Needing Advice on Game Tickets
I've never been to Cowboys game live :(
But that's gonna change this year :)
I know almost nothing in regard to the best way to get game tickets, etc. I'm a complete novice at this, and that's why I'm asking you guys for help.
Let me ask a few questions, and any advise you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
1) How many days ahead do I need to secure tickets?
2) What in the world is "seat option price" compared to "ticket price?"
3) Is traffic a huge problem? Should I get to the stadium an hour early? two hours, early? or what?
4) Are there "bad seats" that I should really shy away from? endzone seats? upper deck seat?
5) Are there pre-game or post-game events that I need to plan on seeing?
6) Are there hotels close to the stadium? within walking distance?
7) My family (including a 10 year old son) will be with me, are there areas for "family seating?"
8) Is the food in the stadium extremely expensive?
There are probably other questions I'll come up with later, but any info you can give will help considerably - thanks.

Main problem with your questions is..
New stadium, new location, unknown prices, etc. If it were me, I’d pick a game later in the season just to make sure they’ve got the bugs worked out as far as traffic and such. Also making the adjustments for the new stadium getting its’ kinks worked out. (Why I would never buy a first year model car). And I agree with jerryw above, stubhub is pretty good. On that site I would make sure you at least start dealing with a purchase a few weeks in advance. Also since this is your first game, I would arrive about 2 hours early at least (probably more) so you can soak in the experience. I’m pretty sure there are nearby hotels and they probably have shuttle buses if they’re not within walking distance. Make sure your family gorges before you go because I’m sure it’s pretty expensive to eat there (much less have a beer). Sorry I can’t answer all your questions and I’m going on memory for the most part.
I'm trying to lock in on that one, too.

Most likely, I'll be sitting with a Raiders fan.
And if he wears his DMAC jersey, I’m gonna have to get a Felix one.

the sites I've used in the past
are pro performance.com and ticket master, and I’ll probably use one of them this year as well.
I have no idea about parking or anything else about the new stadium since I’ve only attended games at Texas Stadium.

Living in Dallas, I think I can answer some of your questions
Even though the stadium is not yet open, I can already pretty much assure you that traffic is going to be pretty terrible. It’s already bad, and that’s before 70,000 people are trying to get to the same spot at the same time. I would probably try to get there 2-3 hours early as there is usually always stuff to keep you busy before the game starts.
Any hotels within walking distance are probably not somewhere you want to stay with your son. That area was pretty dilapidated and while I expect it to get nicer now that the stadium is built, I don’t think it has developed yet. But like was mentioned above, there are plenty of hotels around the I-30 and Hwy 360 area that will probably have a shuttle to get you to the stadium.
Finally, even though the stadium’s not open yet, food prices are generally pretty expensive, especially if you want a beer or two. I usually figure on $40 for two people.
Good luck and have fun, it’s a great experience!

My 2 cents
I have never been to a Pro Football game, much less a Cowboys game, but I also plan on going this year now that I will finally have finished my degree (still looking into a job with the organization). I have been to some baseball games though, and i would expect the prices of food to be the same, and it depends on what kind of food you are talking about (game food or restaurant food, either way expensive). Personally I’d get there a few hours early just to enjoy the stadium, and probably do a tailgate kind of thing outside while waiting for the doors to open.
Also, you can find tickets on Craigslist.com. Normally people are selling them a little cheaper there because they have season tickets through the company and from what I have seen are pretty good seats (if they are company season tickets) to whatever event it is.
And in response to an earlier post bout 70,000 people trying to get to the same location. In case you didn’t hear, this is now the biggest stadium, passing even washingtons 91,000 capacity with 100,000 seats. yeah, traffic will be an issue.
Another Question -
For you guys who have been to games before -
Would you rather sit closer to the field in the endzone?
Or, in the upper deck on the sides, near mid-field?
I have sat in the front row before
It’s cool because you are so close to the players but it kind of sucks as far as watching the game.
Your perspective is that of the players, and not like you are used to watching at home.
If I was on the lower level I would want to be at least 20 rows back to get a good view of the field.
The best seats I ever had was in the first row on the 50 yards line in the upper deck.
The upper deck gives you good view of the entire field
I went to StubHub after reading your post. Those people are asking crazy money for their tickets (and they’ll probably get it).
What would you consider
a fair market price for an upper deck seat somewhere between the 20 yard line and the other 20 yard yard line?
I dont think youll find a fair price
Since its a new stadium i bet all the good tickets will be pretty inflated in price, And you said thanksgiving and main deck tickets are going for around 275 a ticket the mezzanine are going for 225 and the upper reserve are anywere from 115 to 275 depending if you want endzone or 50 yard line.
I thank God everyday i wasnt born a Eagles fan!!!!!!
I just got my tics for the Oakland game
they are going for around $350 from the goal line around the corner of the end zones on the 2nd level.

