When it's all said and done.

Today I had an argument with a friend of mine who is a huge Eagles fan. He asked me my HONEST opinion as to how the NFC East records will look when the regular season is over, and it got me to thinking. My first instinct was to say Dallas will win with a record of such and such, but he asked me to be honest. So, I told him I would look at the schedules for each team and give him my opinion after I checked them out. obviously injuries throw everything off, so this is my perspective, barring major injuries and being completely unbiased. I'm not going to get crazy with explaining my choices just short and sweet.

Dallas:

We have a  good team this year, one that can compete with anybody, but I would not say it's an elite team until I see it on the field. I thought first about division games as those are the most important (though every game count yea). I was trying to think which road and home games we will win / lose. I finally decided that having a 3-3 record in the division was a very likely outcome. b/c of that I'll leave those games on the schedule untouched. the rest.....

2009 DALLAS COWBOYS SCHEDULE

9/13, @Tampa Bay, 1 pm             W - we are a more talented team than TB. Their offense is stagnant, ours should be able to put a  few points up, and that should be good enough.

9/20, NEW YORK GIANTS, 8:20 pm tickets

9/28 (Mon), CAROLINA, 8:30 pm       W - carolina is a good team, but it's Monday night at the new stadium, Romo usually performs well on MNF
10/4, @Denver, 4:15 pm   &   10/11, @Kansas City,  1 W, 1 L. -      I group these two games together, because they're both away games against worse teams. However, If we were going to come out and lay and egg, it may just happen during one of these game. We go 1-1

10/18, BYE

10/25, ATLANTA, 4:15 pm    W - This will be a tough game, but Atlanta is much better at home than on the road. I think we take this one. (pardon the font change)
11/1, SEATTLE, 1 pm               W - If we had to travel out west it may have been a tougher game, but they travel we're at home 1 game off a bye, I think we win, may be closer than expected though.

11/8, @Philadelphia, 8:20 pm

11/15, @Green Bay, 4:15 pm    L - we won last year in GB. the way were playing at this part of the season will dictate this one. It's not going to be freezing yet, but it will be cold and GB will be much improved. I think their defense holds us at the end we fall but it's close

11/22, WASHINGTON, 1 pm

11/26 (Thu), OAKLAND, 4:15 pm      W- they r just plain bad. hopefully our team has a better mindset than me however.

12/6, @New York Giants, 4:15 pm

12/13, SAN DIEGO, 4:15 pm      L - San Diego is so inconsistent it's hard to tell, but they play well at the end of the year, and usually make their push right around now. We lose in a low scoring affair

12/19 (Sat), @New Orleans, 8:20 pm     W - it may be me but I always though NO was overrated. They beat us a few years back though. But, I think our defense plays well and we win this on on Saturday night

12/27, @Washington, 8:20 pm
1/3, PHILADELPHIA, 1 pm

Dallas record - 10-6

Philadelphia:

no cute intro, they r always good. they usually start slow and end fast. They should be an improved team with desean aging a year, maclin being a threat and Westbrook healthy (given he is to start the year). They did lose dawkins though, so there D may lose a step, but they will still be a force. Philly plays tough against division foes. I think we split, I do think they win 3/4 though against NYG and WASH  so there division record is 4-2 I'll leave those games untouched.

2009 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES SCHEDULE

9/13, @Carolina, 1 pm    L - they usually start slow and it's carolina's home opener

9/20, NEW ORLEANS, 1 pm - their home opener & LF is a tough place to play.
9/27, KANSAS CITY, 1 pm   W -  more talented KC's offense struggles

10/4, BYE

10/11, TAMPA BAY, 1 pm    W -  They're better, defensive battle, but Westbrook wills them to win

10/18, @Oakland, 4:05 pm   W

10/26 (Mon), @Washington, 8:30 pm
11/1, NEW YORK GIANTS, 4:15 pm

11/8, DALLAS, 8:20 pm

11/15, @San Diego, 4:15 pm   L - Close game, making the west coast trips shows, SD wins.

11/22, @Chicago, 8:20 pm      W - Chicago still has no rec, and defensively aren't what they used to be.

