Celek should have made it over Witten. Years are comparable, but the TD receptions are what put Celek over the top. No argument there at all.

Hell no slandog.

The stupid statement he made about Celek and Witten. Celek is an average TE at best. Witten is a HOFer. Stats don’t tell you crap about aTE and the value he is to your team. It just shows he doesn’t know sh!t about football, but that’s not a news flash.

even though he deserved it. He got caught in a numbers crunch when there are a lot of QBs having great seasons. I’d imagine he’d be the #4 QB if one of the first 3 drops out for any reason.

Otherwise, not sure about Gurode or Bigg making it. Neither has been all that impressive to me.

Biggest snub is Jenkins

Not a lot of people know his name yet though .. but I think people will know it by post-season’s end.

Romo has been excellent, but with the other guys in the NFC, and their numbers, it was gonna be hard. Good thing though, when Troy was winning Super Bowls, he often got overlooked for the guys putting up big yards and touchdown numbers like Favre and Young, but Aikman was the most effecient. Lets hope the same reaps true for Tony.

Brooking has been nothing short of fantastic for us

But I wouldn’t put him in over Patrick Willis and Jon Beason/London Fletcher. Fletcher definitely deserves a nod, it sucks that he’ll probably retire without the recognition.

by Joon on Dec 29, 2009 6:53 PM CST reply actions

I think that Austin

got robbed of his starting position by Jackson. His number are better in almost every category (except plays of 40+ and YPC, only a 2 yard difference) and Jackson got the start, not right. More yards, catches, TDs, YPG, first downs, less fumbles. Jackson deserves the kick returner, but not starting WR

by sduncan24 on Dec 29, 2009 6:55 PM CST reply actions

Love the both of them but Jackson has something like 10 plays of over 50 or more...

add to that his numbers from the line of scrimmiage are more and his returns on special teams gave him the nod over Austin

then why are you a cowboys fan?

Desean Jackson... "If He's even, He's leavin"

by 700 Level on Dec 30, 2009 7:13 AM CST up reply actions

Maybe Because

a) He isn’t a native of Philadelphia. People often root for the team they grew up with—for example, displaced Eagles fans now living in Dallas. Should they now root for the Cowboys? OR
b) His family lived elsewhere previously and carried a loyalty to another team before they moved to Philadelphia, and he followed their tradition of rooting for them. OR
c) He is a life-long resident of Philadelphia, and can’t stand the obnoxiousness and stupidity of several of their fans, or the futility of the franchise, and has decided to root for the Cowboys.

There may be other reasons, but those three are the obvious ones.

Raid who exactly?

You notice LTs have become an overreach position? The demand so exceeds the supply that teams are snagging them much earlier than they’re rated. (more on this in a minute)

When a good LT does come available, it costs a lot to get him. Look at what the Eagles paid for Peters, and I doubt they regret paying Buffalo’s price one bit.

On the flip side, Dallas has Mike Jenkins because teams like the Lions panicked and took a guy like Gosder Cherilus 19th. Same for the Texans and their LT Brown. Not a good player. But once the run started in ’07, there were what, six guys taken between 12 and 21. Ryan Clady, Jeff Otah were rated up there, but Brandon Albert, Sam Baker, Chris Williams and especially Cherilus were not rated that high.

But OT has the best hit rate of any offensive position and teams need young OTs, so I expect this to continue.

by Rafael Vela on Dec 29, 2009 8:19 PM CST up reply actions

Steal A LT in Free Agency

Like the guy in Tampa Donald Penn; we could do what the Vikings did when they stole Hutchinson from Seatle; only issue is I guess the guy is restricted given uncapped year so we would end up spending draft picks.

McNabb...

First alternate… Woohoo!!!

by JimmyK on Dec 29, 2009 8:05 PM CST reply actions

we all realize it's not about the Pro Bowl

It’s about the recognition of your peers and the fans. I don’t know how McNabb makes it ahead of Romo as an alternate. McNabb has a lower passing percentage, touchdowns, higher interceptions.

by DatNguyenNguyenScenario on Dec 29, 2009 8:22 PM CST reply actions

yeah

hopefully we can prove them wrong this year

by Dr. Cowboy on Dec 29, 2009 8:36 PM CST up reply actions

I'll concede McNabb for Romo..

If you admit Celek should have made it over Witten.

by IgglesFanDeployd on Dec 29, 2009 8:39 PM CST up reply actions

celek is very much benefiting from the ridiculous deep threat desean provides

look at wittens stats two years ago w/ TO in his best year. ypc is much higher.

Untill somewhat recently, defenses were completely keying on witten

mmmmm

how about you just not come to the dallas blog instead?

by The Immortal Iron Fist AKA AFB on Dec 29, 2009 8:44 PM CST up reply actions

Nope and neither am I

Just really wish that I could read a Cowboys blog without eagles fans everywhere.

by The Immortal Iron Fist AKA AFB on Dec 29, 2009 8:50 PM CST up reply actions

Yes...

Which would explain it if it was only this week when you see the migration, not the other whole part of the season.

Sorry dude didnt realize you were gonna be sensitive...

And if you check back I only get on the Dallas blog when it pretains to the Birds. That being said my only points was Romo is having a better year than McNabb and should have made the Probowl. Also Celek is having a better year than Witten and should have made the Probowl. Didn’t attack your team, didn’t get foul mouthed with anyone. Just calm football talk. I think that is what these blogs are for guy.

by IgglesFanDeployd on Dec 30, 2009 1:42 AM CST up reply actions

It's cool...

