It's time to pimp your pet cat!

A pet cat is a Parcellism for a draft prospect that you have an unhealthy obsession for.  Given the fact that the NFL Draft (a.k.a. Christmas) is just around the corner I thought this was a good time for everyone to pimp their pet cats on one thread.

Even though I have never watched him play, my pet cat in this draft is ROGER ALLEN, a big powerful guard.  He is 6'3'' 326 lbs and benched the 225 38 times.  But most importantly is his last name is ALLEN!!!  Just like another big powerful guard who played for us once upon a time.

Anywho, apparently he is a good football player as well.  He is a fast rising prospect, and NFL Draft Scout gives him a very good grade

Here is a taste of his scouting report courtesy of NFLDC:

Run Blocking: Allen shows the loose hips and strong hand strike on contact to dominate the defender. He is a very good screen-and-wall off type who works hard to finish. He can punish his man when driving off his initial step and is a fine road grader who can drop his weight and drive through his blocks, thanks to above average leg strength. He is very good at using his hands to lock on (see 2008 Pittsburg State, Fort Hays State and Augustana games) and has a keen understanding for positioning. He has very good balance on the move, which is evident by his ability to land on second-level defenders. He will struggle with balance when he gets his base too narrow, but that is rare to happen. He displays good consistency in attempts to seal and wall off while working in unison with his center, showing ease of movement playing in space. When he gets position on a defender, he knows how to use his mass and hand punch to shock and jolt. He is also especially effective at gaining movement when he has an angle on people and works hard to maintain position and get movement at the point of attack. GRADE: 6.9

Pass Blocking: Having allowed just one sack in his last two years, Allen has done well in protecting his quarterback. He plays flat-footed and generates a strong anchor and power base. He uses his hands well to catch the defender and is quick to recover vs. counter moves. He has very good short area kick slide and hand usage, showing proper knee bend to quickly redirect. He is equally effective when anchoring and locking out vs. power as he is when sliding and adjusting to quickness. He uses his hands well to set and hold off on contact and has more than enough strength to anchor (could use more bulk for the NFL level). GRADE: 6.8

Character: Allen is a perfect mentor for the team's younger players. He has no known off-field issues and is the type that will play through pain. He communicates well with his teammates and staff and is highly respected by the organization. He is mature beyond his years and shows great responsibility, taking pride in his leadership ability. GRADE: 6.9

Compares To: BRIAN WINTERS, Kansas City -- Like Winters, Allen has been a model of consistency throughout his career. You can also see a little of Larry Allen (ex-Dallas and San Francisco) in his play, as he shows the same tenacity, brute strength and uncanny instincts to consistently be in position to lock on and control the defender. He is a true warrior who played part of the 2008 season with a shoulder injury that would sideline most others. With a weak crop of major college talent at this position, Allen could turn out to be the Cinderella story of the 2009 draft, especially since the shoulder injury that bothered him during 2008 was recently given a clean bill of health from renowned surgeon, Dr. James Andrews.

Star

Always wondered, is that the same Brian Waters we had in camp as a TE. I believe he was an udfa.

by oldboysfan on Apr 17, 2009 10:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know the Cowboys had him originally

I didn’t know he was a TE though. But yeah, Dallas could have had Brian Waters the multi-Pro Bowl Guard from KC as a part of their O-line. Another miss for us there.

Didn't Aikman tell him off one time??

I thought I watched an interview once where Waters was telling a story about how he went out there for a play and screwed up or something and Aikman yelled at him that if he didn’t know what he was doing then to get the hell off the field. Too bad we didn’t stick with the guy.

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

I can believe that

Aikman was great at getting on people as a motivation. Some guys don’t deal with that well. I’m pleased Waters did well. I wish it had been with us. OOOPs

Ha-Ha-Ha. Yeah, Brian Winters was the bearded shooting guard for the Milwaukee Bucks back in the day!

