Cowboys Drop Division Game To Giants, 31-24
No excuses for that one. The Dallas Cowboys got manhandled by a fired up New York Giants team, losing 31-24 after opening up with a solid 10-0 lead. Dallas couldn't run the ball, the defense gave up some big plays and special teams broke down with a missed FG and a punt return for a touchdown. Also, one crucial fumble gave the Giants a big momentum swing heading into halftime.
By dropping this game, the Eagles have caught Dallas in the NFC East (technically Dallas owns the tiebreaker for now) and the Giants are only one game out. Instead of gripping the lead tight, the Cowboys have opened the door for a three-team melee in quest of the NFC East crown.
It doesn't get any easier, the next two games are against the Chargers and the Saints. Those two games will go a long way toward deciding which direction this Cowboys season goes. They're still in good shape for a playoff run, but they'll need some stout efforts over the next two weeks.
Vent in this thread.
(Keep it clean, and keep the name-calling and other crap out of the threads. We will be moderating closely.)

Yeah, the play where he was shoved a little bit
and stumbled back about 5 yards was completely on the O-line.
Jimmy Johnson for GM.
Oline didn't do well either, but
Barber needs to chip away at the defense. He got hit more than he hit others.
I feel as tough he didn't want to run tough.
He just didn’t hit the hole hard, and was prancing around too much. Speed and quickness is what we expect from Jones, Barber just needs to inflict pain and he didn’t do it.
Barber has started to look like Julius Jones

I want him twisting and spinning again!
It looked as if he didn’t have enough momentum on that 4th down catch.

on that 4th down catch
he didn’t have the football sense to get across the first down mark
when he was JJ’s backup, he had average ability w/ a huge chip on his shoulder.
now he just has average ability

He had just released from the backfield, hadn't really had time yet
And wanted to give Romo an underneath option, I guess. Not a great play, but not the biggest gaffe Barber made on the day.
Larry Allen benched 700 pounds. That is Leonard Davis times two.
Horrible, Horrible, Horrible
I want to believe in this team, but games like this make me feel like all hope is lost.
At least Romo had a great game…. Too bad the rest of this squad hung him out to dry.
Damn it.
Tony did his part - disappointed in Troy comments on hold on Jacobs TD
Tony managed the game well, minus the missed downfield play to a wide open Roy W, and
throwing behind Choice on the 3rd down play.
Will give him the benefit of the doubt that he may have thought choice would be there.
Biggest question to me is the obvious jersey grab on the Jacobs TD catch.
It was clearly visible several times, and all Troy could say was he " may " have gotten away with a hold there.
Come on, tell it like it is , he clearly had a handfull of Sensi’s Jersey from the back, and to me should have at least been called for blocking in the back..
I was screaming for the holding call....
The minute that Jacobs hit the sideline…. You could see it from every angle.
Even with that non-call, the defense was horrible. I’m tired of seing Carpenter attacked on third downs, and failing. I’m tired of seeing teams throw toward Scandrick to have him seriously fail in coverage. This D had better step it up, or these next two weeks are going to be brutal.
I was not refrencing that play particularly
I know Spencer blew that play to Jacobs. But every time a team has 3 and 6-10, they’re attacking Carp over the middle of the field. The Gints converted at least 2 easy first downs going right at Carp this game.
Next game, watch on 3rd (Nickel situations) and pay attention to how much teams will attack the middle of the field. Carpenter is awful.
I don’t like saying that, but he is constantly out of position, or drawing himself out of coverage and/or tackling lanes.
On the Giants blog
they are complaining about the push off by Williams on the first TD
You win some and you lose some, Williams did not get a flag and Jacob did not
either
way it was a huge play and they would still have been in great position. our defense looked so bad.. before they brought back the punt, steve smith let one bounce of his hands that they should have had. we couldn’t get to eli, again, and it was painful to watch. Wade clearly has a very tough time at making adjustments… whatever defense shows up in the 1st will show up in the 3rd, and good coaches just don’t do that. they change it up, they adjust they fix mistakes, they improve matchups….they replace the kicker when he is missing 7 out of his last ten or whatever it is. this was a tough loss..
Texas Stadium has a hole in the roof so God can watch his favorite team play football.
Don't go laying this on
Wade now. Lombardi couldn’t have gotten this D to play beeter.
I think he gave Folk too much of the benefit of the doubt.
2 were attributed to McBriar, and one hit the upright, and at this point, I just don’t see how you don’t sit him for a week and tell him to get his skite together and let beauhler do place kicking for a week.
I agree. The ball should have been at the 40.
I’m surprised he even mentioned it may be a hold. He tries to go so far the other direction to look unbiased, but it just comes off as ignorant. Troy didn’t have his best game as a color man. He didn’t know that we were out of challenges. And that 2nd challenge was just awful. The men upstairs should have been able to definitely tell that he was inbounds.
It doesn't matter that Romo played well,
it will still go down as another loss on his December record and the story cycle continues to churn.
yeah that's what sucks

It's so frustrating.
It’s like attributing all the losses to Spears who was here for all the Decembers and played in all the games.
Well, since Romo played well we can look at it only having to take half of the December blues crap this week.

Heaven forbid if the Redskin won
Romo Played Well but . . .
He missed a couple of key throws.
it IS brutal
12-0 Saints, Chargers who haven’t lost in December since……..2005?, the Redskins who took NOLA to the limit, and the Eagles who always beat us in December. I haven’t bailed on the team yet, but we CANNOT have games like this!
Cowboys, meet gut check.
I still believe in Romo.
The Chargers are worrying
but we have already beaten the Skins and Eagles (at the Linc) so we should win those games, adn the Saints are decidedly beatable, and I think we match up well against them. I predict 3 of 4 wins
The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!

must have forgotten it was December
It is Cowboys hybenation month
ie down by 7, Romo miss wide open receiver who had noone within 10 yd of him
Game over there
Honestly, I could see us losing next two and winning last two
Not to say Redskins or Eagles are easy, but I hate the Chargers matchup and the Saints will be a tough one. Problem is that the mental breakdown after three losses to kickoff December will probably prevent us from winning the last two.
It depends on which Cowboys team comes out.
the one that plays hard and smart, or the one with bad tackling, bad penalties, bad drops. We aren’t beating Notre Dame if the later team shows up.
really?
you look at the Chargers, Saints, Skins, and Eagles and decide that the Chargers are the only ones who have a chance at beating you?
I would feel more inclined to think that I would lose to the Eagles and Skins because season sweeps are a rare occurance in our division.

We shouldn't be too happy with our performance against the skins...
We needed Suisham to miss a kick in that game too, just like the Saints did.
Comeback wins in the division are always something to be happy about.
The Skins aren’t as bad as their record, especially recently.

The Skins defense has been good all year
They held you scoreless for MOST of a game…
They’re offense has even shown some signs of life recently. They have the pieces, they just can’t seem to put them together.

The fact is we will have to win 3 out of 4 to have a chance of making the playoffs...
We really needed that win against the Giants for tie breaker purposes….If the Packers and Giants go 10-6 we are done…10-6 wont get it done for us and if this trend continues this month we maybe 9-7 at this end of the day…

no, we have to win 3 out of 4 to win the division
2 wins gets us a WC. We have this argument every year and every year you’re always wrong. 10 wins gets you in, it does every year in the NFC and nothing will be any different this season.
In Romo we Trust
No Terry we have to win 3 out of 4 to have a chance at the playoffs the way things are shaping up
we dont have the tie breaker with the Giants or Packers….Us going 10-6 wont help us if the Giants and Packers have the same record…Let’s be realistic here…we aren’t winning the next 3 out of 4…
"Austin made the play, Austin saved the day" Brad Sham
have to agree with you on this Boyz......
because the Giants and Packers do own the tie-breaker over us. That’s saying that we all go 10-6 of course.
Seriously dude Jason Campbell looked like Peyton Manning against
you guys. Giants got some lucky breaks against us, but you made Campbell look all world.
Yeah, but the Saints made Tom Brady look like Jason Campbell...
So don’t get too excited about it.
So the Saints made Tom Brady look like Jason Campbell who looked like Peyton Manning
Therefore, there is still hope!
Thru thick and thin
I will stay with this team. They may frustate me to death but at least I’ve enjoyed 5 SuperBowl championships along the way. What do the Saints have?
Saints are like fine aged wine..................
It took the Steelers 40+ years to win a championship. When they did, they won three in a row. The Terry Bradshaw, Chuck Nowls era. They became a dynasty. It will be worth the wait if my Saints can pull it off and right now it looks like a Black and Gold SuperBowl.
The Saints have a very good shot, but don't get ahead of yourself.
You still have games to play.

but of course my concern about his rl kicking dwarfs that. last two years i felt very confident he would make long 40+ and even 50+ yarders, now I am almost expect him to miss even short rangers. something is seriously wrong with him.

Was it just me, or did Choice not see the field after the fumble that wasn't?
I like holding players accountable, but I think it should be spread around more.
This team sprung leaks in all three areas, but the defense had the biggest lapses
they allowed a long drive in the 2nd quarter and that huge swing pass to Jacobs. They did not seal up the run well enough. Romo did not add to the fire but it was a complete failure to step up to the challenge. I do not even know where to start with what this team is going to do.

Thank you Sam Hurd
What the hell was Hurd thinking? He was only 5 yards down and decieded he wanted to catch the onside. If he had kept his hands to himself, that ball would have bounced of the NYG shoulder and dallas recovers, and Romo marches us down to victory. Hate to pin a lose on one play, cause the wide open williams overthrow didn’t help either.

Here comes the they can't win in december talk
This game to me hurts more than the first game. Our defense let us down today like they did in the 1st game. Romo played well, but again we threw the football too much. We pretty much have put ourselves in a must win position next week. I’m interested in seeing how they play next Sunday.
but again we threw the football too much
We threw it cause we were avg. less than 2 yrds/carry.
by Dallas Mutha F'ing Cowboys on Dec 6, 2009 6:49 PM CST up reply actions
I know they were only averaging 2 yds a run
But still you don’t abandon the run like they did. We weren’t balance, and even though Romo had a big game we were predictable. Jason Garrett called a bad game.
that's an incomplete view
the point is you don’t give up on the run early, even if struggling early. The idea is to stick with it and develop it, soften the d-line and make them pay.
Anyway, this game was not about the run/pass selection. I just wanted to point out the flaw in your logic.

and in the meantime go scoreless

It looked from the get-go that the Giants were focused on containing the outside.
Made me wonder why we kept tossing it out there instead of trying to bust it up the middle like last week.

