Question from an Eagles fan

Simple poll.

I wanted to know if you feel the Cowboys would be better if you had Terrell Owens and never traded for Roy Williams. Just wondering how you guys feel about everything after the fact. I mean, I know it's all working out for you as it is right now, but personally, as an Eagles fan, I think your team would be even more intimidating if you had TO still and never wasted the picks on Roy. I know Roy has been better in the second half of this year, so maybe he's coming around. I won't claim to be an expert on your team, you surely follow them more than I do.

Like I said, simple poll, just wanted to know how you felt about it.

you de crazy man

Thank goodness he’s gone

Like most, I voted for no TO nor RW!
Wish we had those 2 picks back back.

The thing I would say is that we were luky it happened the way it did.

We may have gotten rid of Austin and then never found out his real potential….Otherwise we could still being WR purgatory.

by UTexan on Dec 29, 2009 11:04 AM CST up reply actions

Not sure who told you he's been better the second half

he’s been shitty both halves. Obviously the picks would be great to have back. All in all, we are better off (on the field) with TO gone and Roy here. That is mainly because we have been blessed with the emergence of Miles Austin. Without Austin, this season would look pretty bad in the passing numbers. With TO here, there’s no doubt he would have put up numbers probably comparable to Austin’s but we wouldn’t have known what we had in Austin and we would have constant drama week in and week out. It has been truly nice with TO and the drama gone.

not great, but better than he was.

That is not corect

You can criticise Owens as a bad teammate and disruptive of team chemistry, but he certainly does not suck.

I would definitely agree with the team he is with. I would say that is probably the biggest factor.

I don't necessarily think he sucks...

but I don’t think he’s an elite receiver anymore.

I also don’t think that he JUST wants to win.

I think he wants stats and a win, because he doesn’t look ridiculously happy when he gets 30 yds and his team wins.

by The Immortal Iron Fist AKA AFB on Dec 28, 2009 7:41 PM CST up reply actions

T.O. sucks

he gets owned on the line of scrimmage. If you get up in his face and jam him at the line you can shut him down.

He’ll make a play every now and then, but not nearly enough to be worth putting him on the field except situationally.

our oline doesn't do our qb many favors either

and our offense is doing pretty well, I see no reason why TO would make us any better.

by foyesboys on Dec 29, 2009 2:05 PM CST up reply actions

Our QB is Tony Romo.

And our O-line is pretty good, for damn sure better than Buffalo’s. They are on their 3rd string QB, Brian Brohm. Before that he had Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards throwing to him.

Tony Romo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Any of those three.

T.O. is 10000x the receiver Roy Williams is. It’s not even up for discussion. I understand why he’s gone, but to say that there’s not a drop-off in production from T.O. to Roy Williams is just stupid.

I have a few questions for you yomjoseki

How big a loss is Jamal Jackson?

Where does he rank among your offensive linemen?

What do you think of Max Jean-Gilles?

by quincyyyyy on Dec 28, 2009 5:56 PM CST reply actions

You know, honestly, our line is full of guys who plug other holes along the line at a moment’s notice. Our smaller guards can all fill in pretty well at center, and our guards can fill in at tackle when needed. I don’t think it’s that huge of a loss, but it definitely kills our depth. We’re already struggling a decent bit with injuries on the line and if we get another, it could be backbreaking.

by DIRE WOLF on Dec 29, 2009 10:33 AM CST up reply actions

Oh, I guess I didn’t really answer all your questions. Ranking him? Well, I’d say he’s tied for 3rd, with Justice. Peters and Herremans really do a hell of a job for us. Plus, just the fact that Herremans can fill in at tackle when someone else is hurt is invaluable. Jackson was considered the leader of the line, though, and that may be more cause for concern than I expected.

MJG makes some mistakes but he has had some very good games and filled in pretty well last year when called upon before he messed up his ankle. I’m glad we have him. We’ve had to use him a good bit and I can’t remember him making any really bonehead plays.

by quincyyyyy on Dec 28, 2009 8:36 PM CST up reply actions

He said earlier this year that he wouldn't want to leave for another team

Because he wants to be a cornerstone for this franchise’s turnaround, and joining an already winning team would kind of feel like piggybacking onto their success, it wouldn’t be as fulfilling as turning the Rams around.

