Oh No! What will we talk about now?!
Tony Romo broke up with Jessica Simpson on Thursday, the night before her 29th birthday, a source close to the pop star tells PEOPLE."She is heartbroken," says the source. "She loves Tony. But it's been difficult lately. He's busy with his career and she's getting ready to shoot her show (The Price of Beauty). They decided to part ways."

+1..sounds like he already is...
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback fueled breakup rumors when he showed up with about 14 friends at the Hollywood hotspot MyHouse on Friday night without the birthday girl, a source tells PEOPLE.
“He had quite a few girls stop by his dance floor table,” says an onlooker. “Romo was sipping Grey Goose and having a fun time with the boys.”

You made an extreme statement—that he can do anything he wants as long as its legal. Last time I checked, racist speech was legal. So by your reasoning, he can engage in such speech and that would not be a problem for you.
NOTE: this is an example of your flawed reasoning: I am not accusing Romo of ever saying anything racist.
But i am done with this. your just too defensive when it comes to Romo. I know there are a lot of haters, and your used to reacting to them, but I am not one of them.

Right
but the point Terry made still has validity – hanging with a starlet and going to a popular club is really not a sound basis for criticizing Romo as either a player or a role model. It’s a personal life that is shared by any number of players who don’t get media-stalked. The fact that media reports it can’t be hung on Romo as somehow his responsibility.
Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig loves it.
by dunkman on Jul 13, 2009 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It is a sound basis
If you agree with Parcells’ tenth commandment of quarterbacking: do not become a celebrity QB.
Parcells would say that a lot of that stuff is in Romo’s control or it would not be a commandment.
I don’t think Parcells would have a commandment just to be a killjoy (he let LT party); rather he probably thought it might hinder a QBs play.

by dave33 on Jul 13, 2009 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ah, well I don't agree with that Parcells' commandment
And maybe what he meant was don’t get to full of yourself. I don’t know. But geeze, who would even want a QB who lived like a freakin hermit and didn’t have a life outside football? And why does everyone think there is some standard for just how famous a person you have a right to date? I think it falls under nunya.

I don't think anyone is advocating that Romo be a hermit
but they would rather him not be on the front of every tabloid that comes out. Unfortunately, Jessica’s Dad used Romo for publicity and hopefully, Romo finally gets it.
by texstar on Jul 13, 2009 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's not a good cause and effect relationship
I am guessing that a lot of players sip Grey Goose, some even around celebs, and it doesn’t get reported. The fact that People reported it doesn’t mean Romo is seeking it or enjoying it. That’s your assumption. It only means People is reporting it. And Peoiple report it because of Jessica. If he were dating some rich but realtively obscure heiress, they probably wouldn’t.
Tony may or may not be seeking publicity. Problem is, you and I don’t know that.
Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig loves it.
by dunkman on Jul 13, 2009 2:37 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Correct
I am only guessing that he likes it or he would avoid it. That seems pretty straightforward to me.
But the fact that People is reporting it is what makes him a celebrity QB, whether he likes it or not.
But some QBs (such as Brady) can handle it. I am rooting for Tony to be able to handle it.

There's a difference in Manning's exposure and hanging out with celebrities though.
Manning is seen as a savvy QB and good businessman with all the product endorsements. I wouldn’t put hanging out with celebrities in nightclubs in the same category because they are totally different. Hanging out with celebrities gives some the impression that you are a big partier and carefree. I wouldn’t say advertising for Direct TV or Sony is quite the same. Make sense?
by texstar on Jul 13, 2009 3:40 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
It does
but it still makes Manning a “celebrity QB”. I mean the dude is on SNL. And Tom Brady at clubs with super models? I’m just pointing out that it’s the media who creates the furor and then beats the guys over the head for being celebrities.
I have no problem with whomever Romo dates. He’s an American with the same rights as the rest of us to pursue happiness. It’s only foremost in our minds because it’s over-covered and over-hyped by the media.

I am only discussing the logic of a common cliche I read everywhere about having to win something first and then you can… talk, party, have a celebrity girlfriend, produce fecal matter, etc. I have no interest in defining your standards.

