Cowboys Mock Final
I know there is no way we end up w/ all these players because of the draft picks being forced onto the cap and Jerruh likes to get future picks and will move around most likely more than any other team but its fun to see who we can get. Opinions are welcome but if you think the pick is bad, then put down a prospect you would choose at that position. Also this will be the last unless Austin leaves. It will be fun to have back to back picks in the second but Miles has gotten better each year and I have hope that he will have a breakout year that matches his potential. Back on to the mock.
2nd Round pick #51- Duke Robinson OG, Oklahoma (6-5 329 pounds) ---- Robinson played LG which is what we need. We don’t need for him to step in day one but w/ both Kosier and Holland going down and the Cowboys wanting to balance run/pass ratio we need a Guard that will team with Gurode and Davis to maul opponents and help us run up the gut. I have been against this pick thinking that we have other needs that are more pressing but Duke is the best player available and will be dynamic for us in the run game.
3rd Round pick #69- Chip Vaughn SS, Wake Forest (6-2 221) ----- Explosive hitter that biggest concerns were his speed but ran an unofficial 4.36 at the Combine (4.42 official). High Character, hard worker that has only played 2 years on defense and has improved greatly the past 2 years.
4th Round pick #101- Dorell Scott NT, Clemson (6-3 312) --- Was supposed to compete for the Outland Trophy before the season but a knee injury slowed him down. He is a hard worker and was a leader at Clemson. Has impressive quickness for a 300+ pounder and will be good in pursuit (4.96 40 time).
4th Round pick #117- Brandon Tate WR, North Carolina (6-0 183) ---- Dynamic punt returner and receiver which will be a steal if he returns fully healthy. It will give us a punt returner that can take it to the house at anytime and will also become a very good slot guy because of his quickness.
5th Round pick #156 – Augustus Parrish OT, Kent State (6-4 303) --- Has the quickness to keep up with speed rushers and uses his arms well to hold off rushers. Has a mean streak.
5th Round pick #166 – Frantz Joseph ILB, Florida Atlantic (6-1 242) ---- Nasty hitter which will surprise with his instinct in pass coverage. Will become James’ longtime sidekick.
5th Round pick #172 – Chris Baker NT, Hampton (6-2 326) ---- Another 300+ pounder that ran under 5 seconds (4.94) and is a good pass-rusher for an inside guy as evidenced by his 8.5 sacks. Will be the wide body we need but can also rush the passer.
6th Round pick #197 – Nathan Brown QB, Central Arkansas (6-1 219) --- He compares to Romo so that’s a positive. A mobile QB that dominated lesser competition that will have a few years to learn before he is thought of as the number 1 backup.
6th Round pick #208 – Lee Robinson OLB, Alcorn State (6-2 249) --- Ultra productive OLB that can do it all, 111 tackles, 10.5 for a loss, 3.5 sacks, 3 INTs, and 3 forced fumbles. Will start on ST but make his way to backing up Ware/Spencer….might push Spencer.
7th Round pick #210 – Marcus McClinton FS, Kentucky (6-0 210) --- Could be a steal. Has had injury issues but if healthy is a good coverage safety. Needs some good coaching. A reliable open field tackler but will sometimes go for the knockout hit instead of wrapping up. Good speed and good instincts. Very productive as well, 10 INTs and 8 FF for his career at Kentucky.
7th Round pick #227 – Brice McCain CB, Utah (5-9 185) ---- Small but Ultra quick, has been timed by coaches at 4.19. Official pro day time is 4.33. 3 Year starter and had 21 pass defended in his career. Also returned kickoffs.

