Who would you Blame if Tashard isn't used correctly?
That's right, blame. If we don't use what he brings to the game, then we are fools (we being the Dallas Cowboys and fans). Just thinking of that gritty performance against the Steelers has me wanting round 2 with them, and this next time things won't go for the Steelers the way it did this last time. Oh no, things will be much different. That is, of course, we realize what a stable of running backs we have and use it to the max. I think we are gonna be more than fine, defenses are gonna be confused.
If Tashard is not used correctly (playing time, as well as an occasional start) then pity the fool. Pity the one who makes such a decision. And if the right mixture is to be used, then pity the defense.
Myself, I would put blame on Jason Garrett if the running game isn't used correctly. I know he is a passing type OC, but even he must get excited over a fierce run. So if he can't figure it out, then so be it. If he can, than the Cowboys offense will be lethal.
The real question must be answered- Who is driving this offense? Some (like myself) say T.O. drove this offense crazy with his need for the ball that the offense doesn't have that person to apply pressure on the offense to perform. My take is that it must come from Tony Romo and Jason Witten. Those are our leaders.

Absolutely
Same if Austin is not used correctly.
The OC should be hanged if he does not used the spares and back-ups to the liking of the common fan.

The "who" doesn't have to mean...
a person. It could be a scheme, a philosiphy, a team. I know it’s easy to point the finger at Garrett, but Tashard may not be able to get the touches even if Garrett wanted him too,

Carrot
and Choice deserves to get more playing time. He earned it, if our running game is utilized well, it’s something very exciting to look forward to next season.

Well
Flip the question around : Who are you going to give credit to if TC is used correctly?
The guy that pays him – Jones
The guy that drafted him – Phillips
The guy that played him – Garrett
The guys that blocked for him – OL
The guys that cheered him – fans
OR
The guys that announced his new website – BTB!
Answer: All of the above :)
Barber and Felix
Guy’s great, but he’s still the 3rd running back, and we still have a passing game, unless Roy and Miles happen to completely forget how to make plays.
I do think he’ll get more carries. But I don’t know if it’s going to be what some expect it to be. I think you have to go with who’s hot at the time. Sometimes it may be Barber, or Felix, or Choice.
I don’t buy into the notion that Dallas is going to deviate from it’s pass first offensive philosophy. They’ll likely be more balanced, but I don’t think we’re going to be a run first offense out of nowhere. That along with the fact that we have two other talented RBs ahead of him on the depth chart means Choice may still not get the carries we’d like him to have.