Went to my 1st game last year, old stadium
and I have to say that being pretty high up wasn’t much of a problem. For instance, I’ve been at concerts where the band was a faraway dot…..But I felt I could follow the game well from where I was.
The new stadium may be bigger, but you’ll have that big screen! You’ll see replays anyways.
I think you’ll pay quite a premium for midfield seats.
Now, just make sure beforehand you don’t end up at a game like the Baltimore one one I had the ‘privilege’ to attend 8(

MID FIELD
You can always go up close before the game and see the players.
Honestly I don’t know how the new stadium is going to be, but at Texas Stadium my buddy has tickets near the 45 and it’s upper deck and you can see EVERYTHING picture perfect.
You want to be mid field, trust me.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
Yeah only problem with endzone seats
is you can’t immediately tell yardages at all. You see the back come through the line but it’s impossible to tell how many yards he’s gained, so you spend some of your time staring at the the jumbotron to see down and distance. Flip side of that is being able to pick up a sweet pass play or watching the line blocking. But AFBat is right, if you can afford it, head for midfield.
id love to be endzone to
help celebrate.. maybe get a ball thrown to me or pat a player on the back when he jumps up but i guess front rowish seats at endzone are really expensive so midfield prob sounds the way to go
What the French?! Toast!
I just purchased my tickets on BuyEvents.com
for the Oakland game on Thanksgiving and they were fairly reasonable, actually cheaper than the tickets I purchused for the Steelers game and the seats are pretty similar, section 205, goal line, Cowboys bench.

I had season tickets last year...
@ tx stadium and the parking opened up 4hrs before the start time and the Gates to the stadium 3 hrs before the game…….we sat in the end zone over the cowboys tunnel and i loved the view….

Sweet!
I like those seats; the view does look good from there.
I’d say that when the teams were on your end of the field, you see them REALLY good, huh?
Oh yeah....
That’s the play that “cricket” scored on..from the dec. game 08…

Isn't that the TD when Cricket hugged everybody?

You know
I think it would be great to see one game from the endzone and another game from the sideline.
I’ll have to try both now – you got me going – I can’t wait!!!
I watched a game from midfield (first level) in Seattle and I felt like a little kid--by seeing the players live.
Gave me a whole new experience.
Sucked that we got our butts whooped, but at least I got to see Darren Woodson in what would be his last season, and some drunk dude ran out on the field. Seachickens fans were buttholes, though.

20 yard line from sideline is the best I have sat and well worth it
It costs a little more if you go lower bowl make sure you are up a few rows the bottom is not very good even if you are close to the players. I payed 500 last year for my tickets so I don’t know what the new stadium will be like. Try Ebay as well if you trust it make sure you use paypal though.
Some last minute tickets could also be had on craigslist.org.

Thanks
I checked craigslist for the OAK game, but none are available at the moment
My biggest concern right now, would be my flights coming in from Richmond, VA are a lttle expensive and my wife lost her job 2 weeks before Christmas and hasn’t got another one yet – so things are a little tight with the cash.
Another Question
Should I expect a LOT of OAK fans to be there?
If I bought tickets on the visitors side, would I regret it, it will I still be surround by DAL fans?
Good question.
Personally, it ruins my fun sitting in enemy territory, but I’ve never been to a Dallas home game.
Because it will be Thanksgiving, I think that Darth Vader dude will be home slicin’ up the turkey, and those Demolition guys will wear their shoulder pads with the dull spikes.

Well, with that in mind...
I’d rather be on the Cowboys side surrounded by these jerseys
9, 23, 24, 28, 82, 94, etc.
I might have to wear my #22 or #33 on Thanksgiving if I go.

I sat in front of some loud/drunk/obnoxious COWBOYS fans on my Texas St. trip
so you never know.

Well, instead I could...
leave my wife and son at home and just take my girlfriend to texas for a couple of days…..haha….NOT!
My best advice for people going to games is to go to a division game
If you are going to spend the money spend the money on a game that is heated. I was at the Philly game last year on Monday night and would not trade it for the world or any other game. Philly fans are obnoxious and to see us win that game was the best thing I could have asked for. Division games definitely are a lot more exciting, I know this year the times they are scheduled are tough for people that work but it is worth it if you can take a friday and monday off and make it a four day vacation.
I agree
that the division games would be much better
With my schedule, I just happen to have the Thanksgiving week off – that’s probably my ONLY choice this year, sad to say
