Miles Austin 3rd in fan voting for the Pro Bowl

From Calvin Watkins at ESPN Dallas Blog

Miles Austin to the Pro Bowl?

December, 1, 2009

By Calvin Watkins

The Pro Bowl voting for the fans ends Dec. 21, and there is only one Cowboys' player leading at his position -- outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware

But there is a surprise wide receiver moving up the ranks. Miles Austin is third among wide receivers in the fan voting.

Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald is first with over 500,000 votes, and Philadelphia's DeSean Jackson is second with 293,408 votes. Austin is third with 261,107 votes.

Fans count as one-third of the voting process, with the players and coaches each picking up one-third.

Could Austin surpass Jackson in the next two weeks? It depends how he does at the New York Giants and against San Diego, two games that many fans will get to see nationally.

With only 7 starts so far this year, Austin ranks 1st in yards per reception among players with more than 12 receptions, at 19.6.  With 8 touchdowns, he's tied with Randy Moss behind only Larry Fitzgerald and Reggie Wayne who each have 9. (By the way, only two other receivers in Cowboys history have ever scored 8 TDs in a season—Michael Irvin and Terrell Owens). He's in a 5-way tie (with Colston, Moss, Wayne and Rice) for 1st place in plays of 20+ yards with 15, and tied for 2nd with Rice, one behind Jackson, with 6 plays of 40+ yards.  All in 7 starts.  Plus he undoubtedly leads the league in smiles!  Miles Austin truly deserves to be in the Pro Bowl, so let's help send him there...

Watkins also says: "Also, it's worth noting that Sam Hurd is second in voting among special teamers. The Vikings' Heath Farwell has 103,215 votes; Hurd has 70,647."

How sweet would it be if Austin and Hurd both made it to the Pro Bowl this year?

Go submit your ballot today to make sure they get there! (Too bad it's not in Hawaii this year lol). And of course vote for all your other favorite players as well...

(You can vote as many times as you want btw.)

He may or may not deserve the Pro Bowl. The title is a joke anyway.

This month will tell the story. Is he really a go to guy? Doesn’t it take consistency to tell? Anyone one can have good games and bad games, and even have streaks in either case. I like Austin, always have like his potential, and now it seems as if he is starting to manifest it on the field; real players make real plays in big games; While he has made some plays , even big plays to win games, one must remember it is now crunch time.

Unfortunately, as always, I must now insert the disclaimer to keep some of the trash replys down.

Football, is a team sport which means winning and losing cannot be put on 1 player, so the the team as a whole has to recommit and shift into another gear.

Keep in mind

that without Austin this team woudn’t be wehere its at. The game in KC was huge as well as the one in Philly.

Austin has been as consistent as any other receiver

He has put up huge numbers, then had a few quiet games where he was still able to make important catches. In my book, he has proven himself.

Also, his stats in fewer games are better than Duh-Sean’s stats. He deserves it more than him. He is stronger, just about as fast and makes people miss. he is a real deal WR, whereas Duh-Sean, in my opinion, will not be so dangerous once people get used to him.

"Right after the game, say as little as possible."