We were throwing
because the Giants were selling out to stop the run. We were passing well. Giving up the quick scores on the Barber fumble and the kick off return was not the fault of passing too much.
+1
We didn’t give up on the run, they were still trying to hit a big run up until the point where they had no choice but to pass.
You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.
I'm not letting Garrett off the hook
I agree that the run game wasn’t working, and one of the few things I think the Giants did well. That should have opened up things in the passing game. I know Romo had almost 400 and I know Witten had over 100 but it always seemed to me that we were in 3rd and long. I give Romo credit for completing so many of those situations, but you have to admit they are low percentage plays. Where’s the creativity when the initial game plan is stopped? I can tell if we’ll win or lose after the first quarter because we are not good at adjusting. Defense played poorly, but I’m willing to give them another mulligan after playing well since game 2. Offense has too many weapons to be shut down like this.
I dont care about the run offense when the passing game is on like it was
this game came down to the defense crumbeling giving up monster plays like they love to do in big games. The special teams which were the whole focus of the offseason gave away 10 points in this game. theres the game right there

Air it out
Everytime I saw Dallas go for a running play, I cringed then rolled my eyes. The running game wasn’t accomplishing much of anything. Taking it to the air got better results. Romo had almost 400 yds, 3 TDs, and no INTs, compared to 45 rushing yards and a crucial fumble.
Folks misses..
Are becoming major momentum killers…
Also Punt coverage break down and defensive weaking ends in this,

Big plays
The giants couldnt feild a drive, all they had was some big play, i feel like dallas outplayed them 90% of the time but its the 10% that actually mattered.
Im so frickin sick of this defense all of a sudden sucking every december. Last year they looked awesome untill the end of the balt game and of coarse that carried over to philly.
When the offense does something good they give it right back.
Nick folk needs to be inactive. why not give beuhler a shot, whats the worst he can do miss, well thats all nick I suck now folk does
"Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk"
no heart
Cowboys for some reason cant get fired up to play big games. Cant blame Romo on this one. No turnovers with no running game, I think he did all he can do. When we need the defense to step up they come up small. I think if they could put it all together they could make a playoff run, but I have no faith in these guys to do it.
Not Enough Heart
This is a Wade Philips issue. The OC installs and runs the offense. the DC installs and runs the defense.
Getting the guys to step up in a game is the HC’s job on game day. IMO, Philips is over his head being both the HC and the DC. He needs to stick to DC and let someone else run the team.
We got ripped by a Giant buzzsaw today. It didn’t need to happen. We lost the game at the end of the half, really. We couldn’t come up with that one stop on their first scoring drive. After the fumble (hey, it happens…just wish it would have happened to them, ya know?), the D didn’t step up again. At that point, Big Blue was jacked up and fully awake again. Had we stopped that first TD, the second half would have ended much differently.
I don’t care about his record, Wade needs to go. I am absolutely not ready for Garrett to step into that role, either. I don’t know if he’s ready.
Inability to step up to the plate is on the HC.

Philips is quite the capable DC
I would have no problem with him as our DC. I actually was hoping that was what JJ offered Wade during the last off season.
We need a HC that can almost force the guys to step it up. Think about how the Steelers played under Cowher. In the biggest games, Jimmah was able to get the Cowboys to step up and win.
We don’t have anyone doing that right now.

I think the heart was there
Otherwise, they wouldn’t have rallied to keep making comebacks. Coaching mistakes are what hurt.
As soon as Dallas took that 10-0 lead, I became cautiously optimistic, and had a flashback to the night of January 13, 2008. Just before the half, Dallas had a 14-7 lead, and Eli led the Giants down the field with less than a minute on the clock, and tied it up. You know the rest of the story.
Not enough heart....
I don’t put this on the players. They left it out on the field.
You can’t scheme for everything. You can’t prevent every miscue.
What you need was for the HC to pull the troops together and inspire them to play even bigger than they did.

Were there mistakes by players? Sure. Every game has them. Every team has them every game.
When the other team is getting the momentum going their way, who’s job is it to rally the players? If not the coach, what’s the point of having a coach at all? You can always hire a mouthpiece to face the media. Romo can call the offense. Brooking can call the D. What else do you need a HC for if not for inspiring the team?

and in both of those games, we lost. Green Bay was on their last legs and so were the Giants. We gave new life to both of those teams, and the worst part is that we are now competing against both teams for a wild card spot.
What's that going to mean when...
we play another desperate team? San D looking to keep in the race for a bye? New Orleans showing weakness needing to keep Home Field Advantage? Phillie in the last game of the season?
Washington is the only non-desperate team out there and they just want to keep us out of the playoffs for no reason other than we are the Cowboys.
We need to be able to take that next step and up the intensity over and above our competitors.

San Diego, if they lose
won’t be out of the playoff race. Neither will New Orleans. Both the Giants and Packers would have essentially found themselves in a big hole. It may be one game, but it is a 2 game swing between a victory and a loss.
Would you rather...
…be San Diego going to Cincinnati’s outdoor stadium? In January?
…be New Orleans and face Minnesota home or away?

0-4 to close the season isn't out of the question.
I’ve been positive this season. I’m trying to believe this team that it’s gonna be a different December, but the Cowboys did nothing to make me feel like they’re going to get rid of this awful streak. The Cowboys have a monster of a schedule left. Tonight gave me no confidence this team has the capabilities to beat San Diego, let alone New Orleans.
What a shame, because Tony Romo seems to really want to succeed late in the season.
2009 Dallas Cowboys: 10-6

Yeah, and they will have a chance to draft someone high...

we will beat San Diego
We will play NO tough, and may or may not win. But we will beat the skins and the Eagles. We will finish 11-3. Everything will be okay. The defense got lax and this is a nice wakeup call. Romo and Roy are connecting, Austin is still producing, the running game won’t have many games like that and the defense won’t give up huge chunks like that.
Seriously. We will be fine. This game sucks mainly because I hate the giants. But it will mean nothing in about a month.

4. Holding call on the OLine, end of the first half
By letting our down and out kicker attempt a kick he’s never made, even when healthy and nearly automatic, the odds are so stacked against success. Failure leads to much more than no points. It can also lead to an even worse head case.

because of a lack of confidence… and it seems this is the right move now as well.
I don't think he needs to be cut...
yet. Let’s sit him and see what we have in Buehler. That way, we know that either Buehler can handle himself and we don’t need to look at a possible backup kicker or that Buehler is pretty much a kick off guy and we need to make sure our bases are covered by the draft.
Give Folk the benefit of the doubt and let’s see what happens in the off season.

The only bright spot was Romo – great zip on the ball, great accuracy. Would have loved to have that third down to choice back but our Oline got whipped in the running game today and it seems like too many players on this team don’t understand the intensity it takes to win late in the season.

Dare I say the words?
Just like Terry Bradshaw said- 55 pass plays?
Something happens when you pass alot, and don’t establish the run, even when you have good success with your passes. it’s called confidence. I don’t have confidence in a pass heavy offense that sweeps the running game under the Carpet. Why would I say that? easy- i don’t believe Garrett knows how to evaluate RB’s correctly, on top of using them in the correct situations, and he doesn’t know the backs he has.
I consider establishing the run based on what I saw at the end of the year last year, and alot of people may start seeing it, or maybe they’ll come and post and try to belittle the point of the topic, but here are the words Dare I say?
No Tashard, No solid ground game that is effective, and thus no victory.

i had seen
enough run plays in this one by the 2 min warning in the 2nd quarter. blocking was simply awful, felix? awful, marion? awful. O-Line? double Awful on the ground. i agree TC needs more touches, but passing was the best option tonight, romo was on, we just missed way too many opp. to win, and the defense was hard to watch.

I think steering away from something that was not only not working, but failing miserably, was a good decision by Garrett. Especially with how well Tony was throwing the ball. The purpose of play calling is to move the ball down the field and score and I think if you manage to accomplish that then the play calling isn’t the problem.

how can you establish the run when you average 2 yds a carry
we would have been shut out if tried to run it as much as you think we should. Face it, our OL can’t run block when they need to, if a team wants to shut down our run they can, Giants proved it.

How is this Garrett's fault!?
He calls a run play and Gurode and Davis act like turnstiles as defenders run through them and the RB is confronted by a fist full of defenders before he’s even reached the line of scrimmage. The Cowboys Oline is woefully inconsistent and they have been for years.
Throughout the year a lot of people have endlessly repeated "run the ball more Garrett". Now today the game threads were filled with people repeating "why are we still running the football Garrett?", when we were only 4 points behind. Now the game’s over people are going to look at the 55 pass plays and say "you should have run the ball more Garrett". It’s the same knee-jerk reactions every week of making Garrett the scapegoat for any part of the offense that is poor and giving him no credit for any part of the offense that plays well.
If our Oline man can’t even block the guy in front of them it doesn’t matter how many run plays are called.

Luke
I was one that thought the running game wasn’t always being given the chance to do well. So today Garrett ran them inside, Felix outside , screens and the Giants just blanketed the run game. I’m glad he let Tony throw. The passing game will win games, but with the beating Tony takes when he drops back we have to run some to take the pressure off him. We didn’t do that today.
Oldboysfan,
I think there’s been occasions this year where Garrett could have run the ball more at times but I don’t think it’s anywhere near the catastrophe that some other people like to make out. By far most of the times the offense has struggled this year it’s has been poor execution by players. And at the top of that list (like the last several years) is the Offensive Line.
And I agree with you that we do need to try to remain somewhat balanced as this Oline can’t consistently protect Romo either.
How is it Garrett's fault?
That’s too easy Luke.
If the run isn’t having success, does that mean you abandon it? How about using the right running back?
How much you want to bet that if you sit Barber, and play Choice a majority of the game, that Barber will re-dedicate himself to get that edge that he has somehow lost?
How about lining Felix up as a reciever, if only as a decoy?
How about making it a priority to get the ball on a screen to Felix or Tashard?
Respectfully, Luke, but it seems no one is willing to accept that without Tashard, our run offense isn’t what it’s supposed to be. When you see Tashard out there, and he proves his mettle again against the good defenses, then, and only then, will you see the pass offense have meaning and effectiveness. Without the run, alot of games will be losses. The Giants seem to be a team that always prove that to us, and our coaches do nothing to react and adjust. There is no one else to question but Garrett. He bears this responsibility.

DallasPalace,
I’m a fan of Tashard Choice as well. I think he’s a real good back and I wouldn’t complain if they decided to give him the start. But I still don’t think it would have made any difference to our poor run blocking.
The offensive line was turning sideways after the snap and letting defenders rush by them. I think Emmitt Smith would have got stuffed running behind this group today. The Giants out mauled us up front and our backs (whether Barber, Jones or Choice) had nowhere to go.
You mentioned screens, I saw them try that, and they got tackled for losses because, again, nobody could hold their block.
Personally I can’t see how that’s solely the fault of the offensive coordinator. When it comes to offensive struggles for this team all roads lead to the Oline.
Also, Garrett is not the Head Coach or the Owner. Barber is getting paid like a big-time starter. Perhaps it’s not Garrett’s decision who starts.
sorry guy im a run guy myself.....
Trust me i smash JG plenty of times about not runin……but the Gmwn str8 out stop our run game. MB had 14 rushes, I seen felix work almost a whole quater in…..
Felix was drop plenty of times for minus gains that kinna burn me. But if not there it not their
I agree, but I just want to say that
How do we as fans know definitely that something doesn’t work if the offensive coordinator doesn’t try it? I agree that the offensive line played suspect in the second half, but the first half seemed like there were opportunities in the run game. The fact That MB3 and felix didn’t have success doesn’t mean Tashard would have been inneffective, and we are talking about just getting some success, not negative plays. We just don’t know without Tashard getting an opportunity. One thing for certain- We won’t go very far with the kind of running game we are seeing from the O-line, Felix, and MB3. it’s really a poor situation.
Even the people who want to post that the RB’s have nothing to do with it, and that the offensive line is the culprit, cannott deny that Garrett is responsible.
Why was there no attempt to draft any OL early the last few years?
Why no attempts in FA?
Why no trades?
I can’t believe he would not try to at least adress some fresh blood there. Please don’t write that he has no say so in the draft. If he would state his need to Jerry, jerry definitely would go out and make something happen. Nothing has happened with the O-line-nothing, period. Who’s to blame for that?

C’mon man, your Garrett attacks are seriously stretching believability (to put it politely). Now your blaming him for the Draft and Free Agency!? Is there any mistake this team has made (either on field or off it) that you don’t attribute to our offensive coordinator? Garrett’s not the Head Coach, not the Owner, not the General Manager, not the head of Scouting. He’s just the offensive coordinator.
And you’re simply wrong, the Cowboys organization has made lots of moves over the last few years involving the Oline. The problem is the results have been less than what was needed.