Ok Red Scare, since...
You’ve said these things and it hasn’t “scared” me at all in any way, shape, or form, your right- even if Tashard Choice is a better Back than either Felix Jones or Marion Barber, he still may not get as many touches as either RB.
What if there is another injury? What if Barber continually gets stopped for no gain or losses?
Felix is a back that does change the game. I love the fear factor he brings to the field. But can he be that “everydown” back we need, the back that is good for all situations, the “all-purpose back”?
My feeling is no. And we as fan’s should not want him to be, because we should value his talent. A tired Felix Jones in the 4th quarter that had gotten hammered all game would change your perception of him if you were on defense.
But Tashard Choice from Georgia Tech is a different kind of Back. The quintessential “All-Purpose” back, His play harkens to a time in Cowboy’s history when our running game was looked at by opposing defenses with fear.
I am constantly amazed at his ability to make something out of nothing.
Let me give you a little insight as to how the “opponents” think, and you’ll understand what I’m saying.
I live in NY, so obviously there are alot of Giant fans around. Alot of them dislike the Cowboy’s, others not so much. I’ve talked to alot of Giants fans about Tashard Choice, and the perception they have about his abilities. And my one friend who is very knowledgeable about the Cowboys said this to me and it made me wonder what we are doing-
“I’m not worried about Barber, I know our defense can stop him, but that Tashard Choice, he is pesky. He’s got something that I don’t like…”
First of all, him saying that “he did not like the something” that Tashard Choice had told me he had fear of his talent. I did not say anything, I just took what he said and thought about it, and I thought about it a long time. I wondered why he wouldn’t mention Felix Jones, and then it came to me- Both Giants games last year Felix Jones did not play in, so Giants fans are not even remotely aware of HIS talent or ability. “Rest assured”, I said to myself, they will find out about Felix Jones soon enough, and the hard way. But what would bring about such a perception between Barber and Choice?
I think Tashard has a “wiggle”, and an ability that alot of backs don’t have. He hits the hole fast, and has great awareness and “Vision”. I’m not saying that Barber isn’t important (on the contrary) or that Felix isn’t the “Cat”, because he is. Just thinking of how excited I am over the gritty performances Tashard Choice had last year against Baltimore, Pittsburgh, NYG, etc., has me thinking positively as a fan, and that is very important to me. I think, Red Scare, that we are blessed with this good problem at RB that we should not ruin by trying to make one RB better than the other, moreso just using them for the role they are best suited, and I personnaly want to see Barber hammer the opposition in the 4th quarter and control the clock, putting the game out of reach against our opponents. I know Carl (GloryDayz88) would disagree with me, and probably think that Barber should be out there the majority of time. But I would respond to him by saying "Why? Why would you want to shorten Barber’s career? Why wouldn’t you want to utilize the teams talent? Why wouldn’t you want to make sure Barber is used productively in the role he is best suited for? This is what opposing defenses would fear, the Cowboys having they’re act together, everyone knowing they’re role, having a purpose, and going out there workmanlike and getting the job done. it’s not one man, it’s a team. It’s not a matter of who the starting running back is. Personally, just to keep defenses guessing, I think Tashard Should start the game off in 3 games this year, and Felix Jones should start off the game in 5 of them. and Barber has the rest.

So you're ready to throw stones...
if the THIRD RUNNING BACK — and as much as I like him, Tashard is the 3rd back — isn’t used properly.
Step back and take a look at your threat. You’re ready to go thermonuclear if the team isn’t building game plans around the 3rd back.
So what’s “misusing him?” Why don’t you define what “using him properly” means before you go painting targets on people’s heads.
What’s proper use? How many carries per game? How many catches? How many touches?

I was being sarcastic
If you were talking to me.
I like Choice, but his role really hasn’t been defined. He’s certainly a different back than the other two, but when is the appropriate situation to use him? Felix is faster, and Barber more punishing. Both compliment each other well. It’s going to be tough to find a spot for Choice, unless another back goes down.
My only concern about the running game this year is Barber, and the potential for him to get worn down as the season goes on. I think Choice may very well find his role simply spelling Barber to make sure his legs stay fresh late in the 4th quarter.

Don't worry Red Scare, I knew...
you were being sarcastic. I was writing on behalf of defending Tashard and his abilities. Nothing I wrote was meant to belittle anyone, and nothing you wrote offended me. But I did want to write what I believe is happening, and for some reason Rafael Vela thinks I am painting targets on people’s heads. I am anxiously waiting to hear his response regarding his accusation….
And yes, i do take offense to what he is accusing. Right now, here in my City, we are recovering from the worst tragedy in the history of NY (maybe the country) in the American Civic Association shooting. For Rafael to accuse me of targeting people is sad and I await his response….

