NFL Draft Countdown on Robert Brewster.

[UPDATE]: With the 69th pick, the Dallas Cowboys select: Jason Williams, LB, Western Illinois
NFL Draft Countdown on Jason Williams.

OK, today should provide a little more excitement than day one. I guarantee you, there will be a Cowboys pick at some point today. And we'll be here to cover it.
Actually, I am getting pretty pumped. We pick early and often today.
SB Nation's Mocking The Draft is covering the draft in detail. Spend some time over there.
Our picks today, I think:
Round 3: #5 and #11
Round 4: #1, #10 and #17
Round 5: #20, #30 and #36
Round 6: #24 and #35
Round 7: #1 and #18
Who you got for our first pick in the 2009 draft?
Start threading!

that trade handcuffed us yeaterday he better be a force next year thats all i got to say…I will be riding him all year if he does not produce like a big time wr…
I was very happy with what the Cowboys did yesterday
This draft has a creamy middle and now we are in a very commanding position. I had us trading down in my own mock draft. I am very excited to see what Tom, Jerry, and Steven have in store for us today.
Good morning guys
Yesterday was a little disappointing, but hopefully Trader Jerry will pick up a couple more mid round picks and provide some quality depth.
I still can’t believe they passed on Sean Smith though, maybe that will put the Hamlin to SS talk to rest.
Via DMN (below)
The player the Cowboys coveted with the 51st pick was Oregon center Max Unger.
Once Unger was picked two spots earlier by Seattle with a trade up with Chicago, the Cowboys decided to punt on the second round. They did not seriously entertain the thought of moving back into the round either.
According to Jerry Jones, Unger was a player that could come in immediately and compete for playing time. They loved his versatility – he was an all-Pac 10 pick at tackle and center.
Jones said the Cowboys had one player with a first-round grade on their board at No. 51 (Pitt running back LeSean McCoy) and four or five players with second round grades when they moved out
Rashad Johnson...I agree!!
Just please, please not Casey!!!

I've actually kind of soured on him a little
but getting him the third round is great value, so I would be happy.
If Michael Johnson is there at 101 I think we should take him
you usually take the boom bust prospect with that pick (first pick in the fourth round) normally, and Michael Johnson would fit that bill. And we would get great value; Draft Tek’s consensus big board had him rated as number 39. I think he would be a terror on third downs.
Help...
It would be much appreciated if someone could tell me exactly how long until the Draft starts please.
I definitely think disappointed was the word for yesterday.

wow
how in the hell are you guys happy or supportive about what happened yesterday? thats rediculous to me.. We blew monkey balls last season, especially towards the end.. you guys dont think for one second that a second round talent wouldnt have helped us climb a little bit out of that hole???
instead were getting MORE guys with LESS talent, when we already had tons of second day picks to begin with.. i have always been a jerry supporter but this is definatly a downer for me with him, although i highly doubt he cares about my opinoin.
all im saying is that this team is NOT good enough to be trading second round picks for third a fourths.. just stupid in my eyes
Maybe you missed it...
But half our team got hurt last year…
If we even do nothing more than just stay healthy this year, we win at least 2 more games.

Why not Sidbury or the Pothead WR?

Dallas gave him a 3rd round grade
84 is his composite score, which is mid 3rd. some teams had him a little higher,
some a little lower.
It’s a good pick.
real, war rooms
He’s in Gosselin’s top 100, which is a compilation of war room rankings.
of the LB prospects this round
he’s the guy I liked the best,
and with New England sitting at 9 they couldn’t risk having another
desired prospect snatched right before their eyes.
next up, Lawerence Sidbury
I suspect the strategy is select small school players with High Ceilings to try and maxamize value for where there are picked
Yes, Yes, Yes
I bet the team regrets keeping project linemen last year over Walden.
This guy looks good.
yeah, but those guys are not 241 lbs.
I think they’re going to move him inside. He’s a bigger Kevin Burnett.
Dallas Drafts...
Kevin Burnett? Just kidding.
But he looks a similar prospect, fast inside backer who is good in coverage.
Couldn't we have taken him much later?

I was told this week Dallas had 3rd round grades on him and Brinkley and were hoping they might fall to 101. But as perhaps you’ve noticed, a lot of guys Dallas likes — Robiske, Unger, Vollmer, Gilbert — are going higher than expected. New England picks soon. You like him, you take him.
who did you want instead?

