Anyone else concerned about CB?
All of the off-season talk has been about NT, ILB, S and OL as positions of need in the upcoming draft. But with the trade of Henry, and with the additions of the recent FA's that have been signed I'm starting to think that maybe CB might become a higher priority by the time the draft rolls around. Henry had lost a step and was no longer the ball hawk he was in his younger days, but he was still a decent starter, allowing younger guys to fill other rolls. But if our assumptions are correct that Newman and Jenkins will be the starters we are one injury away (TNew's groin again?) from having Alan Ball or worse manning the slot with Scandrick manning the other starters spot. That scares me! ANd Newman is already over 30. We went through many years dealing with that sort of thing, and it was no fun. The problem is that this is a week draft for CB's, any one capable of coming and and contributing even a little will be long gone by the 51st pick rolls around.
If we can pick up a cheap, serviceable veteran FA that could fill in if disaster strikes that would ease the pain of an unexpected injury.

From Hero to Zero
Carr’s star has certainly fallen precipitously. Now, the question is whether it was from a differnt scheme or did his skills diminish a lot?
As with all things, if the price is right, we don’t have much depth right now, so why not take a flyer on Carr?
"Well, we didn't block real good but we made up for it by not tackling."
- John McKay, the first coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I read on RotoWorld that he's still making the rounds
Probably means his asking price is to high.
But I’d be happy if Jerry can pull it off. Put him back on kickoffs with Felix, and use him as a nickel back.
Just to throw out a couple other possibilities

I'd like to get Carr.
He’d be an upgrade for sure. Not just at a #4 or 5 CB position, but he upgrades the PR position too. And he’d probably be CHEAP!!! That’s what I look for in a backup CB. LOL
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.
I agree this is a concern as well......
especially since we are uncertain about safety as well. I’m not saying that we should have kept Roy, but with him and Henry gone our secondary is very unsettled. Admittedly, both weren’t the best anymore, but I feel we have some holes to fill. Dre Bly,Chris Carr, and Ken Lucas are the three remaining corners available imo. Have I left out anybody?
It's not really a concern now
it’s that it will be once Newman hurts himself running against air in training camp. That’s when we’re all going to start panicking.

LOL.......
this sounds kinda like how a lot of people are living these days. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Just live for today. Then one day you wake up and wonder how in the heck you ended up with that $50,000 credit card bill. I’m teasing and that’s probably a bad analogy. All I’m getting at is maybe if we were a little bit better prepared we wouldn’t keep getting caught with our pants down.
We move up and get Malcolm Jenkins
this way we have Mike and Malcolm play together and defenses won’t know who is who and thus create confusion and interceptions.
But seriously, yea I expect us to draft a CB or 2 just for depth or for a dime corner. We’re an injury away from a Jacque Reeves situation again.
"Aw Shucks" - Wade Phillips
Don't count on any movement until after the draft
If there were a starter out there (and there are still a few trolling), they’d be gone by now.
Most have backup written. Yet no team, NONE, have bitten. Why?…because teams are waiting until after the draft to determine their depth issues.
Expect every “need” that is not directly addressed in the draft to become a feeding frenzy over the remaining scraps.
But it’s hardly worth getting a wad in your panties over the 4th or 5th spot at any position.
I, for one, subscribe to the Pittsburgh model of letting starters go before they have to be let go.
Res firma mitescere nescit
I'm not anymore concered with CB
as I am with OL, DL or LB all of which are very thin in terms of depth. Sure we need another quality CB for depth purposes, however, we also need quality backups for the other positions I’ve mentioned as well.

I like Jenkins and Scandrick
And Ball didn’t look too bad at all. I think it was the Tampa game he ended up having to play in extensively? I don’t recall, but I remember them trying to pick on the guy, and he held his own. Granted, having Scandrick, Jenkins, and Ball on the field at the same time would be quite frightening, but it could be a lot worse.
But also, you have to consider TNew’s current injury-prone status. Guy has had a rough couple of seasons. I reckon they could draft a couple of guys in mid to late rounds to be on the safe side. But as far as looking for a veteran, I don’t think that’s necessary at all.
