The NY Daily News Jets blog says the Jets won't offer Miles Austin a contract.
The Jets' courtship of Cowboys WR Miles Austin is "dead," according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
Evidently, the Jets came to their senses, realizing it would've been crazy to part with a second-round pick -- the compensation that would've been required to land Austin, a restricted free agent.

Thank god.
Getting another 2nd round pick would be nice, but Austin has been with Dallas his entire career and has been getting better every season. He knows the scheme, he knows the players, and with more playing time he can make a big impact, especially if he overtakes PC as the #2.

Well that settles that
Now we all know we have a deep threat
I thank God everyday i wasnt born a Eagles fan!!!!!!
they took a serious look at him
a 2nd rounders a lot to give up for a guy thats probably not known well outside of dallas, the nfc east and miami.
Also, their fans were incredibly outspoken about not wanting miles, which is funny cause from what i’ve read on blogs, most of them didn’t seem to know anything about him. My guess is that had something to do with the decision.
Honestly, due to the change we’ve already made in our receiving corps in cutting TO, Austin has more value to us than to any team he’d sign with.
Maybe the Jets called us up and told us what they were going to offer him and we said we would match
This sounds like sour grapes to me.
Why?
What would the Jets have to gain by doing that?
Unlike a Cowboys' season, in life, there may not be a next year.

NO
He has the ability…the only question has been his health.
I’m glad he’s back!!!

One would think a WR with 3 seasons under his belt, and great measurables would be a better choice than any rookie 2nd round WR available to them..
Personally, the mere thought that a team valued him enough to look at as a possible 2nd rounder alternative was a little perplexing to me from the get go, as I certainly don’t see 2nd round worthiness, and now appearantly neither do the Jets. I would have taken a 2nd rounder for him in a heart beat. We have much more pressing needs, and WR shouldn’t be the focal point of our offense anyhow. We set scoring and passing records in 2007 with Crayton as our #2, and Austin had no impact whatsoever that season (5 receptions). With more of an impedus on two TE, 2 WR-single back or 2 RB-single WR sets is the way this team should role..It’s entirely up to Jason Garrett, the red headed step child to implement a Romo friendly approach.
The Jets seen the same potential many on here seen….He’s got the straight line wheels, has improved his catching ability, and is ahead of the learning curve, so I understand their interest…But to sign a RFA would have cost them in excess of over 2 million a year, and thought better of the idea to go WR early in the draft for the same(1st) or less money (2nd) …..simple economical move…Austin agent assumingly seeking 3 million plus, and Austin’s declaration of wishing to stay in Dallas had everything to do with it….
A receiver I was a big advocate of prior to last years draft was former Missouri WR Will Franklin- 6’1 -210lbs slot WR/deep threat was released the other day by Kansas City
. I have no clue why/how they can possible release him after only one season, unless he has not responded well to a knee injury sustained last season. in TC.. He has every measurable/ has the speed/ good character, etc…You don’t give up on 4th rounders like that…..They signed L Coles to pair with Jarrett…..but what else do they have at WR ??? THIS IS worth investigating….
Here is a guy that was #2 in the 40 at the combine with a 4.37 40, had a 40" + verticle, and was slated to start for KC from the get go, but sustained a knee injury in training camp, had surgery, and wasn’t able to get over the hump with all the lost time. I do know he was behind in route running coming from a spread, and was dropping a few balls in TC prior to the injury, but has the ability to work on that (Austin was terrible with drops his first two seasons) HE is certainly worth looking into (He was brought to Valley Ranch prior to last years draft for a visit)
you can’t grow 4.37 speed on tree’s…Aren’t we looking for a slot guy that can stretch the field ???
UFA-Will Franklin is where I’d be looking right now.

Speedy wideout provides the Chiefs with another downfield threat … Talented athlete should battle for playing time at wide receiver and could also contribute on special teams … Possesses outstanding leaping ability, which allowed him to make a number of acrobatic grabs at the collegiate level … Fearless pass catcher who can make the tough reception across the middle in traffic … Played in 48 games (36 starts) at Missouri … Caught 143 passes for 2,125 yards (14.9 avg.) with 13 touchdowns for the Tigers
Dumb move by the Jets, because they are not drafting anyone at #52 better than Austin.
Cowboys were matching anything the Jets had to offer. This is real good news.
I dont know if its dumb.
He will do better for us than he would for them. I dont know anything about the Jets but i know on paper Myles looks like a good fit for us. He has spent 3 years in this offense and him and Tony should be on the same page more than anyone else. He is a nice compliment to witten, RW and Felix.
A second is probably better for them. It would have been a PR diasaster for signing him an some dumbass would expect a HOFer and remind everyone every day that Moss was gotten for a 4th. Im sure they have their own version of Tex. They would have higher expectations than a nice compliment WR.

I agree there are no mid/late 2nd round WR's better than Austin.....
but there are certainly going to be better WR options within the first 17 picks…and certainly better “value” WR’s in the mid rounds. They were smart to pass on Austin.
Actually they were dumb to pass on Austin......
They need starters, not 4 or 5th round projects….The Jets need defensive so I don’t see them drafting a WR there.
for once I agree with you
there is no WR in the draft better than Austin that the jets will be able to get in the second rd or beyond.
In Romo we Trust
the only thing that concerns me with Delmas
is his size and durability, much like Bob Sanders. If he was 10-15 lbs bigger and a little faster, I think he’s easily a top 15 talent.
In Romo we Trust
Yeah but if he ranked that high, there is no real way that dallas will get him
it is like saying if he was as good as Sean Smith, well then that takes him out of the picture for this draft.
Ignore the Mainstream Media, EMBRACE THE HATE!!!!
that makes no sense to me
as Delmas is rated as a better player than Sean Smith in every draft report I’ve read. Delmas is either the first or second rated safety and Smith is rated as 6th or 7th best CB.
In Romo we Trust
Too bad...
I wanted the 2nd rounder!