Did you hear Terry Bradshaw post game?
55 pass play calls? Even with success passing, it doesn’t always add up to victories, and it never does against the Giants sir. Your forgetting the cardinal rule of beating the Giants- establish the run. You DON’T have to have that much success passing.
Just because I believe barber is miscast as a starter, and Felix not out there at the same time as Tashard alot, as well as Tashard getting a heavy load, doesn’t mean I’m “stretching”, because all we really needed was some effective, hardcore running to quell whatever the Giants were trying to do, as well as limit they’re opportunities.
It seems like all it takes is an arm punch to cause Barber to fumble anymore. He doesn’t have even good speed anymore. Maybe the bench will do him good. Felix looks slow, and off. Garrett using him this way is what I fear- he may become discouraged. Tashard not being used to his strength (as a workhorse back) is all it may take to jumpstart the offense. Are you saying that Garrett has no decisionmaking about the Runningbacks? Who is above Garrett in running the offense then, Wade? Ha! Garrett has no real head coach he has to answer to. THAT is the problem.
Maybe that will make you think about my scrutiny of Garrett differently, because I have always said that this offense needs to help this defense ALOT more than what I’ve seen happen for the last 3 years. Even though I feel the defense had a bad game at the end of the game, it still doesn’t excuse squandered chances to score at the beginning of the game. Your defense is gonna have a collapse every now and then.
I’m sorry, but I stick to questioning these coaches, specifically Garrett. He didn’t have bad execution in his pass playcalls, but 55 pass plays? No Tashard Choice? I mean, come on. I would have thought that some people were watching what Tashard did last year at the end of the year. Have we so quickly forgotten?

And again...
If you can’t run the ball, why are you going to ram your head against a wall?
And Choice was so effective in his 2 rushing plays that averaged 1.5 yards that you’re certainly drawing the conlcusion that he would have managed something out of nothing.
Yup, evidence is on your side.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
Oh, I see Chandus..
Flip flopping back and forth between Barber and Jones really accomplished alot in that game. Maybe the offensive line played awful, but that further brings out the question of how inept this offense becomes in the december games. I hope they bounce back and get on track, but no effective running game, along with no committment from Garrett to establish it, leaves me skeptical. Sorry that you think I’m wrong with my opinion, but I didn’t arrive at it overnight, and all Garrett does is continue to prove it.
I think it was last week, in another fanpost, Terry wrote “we can beat the Giants with Romo dropping back to pass the majority of the time”. I just shook my head, and said “That’s crazy!”. do you want to know why? because with the good defenses, you HAVE to make them respect your running game. Our passing game itself will not win big games (apparantly even if it does well).
respectfully, Chandus, But I don’t need evidence. Evidence is right there in the outcome of games like this. If your not going to committ yourself to establishing the thing that is going to win the game for you, your not going to win it. The decision to be this way is the coach’s, and I’m not talking about Wade.
I’m saying it’s my opinion that if Tashard is put in there, and the offense sticks with it, there will be an effective running game. Did that swing of playing those better defenses last year, and Tashard having success running against them
not happen? yes it did. Just because in this game, he got two measely touches (out of the Wildcat nonetheless) and that added up to a 1.5 yard average doesn’t disput the point. Running backs like Tashard don’t come in, have a 50 yard run, then sit down for the rest of the game, except when they play for the Dallas Cowboys, and Jason Garrett (just like what happened in the Raiders game).
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
If the defense and ST would have showed up
we would have won that game, losing had nothing to do with our lack of a running game. It didn’t help we couldn’t run the ball, and if you think playing Choice most of the time is suddenly going to make our OL block better, you’re simply delusional, not going to happen.
In Romo we Trust
Did I hear Terry Bradshaw?
No, I prefer to form my own opinions based on what I saw when I watched the game. Personally I find 95% of the media (on sports, politics or whatever) to be a complete waste of time at best. They’re in it for reasons other than truth or accuracy.
DallasPalace you don’t even seem to be reading my responses to your posts before you’re responding back. Up above I clearly said I didn’t disagree with you about Barber and Choice I just said it wouldn’t have mattered today because our Oline did not block well at all. And look, Barber had a bad game but let’s not make out he’s dog meat ok. He’s a solid player having a rough patch.
When I said that you were stretching believability I was referring to your comment that it is Garrett’s fault "there no attempt to draft any OL early the last few years?". Which I believe is an incorrect statement (they’ve drafted 3 offensive lineman Marten 3rd, Free 4th, Brewster 3rd the last three years). You also said Garrett was to blame for "no attempts in Free Agency" and "no trades" involving the Oline. Again I believe this is incorrect. In the last three years Dallas signed FA Bigg Davis to a huge contract, extended starters Marc Colombo and Flozell Adams, put a Second Round Tender on Cory Procter and traded a 5th Round pick to Denver for Holland. Dallas has tried a number of different things to improve the Oline the problem is the results have been underwhelming.
Anyway, how you believe all those problems could be the offensive coordinator’s fault is beyond me. What about the Head Coach, the Owner and General Manager, the Head of Scouting? Any of these guys make any decisions at all or does Jason Garrett secretly run the entire organization?
Now you suggest that Garrett has no real head coach to answer too and that this is somehow his fault as well. Honestly, to me, your criticisms of Garrett aren’t making a lot of sense.
You also say the Offense has needed to help out the Defense more the last three years and again I completely disagree. This offense (the major part of which is Romo as he can turn missed blocks by our Oline into positive plays) has been the main reason we’ve had winning records the last three years and they’ve consistently bailed out the defense. It’s the defense that has needed to lift it’s game to match the offense and this year they started to show that they might. Today was a setback for them but there’s plenty of time for them to recover.
So you write a lengthy post regarding the run game...
…and yet you don’t mention the offensive line once.
I think you’re confused about what creates a healthy run game.
Gains of 10+ yards are because of backs. But the first 0-10 yards is the offensive line’s job. They didn’t do theirs today. That makes it impossible to create “effective, hard core running.”
Larry Allen benched 700 pounds. That is Leonard Davis times two.
Your right Tim
But how can i adress the offensive line’s confusion and ineffectiveness when the first mistake is the coaches use Barber alot (mistake) and put Felix in to run, not line up as a wr (mistake), and not use Tashard but for the stupid Wildcat?
I actually thought the offensive line did ok in the first half. unfortunately, no Tashard, and his running style, and there wasn’t any effective ground game. In the 2nd half is where the offensive line failed. That is understandable, considering the giants zeal to win, along with no effective running in the first half. I question Garrett’s decisionmaking in regards to the running backs.
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
Dallas owned TOP for 38 minutes the offense had the ball, the defense should not have been gassed or
left out in the cold when your offense is on the field for more than half the game. Dallas owned the ball for over half the game and they passed it 55 times, usually that does not happen; the gints were not going to concede the run dallas work the field with short to medium passes.
Ignore the Mainstream Media, EMBRACE THE HATE!!!!
That's right Cowboy78
Last time we played the Giants, we abandoned the running game when we needed to use it more, and the Giants gambled that we would pass and make a mistake (we did)
This time, They gambled that if they stopped our run, it would force us to pass, and even though it would be close, they would capitalize and at least not loose to our running game .
Do you want to know why that works for them in beating us?
simple- passing alot, by itself, even with success, will not bring victory for this offense. Garrett is wrong, and we are not the Saints pass offense.
It’s too one dimensional, and your’e not hurting the defense (at least the Giants defense) the way you need to. That’s the reason why the run has to be a priority over the pass (to help the passing game).
Excuse me for saying this, but isn’t that what these defensive coordinators have said about Garrett in the other big games we lost? It is in the Giants interest that we continue to run the offense the way we have, because they believe they can overcome it. And they do. We don’t vary our offensive gameplan at all. Are you surprised and shocked by this kind of opinion and analysis?

Right
Because you are the one that has repeatedly said that you would be comfortable if Dallas would pass a majority of the time, and that we can win a game like that (just like we obviously did Terry).
maybe a realistic asessment of the offense makes no sense to you.
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
gotta root for philly now which sucks
since we have control over what happens with them and tie breakers. If they can beat the chargers and washington i still think the division comes down to the last game

ugh...I THINK I would rather they lose to the Giants..or tie..I guess it
comes down to who has the harder schedule between the Giants and Eagles…one thing is for certain..next week should be all “ALL IN” game for us!!
no, we have to hope the Giants beat philly
obviously, we have to take care of our own business, but I would rather the Giants beat philly to keep them both a game back of us.

is anybody else blown away by the pay of Mike Jenkins? he just continues to make plays. IMO he’s the best corner we have. He’s really blown me away thse last 6 or 7 games.
also scandrick is the new jaque reeves
Texas Stadium has a hole in the roof so God can watch his favorite team play football.
Scandrick having a terrible season
He can’t do anything right this year. He’s weak, can’t tackle, and his instincts have been pretty much off.

Scandrick is in tough situations but still hes gotta play better. Not ready to call him Jac. Reeves

I couldn’t be happier with how much he’s improved since last season. Dude is talented.

Tired of Half-Hearted Defensive Efforts
And an offensive line not being able to hold blocks. We have to win 2 of the last games this season to get into the playoffs, and with that effort I’m not sure we’ll get there.

the no call on pass interference to roy williams that ended a drive and the obvious hold on jacobs long td run.

Good game fellas.
I hope no one blames Romo..he’s not to blame, not at all he shredded the Giants to pieces.
Good luck the rest of the way.
I think we may meet again, more than likely in the Big House again too.

you guys got a tough road ahead...
REAL tough.
..but to be the best…right?
Could be like the Steelers…get a cupcake run..and lose 4 in a row.
I did not see a team that has a “december slump”.
I think the Giants just made more plays, is all.
Not one player on the Giants really stood out (except for Steve Smith…how he’s not at least there in the Pro Bowl…I dunno…maybe too many drops?)
"It ain't over till its over"---
Eli stood out
there were a couple drives where he made really solid plays.
And you have 3 quick wrs who we struggle to cover. Our defense looked helpless for the first time in months.
He did.
and to be honest, his stat line is a little misleading in more ways than one.
Lots of drops…and the one big play skewed the yards.
He made more than a few boneheaded throws….if he steps into at least one of those bombs, they could’ve been 6.
"It ain't over till its over"---
yea he did
in terms of mistakes, Eli definitely made more than Romo. But your team outplayed ours today.
Yep...
Football is a team game and it is so unfortunate how many people forget that…
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
Yeah, for all the things we're complaining about
now, the Giants missed several big plays that might have made it worse. Good game. Our D and O-line really got manhandled by a team that’s riddled with injuries.
You can do a lot of things in life. You can't stab a teammate with a pair of scissors. - Kevin Smith
Yea..
I see it here.
You’re all right…but Giants fans should complain too cuz Eli missed a lot.
The Giants O-Line, Diehl in particular, deserves credit for stoping the Cowboys rush for the most part.
Also, the Giatns D-Line finally showed up.
They’r actually not all that injured now, most everyone who’s not on IR is back.
It showed. Tuck was back (and pissed….Flozell is an asshole..but thanx for lighting a fire under the D-Line) and Cofield played like he wants to play for the Giants his next contract.
These guys can overwhelm any O-line when they come to play…and they did today.
Romo gets a lot of credit for being as quick and slippery as he is, and always was against the Giants.
If that was a less mobile QB, he’d be dead in the water.
"It ain't over till its over"---
yep
there have been many times this year i’ve thought that. Romo is under constant pressure.
Which brings up a bigger point – Dallas needs to find a way to beat teams deep and really make them pay.
yup.
For as good as Miles Austin and Witten (and yea…Roy Williams at times…)
..to me, they’re all possesion types.
Austin can be a big play guy, but many of his big plays are broken/missed tackles (whichever way you wanna put it…the tackle should be made by an NFL defender).
They don’t miss his mouth….but they miss a TO type playmaker.
"It ain't over till its over"---
Yeah
Austin’s quick off the line, and quick after the catch, but he’s not consistently getting over the top of DB’s. We miss that dimension.
You can do a lot of things in life. You can't stab a teammate with a pair of scissors. - Kevin Smith
Giants fans have known he can be a dominant return man
it was more on the blocking this whole year that he hasn’t done anything (also, injuries and being forced to play offense for some reason).
He’s a good returner.
"It ain't over till its over"---
Romo certainly is not in a December slump
Yet, he’ll still probably get all the blame for this loss.
2009 Dallas Cowboys: 10-6
2009 New York Jets: not 11-5 :(
2009-2010 Dallas Mavericks: 57-25
and undeservedly so.
To be honest…I don’t think anyone from the Cowboys deserves ‘blame’ so to speak.
The Giants made plays. That is all
No refs bad calls (they were there for both sides, believe me), missed open passes by the QB (ditto) .
For sure, if the Giants lost there were plenty to be blamed…dropped passes and bonehead throws off back foot by Eli (why he decides to do this about once every 5 games…I dunno)
They just made more plays on offense and defense.
"It ain't over till its over"---