Draft Nick Reed. Draft Nick Reed. Draft Nick Reed. Say that fast, five times!

by Aaron Novinger on Apr 17, 2009 11:34 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have 2 main ones in this draft

Both are underdogs, but I can’t figure out why

Mark Parson (CB):

This dude is short, but he’s speedy, has mad ups, and has cat like quickness. He’s a stand up guy who loves the game from everything I’ve read on him. The kind of guy Dallas really could use. How he’s not a top prospect corner this year I’ll never understand. He wasn’t even invited to the combine. What’s worse, is he’s near the bottom of draft boards if he’s on them at all. If he came to Dallas, I bet he’d make a strong push for that 2nd corner spot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQna3hFO3A4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qynoJD310W0

Jarett Dillard (WR):

Ok so this guy isn’t the fastest WR you’re gonna find in the draft, nor the tallest, but he, like Parson, has ridiculous ups. He could probably come down with a jump ball over R. Moss (no joke). His routes are just amazing to watch. The guy is so quick out of his breaks, and can stop on a dime. Just incredible, and to me would blow Crayton right out of the slot IMO, probably immediately.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vaF3icwflI

It’s these type of players I really hope Dallas focus’s on during the draft. Both are very dedicated players who are never satisfied with their game. Both seem very genuine and want to succeed at the next level. Because they are considered under dogs, and because they both have the drive and determination, I believe they both will.

by sublimezg on Apr 17, 2009 10:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I think Dillard will be a very good slot receiver in the NFL

In regards to Parson, when you are 5’8 1/2’’ you will be at the bottom of a lot of boards. Odds are CB’s that small won’t do well in the NFL, but his 38’’ vertical should help him though, but it’s still nothing great.

Dillard however makes up for his lack of size with his vertical of 42’’ and his great leaping ability.

Draft Nick Reed. Draft Nick Reed. Draft Nick Reed. Say that fast, five times!

by Aaron Novinger on Apr 17, 2009 11:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i can't.....depends, who I want chosen first at #51 ? or just a guy i'm just pulling for to beat the odds being selected later on ?

I’ll have to go to the starting positions I feel are most likely up for grabs shortly…LG , ILB, and SS:

LG- Duke Robinson
WILB- Jason Williams
SS- William Moore

Sleepers I’m pulling for being drafted by the Cowboys:

Nick Reed – ILB/OLB
Sammi Lee Hill – DL
Vaughn Martin – DL

Player I feel has the most upside in the draft, and may be there for us at #51:

Conner Barwin – OLB / TE / ST <——saves a roster spot….designated 3rd down pass rusher / H-Back- 3rd TE / Special Teams star.

by My_2_Cents on Apr 18, 2009 12:11 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Vaughn Martin would be a great 6th/7th round pick

then we can just put him on the game day inactives next year and let him develop. He is sort of a boom bust type prospect. Great measureables, but really raw.

by quincyyyyy on Apr 18, 2009 12:13 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is how Vaughn Martin won me over.....

sure he’s raw, but 6’3" 330lbs powerhouses don’t grow on trees….He’s a legit 330 compared to that fat slob Ron Brace….

Check this guy out : I love it !

That's a cool vid

but Martin won’t be pushing through wimpy scouts on his way to the QB

He’s got to get pass guys like BIGG

by BishopWest on Apr 18, 2009 12:28 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Besides his size and power you got to love his quickness and lateral agility

his 3 cone was 7.28 and his short shuttle was 4.31. That is crazy for a dude that is 330. He is exactly the type of guy you draft in the later rounds to develop.

by quincyyyyy on Apr 18, 2009 12:31 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I want Martin as well...

he is a big boy and I think he is only 20 years old as well, being that he is a redshirt sophmore, he might be 21 but if he does pan out he could solidify that position for a long time

I like it

I am a big fan of Barden right now in the Draft and would love to see him here. Brandon Tate I think is definately going to be a Cowboy (A great Slot receiver that will most likely replace Crayton on Punts and Austin on KR.)

I wonder where Patrick Chung is in the strong safety Market on here (although i like Delmas and Moore a lot for safeties as they are better pass coverage guys.

Tony Romo off in dat hole, Watch roll and watch him throw, Watch him lead dem cowboys to the super bowl, now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys!

I think he’s going to be real good, if we draft him in the third round I’ll be ecstatic!!!
Also, reflects what I think of the rest of our OLB’s. Thanks Tuna for Spencer and Carpenter (note the sarcasm) and Ellis is getting old.

i guess i just feel like that when you play the 3-4 the ILB's

have to be pretty strong and athletic, Zach Thomas overachievers are going to always have a bit more of a hard time imo. Also, I’d prefer drafting an athletic linebacker because I think we need someone to fill Burnett’s role and that person is not currently on the roster. I’m not certain Brooking is a three down player (even if he turns out to be he’s not going to be around forever), and can we cut Carpenter already. Not sure Spencer will amount to much either. For all you, JJ drafts bad the Tuna solved our draft problems, the Tuna hit on one of three first round OLB’s and we might not have gotten DeMarcus because the Tuna wanted to draft Spears with that pick

by The Triplets on Apr 20, 2009 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

While McKillop isn't super athletic

he is super strong, and is just a football playing dude to use a Parcellsism.

