Westbrook to have surgery
From ESPN...
Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will have surgery Friday to clean up some bone spurs in his right ankle, according to his agent, Todd France.
The Eagles called the procedure "a debridement" of the ankle.
France had no timetable for Westbrook's return but characterized the procedure as minor. Another source, however, said the surgery could sideline Westbrook well into training camp. Eagles veterans report to training camp on July 29.

This video link says he will not be able to run for 6-8 weeks until after the surgery.

And Yes Westy...........
won’t be on my fantasy team this year.McNabb won’t be either.

I wouldn't
Westbrook is getting old and is injury prone. He hasn’t played a full 16 games his entire career and I don’t see that changing this year either. Every year he misses games. Without Westbrook the Eagles are in trouble.

sounds like just a cleaning of his ankle...no big deal IMO

They say he will be able to attend the first Mini camp in August.
So shouldnt be a problem. I dont want him to go down this way i want him to go down at the hands of a Cowboy.

+1
especially because that will give the eagles fans no reason to say we couldn’t win when they have a healthy lineup

Lol they wouldnt say that.....
Cas we didnt use that on them last year……. Caz im sure we were better healthy then them.

Bone spurs...
Someone posted all about bone spurs on BGN… It’s actually rather informative (if you’re into bone spurs).

I have alot of respect for westy but...
His best days are behind him and he will be off my draft board …He still is a very very dangerous player he just gets injured to often for my taste…I be shocked if he played in 12 games this year…

Ya im looking forward for Mcnabb to start to fade to..
I dont know how much longer hes got…… I thought last year was his last then he proved me wrong so who knows
by regaberto on Jun 4, 2009 2:47 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
mcnabb...
I think his best days are behind him as well obviously…But I can see him play an entire season unlike westy..Now mcnabb has had his share of injuries as well but he seems more stable than west. Either way both players are past there prime no doubt and look foward to watching kolb take over lol…

If the New O-line is half of what it has been hyped as
McNabb could have a very good year.

I want what you guys are smoking
if you see McNabb slowing down…he finished the regular season on a good streak, won two playoff games and killed the Cards in the NFC Champ loss. He’ll be just 33 this year to boot. About his only negative is his injury history. Frankly I will be pretty damned happy if he finally retires.

I think McNabb has 2-3 years of high quality play left. Ideally somewhere other than in Philadelphia.

I’d be worried about my garbage WR’s, my slow defense, my heartless QB, my extremely old O-Line, and my dopey coach.
That should get the comments going…
by Bye, Dawk :( on Jun 4, 2009 9:09 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'll take the bait ...
Garbage WRs – Unproven, maybe. Garbage, no. You can’t really talk because before DeSean, you guys were the NFLs scrap heap for WRs. Let’s see how DeSean progresses before you start calling other teams wide receivers (especially a team with Roy Williams, who can play) garbage.
Slow Defense – Where did this come from? Our LBs can all run – Ware, Spencer, Bradie James, etc. Maybe not Greg Ellis, but we just cut him. Our DBs are speedie in Newman, Scandrick, Jenkins, Hamlin and Sensabaugh. Again, the only one who couldnt run (the old Roy Williams) is gone.
Heartless QB – He broke his pinkie on his throwing hand. He tried to go in practice the week after the break, but he couldnt grip the ball with the cast. It’s not like he didnt go because it ‘hurt’ him. He just couldnt grip the ball. It wasnt his left hand.
Old O-Line – I, um, well, you see … it’s just that … ok, they are old.
Dopey coach – Check. I hate that fat f**k.

but obviously he wont be Brian Westbrook. Not initialy, at least.
by TCBinNYC on Jun 5, 2009 2:41 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
In the NFL, RB’s can contribute fairly quickly, but in the Eagles’ offense, I think it’s a lot more difficult. I’m honestly not expecting much out of McCoy this year. I’d like to see some flashes of what to expect down the line, but without Westy, it’s a big concern.
by Bye, Dawk :( on Jun 5, 2009 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
big mistake on your part

Don't get me wrong...
I loved that pick, too. It’s just a rarity for rookies to contribute immediately in the Eagles offense. DeSean Jackson was an anomaly.
by Bye, Dawk :( on Jun 5, 2009 6:02 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
rookie RBs have the easiest transition
to make, if jackson can do it, so can McCoy. He can run and catch really well and isn’t that what Reid primarily asks his RBs to do?

Im not....
Our defense is far from slow buddy….Have you seen that tired defense of yours..lol….You got worse in the off season, not better…Westbrook, old, tired and injury prone….No TE to speak of…..one good WR, the other a rookie that is raw that needs to learn the WC system. The last I checked those two overpaid OT’s don’t play on offense…
I already said we would finish 9-7, at best 10-6….

Eagles blogs suck
They actually call their info thread “bird droppings”. WTF? And don’t try to say anything bad about any Eagle ever. They resort to good ol’ name calling very easy over there. I guess that’s why this douche is always on our site.

You spend so much time here, being called a douche over here every once in a while just kind of comes with the territory. That’s much more PG than what we would get at your site or, God Forbid, at the Linc.
I also liked Billito’s comment about opening up a vein. Good stuff.
As for the point about not being able to say anything bad about an Eagle over there, we have that problem too. I find myself being more negative than positive on this site (not my nature) because so many of us think our players are the best in the game.

It's kind of like in the movie "Animal House"
Otter and Schoenstein are watching in the distance as Niedermeyer is berating Flounder, and Otter says, “Hey, he can’t do that to our pledges. Only we can do that to our pledges.”
Same concept here… If an Eagle fan criticizes an Eagles player, or a Cowboy fan a Caowboy player, it’s not so bad. But if an Eagle fan criticizes a Cowboy player or vice versa, it’s war.

Interesting breakdown
It is written by an orthepedic surgeon and explains that the reasons for the surgery, rather than the surgery itself, may signal a winding down for westbrook.
by Billito on Jun 6, 2009 1:02 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I am not that concerned about the surgery itself, but...
he had his knee operated on in January. Now, he gets this.
You have to question what kind of off season conditioning he could have gotten while going through all of this. It’s not the ankle event, it is the cumulative effect of the injuries and his resulting inability to get in top condition for another grueling season.

Westbrok misses games every year...
As a birds fan I can’t argue that fact. Last year he was hurt almost all season and missed 3 games. In the same breath the man scored 14 TDs. When he is on the field he produces. If I had to chose between 16 games and 13 with production I’ll take option number two. He is basically like Newman for you guys. Hurt every year and a monster when he is on the field.
