Could it really happen?
Apparently the door has not been completely closed on cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones’ career with the Dallas Cowboys.
A giddy Jerry Jones, reached in his private suite after the George Strait concert Saturday night to open the new Cowboys Stadium, asked a reporter, "Would you beat me up too bad if I brought back Adam?"
The Cowboys’ owner said he is considering the move even though it’s a long shot.

Pacman was pretty good last season
He had the lowest YPA of any corner. The guy knows how to play. With Newman getting injured so often and us having to make excuses for his play, who knows.

Who is making excuses for his play? When he wasn’t injured he was the best CB on the team. Pacman didn’t do anything after the bathroom incident.

I guess best means
getting beat by Santonio and Desean in some important games. We said he was off in his first game against the Redskins, but he got beat in other games after he was healthy.
I remember how Aikman was blasting Pacman on how miserable a corner Pacman was before the Steelers game started, but he mentioned Pacman’s name twice, for each of the times Pacman defensed a pass or defended well. I’m betting if Pacman had started the rest of the games, we would have seen more of him.
Again, Pacman’s YPA should standout from the rest of the team. In the middle of season, he had the lowest YPA and completion rate of any player. Apparently the coaches had Pacman rated as their best corner last season.

While there’s nothing wrong
with Jerry "considering" bringing back Pacman—it is Jerry’s job to consider all the options—I don’t think Pacman’s play on the field last year necessarily warrants bringing him back.
I won’t argue that he can play, but I really don’t think there’s any way he’d beat out Mike Jenkins or Orlando Scandrick. And his presence might impede the development of the other guys who need the reps because injuries are always a concern, and Pacman has already proved there’s no way you can count on him to be there when you’d need him!

Well put.
Why would you retard the development of your two younguns with a talented but completely unreliable PacMan?

You Said “retard” and that’s exactly what Pacman is a dumb ass retard. Jerry should go look at tape of the iggles game and then decide if he wants to bring him back. I think he was the only punt returner to avg. negative yards for the season. Hell No! No Thanks!!!.

I guess the coaches disagree
You said: “I don’t think Pacman’s play on the field last year necessarily warrants bringing him back.”
But the Telegram has Jerry saying Pacman graded out as their best corner. Quite frankly, I didn’t see it. But then again, I don’t have coach’s tape and have never graded out corners myself.

Right, but
my point is even if he is good enough to start for us (like you, I have trouble believing that), it makes no sense to take reps from the young guys you will be counting on in the case of injury since you can’t count on Pacman to be on the team when you need him.

Please, NO!
I’m tired of apologizing for idiots and guys with no character or moral integrity. I finally think we’ve taken a step towards being a team that we can be proud of, don’t go screwing it up by bringing back Pac. That experiment failed. Let it go.
I have noticed a new resurgence in Cowboy hating in 2007, which can only mean one thing- We're back.

want to see him back…however he might excel in punt returning under DeCamillis. Work his butt off on special teams only.

I'm sure Jerry was BS'n
But just in case he’s not, I started writing the pros and cons of a move like this. In doing so I came to the absolute conclusion that I do not want Pac near this team. There are some pros, but the cons far outweigh them.
by sublimezg on Jun 8, 2009 11:04 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
The biggest "con" is the Three Ring Circus it would create...
Even if Pacman has the talent (allegedly) to be a solid contributor, I hope we take a pass. It’s just not worth the media maelstrom it would create. I thought this offseason was all about removing distractions, with Ellis and his griping being the last of it. Do we suddenly lack sufficient depth in our secondary? Do we not have a few guys who can return punts? If one of our corners had a serious injury — then MAYBE.
I think Jerry was all ginned up when he said it. He has this incessant need to defend his prior personnel moves. Almost like he can’t admit to a mistake. All this talk about how T.O. and now Pacman were really great guys in the locker room directly contradicts his actions in releasing them. Here’s hoping this is all empty talk — nothing else.
by Boundforbeach on Jun 8, 2009 11:11 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Sure as hell we need him!!!
He was very effective as a CB last year and would rather use him than Crayton or Felix on punt returns. He would come in cheap too.

Faster...
more aggresive than K Davis, and can play all phases even as PR/KR+back-up DB+ some O. If he has gotten it ?
And missing that check again, probably got his attention.