If we take a guy like Brinkley, I’ll be okay with it, but I know what McKillop brings to the table and its about 10 tackles per game and he’s not too shabby in pass coverage either.

Lee Robinson

from Alcorn State, check him out at draftguys.com, he dominated the FCS ans will become a force in the big leagues. He is a 3 down LB that we can get in the fifth round.

by nicholas.rodriguez on Apr 18, 2009 8:12 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Also Brandon Tate

I can’t say enough how much he will help our PR, he averaged 26 yards per punt. if he can half that total in the NFL he would be right near the top. Also it would prevent “fair-catch” Crayton to just receiver duties

by nicholas.rodriguez on Apr 18, 2009 8:14 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I've got a couple guys I'd be happy with us landing..

Every draft, there are usually about a dozen guys I’m hoping for, and I’m typically not happy with a draft unless we land at least one or two of them. Fortunately, in some recent years, we have.

This year I’m hoping for guys like Ramses Barden, Louis Delmas, Darcel McBath, Vaughn Martin, Duke Robinson, Phil Loadholt, Fenuki Tupou, Herman Johnson, Jarron Gilbert, Jasper Brinkley, Frantz Joseph, and Sherrod Martin

I’m hoping we use extra late picks to move up, since there’s a decent crop of guys that should fall between the 2nd and 4th round this year.

Brandon Swain - West Texas A&M

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh…don’t tell anybody and just hope Ciskowski has him listed somewhere in the 5th.

I also like Darren Banks, the CB out of West Liberty, but he’s not an unknown because of his (gulp) TEN picks last season. 5’11" 180 and runs a 4.4? Ooh…

Conner Barwin OLB – #1 overall in my dreams of our draft, but probably not happening.

Duke Robinson G – good chance we have a shot, set for the next 5 to 10 seasons at LG.

Jasper Brinkley ILB – please, please, please get this guy Jerry

Jarrett Dillard WR – Steve Largent JR

Otis Wiley FS/SS – can return punts as well, plus I can yell “Otis, my man!” when he makes a play.

I'd rather have Sidbury

but Barwin would be great too. Also, I think we have a better chance of landing Sidbury, because I think it’s likely that Barwin’s gone by the early 40’s. He’s also somewhat stiff in the hips, though I tend to think it doesn’t matter because if Greg Ellis can play that position, Barwin or Sidbury should definitely be able to.

If Barwin gets into the second you have to trade up for him

he has so much versatility. He can play OLB in a 3-4, and I bet he could play ILB as well. You can also use him on offense as a H-back/TE. He is definitely one of the most intriguing players in the draft.

I'M Sooo CONFUSED

The video you guys have posted have been great. It’s totally messed up my own draft board so many times that I’m wearing out the delete button. But here are some players that I would like.
Max Unger C preferred won’t be at 51 take Shipley much later and Robinson here
Dalmas S preferred won’t be at 69 take Chung or Johnson or McBath
Lang OT preferred at 101 or Phillips ILB
Shipley if we didn’t get Unger
McGee QB at 156 or Dilliard WR I think McGee is the one I’d like to get most .
Taylor NT at 172
Turner Wr at 208 if we didn’ t get Dilliard at 156

 Trade the rest.

by oldboysfan on Apr 19, 2009 10:15 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I like him too,

but i think that if he’s drafted any earlier than say the mid forties, it’s a reach. Having pops be a wide receiver coach is great and all, but he’s not going to be a game changer. In fact, I guess my thing with him is, has he already hit his ceiling? and if so how good a pro does that make him, a sure handed version of Patrick Crayton? thoughts? (don’t get me wrong though I’d like to get him at 51, I’m just playing the devil’s advocate a bit)

by The Triplets on Apr 20, 2009 2:33 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

agreed, i guess i just wonder

what type of ceiling do he has? or is the fact that his floor is pretty high the point? don’t get me wrong I really would like to see Robiskie wearing the star, it’s just that I think he’ll solid but probably not great, except he’s great in the fundamentals department which might be the most important, so point taken. Also, his effectiveness would depend on whether Austin can stretch the defense, because I don’t think Robiskie or another reciever on our current roster can do that (ok Stanback has the potential to, but I don’t think he’ll see the field)

by The Triplets on Apr 20, 2009 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Robiskie certainly won't be a star

but he more than likely will be a very good NFL receiver, and thats all you can ask for in a 2nd rd WR.

