Which division has the best? Part 1: NFC East
Ok, I will be making a all star team form each division. Starters and Backups. Based on comments I might tweak the teams a little. After the teams are finished we will vote the best through the worst. Each week we vote which all star team gets booted when they get booted. The team with the most votes each week played the team with the least. Then the second most vs the second least and etc. Then we vote off who would has the least chance. Today will be our division
Edited! Again

wow
Pretty ambitious to think the typical fan would be able to judge without discrimination. I am curious to see the train wreck.

Stopped reading when you had Romo on the bench
behind Eli adn McNabb. Thats all the evidence I need to know this team is rubbish.
Prime Time: If we were playing a game of pickup basketball, what should I expect?
Tony Romo: Well...I'd spot you 10 points if we were playing to 11.

make the case
for romo to be in front of eli. Or McNabb.
R.I.P, Air McNair

Hmmm
Where to begin? I could go many routes to make the case. However, the definitive case centers on three stats that standout to me. Those three stats are completion percentage, TD-INT ratio, and YPA. These three stats take into account consistency (completion percentage), playmaking ability (ratio), and efficiency (YPA) throwing the ball.
For completion percentage, the stats read:
Romo- 61.3
McNabb- 60.4
Manning- 60.3
For TD-INT ratio, the stats read:
Romo- 26 TDs, 14 INTs
McNabb- 23 TDs, 11 INTs
Manning- 21 TDs, 10 INTs
For YPA, the stats read:
Romo- 7.66 yards per attempt
McNabb- 6.86 yards per attempt
Manning- 6.76 yards per attempt
Well, you wanted a case made, and here it is. Romo has almost a yard higher per attempt than both McNabb and Manning, as well as having a slight edge in completion percentage. And in my opinion the ratio statistic is about a wash since Romo makes up for the more interceptions with more touchdowns. So, yes, you are entitled to your opinion of what makes a great QB, but I will take Tony over McNabb and Manning every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

not to mention
That last year was probably romo’s worst year.

For McNabb?
One player got benched last season… I don’t need to add anything else on this subject.

To be constructive...
1. Romo is the starter, for the reason stated above
2. Roy Williams is a starter, for many reasons the most obvious of which is the the other 3 receivers are all the same type (small, quick guys)
3. Leonard Davis is better than both of the starters, not to mention the back-ups, have to have him somewhere.
4. Jay Ratliff is better than Barry Cofield, have you seen what the guy can do at the NT spot?
5. Brady James is better than both Bradely and Fletcher, but I would settle for having him listed over one of them
I can’t argue too much on the rest of these, my first instinct was to raise hell about the running backs, but Westbrook and Portis are pretty good, I would personally take Barber. Can’t argue with the tackles too much although Andrews had a horrible year last year and everyone just assumes he will return to pro-bowl form—not a given. I really like Gurode, but O’Hara is pretty nasty. Can’t argue over DE’s when we don’t run that system. I really think one of or other 2 CBs should be there, they are at least as good as the overrated DHall. Thats about it.

aside from the incredible slant towards philly and away from dallas
I think this list shows how incredibly talent this division is.

Teams are units that play together, not a collection of individuals
I resisted responding to this thread (for many of the reasons stated above) but am bored so here goes.
Each “position” must be related to the entire unit. A collection of all-stars never plays as well as a team. But units can be judged vis-a-vis another, even though one unit can be killed by the other in overall terms (i.e., if you can’t generate a pass rush, your DBs will suck..see Denver).
So who has the best units?
QB – I’ll take Romo, but McScabb has an argument, Eli doesn’t.
RB – Giants lost their 1000 compliment, Westbrook is old and hurt, Cowboys are 3 deep.
WR – Cowboys easily. Giants start 2 new, Philthy has a couple of rookies & 2nd year guys.
TE – Please!
OL – Lines take a few years to gel. Giants and ’Boys are tied, edge to the ’Boys based on Pro Bowls.
Really, the entire Offense and Defense should be judged. If you say the Iggles have the best D, I’d debate but might agree. Gints are in the discussion as well. Skiz are not far behingd.
But Offense? There is little question that over the past 2 (and only) years of Romo’s career, the Cowboys have the best Offensive unit.

But the reason Romo is on the bench
is because he doesn’t show conisitency. McNabb and Manning have shown there “clutch”.
Also Roy Williams hasn’t shown much since his 1 good year w/ the lions
I will add Leonard Davis and move up Jay ratliff

I think posting 90+ qb rating for 3 years in a row
is pretty consistent if you ask me.
In Romo we Trust

Manning
Since when has Eli ever been consistent. He has posted some of the ugliest games in the last few years (Vikings game comes to mind) and has never really had an incredible game that has made me go “wow.” Perhaps some of that has to do with his team running the ball more than other teams, but to say he is clutch or consistent is skewing things pretty bad. I will give him that it was a great play to get away from Wilfork on that infamous throw, but the throw itself was not really that great. Plus, the Patriots dropped one or two great chances at INTs that would have finished the Giants. I understand that he has a ring and the props that go along with that, but Trent Dilfer has one as well. To put him ahead of Romo for simply managing four games in a row in the playoffs does not make much sense to me.
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

Yeah, because blaming Romo...
… For his December-January record is like blaming McNabb for not winning the Super Bowl.
QBs can help their teams win big games, but they can’t win the games by themselves.

just as many as almost every other cowboy
that point is stupid when comparing quarterbacks. Romo hasn’t won a playoff game and you come back with Mcnabb not winning a lombardi? Wow Give me a break
Eagles.

It's also a horrible point to compare a QB who's been starting in the league forever...
and drafted in the top 5, to one who’s just beginning his 3rd year as a starter.

Not really
Romo is 29 and Mcnabb is 32. Mcnabb has been in the league for 10 years and romo 6. Donovan won his first playoff game in 2000… his second year as a starter, first year playing 16 games. He continued to get his team playoff victories for 7 out of the 10 years he has been a quarterback. You can sit on these numbers all you want but mcnabb is a much more successful quarterback and they are absolutely comparable. Romo is far from a rookie.

4-years is still a big difference in the NFL.
Romo has never had a losing season. McNabb has.

Losing season?
You know who else had losing seasons? Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, John Elway… the list goes on. Losing seasons don’t mean much. Playoff victories, superbowl appearances, and superbowl victories (i know, you don’t have to say it) are what matter.
Eagles.
by #1EaglesFan on Jul 19, 2009 6:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
they're all pretty equal
Manning frequently looks crappy, but he’s great in the last 2 minutes of a half.
Romo frequently looks good, but has been the most amazing choker in the clutch.
McNabb is just all-around average. He used to be a good mobile QB but doesn’t have so much left in the tank and now Romo is the run threat of the three.
The NFC East doesn’t have an elite QB.
You play to win the game!

I must correct you.
Romo is the only NFC East QB I would want on my team being down 7 with 2 to play.

romo has managed 2.
u forgot to make a point.
so far i have heard that eli sucks and romo has no experience.
point jumps out that the giants bailed out their QB and cowboys didnt.

This is going to be a great year
with this defense the boys are going to field.
Plaxico is going to hurt the giants more than Owens is going to hurt the boys. Eli’s famous toss it up and pray passes are not going to really work any more. Romo is going to go back to picking the open guy, kindof like buisness as usual. Romo’s throw the ball to TO so he will shut up is over to.
ahhhhhhh its going to be great year.
