Honestly, didn't see the NYG collapse happening. But all you have to do is take the Way Back Machine all the way to last season. The parallels to the Cowboys underachieving ways of last year are astounding in their similarity.
1) Teams don't win championships in OCT. Everyone annointed the Giants after reeling off 6 wins
2) Clueless DC. Compounded by a prima donna(we had one, too except he was a WR) DL who's mouth produced far more than his play
3) A 2-for-1 - Loss at the Last Game in Hallowed Stadium and Gutless Late Season Collapse with Playoffs on The Line. JJT would have a month's worth of columns on this. He might even use a thesaurus to find synonyms for Poppycock, Ridiculous and Raggedy. Read the NY/NJ papers today-they have plenty
4) And as a cherry on this crap sundae, Harry Carson was complaining about the G-Men players laughing it up on the sideline while, 'getting their asses whipped.' Sounds like a certain plane ride back from PHL last year.
Throw in the horrible national TV appearance in DEN when the division lead was there for the taking and you have a recipe for how not succeed when it matters most. Something I thought DAL invented last year.
I for one, believe it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of guys. And have to admit after more than a little angst this season, the changes we've made are producing the intended results. For one of the few times as a fan, I had no idea what to expect. All you want is a shot, and we have one - playing for the NFC East and a home playoff game. I think we have enough positives to make it happen and enough negatives to worry we might not.
But at least we're not the Gnats. Or the Cowboys of '08.