Throw stones Rafael? come on now- were we watching....
the same games last year? Anyone that knows me knows I’m pretty level headed about the Cowboys all the time, so that doesn’t even matter.
So I step back and look at my threat, and I see that I’m not ready to go thermonuclear over the team NOT building game plans around him. A smile seems to grow on my face though thinking about how productive he was during the crunch time at the end of last season.
What would make me go totally thermonuclear though Rafael is the offense totally dropping back and throwing the ball down the field repeatedly- Sound familiar? De-Ja-Vu? We all know how that turned out.
Misusing Tashard- That’s an easy one Rafael . You do remember the Steelers game right? How many successful screens did Tashard Have? Quite a few. The Steelers, though, refused to commit anyone to cover him, and when they did, the linebacker was late, and didn’t have any idea what to do to stop the screens. So naturally, the Cowboys, having success like that with the screens, did what Rafael? You want to tell me? Do you know what they did? Go ahead, say it.
They abandoned the screen, and went to forcing the passes. In the end, when that didn’t work (and after 2 interceptions) and the game had been gift wrapped and served to the Steelers on a silver platter, Romo/Garrett saw the screen was still there since the Steelers were giving it to us, and they went back to it, but only after the interceptions- in other words, a little to little, a little too late. I call that misuse. Why? Because if they were giving you screens all day, then you run the screen on them all day, especially since Tashard is so proficient at it.
Proper use- well, although that is open to debate, my take would be for him to get alot of touches in the early stages of the game, sprinkling Felix, and Then Hammer them with Barber. That would be my hope of how he would be used. This will also extend Barbers career.
Rafael-“What’s proper use? How many carries per game? How many catches? How many touches?”
DallasPalace- Do you need to ask what proper use is when Captain Carrot is our Offensive coordinator Raf? Let me remind you of what improper use would be- Constantly try to force passes into double coverage!
And why shouldn’t I get excited about a gritty player that plays with heart and seems to make something out of nothing on a consistent basis? There really wasn’t much else to get excited about the Dallas Cowboys last year. Laugh at me if you want Raf, Mock me if you will, but at least give me that. Barber did not inspire me enough last year, and Felix got injured.

I'm sorry Raf, what is it...
You mean that I’m ready to throw stones? i really don’t understand your use of the phrase in regards to my post. My post was not meant to be degrading to anyone whatsoever. Just my opinion, and if you want it in writing, then okay, I’ll write it because it’s my belief to.
I believe Tashard Choice to be just as important to our offense as Felix Jones and Marion Barber.
And I like him better so far. You can probably tell by the length of my posts that I feel strongly over the need to get him invovlved in the game.
I don’t understand your use of the term “Why don’t you define what "using him properly" means before you go painting targets on people’s heads.”
How in the world do you believe in anything I said that I was painting targets on anyone’s head? I really dislike what you are implying. Nothing I wrote in my post was in anger, degrading anyone, or meant to be that way. If it was taken that way, I apologize. But I just don’t see it. Just stating my opinion of what I saw and stating it like any fan would want to. If you believe that I painted targets on anyone’s head, then you must please explain to me how?

Get all three on the field at the same time...
Not all the time but how about a formation with Felix in the slot, Barber and Choice in a split backfield. Felix motions toward the backfield… Tony takes the snap and turns to hand off… Who you gonna key on? Barber up the middle, Choice off tackle or the pitch to Felix.
I’d love to see it…
Garrett needs to get a clue!

I do agree with BulletBob to some extent = not all 3RB's, BUT two RB's should be on the field at all times...eliminate the FB position completely...........
Either Felix an MB
Felix and Choice
Choice and MB
allows for added rush options….added pass protection…..added check downs…..plus MB can double as a lead blocker when / if needed..
it’s quite simple……and I’ve been preachin it for quite some time…
2 – WR’s,1 – TE, and 2 RB’s…
or
1- WR, 2 – TE’s, and 2 RB’s
play to our strengths….TE & RB
What if he puts up 23 points per game
and ends up 11-5; we win 2 playoff games but lose the conf championship?
He’s not gone!
lol.....he'll never get my endorsement...
way to think positive though..
Not trying to be funny
but I think that the playoff run or lack thereof has more to do with his being gone than the actual amount of points we average on offense
However, I am aware that the more numbers we put up, the more wins we’re likely to have, so I see your point
If
The offense is successful and everybody is involved to some extent then he is being used correctly. We have numerous playmakers of this team and correct usage is getting them all involved.
If this is Captain Carrot's last stand...
Then he may be lucky and “get it” finally, and our offense click. But in my book, that doesn’t mean an automatic “Head Coach” candidate moniker, that to me would be him just doing his JOB. nothing more. I just don’t know how much Captain Carrot inspires the players. That’s my biggest question. Only those close to the situation can speak to that fact.
