Before I get too deep into this I want to know if anyone has any idea what our cap situation is and what Crayton and Boldin's current contracts are right now. It is very possible that this trade is not possible due to lack of cap space but still worth a blog I think.
Cardinals have just announced that they will LISTEN to trade offers for Anquan Boldin. Apparently they would be looking for something along a similar deal that we made for Roy Williams, although as the title states, I think there are other means. Although we may need to shop a pick form next year, possibly depending on his performance (like the Jets and Green Bay in the Farve trade).
Patrick Crayton is not nearly as good as Boldin, however, both of them have very sure hands, which is the key in why I chose Crayton. The 'Boys and Cards both retain players with sure hands. They get a second receiver to add and possibly make Dallas the greatest receiving tandem in football (if Austin pans out to be what we hope he is). Speaking of Austin, that is another reason to shop Crayton. This way we can still give Austin a shot playing in the slot, which might have been his role this upcoming season anyway. The only way to know for sure though would be to see how things pan out in camp and the preseason. We could still see what Austin can do and keep that deep threat on the field, (although Boldin is a fun deep threat to have too for Romo).
We would still need to draft a WR somewhere in the draft but would make it a little less important as we would have Williams, Boldin, Austin, Hurd & Stanback. Getting a guy like Mike Wallace to add some more speed onto this would be a great asset too, or Tiquan Underwood (who just needs some skill tuning and muscle, as he already showed that his physical abilities and fundamentals are among the best in the Draft).
Boldin still has a good 9 or 10 years left in him at least so we get to stay young. Again, the cap plays a huge role in this and I have no idea how this would pan out and Boldin is looking for a bigger contract, but with 2 years on his contract still, we could offer him one next year when all of that T.O., Williams and company money we dumped from our cap this year would come back. Of course re-signing Ware is still the most pressing issue on this team right now.
Biggest downside of this is the fact that we lose our punt returner and we need to find a new one. That could happen, but remember what happened the last time we did that with someone just entering (re-entering) the NFL (Adam Jones).
