Right Price for DWARE.

I just saw this on ESPN..Terrell Suggs has been made the richest LB in NFL. The Contract pays him a signing bonus of close to $33.1 Million. Here is the link http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4328590. My Question is what would be a right price for DWARE?  I am thinking him to be better than Suggs, but how far are the cowboys willing to go? I know there has been talking of more than $100 Million in total value, but is that realistic?

I'm not sure about the $100 Mill

i think he deserves maybe a slight bump over Suggs, say 6 years, 65mill, but with the 3-4 fluff years likes Haynesworth has to make it a 100 million dollar contract or something like that, where you and he know you will never get to the final 3 years.

The right price for Ware?

Anything he wants! You do not want to blow it with a guy like this and let him get away.

exactly

Jerry pretty much has to write him out a blank check and name his price, he’s clearly the best defensive player in the game, I personally don’t think it’s even close.

Obviously its not that straight forward

Both sides are still at an Impasse…I was wondering aloud why could that be? Its very clear both sides have different perceptions on the right value. Do you risk ostracizing others on the team by paying him an outlandishly huge contract?

I don't think that's a risk at all

Everyone knows he’s a super stud and the key to our defense.

I personally don’t think they are at an impasse, I’m willing to bet he gets signed during camp.

I think the good thing is that Ware isn't mad.

I’d be worried if he was mad that he didn’t get a deal yet, but he’s cool because he knows he’ll get paid. Class act.

I think the Suggs deal hurts the Cowboys

Clearly Ware is a much better player than Suggs. I didnt realize how much that was true until I looked at the stats.

Suggs (6-3, 260 lbs, 27 yo next season)
’03 – 12 sacks, 18 tackles
’04 – 10.5 sacks, 46 tackles
’05 – 8 sacks, 47 tackles
’06 – 9.5 sacks, 47 tackles
’07 – 5 sacks, 52 tackles
’08 – 8 sacks, 53 tackles
Career – .55 sacks/gm, 2.74 taackles/gm, 3 Pro Bowls, 1 2nd team AP, Def Rookie of Year.

D Ware (6-4, 247 lbs, 27 yo next season)
’05 – 8 sacks, 47 tackles
’06 – 11.5 sacks, 59 tackles
’07 – 14 sacks, 60 tackles
’08 – 20 sacks, 69 tackles
Career – .84 sacks/gm, 3.67 taackles/gm, 3 Pro Bowls, 2 1st team AP and 1 2nd team AP, Def Player of Year runner-up in ’08, 6th best single season sack total in NFL history in ’08.

They were both top 10 picks coming into the league and although Suggs has played two more seasons, they are roughly the same age. Thats about where the similarities end. Ware has by far outperformed Suggs. I was surprised the difference was this great.

If Suggs gets just over $10M over 6 years, we can probably expect 8 yrs/$94M for Ware. That’s my guess. He hinted he was going to ask for his number (94) in millions, and I will bet he gets it. My concern is that T-Sizzle’s contract was heavily front loaded. So, unlike most contracts (Haynesworth), there is a good chance he will play this out. I say I’m concerned, but honestly, if he performs like he did last year for the majority of the deal, it will be worth it. Does anyone think a 25 sack season is out of the question for Ware?

Wasn't Suggs hurt for some games between 05 and 08?

Also, don’t forget that Rex Ryan’s defense is different than Wade’s and the Ravens will generally ask their LB’s to cover more than the Cowboys will.

He has to be the highest paid defensive player in the league

Anything short of that and he forces his way out. Ware is a guy you sign to a long term contract and just hope that he does not get injured, because he will probably be a bargain at the ehnd of the contract

he is going to get more

in guarantees than Haynesworth. so expect about $45 in guarantees for a 6 year 84 mill contract.

DWare has 2 really big things going for him

Jerry can’t possibly let him get away. That’s some serious leverage. Add to that Jerry almost always over-pays for his own players.

Is this a rhetorical question? Whatever he wants.

Market dictates fee. Look at what Marion Barber got. Hell, I’m too lazy to look it up but somebody find whatever Emmitt got to end his hold-out and compare it to Barber’s contract.