Oh, I see, if your team is defeated, there's people to be blamed...
If your team wins, it’s because your team executed better…
The logic is there for us to see.
Coverage mistakes? Are mistakes.
Missed tackles? Mistakes.
Accuracy? Mistake.
Missed blitz pickups? Mistake.
Missed run blocking assignments? Mistake.
Missed FGs? Mistake.
There’s a lot of blame to be distributed for the Cowboys, they didn’t wanted the game as much as the Giants did and it showed… That the Cowboys didn’t wanted to win the game as badly is something that’s beyond me…
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
yet...
aside from the missed FG (surprisingly for Tynes…), the Giants made pretty much all of the mistakes the Cowboys made.
There’s plenty of people to be blamed on the giants for why the score wasn’t more for them.
If Eli steps into throws, if Steve Smith makes a catch….
If they cover Witten, or at least do something against him.
3rd and 14? Let that up?
Plenty of blame for both teams, probably equal foot shooting on both sides.
What stood out? Executing and big plays.
"It ain't over till its over"---
You guys killed us....
Perhaps this can turn the season around. Our defense was totally overmatched by you guys this game. You guys deserved to win.

to be honest, given your schedule I see the Eagles doing it.
I’ve said all along, even during the Giants slump that all 3 of the good East teams will make the playoffs.
What we all do from there is anyone’s guess.
Given what I’ve seen from the Saints…..no one’s running away with the NFC (damn are they lucky….)
"It ain't over till its over"---
our big problem
is we don’t have the tiebraker with GB. Thats a major concern.
Im pretty sure this was the first game Romo had an awesome game
and we lost when we didn’t lose the turnover ratio. The defense, ST and running game was just horrible.
This is a great game to prove qbs don’t win or lose games, it’s a team game
In Romo we Trust
yeah wish he woulda hit Roy with a few minutes left
He picked a bad time to have a bad throw. that would have given them a shot to tie had they got the stop on the next possession. But it sure wasnt Tonys fault, Defense and special teams decided to play bad this time

on hat note
WHY did barber not go past the first down marker on that 4th down? that was so stupid. The qb relies on the rb to know where he is. Barber had a pretty bad second half.
I know
That’s just crazy. Then he turns around and just kind of hesitates for a minute and a half before he remembers to run. Dumb….

gotta say...
Ross was right in his back pocket on that one.
Barber goes any farther, Ross may be in position for an INT.
Maybe Barber stops and goes deep, but there seemed to be too much pressure to hold on any longer.

it doesn' matter what the defense is doing
you need to get beyond the line of scrimmage. Romo trusts him to be behind the line of scrimmage, or at least closer to it.
yea
all the normal statistics got shot to he** this game.
Romo played so well, and aside from our wrs/witten, there weren’t a lot of bright spots. Spencer, Jenkins, Ratliff, Brooking played ok.
Our inability to handle the giants wrs is a major problem.
true, big plays that were given up are what the chargers thrive on too

How in the hell do we match up better with San Diego better?
Tall, strong WR’s with great hands and good body control? I’m just praying that Newman doesn’t get torched for a pair by Vincent Jackson next week!
I guarantee you Gates has at least two BIG 3rd down conversion going against Carpenter and the Nickel….
San Diego is a nightmare match-up for us.
Well
we’ve matched up better with those wrs than the small fast ones.
I really don't think so....
Typically it’s the big tough guys who give us fits…. The small speedsters bother every team, not just us.
Newman has been destroyed by the big wideouts for most of his career… His speed can only get him so far, and he can’t get up with the big guys.

thats ridiculous
first of all, he has no idea whose at fault for that. Romo threw a back shoulder pass and Choice was looking for a deep ball. Its very tough to say whose at fault for that.
Dungy can have fun looking at the 2 passes out of 40 romo missed.
actually i agree with dungy on the importance of that pass
It was a 3rd down..if tony had hit choice going upfield we could have scored there…that was a big momentum change IMO

I think theres also a decent chance Choice was supposed to run his route a little wider than Romo expected.
My thought as well...
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
it was definitely important
but you could point out 10-15 pinpoint precise passes romo made that we wouldn’t have been in the game had he not made them.
THe bottom line is the offense shouldn’t have to play perfect football to beat the giants.
In 2007, thats what happened – the offense played near perfect football both regular season games. In the playoffs we had about 3-5 miscues offensively and lost because of that.
But the bigger problem is our defense continues to struggle to shut them down.
when your run game is actually short passes
you pretty much need to be perfect

the fact that Choice and Romo do not have so much experience playing together on passing downs might have something to do with the miscommunication…

Choice did the right thing
it looked like a more forced pass than one that needed to be leading the RB into the endzone. Again, the screen was not the first option on that play, when it really should have. Tashard was trying to push it upfield.
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
That was my thought
I think both players had to read the play the same for it to work out and they didn’t. I thought Choice turned it upfield because he saw that Osi had the angle on the short throw. If Choice had actually turned to catch the ball Romo threw, he gets tackled immediately.
I don't think Dungy is a hater. He's just wrong is all

Until Garrett realizes
The value of the all purpose back (Choice) versus the speed back (Felix) or the power back (MB3), then this same waltz is destined to be danced by this offense again. And yes, I believe the offense lost the game. The defense may have a bad juncture at the end, but this offense continues to help the other team in winning by not establishing a solid ground game. here is what the Giiants defense sees..
Felix Jones in the backfield- go after him, the ball is going there (and it does- thanks for making it easy Garrett) No deception whatsoever.
MB3- It’s a run up the middle (it doesn’t matter though, we can get to him- he’s lost whatever speed he had over the last 2 years.)
Tashard Choice – He’s good, but why should we worry about him? We can stop him when they run that razorback, because we’ll go after him. they won’t use him for anything else, so why worry?
Jason Garrett does have a problem establishing the run, whether people want to admit it or not. His decisionmaking and playcalling about the issue has always been marginal at best. Why can’t he see that if he solves it by using Tashard, that it will jumpstart the offense? Barber has been unimpressive this year, and felix is looking more and more like another speed back. Both have been called by me as situational backs, and I stand by that asessment. If Tashard get’s a chance to run the ball for this offense, it will become effective, period.
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
hes becoming Tex with slightly more legitimate points
this Choice over Felix and MBIII thing has gotten old – few rbs would’ve done well today with this line. They didn’t block anything.
Ahhh, but there is
wisdom to trying to establish a running game with Tashard. You may not see it yet, but I will remind you of what our offense does when it happens, don’t worry. I guess you didn’t watch him run the ball at the end of the year last year at all, right Foyesboys?
By the way, I’m not becoming anything, since I have really been saying these same things about the offense all along, and I’ve rarely read anything by Tex.
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
Dallas's problem establishing the run in this game was due to the OLine.
They were not executing at all. What mystical play call or personal package is going to compensate for flat out crap blocking up front? Answer; None.
Its more that your harping on the same issue
I know that Tashard ran well at the end of last year. But just…watch these games….where are the holes? There are none.
We ran well at the end of last year and first two games of this year. Regardless of rb. Aside from that, we really haven’t ran well the last 2 years.
This is true
I’m not becoming anything, since I have really been saying these same things about the offense all along

I cant see blaming the run for this L
I totally agree they need to run better and establishing the run would do allot of great things. that said they owned the time of possesion and had everything in their favor untill the defense decided to give up huge gains. That play to jacobs is such a joke. the offense just marched down the field and you give it right back on one play! When they did attempt to run it went nowhere. Garretts not the one blocking.

The problem with that thinking Spree is
Your becoming one dimensional, and not gaining the respect of the defense with effective runs. There were alot of drives that were stalled by too many passes, even in the first qtr., and also Barber’s ineffectiveness is a hindrance to the offense. Even alot of 2 or 3 yard gains would have been the BIGGEST difference in a game like this, over the negative gains and stops in the backfield. Tashard would have made a difference in this game, trust me.
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
To say that with MBIII its a run up the middle is flat out wrong
I do agree that choice should be used more, but what ifference does it make when all your rbs are behing hit by 2 guys at the LOS?
we could't establish the run with Jim Brown in his prime
our OL just flat out sucks at run blocking, it’s sad some fans are too blind to see that.
In Romo we Trust
I'm with you on the Oline Terry and I've been saying it for years.
Most people like to scapegoat a skill position player (like QB) or an even easier target (like a Coach or Coordinator) but throughout most of our important losses the last few years poor Oline play is more prevalent than anything else.
It doesn’t matter what run play you call or RB you use when your guys let multiple defenders into the backfield.
Can I get an amen!?
The line is the problem. It has been the problem, it will continue to be the problem.
agree on the OLine...
Flozell’s IQ level amazes me
He has reach an all out low
WTF was he thinking with that end of the half crap? He could have been tossed from the game really easy for that.
You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.
Disagree
Sometimes the defense just dictates what you can do. The G-Men committed to stopping the run after they got gashed in the first game against us, and they did a good job of stopping it. That commitment to stopping the run opened up the pass, and we lit them up for 379 yards. We just gave up a bunch of big plays, and that was the difference. I don’t even know why anyone is talking about the offense after they racked up 424 yards.
It's a shame the Cowboys can't show up as a team for a big game.
Romo was the only one that played well. This was not his fault.
No, Roy sucks! We have to bench him! It's obviously all his fault!
/sarcasm, and hopefully the whole RW sucks “controversy”.

Silver lining, I suppose. Austin and Witten were great as well. Damn shame we couldn’t run the ball, play D(everybody not named Ratliff, Ware, or Jenkins pretty much sucked), make FGs, cover punts, etc.

Weird that just weeks ago, the passing game was the weakness and the D/ST was the strength, and it flipped in this game.