Makes not a quantum of difference to how Romo lives his life. It’s a matter of perception, and that differs between you and me. We can agree to disagree.

I don't know where to start
Romo’s love life – I couldn’t care less. Was Jessica a distraction as some would believe? I’m not so sure, it seems to me having someone there to umm, service those male needs could be a good thing. The fact she was a celeb and a divorcee was irrelevant. Would Tex please make suggestions for three acceptable girl friends for TR? She can’t be a divorcee, she can’t like Cabo and she can’t be a celeb – maybe one of those hot cult chicks with the long dresses and the 1800’s hairdo out in West Texas. (wait, they’re all married)
Tex – The Texas Monthly Magazine has a recurring comedic article from a guy who supposedly knows all things about Texas and he calls himself the Texanist and only speaks in third person. That’s where I believe Montecito Tex ‘borrowed’ his persona. Anyway, I’m glad to see there is one less thing on which to hear a recurring rant.
Variation on a theme- Above, regarding talking honestly about another man’s woman – don’t. No good can come from this.

Just watched
Super Bowl XIII on NFL Network. Yeah, Steelers won that game, but seeing Staubach and Company move in for two late touchdowns in the closing minutes was a moving experience.
They came short of erasing Jackie Smith’s blunder (that sorry POS) but they showed what a championship team is made of. Roger was grace under pressure, and Drew Pearson was the model of poise and toughness.
That is the Cowboys team I want to see again. New players with the old fire.
That kind of team requires a QB — hell, a whole team of guys — who are more driven to win it all than to celebrate their celebrity.
I hope this is the year that Romo settles into being a team leader and a winner when the going gets toughest.
Keep doing what you been doing, keep getting what you been getting.

It was both - off and catchable
and Roger was a classy guy who wouldn’t point the finger at a team mate. It absolutely killed Jackie Smith.
Most people who talk about that play think it should have been caught, for what that’s worth.

I guess the way I try to look at this is
I don’t really know anything about the players as people and how they actually interact – who is leader, who is a follower, who is a butt-head. A lot of what we think about these guys is based on little or no evidence and a whole bunch of media conjecture based on pretty much the same thing.
It’s just my personality to give them the benefit of the doubt. I think Witten, Romo and Garrett to name a couple probably could have at any time pointed out that TO was running crappy routes or that Crayton blew a great chance in the Giants’ playof game but blew it. I suppose that’s class. But maybe those guys are a**es and TO is a great guy. I really don’t know, but I refuse to make sweeping assumptions about people I don’t remotely know.
Roger was my hero growing up, but looking back on it, it was his image I looked up to, because I didn’t really know anything else about him.

We always think teams are driven and players have fire and people are "stepping up"
when they achieve great things. And conversely we ascribe all the negative attributes to teams when they don’t. It’s human nature, but it’s not usually true.
The Giants were whining, dysfunctional, coach-hating, Goober QB’d bunch of pumpkin heads until they had a great run at the end of their season and suddenly Eli is Patton, Coughlin is Grant, and they are a model of “doing things the right way”. Really? Some sort of Pod People transformation?
I don’t think Dallas is as bad off as people like to say and I don’t think the Pats are as perfect as people make them out to be. Zach Thomas gave an interview on Sirius NFL after he signed with his new team and they asked him about this topic – are guys working hard, are they leaderless, is there bad chemistry? He said it was a great locker room, guys worked as hard on that team as anywhere he’s been and there wasn’t any sign of leadership problems. He said left because he’s not cut out for the 3-4 but he hated that he had to leave.

well said
Cowboys certainly are much better than what most of the pundits and fans seem to think and I certainly can’t understand this misconception that the Cowboys got worse or didn’t improve themselves in the off season.
I mean as a collective bunch, I’d take RW (wr), Jenkins, Scandrick, Sensabaugh, Brooking, Olshansky and Kitna over T.O., Henry, Pacrat, Davis, RW (s), Ellis, T Johnson, Thomas and B Johnson any day and twice on Sundays.

I disagree that the Cowboys got worse
but the Eagles probably got better and the Giants’ defense did as well. Their offense remains a question mark for sure. The Skins D should be solid, but their offense may not be. Once again, it’ll be a tough division.
