So What is Owens Worth in Trade?
I don't know how to set up a poll (if anyone could help me I'd be appreciative). I'm very curious as to what Owens would fetch in a trade. A soon-to-be 36 year old receiver, who has trouble getting off the line, who if you take away his Seattle performance has averaged 50 yards per game over the last 20 games. But he's T.O., and some people love him.
I'll start out the bidding at Owens and a fourth-round pick for a mid-first round pick. Any takers? Is Al Davis that stupid?

I gotta say that nobody in the NFL is stupid enough to trade anything of value for TO. Regardless of what you think of the guy, trades are based on market value and there’s absolutely no demand for TO. Of course, that’s a bit difficult to gauge because other teams aren’t allowed to comment on players under contract. But when’s the last time you heard anyone remotely credible (that takes Deion and Irvin out of the mix) as a former player/coach/gm suggest that they’d want TO on their team? The only fans/media guys that want him are Dallas fans, and 90% of those will turn their backs on him the minute he’s out the door (from one homer to a bunch of others—rooting for the Cowboys makes you quickly come to terms with decisions you don’t initially agree with).
Jerry’s the only GM in the NFL that follows a policy of always giving a player what he thinks they’re worth regardless of demand (see T.O.‘s initial Dallas contract, in spite of the fact that nobody else even made him an offer). I’d say that T.O.‘s post-Cowboys performance would be worth a first round pick, but nobody’s going to need to even put it out there. There will be no trade—either T.O. stays, or he’s cut outright.

But I can’t argue with the premise that Al Davis is stupid/crazy enough to do it.

I'd say a 2nd or 3rd rd pick, no worse than a 4th

I think a 5th at best
(Romo) still gets excited when he buys a new t-shirt at Target for crying out loud

Rumors Torry Holt is available for a 3rd...
Can’t imagine T.O.‘s value is much different, though I’m not sure it’s quite as high…
No chance somebody trades a first or second…

Maybe they can package T.O. with the bad Roy Williams
for a 2nd and a six pack of Mickey’s Big Mouths.

And Jerry isn’t stupid enough to trade him….

word is the Raiders are the only team interested
now that Shanahan is no longer coaching the Bronocos who were the only team interested in him before we signed him.
The Chicago media is saying the Bears have no interest in him and that says a lot considering their receiving corp really sucks.

To Tennessee for Vince Young?
Titans need a big-time WR to go with their Power Running Game.
10 mill is too much to pay a backup quarterback with a questionable head.
Trade a Texas legend back to a Texas team for a Tennessee (Tennessee-Chattanooga) legend back to Tennessee.
The Titan locker room and coaching staff could handle a “free-spirit” like Owens, he’s not a criminal, just a hard to control, selfish player.

except that Vince Young is horrible
we might as well keep Johnson for crying out loud.

at least Young is mobile
and definitely has a better arm than Johnson. This won’t happen though but please don’t put Young down that far. He’s waaaaaay better than Johnson.

Ha!
He may not be the brightest bulb but he’s come a long way. Cut the kid some slack. I’ve met VY and he’s a very shy person but he’s really nice to kids. He can relate very well to children. Do you know his story? He was raised by a single mom with a dad in prison that was thrust into the limelight.

I'm a UT hater
so I’m a bit jaded but I don’t think you get credit for making right decisions and being nice to kids. It’s like Chris Rock said, someone comes up to you and says they’ve never been to jail, “What do you want a cookie?”

It's obvious you are a UT hater
and I know you were trying to be funny with the wunderlich comment. You probably don’t know but Dan Marino didn’t exactly score that great on the Wunderlich. I worded it poorly, but all I was trying to say was that VY is a very good “athlete”. Not necessarily at QB. For someone to just call someone dumb or stupid without even knowing anything about them sometimes rubs me the wrong way. Sorry, but because I have met VY, I am a little more sensitive to the name calling.

Noted
Don’t know him and I’m not assuming he’s dumb based on Wunderlich, it really was an attempt at humor

I kinda figured it was humor
Didn’t mean to come across as a jerk.

I knew a history teacher who used to give the Wunderlich out
to the students to take.
I was always jealous I didn’t think of that first. Woulda taken up class time.

Horrible as a QB, but what about converting to WR?
A 6-5 230 athletic freak who runs a 4.4 with elusiveness, maybe after getting humbled at QB, he’d be willing to try WR wholeheartedly. If the ‘Boys ran the Wildcat with him and Felix Jones 5-10 times a game, he could earn his paycheck in the meantime while being converted to WR. It doesn’t hurt to have a mobile back-up QB with Flozel “Turnstile” Adams at LT.

yeah but
VY doesnt even know if he wants to play football anymore.. isnt that the story his mind isnt in it?

Who knows what the real story with VY is?
The media really hyped up the story early last year, but I don’t know what to buy of the story. Unfortunately, IMO VY is a phenominal gifted athlete. The Titans tried to turn him into a proto-typical QB which he isn’t/nor will he ever. If you look back at his UT days, the coaches tried to work with him and change his throwing motion but he regressed. When they let him go back to what was natural for him, you saw incredible plays. Am I saying he’s a Great QB? No, but he is a great athlete that if developed properly, who knows?

lol...anything that threatens Romo....Terry jumps back onto the fence of reality.
by CowboysRnumba1 on Feb 14, 2009 2:38 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
thats funny
because Young could never threaten Romo in any way. I could care less who the Cowboys bring in as a back up so long as they’re better than BJ which shouldn’t be too difficult.

4th at BEST
The only way i imagine him fetching higher than that is if there is a team that believes its a receiver away from contending for a championship. And i think the only two teams in the league that fall in that category are the Eagles and Giants. and i feel prety confident in saying neither of thsoe teams will trade for TO.
TO will be 36 years old next year. Hes shown signs of decline, and while he is certainly still a good receiver, he is not top 10 and 2 years from now theres a good chance he’ll be an average receiver. Whose gonna trade a first day draft pick for that? and this is completely disregarding the impact on the team, which lets face it, is undeniably bad.

Well
3rd round draft pick isnt a first day pick anymore

I'd be surprised if anybody will trade for him.
Maybe get a 4rd or 4th from Al Davis if the Raiders can find the cap room.
But there is no way TO is traded for a first rounder.

Veteran stocks are low right now because of the draft's proximity.
You definitely get more value after teams have settled their rosters at the end of preseason. I would hate to see T.O. got to a good team for a 4th, like Moss did, and have him help somebody like Atlanta or Chicago to the Superbowl.