"Don't fake the funk on a nasty dunk"
I was afraid some of the problems on D would come back to bite them. But
I really thought they’d be exposed by New Orleans, not the Giants.
I was worried about this one
The Giants can put points on the board. They did agaisnt SD and ATL too.
I was a little surprised how easily they got pressure on Romo.
STs were by far the biggest disappointment though
I was worried about this like I always am about division games, but I honestly didn't
in a million years think they’d shred the D. I’m still in shock.
Eli ALWAYS shreds this D
The guy really plays well against us.
Like Romo with the Giants.
So do we go for the Viks or Cards?
The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!
Running game
how many times was first contact behind the line of scrimmage?
I don't know, but
the lack of some effective gains is what really hurt. Effective gains on the ground would have made a huge difference. Even 3-6 yard gains.
"Amongst the enemy's Lair, there will always be a DallasPalace!"
I dont think blasting anyone will do anything.
We played well. We had a chance to win. They simply made the big plays and got a few breaks. Its football and it happens.
I wiil tell you if we continue to play like this we will win our share. Romo looked great. Poise and precision. I think the adrenalin surge of seeing RW wide open might have gotten him but he was sharp.
Not pleased with our run blocking but they made up for with our pass blocking. Giants played like a team on the edge but more importantly got the breaks.
Im very disappo9inted but our play tells me this isnt going to be like last year. We need to win 2 of the next 4. We can and will do it and will be better for it.
KICK ASS every day!!!
viks!
if they win ill win a $860 doller bet on a parlay, plus it keeps the cards behind us in division standings

I got lucky, I had the saints just winning the game and they were increadabily lucky to get that win. Also had the dolphins winning and that was a mistake. I thought I had picked the pats. Very lucky

what was up with the slot coverage
I noticed on a few of ny’s big pass plays to the slot reciver there was no cb covering. Its like they had a zone coverage on the giants obvious #1 option. It seemed bizzare to me. Plus with Orlando struggeling Newman should be put back in the slot. He did it great before Scandrick was here.

newman would not be the solution to anything......he sucks.
Miles, Romo and Witten get a good grade……other than that, they can kiss my a$$….
This game and the Packer game..
are pretty good indicators of how the Cowboys would fare in the playoffs. They just can’t beat teams with good defenses.
no fire and no balls....same ol story. Have no idea how to solve that.
I always thought it was about the coach but Parcells couldnt motivate these pricks either….. have no idea what to do.
what about the eagles game?
And we jsut wrecked a “good defense” in the Giants. Which they are not.

Is Gurode still good?
I feel like our interior OL are getting mauled.
Oline
I think the problem with Gurode, Davis and Flow is not that they’re bad it’s just that they’re extremely erratic and it can change week to week or even play to play. A few weeks ago they got Romo absolutely slaughtered in Green Bay with really poor play and this week the gave the Rb’s absolutely no chance.
of course
one could say “extremely erratic” is a form of bad.

Crosby was highly touted coming out of college. That poor decision has cost us.

prolly not just like they wont change the rb’s or wr’s when its obvious whos performing better. Folk is a joke right now and his look said it all. He missed that thing bad, thats in his head. he didnt miss straight on.

Way to solve it? HA! Get a new O-line, that's how
Every year, the Offensive Line gets SCHOOLED by the Giants and Eagles. It’s BS. Romo had a good game, EVEN Roy Williams had a good game. Sheesh!
The defense looked like Junior Varsity High School. Terrible.
This team will not make the playoffs. AGAIN…
Oh and if they do get the Wild Card, they will lose…. AGAIN
I will bet my home on it
I rarely agree with your posts
But I agree – if there is one unit which should take the majority fo the blame with our struggles against good teams…its the O-line.
Untill we find legititmate replacements (and Ive said this before), we will struggle to win games against tough Ds.
I mean honestly we needed an Aplus effort from romo to be in this one.
Although if the defense gets crushed this month, i may think differnetly.
You don't have too agree

My #1 issue with this team..
This post is directed at you foyesboys
This team is not consistent. Period. That is the problem and has been, period.
look at the D today
they were generally pretty good – but then would fail miserably. I don’t know how you fix that. They are a decent defense, but crazily vulnerable.
by I_miss_Switzer on Dec 6, 2009 7:44 PM CST up reply actions
i buy that
With the ol, it seems like every guy makes a mistake or two a game. A lot of times these mistakes end drives.
Our qb occasonally misses open wrs, but he does a much better job at most in hitting them.
Defensively….I’m not sure consistency is the problem. The Giants beat us this week the same way they did week 2. They pretty soundly beat us I thought.
Special teams were the biggest problem, but if that is the 1 game this year special teams hurts us, I would say that is good.
But seriously
you’ve got to realize that every team struggles with this. The Giants, Eagles, Pats, Every team aside from the Saints, Colts and VIkings is struggling with consistency.
I made a point during the game thread
That the Giants D must have been tiring early considering Dallas’ lead in time of possession. Unfortunately, it seems to be a double-edged sword with the Cowboys — their O Line also begins to wear down the more they keep the ball.

Let's review for the record:
1) Abandon the run against a team you hung 250 on earlier in the year
2) Give up one special team play
3) Give up one long pass play
4) control the clock
5) move the ball (for the most part) at will
6) Lose
That about cover it?
Didn't really abandon the run
just gradually moved away from it due to the incompetence of our o-line
The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!
by aussie_cowboy on Dec 6, 2009 7:48 PM CST up reply actions
don't agree with 1
we didn’t abandon the run. We kept running throughout and got nowhere throughout. The passing game was our only hope. If anything, I though Garrett may’ve forced the run once or twice.
But on you other poiints…you forgot fumble the ball in your own territory and miss an easy fg.
And Eli had his way with our scondary.
Any deep shots
Did we throw the ball deep at all today – 30 yards or more?
Austin should be getting two bombs per game
You need to have the coverage to do so..
i saw the giants play their safeties back a lot…it takes away the Deep passes
still
when they are selling out on the run, I think it is worth it just to keep them honest

Newman is another of these inconsistent guys.
He’s a good player in coverage most games but he’s also a finger pointer and a poor tackler.

Newman is a perfect analogy for this team
He’ll have a shutdown game one week and make you wonder why you ever questioned him; then wet the bed the next week so badly that you begin to wonder how you ever thought he was capable of taking the team to the promised land.
what happened to him?
I remember reading the first two years about how he loved practice and was an incredibly hard worker, but now I agree, he always seems to be pointng the finger at someone else.
He is usually a very sound tackler too.

you're clearly wrong
the only way that happens is if we give them a lot of TDs with turnovers

Lifetime Cowboys Fan from the Swamps of Jersey
Worrisome.
We’ve got to play them again and they seem to be getting better each week. That OL has gone from a train wreck to somewhat serviceable.
Larry Allen benched 700 pounds. That is Leonard Davis times two.
Bummer. Romo had a good game, good enough to win I think. The D letdowns killed us along with the MBIII fumble. MBIII should
learn at some point that over the top celebrations should be postponed unit after you actually win the game. You’re not Allan Ameche diving in to the end zone to win a championship ‘MARRION’ , in the 1st qtr of a regular season game. Enough already with the antics, and just go back to the friggin huddle. A three yard run in the first qtr hardly merits a display of any kind. December is it?
Family, Friends, Cowboys, Beer & BBQ. Life is good!
as far as celebrations go...the worst thing that EVER happened to this team was that 13-3 season
mark my words….that season got everyone believing that they were the SH!T and it got dogs like TNEW, Flozell and Barber undeserved contracts
Barber had like 27 tds in 2 years and TNew had allowed like...2 tds in 23 games.
And flozell was the backbone of an offensive line that was a main reason we went 13-3.
I didn’t like the flozell signing but was it worth sacrificing multiple years and your qbs help trying to find a better one?
Barber maybe should get 3 less carries a game, but to say the signing was stupid is crazy.
Newman’s play has fallen off, but hes still a good #1 cb. He absolutely deserved the money at the time. If we didn’t give it to him, someone else would.
Right on Flo
Wrong on MB3 and T-New
You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.
What are we getting out of this year's draft class
Beuhler has been good, but no touchbacks today. Victor Butler penalty.

there are two aspects of success
how much they contribute and when they contribute.
At this point of the year, a few of them should be playing significant and reliable roles. I would say only Buehler is, although I think Butler should see more snaps

about half the class has been hurt
gota give it time.
Buehler s a bigtime imrprovement. Victor Butler may’ve actuall saved a game or two with clutch sacks
Was watching the postgame shows and and they're trying to find a way to blame Romo for the game...lmao
NBC’s Dungy singled out Romo’s missed opportunity for a TD right before Folk’s missed field goal…seriously?
Fox’s Bradshaw said you can’t win “throwing the ball as much as the Cowboy’s did in that game…”…huh?
No one commented on how this Defense sucked. Why do they hate Romo so much?. Did Romo sleep with the wives of the network execs?
bradshaw was kinda right, unless he blamed it on garrett
the OL has to run block better – its very difficult to put up a ton of points when you don’t run the ball half-reasonably well
the rule states that you have to be outside the pocket and have the pass land AT OR NEAR THE LOS
that pass was easily 5 or more yards behind it. anyone with DVR will agree.
i can agree with you guys on the holding call on the Jacobs run. but there’s a little too much ref blaming, and not enough giving credit to us wanting it more today. IMHO.
that rule is so incredibly subjective
i’ve seen brees, and now warner tonight make the same “not quite to the LOS” throw TODAY and not get flagged.
it all comes down to whether or not the refs actually think you’re trying to make that throw

Romo didn't lose the game for Dallas. Dungy or anyone can nitpick any player's
game if they try hard enough, but it sucks to let the real culprits off in this game by trying to turn every mistake Romo made into something “crucial.”
True, Romo played great
though missing a wide open Roy W hurt. On the other hand, the butterfingered knucklehead probably wouldhave dropped the pass

that was very close to not being intentional grounding
it was a mistake, but most qbs get the benefit of the doubt on that call.
there was a receiver at the line of scrimmage
and it was relatively close to him.
Terry..i might be wrong on this
It doesn’t matter if the receiver was there or not…if the ball did not cross the line of scrimmage on a forward pass it is called Grounding…
If the ball is catchable
then it doesn’t have to pass the line of scrimmage.
The Knights season may have just ended, but the Cowboys year is just begining!
by aussie_cowboy on Dec 6, 2009 8:25 PM CST up reply actions
Exactly.
Like Bulldog said, it’s very subjective. Warner made a left handed pass right into the ground tonight behind the LOS. It wasn’t called and there wasn’t a receiver around. It’s just whether or not the refs think it was a legitimate “try”.
You can do a lot of things in life. You can't stab a teammate with a pair of scissors. - Kevin Smith
guys - instead of loating it out of bounds he drilled it into the ground
about 4 yards short of the line of scrimmage – it was the definition of intentional grounding
qbs do that ALL THE TIME
I saw eli once or twice throw short at wrs in the pocket because he saw a defender breaking on the pass. Itwas about 4 yards short. That by your logic is intentional grounding.
Not saying I don’t understand the call, but they almost ALWAYS seem to give teams the benefit of the doubt.
it matters
otherwise any poorly thrown screen could be be grounding
Actually dallas will be on CBS, so it is Phil Simms time.