I will

trust Jerry and Co. To evaluate talent better than me at this point. We can discuss all the players we want and need till we are blue in the face, but after the last couple of drafts and the production we have gotten, I will let them evaluate the talent. I will sit back and see if what they do agrees with who I think should get picked. My particular cat is Graham Harrold, but by my SN you could have guessed that. I like his poise, confidence and willingness to stand in the pocket while there is a storm of bodies roiling around him. That is the one thing he has I don’t think you can teach. i don't want Dallas to draft a qb

if we sign Harrell as an undrafted free agent then fine, but imo he’s not going to make it and if we draft him before the 7th round, it’ll be a major waste

by The Triplets on Apr 20, 2009 2:21 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think Robinson is....

THAT overrated. He might be slotted a little higher than he should, but he could be a solid lineman.

But you’re right, there should be.

I'm thinking Robinson doesn't get drafted Saturday

we’ll see, but from what I’ve been reading, his stock is dropping.

by Terry on Apr 20, 2009 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

What is pushing his stock down?

The boards I trust have him pretty much settled in at anywhere from 50 to 55.

I would be extremely happy to get him with our second pick (currently #69) if he did fall to day 2.

his lazy work ethic

plus the fact he can only operate in a phone booth. Robinson is no where near the prospect of Mack, Unger and Wood, all of whom will definitely be drafted ahead of him, and in this years weak interior OL class, I can’t see 4 interior OL going in the first 2 rds.

But like I said, we’ll see, I could be wrong, you never know on draft day.

by Terry on Apr 21, 2009 7:39 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not in disagreement about Mack, Unger, and Wood

They should all go before the end of the 2nd. But it’s a stronger than usual group.

But I think you’ve bought into the negative hype surrounding Robinson too much. Hey, if he’s not taken in the first day, I’d hope Jerry moves to the top of the 3rd round for him.

Lazy work ethic and limited to phone booth sounds like the draft guide speak for we don’t know what to list under the negatives. The guy is a beast.

We shall see soon enough.

1) hard worker
2) smarts

If Robinson lacks work ethic, he may not be as high on DAL’s board as he is on your’s.

toss in his 12 reps at 225lbs...and you got yourself an overhyped marginal talent in a very weak Free Safety class...

If you really want a ball hawking playmaker playing centerfield…you look at CB’s that are proven coverage guys against WR’s, with the size and physicality to play the FS position in a deep coverage scheme…guyz like:

Sean Smith- Utah (24-58)
Jairus Byrd- Oregon (42-72)
Victor Harris- Viginia Tech (54-104)
Sharrod Martin- Troy (48-90)
Keenan Lewis- Oregon St.(80-120)
Bradley Fletcher- Iowa (96-150)
Glover Quin-New Mexico (125-175)

Everone of these CB’s-players is better at covering receivers than FS’s – L Delmas, R Johnson or D McBath..PLUS they can play special teams(some even return punts), AND play nickle/dime CB in a dime…..it’s about getting the most value out of each pick, and what can they bring to the team immediately…

I’d take a Macho Harris in the late 3rd round over Louis Delmas in the mid 2nd round all day, every day…he’s just as/if not more physical in the run game, and a better coverage guy, and he’s a dynamic punt returner….this is a no brainer my friends…it’s about value….

by My_2_Cents on Apr 22, 2009 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I really like Keenan Lewis.

I almost put him in my mock. Couldn’t fit him in with my other “pet cat’s”. LOL. He’s a real sleeper that’s starting to get some pub. He doesn’t have all the physical tools you want in a CB but he’s a prototype FS. Great instincts. Smart player. Would love to hear his name called in the mid rounds for us. He lost all the creatine weight from the Combine and is back at his playing weight. Increased his vertical by 5 inches at his pro-day.

April 25-26 -- NFL Draft

by APerfectStar on Apr 22, 2009 5:09 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

what we should do is move down from 51...IF several of our targeted players are still available, or gone already...

