Grading the NFC East Draft
Immediately following the 2009 NFL draft, football analyst, coaches, and arm-chair quarterbacks will give a draft grade to all 32 teams.
We all read them and either agree or disagree.
Truth is, a draft class shouldn't really be graded until about 3 years later.
So maybe now we can actually give an accurate grade to our 2006 Draftees. Potentially, each player has had 3 years to develop and produce for his team.
Following is a list of each player drafted in the NFC East in 2006. The stats that follow their names represent their 2008 season.

What grade would you give each NFC East team for its 2006 draft, in 2009?

There is not one player in our draft that I couldn’t live without. It’s sad when Watkins is the most productive player in our draft. Carpenter has busted so far but has a chance this year to turn it around. Fasano wasn’t that good when given the chance to start last year with Miami. McQuiston is still a project but its unlikely he does anything. I thought I saw Green return a punt in a game but maybe it was just preseason.
What makes it even worse is that the other 3 teams got at least a couple good players in the draft. The Eagles got Bunkley, Gokong, Giles, Avant and Gaither the Giants got Kiwanuka, Kofield, and Whimper and the Redskins got Dought and Golston.
This draft is part of the reason why we have issues at some positions. You can’t have drafts where not even one player develops into even a good role player. You would like to get one starter per draft but that doesn’t always happen. You are happy when 4 or 5 players that you drafted see the field as a rookie and play meaningful time. We didn’t get one of those players.
We need another draft like last year
to make up for it, so I’m praying they make the right moves.

The most disappointing thing about Carpenter
Is that Big Bill reached about 12+ spots to get him – most pundits had him barely scrapping into the first round. To pick him at 18 was such a waste.
"Where's Woody? - We need another Darren Woodson
That's pretty depressing Bishop
Even Washington drafted better than we did and they have a really special owner. The really sad part is that those are not exceptional drafts. The other teams in the division only got what would be considered nornal contributions from the players they picked.
A new day is dawning. Last years draft was a good one for the Cowboys. The off season moves although not splashy were solid. One more good draft to get another shot of youth on the team and things will be good. I sure hope Jerry notices that very little contribution came in the 7th round and trades them and the 6th except for the compensatory pick.
Very good information Bishop. Well reseached as usual. Thanks
The Eagles draft
while still better than ours it’s worth pointing out that Gaither and Max Jean Giles, while getting some earlier starts and PT were both benched this past year and are sliding down the depth chart.
Parcells was way overated draft wise, great 2005 class, and a few very very bad drafts. SO FAR JJ has done well without them in that department
but the funny part is he's not new
if we would have just followed his board in 2006, we would have had a great draft.
In Romo we Trust
I think is was 555 sacks. All to Osi Uminyora

Everyone has bad drafts
Pick out the team you think drafts well and I can point out mistakes in all rounds. Parcells found our starting QB without drafting him and showed the patience to develop him for 4 years and found our starting RB in the 4th round.
He built the talent base we enjoy now. I agree Carpenter was a bust but how about Sinorice in the 2nd or Bunkley in the 1st. Neither one has lived up to their draft position. Six in one hand, half a dozen in the other
+1
There aren’t a lot of Polians and Piolis out there.
I am optimistic about Ciskowski. If they stay close to his board and don’t fall in love with a player (C’mon Stephen, don’t let dad screw it up), this too can be a great draft with some more mid-round steals a la Orlando Scandrick.

Polian's 2006 draft-everyone has bad drafts
1. Laurence Maroney
2. Chad Jackson
3. David Thomas
4. Garrett Mills(Tulsa RB, same round we picked up Barber)
4. Stephen Gostkowski
5. Ryan O’Callaghan
6. Jeremy Mincey
6. Dan Stevenson
7. Willie Andrews
Thanks for the minutia
You understand my point hopefully
of course, just pointing out the correction
as I’m sure Colts fans would be pretty offended by that…lol
In Romo we Trust
I bet I can find a draft just like that for them too though
but you’re right

Colts have drafted pretty solid since Polian was their GM
which is the reason why they have been one of the best teams over the last several years.
In Romo we Trust
Was it that bad?
Maroney is a good back.
David Thomas is on the team and contributes.
Gostowski is their kicker and has fared well.
O’Callaghan is a keeper.
We’ve had drafts JJ/Lacewell era where we’d have done better throwing darts at the draft board.
"Well, we didn't block real good but we made up for it by not tackling."

Maroney is a stiff, I hate him. I had him once in Fantasy football. Biggest mistake EVER.

Maroney
has been god awful in fantasy. He was ok his rookie year, but since then it has been terrible. I have no clue what happened to him last year. He had an injury I guess, but I don’t even remember him ever playing.

No one answered it
The best grade would have to go to the Giants. I am a cowboys fan but I love football overall so I know quite a bit about other teams and they have the most people on that team coming from that draft that I have actually heard of or that they have constantly made mention of. Most likely the most contributing players in the draft for the NFC East that year.
Tony Romo off in dat hole, Watch roll and watch him throw, Watch him lead dem cowboys to the super bowl, now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys, Now watch me "yua!" crank dat cowboys!

I'd take
the Eagles draft over the Giants. Bunkley is a talented young DT and Avant is becoming a pretty good receiver. Gaither was also a fine choice, considering he’s had a good amount of playing time.

Just imagine
If only we had taken Devin Hester and not Skyler Greene. they were the top 2 in the draft for kick returns, and we got the wrong guy while the bears drafted the right guy. Imagine Devin Hester and Felix Jones returning kicks for us. But we can’t change the past, but its fun to imagine something that might have been.

I'd grade them like this...
Eagles – B-
2 are starters and should be around for a long time (Bunkley, Gocong), and 3 others have already made significant contributions and provide nice depth (Avant, Gaither, Jean-Gilles). Trading up to get Justice looked great at the time, but his performance in ONE game will always provoke the name “Osi Umenyiora” whenever Justice’s name is brought up – Being THAT remembered for one performance is a difficult feat.
Giants – C
Kiwanuka would start on at least 25 NFL teams, but not the Giants with their ridiculous D-Line. Still, he’s a good pass-rusher and gives the G-Men some scary depth at DE. Cofield is in the same situation as Kiwanuka – nice player too, although he like won’t start this year either, and gives them insane depth along the D-Line. The rest of this group is junk.
Redskins – D
Golston and Montgomery were nice finds as backups in the 5th and 6th rounds, and McIntosh has become a solid starter, but in typical Redskins fashion, they didn’t have very many picks (and no 1st rounders).
Cowboys – D-
Difficult to find something nice to say. Watkins was actually an upgrade over Roy Williams when he got hurt, and McQuistan is OK as a 7th rounder… but this is a pretty ugly group. This class is as bad as the 2005 class was good.
I like our class over washingtons
just cause we traded fasano doesn’t mean he didn’t turn out to be a good player.
Still, I give us a Dplus, washington a D
Giants added some quality front 7 depth that draft, I give them a C
Eagles had by far the best draft. I give them a Bplus.
2005 & 2008
That’s two really good drafts in a span of 4 years.
0 = The number of Super Bowls the Eagles have won.
Foxsports...
had an article that did a grade over the last 6 years. It was pretty good, with everyone of the NFC east teams getting good grades besides Washington.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
lol
Yeah I think you actually have to draft players to get a good grade.