Rashad, but he’ll probably still be there when we pick next. Don’t really know anything about Williams though. Sounds like he’s a project though
Jason Williams report
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1256306
GENERAL REPORT
GRADE: 6.3
Body Structure: Williams has a compact, muscular frame with good upper-body development, broad shoulders, thick chest, tapered thighs and thick hamstrings. He will need to add bulk to compete at the next level, but has room on his frame to carry the additional weight without it impacting his overall speed. Even though he is not bulky, he is a stout athlete with good muscle definition and is impressively defined in his calves and biceps.
Athletic Ability: Williams has great agility and athletic ability, playing with ideal quickness and speed. He shows fine balance closing on the ball and the ability to stay on his feet working through trash. With his flexibility, he is quick to redirect and work his way to the flow of the ball. He has the quickness of a safety dropping back in zone coverage and is an above-average player in the open field with suddenness to close. He looks athletic moving to the ball, showing fluid change-of-direction agility, acceleration and body control in attempts to keep the action in front of him. He shows suddenness in his initial move off the ball and gets to top speed quickly. He has the lateral agility and change-of-direction agility to slip off blocks and string plays wide. He shows good strength at initial contact and breaks down well on the move. His ability to quickly turn and run makes him an asset in pass coverage, as he has the foot speed to stay with most receivers through their routes. GRADE: 7.3
Football Sense: Williams is naturally instinctive with good field vision. He is a quick study taking plays from the chalkboard to the field. He prepares well and understands assignments. He is not the type that will take poor angles in pursuit, showing the hip action to quickly turn coming out of his backpedal. He is alert maintaining eye contact with the ball when working through trash. He picks up traps and pulls easily and shows fluid feet retreating in pass coverage. He stays focused throughout the play and knows his teammates’ assignments well enough to line other players. He plays with savvy and knows what he’s doing on every down. GRADE: 6.4
Character: Williams is a blue-chip prospect with a blue-collar work ethic. He is a self-starter who puts in the extra hours in the weight room and film room. He has no known off-field issues, is mature for his age and has a good business-like approach. He is a solid individual, both on and off the field. GRADE: 6.3
Competitiveness: Williams plays to the whistle. He doesn’t allow emotions to get the better of him. He is the type that will sacrifice his body to make plays all over the field. He plays with great energy and will not hesitate sacrificing his body to step up in the trenches and take on the lead block, despite giving up quite a bit of bulk offensive linemen. He is an energetic type and hits hard, but will get a bit out of control. The type that works long hours to succeed and more often than not, you will find him in the film room after practices. He stays focused and plays hard, whether in game action or practices. He is the type that can get physical with the bigger blockers and will not hesitate to mix it up in the trenches. GRADE: 6.5
Work Habits: Williams plays with energy and wants to be in on every tackle. He goes about his business quietly, but lets his actions on the field speak for him. He is better in space but will give it his all when playing in the box, despite obvious size and bulk issues. He is a self-motivated type who is a well-respected team leader. He takes well to hard coaching. He is an outstanding worker in practices and a self-made type that pushes himself hard to succeed. He has an excellent team-first attitude and while he is a leader by example, he will not hesitate to get vocal in the huddle. GRADE: 6.4

I think one of the emerging stories this year is this is the year the draft books have really been

Vollmer is rated as a 7th rounder in one book I have here. Brewster isn’t in it at all.

We are all a little shell shocked after the Peterman, Rogers, Marten picks, etc, but we need to keep trying. There is no instant payoff, which is no fun – it’s like saving for retirement.

Jason Williams is a strong pick, and Brewster was choosen about where he's generically rated

I think NE is
winning the draft so far. Which means absolutely nothing since none of the guys have stepped foot on the field yet. But they are making smart trades and getting good talent for where they are picking. Why does it always seem that the Pats get more value in their trades than anyone else in the league. Are they just smarter than everyone or is there something else? Conspiracy Theory anyone?

So we get a 5th Rounder to move out of the 2nd
And Philly gets one for moving a few spots down in the 3rd. Jerrah is slick!
that's why I didn't like the trade yesterday
I was ok with trading out of the 2nd round, but we just didn’t get good value for trading that pick. We though a player was going to be there and when he wasn’t we panicked and had to take the best offer. We got hosed.
Trading down makes sense
if someone is knocking at your door for the pick. Otherwise, you don’t get the full value.

I’m very surprised that Dallas did not pull the trigger on Sudbury, at least w that 2nd pick. I expect them to snag him if he’s still there @ 4 (1). Williams is more of a tackling machine, not so much a pass rusher, so there’s room to take another LB here.
