Cowboys Top 50

I'm sure many of you have seen the on-going piece over at the mothership regarding the Cowboys Top 50. That's the top 50 players in their history, to those of you not paying attention.

They took a panel of 9 Cowboyologists (need to trademark that) who combined their lists to create this census, in which they are releasing one new name per day.

I thought we at BTB might want to take a crack at this as well. I would propose we could nominate a list of 75 - 100 players and then anyone interested could rank the greatest Cowboys 1 - 50. You could email your list to me and I would put it into a spreadsheet and tabulate the results.

Might be an interesting time-kill for the offseason.

Good idea

it would be a interesting debate to see how everyone ranks the Cowboys players in their entire history. Just 1 question: are there a minimum amount of years spent playing for the Cowboys or can we go with like say Deion Sanders for example.

Private ballot

I think it might be more fair and more fun to not post our individual rankings on this site, but to let one person tabulate (I have offered, but happy to let someone else do it.) That way someone (not pointing fingers, cough Terry cough) couldnt see that their favorite player is not getting appropriate recognition and put that player higher on their list to compensate.

Then the tabulator will post 5 at a time to allow for appropriate debate.

I also think we should have a list of nominees prior to the rankings so that no one is forgotten which eschews the ratings.

Doesnt seem like there is much interest from Cowboys nation in creating our own Top 50 Cowboys list to compare with the list being unveiled over at dallascowboys.com.

However, anyone that wants to play, just let me know. I will be pulling together my list over the long weekend and if anyone else is interested, I will provide my email address and you can send me your list to combine. Or you can just post here if you prefer.

The list of candidates I compiled is long (137 people) but I didnt want to leave anyone out. So, I included some greats that didnt play a long time with Dallas (Lance Alworth), or were past their prime in Dallas (Mike Ditka), or just anyone who made a Pro Bowl with Dallas (Jim Schwantz???)

I only included players – no votes for Tom Landry please. You can decide on your own if you want to take those guys who didnt play their whole career in Dallas (Charles Haley) on their entire career or just their time in Dallas. Also, you can decide how you want to evaluate current players and their place in Cowboys history (Romo.)