Not bad at all
I’m still not convinced that Jerry will use all those picks. If he does, thats not a bad lineup. I had Qb McGee at 172 if we took a NT at 69 or 101. I can’t see them taking 2 NT.
I also thought that they might be able to grab WR Patrick Turner at 197 if they picked that far. Nice picking. Fills the need with good upside prospects and some quality players. Austin leaving might be a problem, but I think if that does happen you will see a veteran brought in short term until one of the kids step up. We still have a lot of roster cuts coming up to get short term solutions to problems. A very nice board.
It Certainly Fills Our Needs
I too think JJ will try to wheel and deal.Move up move down our get higher picks for next year.
Last year the WRs slipped down inthe draft let’s hope that is the case this year if Austin leaves.
Don’t most mocks have Robinson going earlier/

Nice
I’m not a big fan of taking a guard since we traded for Holland last year, but if he’s the best player available, do it.
Dorell Scott
I’ve been hearing and reading a bunch about him and I’m starting to believe that if our team really wants him they better take him with the 2nd Round pick….
Dallas, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Miami, NYJets and New England are a few of the teams that scheduled private workouts with him and I’ve read that Pittsburgh really likes him, even going as far as comparing him with Casey Hampton…
Yeah, after the 51st pick and before the 69th we have the 52nd (Jets), 53rd (Eagles), 56th (Dolphins), 58th (Patriots) and 64th (Steelers). He’s going to be a 2nd Rounder.
Viva México! Go Cowboys!
Nah
Don’t believe the hype…
Scott that early would be a reach.
Brace is better and Sammie Lee Hill will be there at #69 if Scott goes too soon.

The reason Scott is in the fourth
Is he had a down year as well as some injury concerns

Some thoughts...
Robinson won’t make it past Pittsburgh, but if they do, certainly not past Cincy at 38.
Vaughn ran a 4.51 (not sure where you got your time from) at Indy and can’t cover. I think Dallas is done with SS’s who can’t stay with the Chris Cooley’s of the world. Vaughn will be there in round 5 as he is seen as a project.
Scott is a nice choice there, not sure he will last that long.
Tate will be long gone by 117. Too bad, because he is a stud.
Baker probably goes earlier too, because there are several teams looking for a nose guard in this draft because of their move to a 3-4 or a hybrid.
I love McClinton, but he is a durability risk. I hope they can get him.

That's pretty good
but I don’t like a guard so early; I have a feeling we are targeting Roger Allen in the mid to later rounds.
Quincy
Not that its a bad pick, Allen with a 5th rd would be great but why do you think they will wait to fix such a major problem from last year.
because it's not often your starter, Kosier, and his backup, Holland, will both go down
and a 3rd stringer has to play most of the year. Plus Holland may beat out Kosier for the starting spot anyhow.
True but
Holland’s contract is over at the end of this year and Kosier isn’t known as a power guy. With Barber we need a Power running Oline to make big lanes up the middle.

A lot of wishful thinking
I love Tate’s overall skills but he might be gone when we pick at 51 and will definately be gone when we pick at 117. Scott is another great pick but won’t be there at 101. To get him we’d have to make the move with our early 3rd round pick. Robinson is another good player but he could go to Pittsburgh at 32 and won’t make it past pick 40. Vaughn is not the immediate player that we need and is suspect in coverage. He is viewed as a project with high upside. I’m not as high on Brown as some are but in the 6th round it doesn’t matter if he works out or not anyway. Otherwise a good draft.
I Love Joesph
He just might be a 2 down linebacker like brooking will be so i dont see much improvment…. but i do like him alot. ;)
09+24+28+23+82+11+94+41+26+31+90+32+56=2009 Success!!!!
If Scott isn't there...
Sammie Lee Hill might be another option.

I think we give sensabaugh a shot this year so we do not draft a safety early
I really believe he has some potential, so I am on board with Duke Robinson. I had a fanpost earlier about how I think he would be our best bet, but we will see it all depends on how we feel about our safety position.
Nice mock.
I think I’d try to get Scott McKillop if he’s available in the 4th.

He's not much of an athlete...

I like McKillop
but I feel that Frantz is the same player but we can grab him later. No one can match Frantz’s production the past 2 years and when he hits someone, they feel it and because we play Brandon Jacobs twice a year we need someone who will not get blown over.

I hear you but
it would be hard for ANY LB to match McKillop’s production the last two years. 288 tackles, 27.5 TFL’s, 7 sacks, 11 PBU’s, and 3 INT’s. That’s pretty dang good for an ILB. I know he may not be the greatest “athlete” on Earth but I’ll settle for a good football player.
