How Do You Spend Draft Day?

Am I the only loser who goes all out and watches all 20+ hours of draft coverage? I was just wondering if anyone else is as obsessed as I am.

Like most years, I'm gonna go see if the liquor store will let me buy a whole flat of King Cobra. I usually have a Super Bowl-like party, but this year I'm just gonna have a few friends over, tie one on and bask in the glow that is the NFL Draft. I couldn't find a baby-sitter this year, so the kids will be home. They'll probably be busy playing "scissor-tag" in the middle of the street, so they won't bother us.

Just wanted to know what other people do on draft day, if you do anything special at all.

There’s a 10 minute time limit on drafting a player in the first round. Let’s say the average time taken for each team in the first round is 8 minutes. I think the time limit for teams to pick in the 2nd round is 7 minutes. Let’s say the average time there is 5 minutes.

First round – 8 minutes * 32 first round picks = 256 minutes, or 4:26.

Second round – 5 minutes * 19 second round picks before Dallas = 95 minutes, or 1:35.

For a grand total of… 6 hours, 1 minute before Dallas is on the clock, or 9:01pm CST.

Better pace yourself on that King Cobra.

Amen brother

I’ll watch until at least Dallas’ last pick in the 7th

lol....no chit huh....this sucks.....This is usually a highly anticipated day for me....but I must admit...I'm feelin' a bit flat right now...

But I’ll watch it from the beginning…as this is such a crazy draft, and players 1 through 12 can go in any order and none of the picks would suprise me…….players 13 through 24 or so is the same thing……I expect several trades to go down….heck Detroit might forfiet the pick , and slide down to 4 or so……who knows ?….

Deep down, I’m begging Jerry inside to fork over his 2010 1st rounder, along with this years 2nd, 4rd, and a 5th…and get into the top ten somehow……..Curry, Raji, Maclin, Crabtree…all would look sweet in Big D….

ahhh..but I regress to the fact we’ll sit arount 6 hours or so, and watch all our pet cats get scooped up….Gilbert, English, Mack, Unger, Barwin, Hood, Britt, Hicks, Robiskie, Delmas, Sintim, A Smith, S Smith…etc. etc…..

Finally the #51 pick comes along…….ummm…..Dallas is on the clock………

There has been a trade, Dallas trades their 2nd- 51, and 4th-104 to the NYGiants for the Giants 2nd-60 and their 3rd-80th ……

The New York Giants are on the clock…………

Oh boy…not this again…..

cured me from ever watching the draft again. I’ll tune in for Sportscenter and logon for the details. I can’t take another 3 hours of trading down from Trader Jerry.

Do you guys watch Espn or NFL Network?

I tend to flip back fourth as I can only take so much of Berman and Kiper. I think Mayock is the better gure anyway.

Remember when Carolina drafted D.Jarrett and Keyshawn was all talkin’ about being his mentor and then he got cut? That was awesome. Woulda missed that on NFLN, plus it’s fun to see who gets pissed off at Kiper.

easy.

Mel Kiper has gotten more shrill as the years go by and Berman has been a caricature of his Krusty the Klown self for way too long.

I’m annoyed they stop after round two now.
Dallas picks at the top of round three and I’m thinking they’ll jump into the end of the third as well. I want to see them end day one with three picks, instead of just one.

Well, this year

I’ll watch about the first 10-12 picks, then for the next several hours I’ll be busy, in and out of the house, keeping an eye on the ticker and the picks. As we get 4 or 5 picks away from DAL, I’ll be back in front of the TV. I’ve got my cell phone set to receive all DAL picks, just in case something happens. I try to tivo all cowboys picks and watch them over and over later that night.

by BishopWest on Apr 23, 2009 11:17 PM CDT reply actions

Usually I have to work.

I remember a couple of years ago we were picking like 22 (don’t we always pick there??) and I was so pissed that I was missing everything. I finally got off work rushed home and we weren’t even on the clock yet. That’s the only thing I missed about the 15 minutes.

This year I’ll be in Vegas for a Union conference. I’ll record it all and I’ll have my computer but I’ll be in classes Saturday and Sunday.

We’re seeing our first glimpse at temperatures above 60 degrees up here in New England this weekend (it will actually be something like 82). So it would be a crime for me to stay in on a day like that. But I fully intend to read up on all the draft choices that evening. Probably right here on BTB. :-)

I kind of like the fact that the draft has been moved to 4 pm EST from noon, now I can enjoy the great weather we’re supposed to have on Saturday for at least hlaf of the day any way.

Chiefs are converting to a 3-4 defense

and the Browns are a 3-4 defense as well, so Curry wouldn’t be a good fit with either team. Curry, as good as he is, simply isn’t a 3-4 OLB.

All my friends & family know that draft weekend is my weekend to withdraw.

I start with mimosas and kielbasa w/ biscuits. Just got me one of those big Costco-sized champagne bottles, which I pop when the 1st player is selected. I’ll save the Tecate for round 2 with lunch.

This year my cousin and her kids will be in from Canada, whom I haven’t seen in years. But I won’t be able to visit them. It seems like there’s always something going on during draft weekend (Earth Day festivals, The Asparagus Festival down in Stockton), but I take a personal holiday from society (except BTB, of course).

I have to remember that the 3rd round starts at 7am (PST) on Sunday. Last year, I missed it because I thought it didn’t start till 9.

Gosh, I can’t wait. It all happens tomorrow! No stopping till Mr. Irrelevant!

So much time...

…wasted. AND I FREAKIN’ LOVE IT!!!

I spend the day locked (for the most part) in my office at home. In it I have the computer, tv, radio. I also buy a newspaper (Goose…let me know your thoughts) and get a pad/pen ready. Then I go about making my final mock draft approximately 1 hour prior to the start, finishing about the time it starts.

Mixed in there is a bottle of Maredsous 8 and wings (with fries/ranch) from Wingstop.

This is one of my big days during the year. One of the few sporting events (kinda) that I won’t watch with anyone else. In fact, it is the only day during the year that my wife will completely leave me alone….seriously. Once I am in the office, she doesn’t talk to me until I come out. Actually, last year, she had to tell me something so she texted me.
