Jason Peters reported to be traded to Eagles. A look at the offseason in the NFC East: the tough is getting tougher.

ESPN is reporting that a deal that will send Jason Peters from the Buffalo Bills to the Philadelphia Eagles for a first rounder (#28) and fourth rounder in this upcoming NFL draft and a conditional pick in 2010. Also, it appears that Braylon Edwards (most likely) or Anquan Boldin will be wearing a Giants uniform soon.  What does this mean for the balance of power in the NFC East, I’m not sure, but it’s going to be the toughest division in football, no doubt about it.  What do you guys make of the offseason moves in the NFC East?

I'm okay with Peters going to Philly

I was more worried about trying to defend against Boldin and DesSean Jackson.

Ware can beat Peters off of the snap.

This is all Peters will hear in Philly

Cha-Ching, Whoosh, AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Cha-ching for the money he makes

Whoosh for every play against DeMarcus Ware rushing

And well, the last one is self-explanatory, its Donovan McNabb in pain.

Tony Romo off in dat hole, Watch roll and watch him throw, Watch him lead dem cowboys to the super bowl, now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys!

Buffalo sucks

How do you trade away a young Pro Bowl LT ?

And don’t trade him to the Iggles. This is payback from the 2 Super Bowls we beat them. Has to be.

I think its a fair trade

Its not like Peters exactly protected Edwards’ blind side last year.

Well after reading all the negative info on Peters

Maybe Buffalo did us a favor. I feel better.

depends on reid'splaycalling

Peters is a huge dude and a pretty good run blocker. If they do run the ball more, he could prove to be a worthy pickup for them. How many times have we seen DWare shut down the weakside of the line of scrimmage, specifically against philly? I don’t know if he’ll have as much success with Peters there.

by foyesboys on Apr 20, 2009 1:11 PM CDT up reply actions

not worried about it

because Ware can abuse any LT in the league

In Romo we Trust

by Terry on Apr 17, 2009 10:43 PM CDT reply actions

peters is a top 3 LT but they did give up alot

Peters was awesoem in 06-07 …in 2008 he was ave at bestgiving up over 11 sacks..he struggles against pass rushers like ware and osi…Tra thomas was a better pass protecter but peters a much better run blocker and overall a better LT…

Last year

PHI was ranked 22nd in rushing

Their pass / run ratio leans heavily to pass and I don’t see that changing much

For the offense that they use, I don’t really see Peters as a huge upgrade; may cost them a few more sacks

And if McNabb is injured by one of those sacks, they’re history

by BishopWest on Apr 17, 2009 11:50 PM CDT up reply actions

+1

Unless andy reid is changing his philosophy, I don’t see why they made this move.

by foyesboys on Apr 18, 2009 12:06 AM CDT up reply actions

Exactly.

It would be one thing if the Eagles were a running team but they’re not. Pass blocking is what they need the most because of how Reid runs their offense and Peters wasn’t very good last year.

If the Eagles

had made a trade for Boldin, I’d be a little more concerned, but a trade for Peters – ehh?……. umm?…….. NO!

He wasn't good because he finally had pass rushers to deal with like Joey Porter.

The guy has brute strength but his feet are awful and speed rushers abuse him.

I want to thank Andy Reid and Tom Heckert for DeMarcus Ware setting the record for sacks in 2009 with 42 in a season, 26 of them coming against the Eagles.

Nothing changes in Philly, Donovan will still be running for his life!

OOOOH! A Pro Bowl OT Peters is added to the team (relacing a much better Tra Thomas who was lost to the Jags). Peters was sent to the Pro Bowl in the seasons prior to this last one when he was eaten up by Joey Porter (new addition to the Dolphins).

Also he now comes from a division not known for sacks and pass rushing to the most sack happy division in the league, the NFC East. This man will be eaten alive. He also comes from a team that knew how to get to superbowls but lose every one of them (4 straight superbowl losses) which is quite laughable and sounds almost like another team I know (wink, cough, IGGLES!!) I can’t even wish Peters good luck, because he will need much more than that.

I

think that this trade helps them out a lot. But the NFC East pass rush is a lot better than the AFC East (even though Porter abused him.) I think Peters should be solid, but he’ll give up a few.

They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.

looking at the giants offseason

I think its difficult to see how they’ve improved. They lost butler and plax, gained boley, canty and bernard. The thing is, the moves are just as much provide depth in 2010, when robbins and cofield will be FAs, as for this year – 8 dlineman just can’t realistically see the field with significant playing time.

Interestingly, with dawkins, considine and butler leaving and the giants and eagles only signing C.C> Brown and Sean Jones….the safety play in this division could drastically worsen.

Granted, they both have a ton of picks, and the giants could trade for edwards or boldin which would definitely change my opinion of their offseason.

The draft is huge this year

whichever team fills their holes the best and the quickest has an immediate advantage.

This is the most underreported story of the NFC East offseason in my mind

Everyone thinks the giants will just switch coordinators without skipping a beat. Don’t count on it.

Jason Peters is like the RW trade

Just more expensive

I thank God everyday i wasnt born a Eagles fan!!!!!!

IMO

The Eagles should be the early favorite to be in the Super Bowl. Followed closely by the Giants, depending on how their wide receiver situation pans out. I mean, just look at these teams on paper, they are pretty stacked.

Luckily the games aren’t played on paper, and we should have a shot at making the playoffs, if things go our way.

by DoomsdayD75 on Apr 19, 2009 9:16 PM CDT reply actions

the eagles went 9-6-1 last year

and traded thomas for peters. And lost dawkins and considine. They really don’t have any safety play whatsoever.

The giants went like 2-3 or something without plax and have yet to fill is hole. They lost butler and brought in more dline depth that reinforces their position of strength.

Why exactly are these teams any better than us? The draft will have a lot to do with these teams’ success next year, cause they have some real holes. with dawkins, plax, TO leaving, this division will not be as good as it was last year.

by foyesboys on Apr 20, 2009 1:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Because

they have better offensive and defensive lines than us. Football games are won in the trenches.

The Eagles??LMAO.......yeah ok

signing a couple of OL doesn’t make you super bowl bound….

by Boyzfan94 on Apr 19, 2009 10:18 PM CDT reply actions

they almost made it last year

they almost make it every year, what’s so far fetched?

by DoomsdayD75 on Apr 20, 2009 11:12 AM CDT up reply actions

they went 9-6-1 last year

and have been slightly above average the last 4 years. They are not in any better position than us.

by foyesboys on Apr 20, 2009 1:16 PM CDT up reply actions

they

also destroyed us 44-6 in what was essentially a playoff game. We have no excuses for that.
