Dallas Cowboys 2009 Draft: Open Thread II
4:56 CT -- we're at pick 17. Good pace, with teams using only around seven and a half minutes per pick. Now that we're past the big trade-speculation zones, I think the pace will pick up even more.
New open thread for the 2009 NFL draft - starting with pick #17 in the first round.
Continue threading.

I think...
Robiskie is becoming very realistic now.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
How can he got at the top of first?
Aren’t we past the top of the first?
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
put down the coors?
How can he be drafted at the top of the first round by ANYONE?
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
They don't have to trade Edwards
Pettiegrew makes sense
I Froze up to many comments to work through
It was a doozy… i dont like english that high and i think freeman is gonna go right now
I thank God everyday i wasnt born a Eagles fan!!!!!!
TB had to jump denver for Freeman...
they’ve got some brass selecting him at this spot…(if they do)
He's the next best QB
Reach or not, they had to get past the Broncos. I bet they could have had Brady Quinn for less
okay,
now, we’re approaching the zone where Dallas players of interest are going to be called. English was the first.
But it’s a zero-sum game. Who’s falling?
Oher and Maclin, so far.
Where would English play on the Boys?
Behind Ware or behind Spencer. Don’t we still have Ellis? I don’t think OLB was an option at 51
i agree
I still want Sean smith or alphonso smith
I thank God everyday i wasnt born a Eagles fan!!!!!!
They needed a QB, they reached for a prospect
He might become something in time, but I would try hard to trade with the Bucs because they will most likely suck near term
Man...
I think Freeman is a good dude, but thats such a reach IMO.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
i think it was a good move for tampa
but still a reach
I thank God everyday i wasnt born a Eagles fan!!!!!!
at least the coach knows him...recruited him to K State...
I personally had him as a third round talent…but has upside…
TB gave up nothing for the pick
What does that old silly draft chart say about that
I don't have it memorized but it's only two mid-round spots
It cost them a potential player, but makes room for a UFA and they get the QB they wanted
yep
he’s a big SOB thats for sure.

Denver should go LB-Maualuga LB-Matthews, or OLB-Everett Brown........
Ayers is not big enough to play 3-4 DE….bad move..
time for the annual DB run
which always seems to start around pick 18 or so. Malcolm Jenkins, Vontae Davis.
One of them is going to the Eagles
Philly would be tempted by wells.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
He would be a perfect complement
That would suck
now averaging a pick every 6.5 minutes
love it.
Keep picking, people. Hand in your card and keep going.
Ayers went to Tennessee
So that makes his chances of being arrested to go up.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
Maybe...
But they also need a running back/wr/anything really haha.

maclin, davis, oher
biggest droppers at the moment.
Oher's still around?
After last draft, he was the top rated LT, I guess those short arms are dragging him down
thank god im back
i lost my laptop power cord… but i just found it and im back… fast draft so far, lovin it… only 32 more picks… unless jerry goes jerry on us and trades up haha

i wouldn't mind if they stayed...
but i wouldn’t mind if they traded up cause we have so many picks…

the first round grades are running out
which means we’re going to see a lot of surprising picks in the next dozen or so.
cause draft boards tend to diverge when you get into the second round.
all the mocks are going to look like goulash in the next hour or so.

I hope McNabb stinks it up next year
Philly added a ProBowl LT along with DeSean Jackson from last year.

Wouldn't
Oher make a lot of sense for Detroit here?
Tom Grieve is my hero.
Who is left
that we gave up for R. Williams?
Dumb dumb dumb
no OL, a starter at LT sitting there, and they pick a TE
Tom Grieve is my hero.
apparently
nobody does
I thought he was supposed to be better than this.
Tom Grieve is my hero.
Pettigrew is really really good...
but thats a weird pick for Detroit.
That’s more of a luxury pick to me.

that's a board pick
Oher is the big dropper this year.
The way he plays
is alot like Witten honestly.

I honestly was glad

Lions need everything
is TE the best starting point after QB?
Schwartz is a former scout
and from what I heard he’s not a dummy.
Pettegrew was probably the highest player on Det’s board at that spot.
They need players, lots of them. With their talent level, who cares where they get players, so long as they’re good ones.
i would not mind at all
if jerry traded up to like 28 or so to take ray mauaulaga if he sliips that far…. i would actually like that a lot

So...why is John Hart still being paid?

no, Unger will be gone by 40.
would not shock me if he went before 32
Can he stay out of jail?
Or out of the drug program? He’s already got 1 strike.

Vikes
Do you think the Vikes ever throw the ball more than 10 yards down the field this year? Peterson running the ball and Harvin working underneath.
No, this happens
Flozell was in the books at around 14-15 in’ 98 and slid to the early 2nd.
You know, I heard from somebody who worked with the Eagles that
they did not believe in taking WRs in the 1st. The only time they’re broken that rule
in the Reid/Banner era they got Freddie Mitchell.
Here’s hoping…
To me thats the most surprising pick of the draft
You can understand every other one. Crazy Al and DHB is probably the worst pick. But the most wild one off the radar is Mackin to the Eagles.

I think he trades up into the early 2nd
he said he didn’t want a first round pick because of the salary difficulties this year (different rules before an uncapped year.)
I’ll bet if a guy with a 1st round grade is on the board at 33, they start making some calls.
they gave 23 1st round grades in the Dallas war room this year.
who, still on the board, strikes you as 1st-grade material?
Mauluaga maybe,
cause he would fit a Dallas need.
right now, looking at Gosselin’s board, Vontae Davis and Beanie Wells are the droppers.
Mauluaga is a compositie 25, which means he may have one of Dallas’ last #1s.
I think New England has a target on Barwin
early in the 2nd.
right, but NE has the 34th and what, 44th picks?
they could snag both of them.

Big Game Tony will never win a game. Jerry Jones is the worst GM in football. The Roy Williams trade is killing us. Why can’t we be more like the Green Bay Packers or Pittsburgh Steelers???? I’d like to say that someone logged into my computer and was writing this for me, but this is now the cold, hard reality of our team that will be in a fast decline. The Cowboys are dead to me.

Whisky Wade Needs to Go
When are you all going to understand that this team needs an overhaul? Every year we have the most talented roster and we just don’t get the mileage out of our star, overpaid players. Phillips is not the answer. Tony Romo is regressing under his and Garrett’s “tutleage”. Phillips should have to pay for his seat, cause all he’s doing is spectating. Those last 5 games of the year should be nice for the Cowpokes. Another late season swoon is on the horizon. Jerry Jones is becoming the next Al Davis. The star needs to be rescued. Who will it be?? I’m done with this!!!!