I seriously hope they can do that while he’s still good, but it seems unlikely, sadly.

by Joon on Dec 29, 2009 12:14 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah, Harvin wouldve been deadly in this offense as the slot guy.....something were missing now and hope to get next draft

but, who are we kidding..Jerry wouldve traded down the first round pick so far we would’ve had a bunch of late round picks…Hopefully, Jerry breaks the trend and gets a playmaking WR to play the slot and contribute on special teams as a returner…Harvin couldve been that guy…

What we gave up for him, but compare him to most 2nd string WR’s, his numbers aren’t bad. He might not always be reliable, but he scores touchdowns. Jason witten might be the most reliable player on the team, but he doesn’t score touchdowns.

No matter how this year plays out, I am enjoying this team a 100% more with TO gone. I hated him so much last season and he seemed to suck the life out of this team.

I argued loudly and often

you couldn’t get rid of TO without knowing how to replace his production. Turns out the production was already on the roster(Miles), but we thought it was elsewhere(RW). We were fortunate, the transformation into a top flite WR, who had trouble staying on the field up to that point, started more from circumstance than design.

Would I have liked the draft picks – sure, but that’s getting pretty greedy. There’s no way we get rid of TO if JJ didn’t believe RW would be productive

by tdships on Dec 28, 2009 11:31 PM CST reply actions

Agreed

Taking hindsight out of the equation, there’s no way JJ lets TO go without having made the trade for RW. I look at the trade this way to keep from going insane. We gave up a 1st for Austin and a 3rd for RW. And that’s what we got, a #1 receiver and a #3 receiver, respectively.

Some people suggested they bring him back this year, lol. I wouldn’t want him on my team again, ever, though. I just don’t think he’s worth the negative impact he has. I would feel bad for him wasting away in Buffalo for a year, but then I remember the bullshit he put his teams through in the past and how selfish he is, and I come to my senses and realize he deserves it. I hope he finishes out his career in Oakland.

I think all that is highly overrated.

The best reason is the one that Jerry gave – that with TO on the team, Romo did not have room to grow into the leader we needed him to be.

by foyesboys on Dec 29, 2009 2:09 PM CST up reply actions

Definitely picked to get rid of TO...

TO, when in Dallas, was a great player production-wise. Having the benefit of hindsight though, it is pretty clear to me that our team is better off without him though. We have managed to replace him production-wise with Austin (albeit a little later than ideal), and it is clear to me now that with him gone, Romo has blossomed in many ways and gotten even better. I also appreciate not having to deal with the media circus that TO always brings.

As for Roy, I was torn. On the one hand, I have been one of his more staunch defenders on the basis of that I think he has more natural talent than any other receiver on this roster not named Miles Austin (i.e. he is the only WR that could have caught that TD pass against Washington). On the other hand though, he has become extremely frustrating to watch at times as I think he is in his own head and therefore making easy plays look difficult. I eventually decided to go with the last option, partially because I would love to believe that everything is perfect, and also because I do actually believe that Roy can be an extremely solid number two if he could just get over what seems to be a mental block.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

by Cowboyfan729 on Dec 29, 2009 4:13 PM CST reply actions

Don't think it's a mental block at all....

it’s more of a “losers mentality” learned from all those years in Detroit. That’s hard to change when that’s all you’ve known throughout your career. His attitude needs adjusting. I still can’t get over the fact that he publicly said he didn’t know what his purpose on the team was. Excuse me?

What RW needs is a mentor to show him how to work, like say a Michael Irvin, whom he has already slighted. He seems to not want to show respect to others who have paved the way for him, therefore he should be given no respect for his own inabilities.

To say that we are definitely better off without "idiot' is a vast HUGE understatement

The Cowboys are a TEAM again. And, that’s the whole point. To someone like him, that’s a foreign concept. His kind will never understand it if the entire organization doesn’t revolve around him.

The last year he was here, how many passes did he drop? How many passes did he bobble in his hands before dropping the ball? I can remember him bobbling a pass in the end zone in which he more or less flipped the ball to the db covering him, resulting in a turnover.

TO is an overrated loud mouth. Go ask the fans in Buffalo what they think of their new “elite” receiver.
