-2, we would be 3-3. We drop to third place, and the other two would move to the third tieblreaker, which is conference record. If it plays out like you say, Philadelphia would be 9-3, and the Giants would be 8-4. Eagles win the division

The only way we make the playoffs under this scenario is if Green Bay loses their last two games, to Seatlle and Arizona.

You're right in the conclusion, but not the second step

Step one is right, Cowboys drop to 3 b/c of their division record. BUT, at that point since there are only 2 teams in competition, it goes head-head, which the Eagles win anyway vs the Giants.

Those TWO loses to the Giants...

…coupled with that lose at Green Bay have turned out to be a real thorn in our side. Dallas must win out and finish 11-5. It’s the only way to be sure.

The 2009 Dallas Cowboys: Talk to me in December.
The NFC East has won 11 Super Bowls; oddly none of those have come courtesy of the Eagles.

It's Almost Like Our Season

Has come down to winning the last two, or likely being out of the playoffs.

But that’s okay with me. If we can’t beat the Eagles at home, or the Redskins anywhere, we probably don’t deserve to be in the playoffs.

i agree

how can we expect to win anything in the playoffs if we can’t beat those 2 right now. Especially that Redskin team that played last night. I thought we all agreed that divisional opponents throw their records out the door when they play each other. It didn’t seem that way last night. the Redskins just mailed it in. i wonder what Redskin team will show up next week.

you just can't approach it that way

Arizona laid down and played dead last december. Philly lost an embarrasing game to washington last december week 16.

It just doesn’t work that way. Its a week to week league.

The Skins gift wrapped that game...

I swear it seems they are intentionally helping anyone besides the Cowboys in our division. I had a feeling they’d lose that game and from the looks of it they didn’t even care that it’d look like they’re helping the giants…

They didn't help us the 1st game

The final score did not indicate the fact that we could not move the ball on them all game. DeSean Jackson had 2 big plays that went for scores…literally 2 plays, that’s all we had on the Redskins. Our 2nd win was more complete.

I dont think we have to win out

I can easily see the Giants losing 1 (or both) of their last two. They’ve been very inconsistent all year, and they’re 6-6 against all teams besides us. Carolina isnt awful right now, and Minn may have something to play for (even tho theyre struggling anyway)

Thanks

i kind of figured this was the case. sorry about the seattle mix up. i’ve been paying attention to green bay’s schedule as well since they’re in the discussion too. those 2 losses to the Giants might really come back to haunt us like no other losses this year.

This is the best site for playoff scenarios

Just pick the teams to win as you wish and it magically shows the playoffs brackets with teams!