Dungy is full of it, but I don't think what Bradshaw said is Romo hate. He's right that
not establishing any kind of run game is damaging.
I'm a GIants fan and I agree with you
Romo was fine the Cowboys could not run Romo took advantage of what was givin to him by the D to blame Romo is riduculous, he was not as good as his numbers but he along with Witten were the best offensive players and he outplayed Eli with no stupid turnovers. It came down to the Giants D-line and specail teams thats it Romo is fine anybody that’s really hard on him did not watch the game.
yep
Giants Dline and Sheridan’s blitzes outplayed our ol and protection
Yea Sheridan had a good game
as did Cofield for the first time this year and Canty was not great but was in the backfield a few times and got a push doing some yeomans work. Both guys played well for the first time all year and the rookie Sintim, though very raw, showed he could rush a bit and Kiwi was solid as a D-End the changes helped and motivated. Good game though I’m not rooting for you guys next week best of luck it’s only one loss though I’m sure the media will bring up that stupid December stuff.
C'mon guys
We have had recent success…the Raiders game? We’ll all be here next week celebrating a Charger win and wonder what happened against the Giants. If you are that sure that we absolutely can’t, you won’t watch the game and go fishing or something…

Did you not watch that Redskins game? They beat us, in all phases. We won at the end by a few plays. Yeah, we won, by luck of their kicker. They are getting better. I’ll bet you on that game
The Good The Bad The Ugly
Welcome to December folks. The Good: Romo, Whitten, Austin, R.Williams. Whitten is playing the best this year, Austin will be in the Pro Bowl, Williams is peaking at the right time and Romo did everything he could to win, absolutely played great. The Bad: Refs, Ware,Rat. Not making excuses but ref’s blew some calls. That so-call down play during kick off was a real game changing call. Ware, this nation turns it’s lonely eyes to you (Woo,woo, woo) Rat please step up and be the player that you are. The Ugly: Special Teams, Folk, J.G., Defense Coach Kangaoo and DeCamillis. NYG kick off return for TD= Game. Folk is choking bad we really need a good PK at this time of the season. J.G. and his pitiful game calling example 2nd and 3 Baber gets the ball for a 3 yard loss and stops the drive. GROW SOME BALLS WILL YA! (hope this doesn’t get me kicked out) This would have been perfect for a play action or a gutsy end-around plus where in the hell is F.Jones? The defense could not tackle a chihuahua today. Blame this on Phillips and the speacial teams on DeCamillis. It sickens me that we lost to the NYG twice this year and on both games DALLAS BEAT DALLAS! We have to win 3 out of 4. This team can do it. Phila have 2 tough games remaining @ NYG @ Dallas. Denver at home is no pushover. NYG has @ Wash @Minn home games against Phila, Caro. BTW I am so glad Saints won. When we meet hopefully they will be undefeated the the pressure will be on them. I don’t usually post only read(everyday) Sorry this is a long post.
It's OK
This board is unbalanced between the Nay Nay Nayers and the Yay Yay Yayers. So, yes, thank you friend for your positive attitude. I won’t give up, cause we have about 15 minutes left in this 4 qtr. game, and we’re still in it. In fact, we’re ahead. Just need to be better. These men are good players. They just didn’t get the job done today. They can do it. Will they. We’ll all be here to watch. Except for the koolaid drinkers.

Guy I'm not trying trying to be annoying but
you could say the first game Romo beat the Cowboys but today if Steve Smith holds on to a good pass in the Endzone and Eli does not float an awful pass in the third thats a 31-17 game before the Hixon punt return throw in the fact the officails for some reason did not assess that penality for the blaten cheap shot by Adams (He should of been thrown out of the game) at the end of the first half then you could argue the Giants fought the officails just as much. I’m Giant fan and still don’t belive in them but they were the better team today.
I for one don't blame the officiating...our Defense just wilted. Plain and simple.
The Giants made bigger plays…just that simple.
Flo is a mean SOB
Cost us 15 yards and it fired yall up a bit but that is Flo and I like that. He don’t take any crap. But just like it fired yall up it should have fired us up. this would have been a perfect Phillips half time speech-Be like Flo kisk ass but no flags hehe (can’t laugh at my own lines this loss hurts)

He's not a mean SOB
he’s a coward and a cheap artist. He hit Tuck when th play was over and Tuck’s back was turned and not looking and he tripped him in week two after getting beat. Thats not a man thats just a coward flat out, Flozell has no balls he would never pull that stuff when Tuck is looking at him man to man. There is no defense for Flozells action. I don’t wish for injuries but if he blew his knee out I would not feel bad.
mean SOB and cheapshot artist is purely a matter of perspective
but that idiot move was uncalled for. just a classless move by someone whose career is circling the drain.

I think a Giants fan posted about this
He said that the refs assessed the penalty during the actual play so if the Giants had accepted it then they would have just extended the half. That’s why they declined it.

Can we PLEASE get rid of them????!!!
Larry Allen benched 700 pounds. That is Leonard Davis times two.
What about Flozell's pre-halftime melee?
Troy made mention of this and I also feel like Flo’s mini-brawl with half the Giants team definitely fanned the flame in the Giants, and they came out after halftime looking for the kill.
I really don't see how something like that can help win a ball game.

I think that had an effect
Is it me it seems like the Cowboys are always doing something stupid like that? I can’t say the Giants came out fired up becasue of that but tosee a mild manner guy like Kiwiniuka in Flozells face showed some fire I was not sure the Giants had.
I really think that the Giants scoring two TD's at the end of the half had more to do with firing them up than the Flo thing.
You can do a lot of things in life. You can't stab a teammate with a pair of scissors. - Kevin Smith
Well I'm not saying it's the sole or most important reason they came out to play
But it only added to their momentum to have the whole team backing each other up like that.
Oh, I'm not saying it didn't maybe contribute
Or that he should have done it. I just think they had some other things that are what really fired them up.
You can do a lot of things in life. You can't stab a teammate with a pair of scissors. - Kevin Smith
Yea the two TD's were big too
along with the Flozell play. I think Dallas got confortable when the score was 10-0 and might have let up.
...
…and might have let up.
The Cowboys always do.

I must say that is the difference between the Giants & Eagles compared to the Cowboys. The talent is there they just don’t handle things well. judging by your comment at the texans blog about tailgating there
I feel confident saying you’re a Texans fan. It’s ok to have an inferiority complex, I don’t blame you. And with Schaub as your starting QB you have NO reason to talk, homeboy is totally feast or famine. Hell, they trusted their RB who’s lost 2 games at the 1 yard line throw a goal line pass today instead of him, even your coaches don’t have confidence in him.

this team never has smelled right, i let myself believe but todays game was a
big litmus test. They showed they still need a new coach and new safetys and probably a few other players on defense. The offense is passable, 24 points 38 min time of possession and 392 in the air are good enough to win. Giving up 7+ yards to a glorified Offensive lineman is not. Reminded me of baltimore last year, when they gave up those long runs.
Romo had a great game tonight
but there’s something to be said that every time i see Warner or Brees see an open receiver, they put it right in the basket for a score.
Romo squeezes the tough ones in there, but isn’t quite as sharp when the other side totally busts the coverage

Look at the big picture
is this team better than parcell’s last year? no they are not. three years and the team is no better than when you took over. Time to move on. this is the third time Wade has taken over a GOOD team and made them worse or not any better. Time to move on (after the season of course)
Dallas lead the TOP even thought they passed the ball 55 times
The big plays killed this team. It is a stark contradiciton in most games that you pass the ball over 50 times and still dominate TOP.

You could tell
that Tony has confidence from his post game show interview he didn’t have that “I am crap” look. He knows it wasn’t him. They punished Crayton for his game changing crap turnovers, now they need to put Barber in time out, c’mon coaches let’s not be unfair about this. You don’t do your job and you put the ball on the ground and there are other options, no brainer for me. Barber not only fumbled at a most inoportune time, he keeps getting dropped behind the line, can’t all be on the line.

Kurt Warner
would get killed with our line. Romo’s mobility keeps us in a lot of games.
even when they're dominating somebody
I always feel like the Cowboys are a couple plays or a few minutes from blowing a lead or even an entire game. Felt that way for years. Look how they were in this game before Barber fumbles, then it’s like they quit. It’s like you can never trust them to go out and put away an opponent. Hard to explain.
Addressing Ellwood's comment above
Sometimes the team seems scared. When they get a touchdown, they don’t get another one in their next opportunity. When they have the Giants near dead with two minutes left, they give up a smooth 14.
Dallas wasn’t far from ebing up 20-0 or so in the first half, and instead it was 14-10.

It's sloppy, lazy anouncing. Wade is the defensive coordinator, this was a loss due to
big plays given up. Romo had a career passing day. but it’s his fault the defense played terrible because he went to vegas. Lazy anouncing
did he actually say D.Ware?
If he did, then he doesn’t even do his homework; since it was Austin that went with Romo.
I just watched the nfl network Romo interview and Marshall Faulk and Sapp comments.

Romo's in a crappy situation. He can't say what he really feels and can't avoid taking questions.
He’s doing the best thing…saying very little and working on his game. The media is down on him, but his team mates respect him… that’s more important.
I love how the new card
is Romo went to Vegas…so that’s why they lost.
…gimme a break
"It ain't over till its over"---
especially considering he threw for 400 and 3 scores
and had a 75% completion percentage and a 112 passer rating…
yea..
I mean maybe he bet on himself having an incredible game.
I can’t stand that bullcrap.
Him going to Vegas had nothing to do with the game.
I couldn’t even say he bet on the Giants cuz he didn’t do anything wrong to help them…he tore them a new A-hole….
"It ain't over till its over"---
It's like someone above said
It’s lazy reporting. It can’t be that the Giants just played better than us. Or that our O-line was crap. Or that our D made some key mistakes and couldn’t pressure Eli if their lives depended on it. It’s gotta be Romo and “Vegas”
You can do a lot of things in life. You can't stab a teammate with a pair of scissors. - Kevin Smith
it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
I was watching ESPN’s coverage before that, and they didn’t mention it.
Dilfer, Jackson and Bernam usually don’t harp on that crap, or at least say it tongue and cheek.
It seemed teh Giants played with more fire.
Things Like Flozell being an a-hole, Barber and Roy Williams celebrating after every first down…seemed to fire up the Giants.
but no…no credit to the Giants finally playing with fire.
Its all Romo’s Vegas visit.
“How can your team be focused if your QB goes to Vegas”
…who gives a crap?
More power to him. Should he stay at home and read his play book? Or have some fun?
"It ain't over till its over"---
the way Romo played...
maybe he should go to Vegas every game week?
"It ain't over till its over"---
LOL. I said that before. Whatever it was I hope he does it again.
You can do a lot of things in life. You can't stab a teammate with a pair of scissors. - Kevin Smith
Well Romo going to Vegas sounds better
than the x’s and o’s of football. Why break down line play or tackling when we could exagerate stories about Romo becasue that one overthrow of R. Williams and grounding penality were surley because he played craps for a couple of hours in Vegas.
Obviously I’m being sarcastic, if Romo was not there that is a 31-7 game Romo was fine.
LOL

the media is bashing the cowboys instead of praising the giants
because the Cowboys lost this game. but that’s kind of their trend.
they tend to lose rather than get beat.
It's not that I'm saying we're due a playoff win, but I didn't have my license to drive when we won our last one...

At the end of the day...
It’s still the same thing. The media jumps on the ’Boys because of the attention it gets, from lovers and haters. Lovers hate hearing it, and haters love hearing it. Vicious cycle
the giants are a beat up team, they only won this game because the defense dropped the ball
Brandon Jacobs running for a 70+ touchdown, and steve smith going for 100+ is a defense not playing well. Eli went 11-25. Don’t make this into the Giants are a good team, they aren’t. we lost to a crap team,
Come on already just4fun........see your the reasoni cant stand Dallas fans
Giants are not a crap team. Just admit you got beat today and swept. Your ignorant and clueless.

