Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Ramble on

Alright, so I got a little crazy getting my mock draft ready (so many options beyond #6 this year that it is tougher than normal) and that generally leads to mischief.

I began thinking about how to better the NFL and came up with some ideas;

First, I believe instant replay has slowed the game down and I want to see the refs take back the calls. But then again, I also want accountability if the refs make a really horrible call. I can't screw up at my job continuously and not be fired, how come they can?

I also think the draft is screwed up. I think we should have the worst team pick first but let the Super bowl winner pick at #32 and #33, thus reversing the order of the picks in each round.

Finally, I think the Salary cap for each team should be based on how much money each team brings back in revenue, not an equal # of dollars for crappy marketers and crappy fans.

How would you change the NFL?

Making a statement

Not only will the Cowboys tie it back up with the Steelers again this year, but we will be the first to reach 7 super bowls.

AT THE SAME TIME AS REACHING #7 WE WILL ALSO BE THE FIRST TEAM IN HISTORY TO WIN THE SUPER BOWL IN OUR HOME STADIUM!!!!

And not only that, but doing it the first time the super bowl was held in our City.

How ’bout DEM cowboys!!

Tony Romo off in dat hole, Watch roll and watch him throw, Watch him lead dem cowboys to the super bowl, now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys!

New franchise is hillarious. lol. Refs are going to err, it just takes longer with video. I like dropping the video and holding them accountable.

The draft is messed up. Not so much the order of picking as the cost of the first round unproven players. It’s one thing to pay a proven pro big money. But the risks to early first round teams, can sink a franchise for years in salary cap hell should the player be a bust. There has to be a better way to get rookies the money they deserve if they play well and not get burned too badly if the player is just a bust.

Thanks

Sadly, the Eagle fans don’t seem to think so.

Can you blame them for being bitter?

They love to come over here as trolls but they can’t take it on their site. You know the truth has to hurt.

Has the NFL rectified crappy division winners getting to host playoff games?

I thought something might have came up during the offseason meetings to at least put it to a vote. At any rate, I think a division winner should at least have a winning record to qualify to host a playoff game.

Also, full-time younger officials.

Not these old guys whose full-time job is as lawyers. That’s why it always rings hollow to me whenever someone wants to give these guys a break after their umpteenth blown call. Look, most of them are fairly well-off professionals. They’re not going to starve if they get relieved of their duties. Officiating is more of a hobby for them than an actual profession.

They say your vision gets worse when you turn 40

These guys are 50+

I don’t get it.

Lol

I am all for having Officiating being a full time job for the guys. the Nfl makes enough to pay an official enough money so that officiating isn’t a full time job, and if it is a full time job the officials will be able to keep in better shape and have time to study the game to make the correct decision when it is on their shoulders.

In case you missed it...here is what I proposed

Hope Springs…Eternal? by 5Blings on Apr 18, 2009 11:08 AM PDT 10 comments, 2 new

Being an Eagle fan is character building. It has to be. Forty-something Lombardi trophies and nothing to show for it. They say, what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger, but, does it?

My friends,

I’m not an Eagle fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I know that too many of you have had to bear the burden of rooting for a team that never fulfilled their promise to its fans. I for one, believe you have all suffered for far too long.

So, I have brokered a deal. A deal in which all of the pain and suffering of the generations of Eagle fans can be purged as if it were an illness cured by a wonder drug. A deal in which you can join legions of other fans who’ve also known similar travails and hardships such as yours.

The deal is this;

I propose a combining of two franchises with storied histories of losing in the hopes of creating a new, clean slate from which to build a loyal foundation of fandom. One free of the pain and suffering long felt by the fans of these two poor, suffering organizations.

Now, it is important that we all keep an open mind to the notion of change as change is critical in times like these. Change can bring new hope and life to a moribund fan base whose hopes and dreams are dashed year in and year out.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls…I present to you the next great NFL franchise;

The Cincidelphia Beagles!!

Yes! That’s right, a combining of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Philadephia Eagles! While there are still minor details to work out, like where the new stadium would be located aand such, there are some great opportunities we could capitalize on.

For instance, the mascot. You’ll all be really happy to know that I have worked out a deal with the crew over at Peanuts and they have allowed the new franchise the use of one of America’s favorite characters as our new team’s mascot. You guessed it…

Snoopy!!!

Cant you just imagine the new helmets with a menacing image of none other than America’s favorite beagle snarling at the opposition? I know, I get chills too!!!!!

But that’s not all! The team colors would blend the red and green of the two previous franchises and the new team uniforms would have an ‘every day is Christmas’ look and feel to them. And don’t we know how much our fans love good ol’ Santa!?!

There are plenty more surprises in store for the new franchise and I’m just happy that we could finally put an end to the pain and suffering of Eagle fans by dissolving the franchise and moving forward with a fresh start.

No thanks neccessary all, I’m happy to help.

Oh come on...

Beagles are so cool.

Besides, the NFL has tons of cats and birds. Why diss the canine crowd?

Yeah

Something about “The Super Bowl Champion Beagles” just sounds wrong, don’t it?

Firstly the referees should be full time professionals, as it is in most other high level sports.

Also I would get rid of the divisions, but keep the conferences. Each season every team would play the 15 other teams in their conference, and the team that finished in the same position as them from the other conference.

Red and Black!! Red and Black!! Red and Black!! Congrats boys first time in team history over .500

Hey

Thats a good idea. So many positives. Easier scheduling, easier to figure home field for the playoffs and much less nonsense about strenghth of schedule since everone plays everybody in the conference. I’m sure the NFL could find ways to complicate it, but it sounds good.

by oldboysfan on Apr 19, 2009 9:21 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i've thought about this too

the problem is that you lose the bigtime rivalries in the nfc east, nfc north, afc west.

but overall i think i prefer this idea. a 15 game round robin + 1 or so out of conference would be pretty fair imo. No more seeing teams like seattle get in on a weak schedule or Arizona getting in after laying down and taking a month long beating in december.

Well, they finally decided they couldn't take anymore...

Bleeding Green Nation decided to avoid the discussion about the Beagles.

Too bad, though. I had lots of Bengal fans interested.