It’s really not you either.

Just was in a bad mood and hate the fact that week by week I have to see fans from other blogs (mainly eagle fans), throw their analysis this way.

by The Immortal Iron Fist AKA AFB on Dec 30, 2009 7:52 AM CST up reply actions

They're better than the Saints fans, imo.

by Joon on Dec 30, 2009 9:43 PM CST up reply actions

I think Celek should have made it too

but he’s not having a better year. He has one superior stat. The rest are below Witten. I actually consider them to be about equivalent, although different. I would have hacked out Davis for Celek.

If there was a position for H-back on the Pro Bowl Roster, I would definitely take Celek.

The problem is:
1)Drops passes
2) Doesn’t block anywhere close to how Witten blocks. (He was handling Orakpo on Sunday.)

by DatNguyenNguyenScenario on Dec 29, 2009 8:50 PM CST up reply actions

I'm not against him making it...

Celek over Witten?

you’re kidding right? lol

"When people talk about Super Bowl dynasties they mention the 1970's Steelers, 1980's 49ers, 1990's Cowboys and the current New England Patriots, but nobody has dominated the Super Bowl like Anheuser-Busch. In recent years, Budweiser has been the MVP of Super Bowl advertising -- making another company the favorite to win the Ad Meter poll was never an option."

Celek blocks better.

The fact Austin made it,

gives him additional fire power when signing a new deal after this year.

by Nisri on Dec 29, 2009 9:20 PM CST reply actions

2 things a TE should do well

1) Block
2) Catch

We both know Jason is a better blocker than Celek, and he has more catches. Yes he’s got more TDs, but the 2 primary responsibilities of the position, Witten is better at. Those 2 facets trump the TDs.

by DatNguyenNguyenScenario on Dec 29, 2009 9:22 PM CST reply actions

TD’s – 8 to 1.

by JimmyK on Dec 29, 2009 9:23 PM CST up reply actions

The other one did make it far too many times....

On a side note I’m starting to think that we’re just cursed with Roy Williamses sucking. Can Roy like change his last name, 85-style, or something?

by U2boy417 on Dec 29, 2009 10:59 PM CST up reply actions

I haven't cared about the Pro Bowl since the Cowboys had that huge number get in

a couple of years ago and then did nothing in the playoffs. It is nice to see Austin getting some love, though.

by Fernie67 on Dec 29, 2009 10:40 PM CST reply actions

Here's to none of them actually playing in the game!

but these guys all deserve the honor, and how many of us at the start of the season predicted Miles would be in the pro-bowl? lol. His season (and what it means for the future) is the best thing to happen to this team since… well Tony Romo!

by scottmaui on Dec 30, 2009 12:19 AM CST reply actions

Congratulations to our Pro-Bowlers. They are all very deserving. Now beat Philly

and all will be right with the World. They’ll add Romo to the squad later, once they see his terrific finish against the Eagles. By the way, the game is on TV (CH 40) in Northern California, Sund. 1:00pm pst. GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by CowboyMan on Dec 30, 2009 12:59 AM CST reply actions

Hey...it's NOT about the Pro Bowl

If the team makes the Super Bowl and wins it, then the WHOLE team get’s recognized for that achievement. I rather remember them for that than a few making a forgettable pro bowl.

As someone above mentioned already, the Cowboys had 11 or 12 go to the pro bowl in 2007. Didn’t mean a damn thing when we lost to the Giants.

by Cowboy88 on Dec 30, 2009 1:33 AM CST reply actions

13 actually I think

but of course it’s not what really matters, and the players themselves say that. so we don’t want them actually playing in the game, when they’re preparing for the SB!

but still, it’s good that they get the recognition they deserve.

Plus, the Austin Pro Bowl jersey will look really cool I bet!

Witten over Celek is just insane

but theres no denying that Celek has had a better year than Witten has.

Hopefully Celek has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder now because of it

I'm denying it because it's not true

Witten clearly outperformed Celek all season in terms of being a complete TE and he will do so in these next two games as well to prove he’s the more deserving TE.

In Romo we Trust

One TD, Terry. One TD.

And let’s face it: Romo is doing this with less talent than Donovan has.

Question...

has there ever been a probowl that had two undrafted free agensts (Austin and Welker) in the pro bowl?

by The Immortal Iron Fist AKA AFB on Dec 30, 2009 10:08 AM CST reply actions

Rephrased again...

two undrafted free agent receivers?

I bet this is the first.

by The Immortal Iron Fist AKA AFB on Dec 30, 2009 10:11 AM CST up reply actions

Oooohhh, a stat challenge

If you count Antonio Gates (TE) as a receiver, he was selected to the 2005 Pro Bowl with Rod Smith (WR), both UFA.

Rod Smith, Welker and now Miles are the only undrafted WRs to make the Pro Bowl.

I think players and coaches vote him in because he is especially large and powerful for his position

I Love It!!!

Hmmm,Dallas has allowed 30pts twice this season, losing twice to the Gimps by a total of 9pts,shut-out a division opponent @ their house and Held 3 top 10 offenses to under 20pts.
Ohh.. and even though the shut-out was against the ’Skins anemic offense we can say our defense makes even the most prolific offenses, brutally average.

Good job Miles! But this might be a Romo snub

Miles deserved this selection, there are only a few recievers that were as big for an offense as he was. It would have been ridiculous for him not to be picked. I think Romo should have been selected atleast as a reserve, but oh well maybe he will play with a chip on his shoulder sunday and throughout the playoffs.