Steve Smith did what he did a lot
Take a gander at his stats…
And the Giants are NOT beat up anymore.
Everyone’s pretty much back and getting more game experience under their belt.
You lost to a team in hibernation, not an inferior team.

I think its safe to say Steve Smith owns Scandrick at this point....
If we happen to meet again maybe they should think about putting Newman or Jenkins on him
"Austin made the play, Austin saved the day" Brad Sham
that's the thing...
I’m pretty sure they did in game one.
Maybe not Jenkins, but definitely Newman.
Probably should try Jenkins next time.

Scandrick was on Smith in the first matchup believe me..

The Media loves the Cowboys when they win
and kills them when they loose, it’s always about the Cowboys it’s ubsurd. The Cowboys just can’t be a good team, they’re either the best team in the history of the NFL or the biggest dissapointment ever. Makes no sense to me
Oh, come on, man...
They love the Cowboys when they win?
After the Redskins victory what did we hear for the whole week? That the Cowboys were lucky for walking out with a victory against such an awful and in disarray team… Fast forward 2 weeks, the Redskins made life difficult for 2 good teams, what did we hear about those teams?
That they played them though and that in the end they won deservingly because they’re the better team.
Oh, yeah, I can hear the love… It’s all around…
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
I guess the brady james should say "dang, Romo, why did you go to Vegas, now i can't play
i’m just SOOOOO uninspired now"
"And because of that Romo, we won't cover BJ outta the backfield or tackle on a punt return."

All I can figure
Is that these guys are trying to be relevant and part of the story, they don’t like the way the narrative is going, they are so completely jealous of the success story of the Dallas Cowboys franchise that they have to tear it down and rewrite a story to their liking. They don’t like Dallas, probably don’t like Texas either. Texas should have never joined the union. Ok, now that’s off topic, sorry

Why all the barber hate?
He averaged much better than Choice and Felix. I hate the fumble. And I hate the fumbling trend the last 2 years. But Choice was microseconds away from his own fumble,
yeah well if Romo can go to Vegas
..then I can sure miss a 42 yard fleld goal
…then we can give up a punt return
…then I can let some fat guy run for 74 yards
I'm done.
Talk to yall tomorrow. I think you can learn from a loss, but I don’t know if this team is willing to learn.
Here is the biggest problem with our offense
we only have one explosive player in the passing game, who is Miles Austin.
This offseason we need to add explosive WR’s to the team. And we don’t have to break the bank to do it. We could add someone like Malcom Floyd in FA and draft someone like Marcus Easley.
the problem is on defense, offense is passable, good enough. they scored when it counted, the defense just let it slip away
defense usually plays well
but if you look at offenses like the Saints or the Vikings they have multiple explosive players in the passing game.
Totally!
If Dallas is gonna be a passing team, then they need to load up with some options like the Cards, Saints, Pats, Colts. Romo can’t be throwing to big huge guys all the time. He needs quick guys too.

I disagree
I think we need to get another MLB-type, and build depth behind the thinner positions. This team has a solid core, they are maybe 2 or 3 pieces away.
a FS would be nice

Vincent Jackson is going to be a FA
but I have a feeling that San Diego will resign him, but if not we need to jump on him
God, he would be awesome to get...
But I’d gamble to say that his price will be very, very high. He’s very quietly become a top WR in the league.
Big body, good hands, great hops…. He’s a monster in jump ball scenarios.
I'm very curious how this would work
With next years “uncapped” season. Can contracts be voided en total? I’d assume no, but what amount will count against future caps?
This could be a huge debate come time to re-up the CBA…. (And, yes, I know it’s an ongoing thing… But it ain’t gonna be done anytime soon)
I'm pretty sure guaranteed money won't hurt us
so we could cut roy and sign someone like Jackson, and maybe Marshall, but I think as a result of the uncapped season Marshall might be restricted.
there's no way SD let's Jackson go
Rivers would flip out
You can't stop Patrick Crayton, you can only hope to contain him.
yeah that is my thinking
but San Diego is not known for giving out big contracts. I’m not sure how stingy they are.
Anyhow Malcom Floyd would be a good pickup if not Jackson.
I think they have plans for Floyd, though. That's why they cut Chambers.

I like the idea of drafting our own guy -like an Easley- more.
Personally, I want a smaller WR but that doesn’t seem to fit the mold around here.

But Easley is like Austin
relatively tall and thick WR who can burn defenses with his speed and quickness. he is like a small WR in a bigger body.
But we need to win now, and WR’s take awhile to develop.
True, but it seems rookie WRs are contributing earlier in recent years.
Another Austin-type is needed because who knows what’s gonna happen to the Y next year. I wouldn’t mind them getting an Austin Collie, Percy Harvin, Steve Breaston…versatile, speedy quick guy though.

Johnny Knox
I remember a few guys on here mentioning him in the draft threads. Sure would be sweet to have him in the WR rotation.
Dallas might have gotten a good one in Ogletree, however.

by APerfectStar on Dec 6, 2009 10:56 PM CST up reply actions
Yeah,
I was hopeful they’d draft Knox in the later rounds. I think we need to add a smaller quicker, shifty type to our arsenal. With Williams, Austin, Witten and Bennett we’ve got plenty of big guys. We need a Terry Glen type. As you said, hopefully Olgetree is that guy.

Are you serious? The problem isn't this offense...aren't we ranked like 4th in the league? Been like that since Romo started.
The problem has always been the defense. That’s precisely why Jerry couldn’t fire Wade. Of all the high profile head coaches available, there weren’t any defensive masterminds. With all the high draft picks we spent on defense, I expected better. It’s maddening…they shut down the Eagles offense (which is more potent than the Giants) and then turn in this performance? Remember the Ravens game last year? They’ll play really well for 2-3 quarters and implode at games end.

defense has been great this year
the two worst defensive performance has been against the Giants. Giants just had our number this year.
Our offense however has been hot and cold, and we need more explosive players who can hurt defenses deep besides Austin.
the plus side
is the last time someone won both games in the regular season in that series, they got owned in the playoffs…
it was just the other way around
It's not that I'm saying we're due a playoff win, but I didn't have my license to drive when we won our last one...
by bulldog jeeper on Dec 6, 2009 9:32 PM CST up reply actions
Our offense had 2 bad games...Packers/Redskins...those 2 games don't look too bad now. Those teams have good defenses.
It’s a misconception that this offense isn’t the strength of this team.
Eagles also
but our offense is on the verge of being great and adding a Miles Austin type of receiver would put us over the top
20 points is not exactly lighting them up
it was an average performance and so was KC, and that is only because Austin broke
You don't have to put up 40 for it to be a good performance.
At least that’s not how I judge offensive performance. The O played well.
OMG
Have we been eliminated? I didn’t know that, gosh I thought we had 4 more games? Is that not true? Dang, I just didn’t know

the next two are against teams with more talent than this one, new orleans is probably a loss
San Diego is tough even if we’re hitting on all cylinders. Thats a good chance at a three game losing streak. New York and Green Bay have the tie breakers with us. If philly wins the division, there is a good chance we’re out of the playoffs
I can see how you might see it that way
but I can’t. I watched that game today with the Saints and saw a team we could beat. I said could, not would, but you get my drift, they aren’t that good. The Redskins just find ways to lose. And you could legitimately feel that the Cowboys are like that too. BUT, we are still in this, the Saints have won more, but they can be beat and we can do it.

I live in saints territory, they get up for the cowboys, it's like one of their rivals. They've beaten us
five straight times, including the last superbowl season. they looked past washington, they won’t look past the cowboys. I don’t know why they think the cowboys are their rival, but they think they are.
as much as I defend Jerry as owner / gm
it’s not like we treat good WRs well in Dallas anyway. i didn’t like the way we cut Keyshawn for TO, and i didn’t like the way we cut TO
maybe both moves needed to be made, but they weren’t made very well…
It's not that I'm saying we're due a playoff win, but I didn't have my license to drive when we won our last one...

the more i think about the rest of our season the better i feel
I think the Chargers game will be the most difficult one left and being at home it’s completely winnable. I feel that the Saints peeked a bit early and are starting to come down, they won’t stay perfect all year and we’ll see to that.
The other two games are against teams we have already beaten this year, one of which was in a very hostile road environment. No reason to believe we can’t beat them again.
Here’s to playing late into winter!
he's an ancient college player

speed, return skills, and experience playing from the slot on a budget.

competitive with a legitimate chance to win*
if for example, we make the plays we didn’t make today.
Yep, I'm optimistic too...
If we’re good enough, we’ll win, if not, we won’t, but I think we will. Dallas plays the tough teams well, it’s just the “pushover” teams we play badly…
yep
thats why I’m not gonna get all pessimistic. We can’t make any changes now or anything. If we go 3-1, we’ll be in. 2-2, well likely be in.
I'm not worried about the playoffs, Barring injuries, it's hard to believe we don't get it...
…I just want to be playing consistent the last few weeks of the season.
theres definitely reason to be worried
the giants and packers own the tiebraker against us. We can absolutely finish 10-6 and not make it.
No question it would have helped to win this game, but the point I was making was that I'm
“comfortable” that we’ll make the playoffs whether as division winners or wildcard. That hasn’t been our problem…yes we didn’t get in last year, but that was due to injuries…with Romo playing, we have the chance to make the playoffs every year, but can we actually do something when we get in…that’s the question.
philly is the only team with a winning record we've beaten this year
We don’t play good teams well, we just play down to some bad teams
You and Terry are my BFF's
I want to believe, that’s why I’ll watch every game til we’re planted and that’s still a big IF

It was a very good, competetive game today................
And im not gonna lie, I despise the Cowboys and am so happy my G-men issued them a beatdown today cuz this was a must-win for the Giants and after the Giants dismantle the Eagles next week…(hopefully) the Giants will be right back in it and fighting for the division title. This one feels really good though………I doubt any1 in here will agree but good luck the rest of the way Dallas cuz ur gonna need it…………..your schedual is very tuff…………and did I mention I hate the Cowboys…..lol.
ya'll are gonna get killed next week. I hate philly more than the Giants, but Philly won't be letting
you off the hook the way we did. They have a much more developed killer instinct than us. You didn’t win this game we lost it. there’s a difference
Really? and how did you lose it and we didnt win it?

not a sore loser, dallas out gained in every stat but the score board, lost focus
and let routine plays go for long scores, didn’t tackle well. If the defense makes all the routine plays, you lose.
you have made the argument that Dallas is a bad team
Apart from Phil, you have not beaten a team with a winning record

brandon jacobs running for 70+ yard td on a swing pass is something we gave you. Poor tackling on
the punt return is something we gave you
Eli completing 11 passes, and giving up 392 in the air isn't going to beat a lot of teams
just this one in december. I’m just saying if we passed for 392, don’t expect philly to score just 24. and give up more than 10
giving up 300 yds on the ground won't win many games too
but we are 2-0
ehh,, i don't know if we can go that far...
nobody “gives” Miles Austin a TD when he breaks their tackles for a score. we shot ourselves in the foot and the Giants kept reloading the gun for us and helping us hold it.
we lost the game, but it’s just as reasonable to say that they beat us…at least where it matters.

Hopefully we both give them their 2 season ending loses
U gave us? thats pretty funny. Giants got a key block on Jacobs run and he flat out
out ran Spencer to the endzone while avoiding a tackle……which should of been made. Whenever you have a guy on the sideline you should be able to push him out. And on the punt return good blocking coupled with an amazing run by Hixon made that play. Give credit where its due man like me saying that I think Whiten is the best TE in football which he is. Dallas got outplayed today bottom line.

i'll give you the wanted it more thing, maybe. but your team must play better to
get in the playoffs. Obviously, we gotta focus more.
the strength that a team with some "elder-statemen" types is that they can motivate their teams to play in desperation
the weakness of a young team (and i would put the Boys in that category – though i could be wrong) is that no one steps into that role
dawkins did it to us last year. tuck and even pierce on the sideline did it to us today.
It's not that I'm saying we're due a playoff win, but I didn't have my license to drive when we won our last one...