RD2) move down to like 60….maybe pick up an extra late 4th rounder…ok….pick 60- ( SS-Will Moore?)

RD3) get to #69, trade down again about 5 spots, pick up an extra 5th maybe ? pick 74- (OLB-Lawrence Sidbury?)

RD3) ok…now shop our #117, obtained 4th rd, plus a 6th rd to a team at,say pick 80 – ( ILB-Jason Williams?)

RD4) pick 104 – (OC – Andre Caldwell ?)

RD4) ok…..take 2- 5th rounders and move up into the mid 4th, say pick 125 – ( NT- Sammie Lee Hill ?)

RD5) (OG- Roger Allen ?)

RD5) (QB- Nate Davis ?) compensation pick

Trade both 7th rounders to move up to late 6th round, say pick 200 – (WR/PR Johnny Knox)

RD6) (CB/PR- Joe Burnett ?) compensation pick

There you go ….the closest I’ll come to a final mock draft….read it and weep…

by My_2_Cents on Apr 22, 2009 11:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'd be fine with that scenario

As long as they don’t reach for a guy, they have a good shot at getting the 3 to 4 future core players in that 3rd to 5th round area, and also put some 2010 picks into their pocket for next year.

lol....I guess it's tough to be rated any higher than #1 OG in the draft....

that term “overrated” is so loosely thrown out there it’s absurd….If a team needs a OG (like we do) then drafting the top OG in the draft is not reaching for an overrated guy…He is ranked among the top 60 players no matter how much you may want to go another direction…pretty tough to label a 2 time all american overrated.

we shouldn't draft Robinson imo unless

he’s there in the first round and there aren’t any higher rated defensive players on our board like Lawrence Sidbury, Patrick Chung, maybe Darcel McBath. Also I’m not sure that Robinson plays to his size. like others have said, I think he’s a bit overrated, but in the third he’d be a good value

Mike Thomas

WR – Arizona

Deadly punt returner and dynamic receiver. I have seen this guy in person a couple of times and he is something else. I read the other day that he is the most underrated player in the draft. I think he would be a great fit in the 4th or 5th rounds. The great thing about him is that he is a polished route runner and can get on the gameday 45 as a special teamer.

The only real issue with him is he is short for a receiver at 5’ 9" or 5’ 10" but we have seen small receivers bite us in the a$$ before.

my only question is how the cowboys feel

about shorter wide receivers. I like Mike too, but I don’t know if it’s realistic to think we’ll go for a smaller receiver (though I’m not going to make an argument about why not for them).

Agree on Thomas

PR/ KR/ Slot WR fills needs, would be an asset to the team. Middle 4th round might be his price tag.

He’s small, but fearless about running routes across the middle. The new rules about hitting WR’s resulting from that Wes Welker bone rattler might help the smaller WR’s have safer careers.

Khalif Mitchell DT ECU in the 7th round

Prob a DE for the Cowboys, at 6’5" seems a little tall for NT, centers and guards might be able to get underneath him.

Injuries were an issue his Sr. year but when he is healthy he is impressive.

When you watch him film of McKillop looks so slowwwwwwwww. He’s a good college player because he knows how to dissect plays and take good angles, but he doesn’t knock the stuffing out of people with all that strength, he drags them down.

I disagree

I watched Scott for the last 2 years live in person and he never looked slow to me for an ILB.

The bottom line with McKillop is like with Delmas, his football instincts are completely off the chart, he simply knows how to play the position, ALWAYS in a position to make the play and those are the types I want on my team.

He's a smart hard working player by all accounts

I would be happy if they snagged him. I just think he doesn’t have the natural athletic ability of some of the other players, but I’ve only watched him a couple times, so you have more to go on. At worst, he’d be a very solid backup, so he’s a safe pick.

That I believe will BOTH make an impact…

Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Tate.

Nicks Looks like Michael Irvin
(sorry Grizz, first few plays vs Ga Tech!

Tate is Da Man
I can’t help thinking Tate could be this year’s best rookie WR… the knee is supposed to be healed, the pot stuff is not good but GREAT for our chances of STEALING him with a 5th. And once he’s here, you’re all gonna just LOVE watching him.

I agree we need to focus on middle D and offensive line with our first 2-3 picks… why Tate makes more sense than the rising Nicks.