Ya Know now that....
the pains of that last beating are fading away.
Pac was really aggresive on defense, DeCamillis won’t tolerate him freelancing on punts+ kick-offs,his speed as a gunner and you know he’ll lay it on ya’ if he gets a shot.
Jerry’s just realizing that if he had just let him rely on himself as a man w/o the babysitter it probably never happens. And if it does happen it really is all on him and nobody else.
Just remember half of his passes defensed were more like drops and should have been picks, Really until Newman got back he was the best DB out there, besides if he stays on track you get a talent for the minimum and he’ll only get better with time,it doesn’t have to derail the young guys as a STeamer 1st/backup DB 2nd ’cause the Wrs+Felix need to be healthy for the O. As much as I bashed “Red”, loosing 3 out of 5 WRs probably limits you.

I wouldn't mind.
I don’t think he was the lockerroom liability people make him out to be. He’s stupid, there’s no question, I just don’t see how him being here could adversely affect the team. Last year didn’t really work out that well… but it didn’t really hurt us either. I wouldn’t call him the “failed experiment” that most would. The straw that broke the camel’s back last year wouldn’t have even been newsworthy if it was anyone else.

Does this possibly speak to Newmans health? I know he was held out of the last OTAs.Maybe a trade is in the works? seems to me like either they know they whiffed on this draft or some of these kids are the
real deal and maybe just maybe someone offered some value for newman? Or maybe jerral was just drunk.

I thought of that as well but with his contract(Newmans) We are stuck with him.
Pac could solve some of the “what if” problems but he will cause as problems many as he fixes. Throw in his unreliability and media circus that comes with him and the price is too high.

I thought we were through with this? Pacman wasn’t bad for us last year, but unless either a. newman has secret injury issues or b. sensabaugh really flat out sucks, meaning they want to try scandrick at safety….i just don’t see it. and what exactly did he do last year as a punt returner that warrants resigning him?

Is Pac still eligible for the Practice Squad?
"Grow where you are planted."

Here's the real scoop
Jerry and Jimmy were slammin down some cold ones – Jimmy said, “It’s good to be back, man!”
Jerry misunderstood and thought he heard Jimmy say, “It would be good to have Pacman!”
Still tipsy when he spoke to the press, it came out all wrong.
Seriously, if you could bring Pacman back for camp, and as Aaron suggested, carry him on the practice squad, then maybe. Who knows, maybe some team might offer something for a trade if their corner situation gets dire. Other wise, you can’t consider Pacman a stable solution.

Pac isn't that bad
I have no problem with bringing him back – especially if TNew is getting to that point in his career where he is injury prone. I like both of our young corners (especially Scandrick). But I’m not comfortable with leaving them alone back there if/when TNew goes down.
Pac Man did a pretty good job in relief for Newman when he had to. He didn’t start conspiracy theories against his teammates (like TO). He didn’t create lockerroom problems. And he gave 100% when he was out there (unlike Tank – or “scared to fill a hole” Jenkins). I don’t know what was up with his terrible effort at punt returns. But as a corner, he was a solid contributor and good teammate. Can he be counted on for 16 games? Maybe not. But neither can Newman.

no way
No matter how good a player is, if he is one slip-up away from a lifetime ban, you can’t count on the guy to be anything more than a dime CB.
Now would the media circus be worth it for a dime player? Heck no…
And I’m one of the few that thinks Pac is still a good player…

"No Plans" is meaningless
Re: T.O.
“You and I both know that the one that you’re asking about all the time, if I gave you the answer that you want to hear, then you would’ve already had it. So the fact you don’t have it ought to tell you something. It really should,”

Re: Roy Williams
"We have no plans to trade for a receiver before the trading deadline." No plans? So it’s not going to happen? "No," he said. "No trade for a receiver."

Why not take a cheap player that will be the best dime CB in the league, can return punts and play special teams? If he can’t beat Jenkins and Scandrick, even though I think he can, then how would he impede their development?

Maybe Jerry is trying to help Pacman out.
Sometimes when you are troubled, whether due to alcoholism, anger issues, or whatever, you need a goal. Maybe Jerry doesn’t really intend to ever seriously give Pacman another chance, but is trying to give a young man a reason to continue working hard to get his life together. He gives Pacman something to work toward in the short term, and when the guy does, hopefully, get his life straight, he will be able to be successful at something else. If Jerry took away the only hope that this guy has now, it might be the last straw that makes him give up and give in to his bad influences and tendencies. By having something to strive for, it can give him some short term strength in the struggle to become a better man.
But he was our best CB last year.

Not happening. It makes zero sense to bring him back. He had his chance last season and he blew it. The team has moved on with Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, and Mickens. With Ball and D Smith as additional depth.