You saw Sensabaugh's attempt at a tackle on that Jacobs catch
And you didn’t saw the TE mugging him? That was such an easy call for a referee, that it’s mind boggling… Just like all the holdings that went uncalled against Spencer and Ware… There was a play were an OLineman almost snapped a shoulder pad from Spencer’s uniform… Absolutely awful…
But I’m not blaming the referees, missed calls happen in every game, it’s a shame that so many awful calls went the Cowboys way, but the mistakes from our team are the ones that cost the couple of games against your team.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
Hey Chandus, the cowboys were getting away with alot of holding calls all day.
Flozell especially. All day on giants linemen. it goes both ways. And your right. On Jacobs TD Sensabaugh was getting held up a bit but there were noncall both ways today. What are you gonna do though. It happens. The refs cant catch everything

most on the Giants blog
said the first Williams TD was obviously a offensive Pass Interference, when he push off
It happens on a lot of plays
True, but things aren't as simple
Roy Williams made contact on Webster, yes. But Webster made contact with Williams before Williams did his thing and Webster never let go.
That kind of play, were contact is made by both players, will go the Offense way 100 times out of 100.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
Enjoy the win, just don't get too carried away, the Giants are still out of the playoffs at the moment and you still need
help to get in.
We dont need help, we win and we are in.And believe me
Cali, i am a Giant fan and I know better than to get carried away. Nothing ever comes easy for us.

Ummmmm, the first game was as easy as a game can be...
You’re kidding me, and interception from Witten’s heel?
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
it was a really badly Romo pass
if you have no accuracy and hit the TE 2 yds behind him, bad things normally happens
No, if you win out and the Cowboys, Eagles, and Packers win out...you don't get in...again, you need help.
It’s hard for me to say this, but as a Cowboys fan, I’ve learned from the Giants that it’s not how you play now, but how you play in the end. We beat the Giants twice in 2007 and what did that get us? The Giants barely squeaked into the playoffs in 2007 needing a win over the lowly Bills, and then you guys run the table for the Lombardi trophy…
I’m pissed about the loss, but I just want the Boys to learn from it and improve.
Cowboys plays the Eagles
you cannot both win out
just by definition
if we win out we beat the eagles
You are very confused
Out of GB/Boys/Eagles/Giants
Boys plays eagle
Giants plays eagle
So if Giants and packers win out and boys beat eagles (eagles loses twice)
Boys and GB finishes 12-4 Giants 11-5 Eagles 10-6 GB/Cowboys and Giants makes the playoff
If Giants and GB wins out and Eagle beats boys
GB 12-4 Gaints/Eagles/Cowboys 11-5 GB gets wildcard
Conference Giants/Eagle 9-3 Cowboys 8-4
Division Giants 5-1 Eagles 4-2 Cowboys 3-3
The Cowboys miss out
If Giants wins out, either Eagles/Cowboys will miss the playoff, with the winner of last round game miss out
im telling you right now, Cowboys are probably the most talented team in the league
by far. i just think you need a better coach. No matter what happens this year i think wade is a gonner. especially with all the really good coaches available out there
by giantsNYrangers on Dec 6, 2009 10:23 PM CST up reply actions
Cowboys fans have been crying for a new coach, but who's available?
Holmgren, Shanahan, Gruden…all offensive coaches. Our problem isn’t offense. We need someone to turn our Defense into a 2007 Giants caliber unit. That’s why Wade is still the coach, because he’s the best 3-4 defensive coach available, but at the end of the day the players have to play well.
Wade's a heck of a DC, i like him in that role
but i doubt he’d stay on in that role if we brought in a new HC.
we need a mean MLB type who acts as a player/coach on the field demanding perfection from the squad… there’s just a shortage of those guys.
It's not that I'm saying we're due a playoff win, but I didn't have my license to drive when we won our last one...
by bulldog jeeper on Dec 6, 2009 10:58 PM CST up reply actions
Again, who's out there?
It’s easy to say fire the coach, but who’s the replacement? Don’t tell me anyone is better than Wade…that’s nonsense.
Here’s something to mull over…bring in Mike Zimmer as head coach. He’s a real ball buster and has a long history with the Cowboys and then bring in Charlie Weiss as Offensive coordinator. Zimmer is a great coach and even had the Cowboys ranked as the #1 defense during Parcells first year, and he did this with scrub talent and we know what Weiss has done as a coordinator.
i've got news for you...
i’m on your side of this argument. the reason he should stay as HC is that there isn’t a better Defensive minded option out there
It's not that I'm saying we're due a playoff win, but I didn't have my license to drive when we won our last one...
by bulldog jeeper on Dec 6, 2009 11:13 PM CST up reply actions
Exactly...People think Jerry is stupid but he came to this conclusion last year.
I’m not a Wade fan, but who’s better? He won’t stay if demoted. Garrett is easier to replace.
I wanted Rex Ryan. That's over now but I think he could have done wonders with our defense
You can do a lot of things in life. You can't stab a teammate with a pair of scissors. - Kevin Smith
2007 Giants unit was good in the playoffs...
…and so-so in the regular season. Very few defenses are elite every single game of a 17+ week season. Wade’s defenses have been in the top third of the league consistently, we could certainly do a lot worse than that.
I’ll agree that today the defense certainly bears some of the responsibility for the loss.
Larry Allen benched 700 pounds. That is Leonard Davis times two.
my concern with the D
is that the reason we’re top 5-7 is because we’ve faced few legitimate offenses -one of those being the eagles on a McNabb off day.
The Giants have wrecked us both times.
Hopefully I’m wrong.
True. you guys swept us in 07' but we won when it counted. With the help of Crayton dropping
a huge pass that would of def won the game for the Cowboys but thats why they play the games. Everything went right for the Giants that year. Not to mention a killer defense that yr.
by giantsNYrangers on Dec 6, 2009 10:26 PM CST up reply actions
The same thing that happened to you guys in 2007 happened to the Cardinals last year.
They didn’t finish like you guys did, but they came pretty close. The media has already put the Saints or Vikings in the Superbowl…when was the last time the top seed won the Lombardi trophy? I’m pissed about the loss, but too much can happen before the end of the season…the media is saying that the power is no longer in the NFC East…but it’s still possible to have 3 teams make the playoffs from this division.
we missed the entire 1st quarter in Wichita courtesy of the Saints game...
not that it mattered intensely, but what went down? the game switched over in the 2nd just before the Cowboys scored their TD

As long as we make the playoffs, I like our chances to do some damage
New Orleans and Minnesota are both very beatable, even by us.
The trick for us will be getting in the playoffs. I believe.
I still believe in Romo.
why do you believe this team can do some damage in the playoffs? i mean most of us
hope to win. but this team is 1-4 against winning teams. everyteam we face from here on out (except for washington) has a winning records. Against teams in a must win situation (GB, NY) we are 0-2. Playoffs are a must win situation. Wade had NEVER won a playoff game despite taking over three playoff quality teams.
because the season isn't over.
And I don’t believe that the past always dictates the future. Sure Wade has never won before, but that doesn’t automatically mean this season will end the same way. (maybe it will, maybe it won’t, but nothing is certain) There’s still four games left to play. We’ll see how the team responds.
I still believe in Romo.
because to believe otherwise would be to give up on the season
and if I’ve given up, then why even bother watching another game? why even bother reading another cowboy-related article or posting here? I don’t see a point in looking to next season while this season is still in play. Plenty of teams have looked DOA at this point in the season, only to turn it around and storm through the playoffs.
I still believe in Romo.
you watch because you hope they win, because there is still a chance.
Hell, i watched through the 3-13, 1-15 years, when there was no hope. you watch no matter what because your a true fan. but that doesn’t mean you can’t be objective
I don't have to be objective
It’s a game. This isn’t something I have to get right. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong.
Either the team wins or it doesn’t. And if they don’t, then oh well.
I still believe in Romo.
Why do you believe otherwise?
In this age of parity only the truly “out of the freaking picture” teams still have hope to hoist the Lombardi trophy. All you have to remember is how the Giants won it by being the 6th seed, so did the Steelers. The Steelers get beat by the Chiefs, and today by the, uh, Raiders. We are in it, we are ahead, we’re playing at home next week, and the Saints almost got beat by the hapless Redskins. We can do it, and it just might happen. We’ll just have to wait and see, which I plan to do. I BELIEVE and will do so until it’s done.

Dallas struggles against GOOD 3-4 defenses
You think the problems we had with Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, etc. were because of the scheme or because of the fact that they were abll top 5 scoring defenses at the time?
I’m gonna go with a little bit of both, but definitely more of the latter as being the major cause. San Diego’s not in that class right now.
Larry Allen benched 700 pounds. That is Leonard Davis times two.
san diego has won 7 straight games, they aren't in those other teams class, they are above it

They just barely beat the giants and the eagles put up a ton of points on them
Offensively, they’re playing well but I’m not convinced their D is top 5.
Its a good question though as to whether its a problem with the 3-4 itself or just those specific units.
On the negative Barber comments...
I get that people are frustrated with Marion, and I certainly agree that he has been a less explosive back since his injury last year (and his YPC bears that out). So a certain amount of requests/grumbling for the other 2 backs to see increased snaps is understandable, and I made some similar comments after the Packers and Skins games.
That said, please consider the following:
“WHen a back runs for 3, 5, or even 8 yards, he usually owes the lion’s share of credit to his offensive line. But once a back reaches the second level— 10 yards and beyond— any additional ground gained is primarily a function of his speed, vision, power, and agility.” —quoted directly from Football Outsiders’ recent ESPN piece on Chris Johnson
Tonight, our failures in the run game were in that first level of yardage, less than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage (which includes BEHIND the line of scrimmage, where many of our runs ended). Yes, Marion seems less explosive, and I’d bet that he is below the league average in percentage of rushing yards gained beyond the 10 yard barrier (NFL team average is 20%). But tonight, that was not the issue— our offensive line did not succeed in getting success on that first level.
Larry Allen benched 700 pounds. That is Leonard Davis times two.
true
but we (and i’m included in this) KILLED JJones for dropping in the first level, where MB3 appeared to thrive. is it oline or back? could it be both?
It's not that I'm saying we're due a playoff win, but I didn't have my license to drive when we won our last one...
by bulldog jeeper on Dec 6, 2009 10:53 PM CST up reply actions
Sure, I think it's a little bit of both
But expecting a back to be SO GOOD that he can overcome bad blocking and make his own first level success is having unrealistic expectations. Some guys can do it some of the time, but it’s not sustainable.
I think the issue with JJ, and the one that we are now seeing with MB3, is a lack of explosive ability when he DOES get to the second level. Let me say again, that was not the problem tonight. However, I think it’s a legitimate gripe in general this season with Marion— he is not making an above average % of his yards on that second level. So yes it’s an issue, but I think we should just be aware that tonight, it was not the real problem.
Larry Allen benched 700 pounds. That is Leonard Davis times two.

no a tie is bad too
we want one of these teams to have a loss. If its the giants, we have a relatively good shot at finishing above them. If its philly, then we can be pretty sure the eason will come down to week 17.
and im not convinced one winning is better than the other at this point
it depends on how the rest of the season plays out.