11/29, WASHINGTON, 1 pm

12/6, @Atlanta, 1 pm            L - ATL plays well at home, eagles drop this one.

12/13, @New York Giants, 8:20 pm

12/20, SAN FRANCISCO, 1 pm   W

12/27, DENVER, 1 pm                W

1/3, @Dallas, 1 pm

Philly record - 11-5

New York:

Nobody talks about it, but they lost a lot. The big one being plaxico. they really struggled without him. They lose ward and some coaches and everybody seems not to notice. I did. I think they will be good, they get Osi back, but I think they take a step back this year. I still think they split 3-3 in the division though.

2009 NEW YORK GIANTS SCHEDULE

9/13, WASHINGTON, 4:15 pm
9/20, @Dallas, 8:20 pm

9/27, @Tampa Bay, 1 pm  W -  Tampa may pull off 1 win vs the NFC East but it won't be against NY

10/4, @Kansas City, 1 pm   L - cheifs surprise people at home.

10/11, OAKLAND, 1 pm      W - at home Oak is bad.

10/18, @New Orleans, 1 pm    L -maybe shockey has a big game?? They have enough O to win but does NO have the D??
10/25, ARIZONA, 8:20 pm        W - I think they beat the defending NFC champs at home

11/1, @Philadelphia, 4:15 pm

11/8, SAN DIEGO, 4:15 pm     W - They beat SD at home, the east coast trip takes its toll.

11/15, BYE

11/22, ATLANTA, 1 pm           L-  Atl wins behind a strong performance by Michael turner.
11/26 (Thu), @Denver, 8:20 pm     W - they get to Orton / Simms and take this one

12/6, DALLAS, 4:15 pm
12/13, PHILADELPHIA, 8:20 pm
12/21 (Mon), @Washington, 8:30 pm

12/27, CAROLINA, 1 pm     L - Carolina is a good road team, it's close but Carolina avenges that tough OT loss to NY
1/3, @Minnesota, 1 pm      W - beat minnesota at the last second to finish the year

NYG record  9-7

WASH : They always seem to think this year is when it changes. they got big Albert, and Deangelo Hall (at the midpoint of last year). Campbell had the best year of his career last year, but he doesn't throw many TD passes. The defensive always seems to be decent and the offense horribly inconsistent, but they play Dallas, Philly, and NY tough. The entire key is Clinton Portis, he makes them go, He had almost 1500 yards rushing and 9 TD's last year, they always seem to stick around the division race and challenge late for a playoff spot. I think the rest of the NFC East is better though, so in the division I'm giving them a 2-4 record. Again, I'll leave those games untouched.

2009 WASHINGTON REDSKINS SCHEDULE

9/13, @New York Giants, 4:15 pm

9/20, ST. LOUIS, 1 pm     W - St Louis embarassed them last year at home, won't happen again.
9/27, @Detroit, 1 pm       W - Detroit has a hard time winning ball games.
10/4, TAMPA BAY, 1 pm    L - Tampa seems to always give the redskins a good game, their Defense holds campbell and they win this in Wash.
10/11, @Carolina, 1 pm    L - Carolina at home is a tough game to win. Albert should help contain Williams, but even that might not be enough.
10/18, KANSAS CITY, 1 pm    W -  Home against a worse team coming of 2 losses, they win this one.

10/26 (Mon), PHILADELPHIA, 8:30 pm
11/1, BYE

11/8, @Atlanta, 1 pm      W - Atlanta is much better at home then the road. it's close but, Washington pulls it out thanks to Portis
11/15, DENVER, 1 pm    W - at home hey should win this going away but it might be closer than it should be.

11/22, @Dallas, 1 pm
11/29, @Philadelphia, 1 pm

12/6, NEW ORLEANS, 1 pm   L- NO gets up early and controlls the game, Wash falls at home
12/13, @Oakland, 4:05 pm      W - the trip out west shows, but they still win an ugly one in Oakland.

12/21 (Mon), NEW YORK GIANTS, 8:30 pm
12/27, DALLAS, 8:20 pm

1/3, @San Diego, 4:15 pm    W - Washington always seems to win when it will at lelast give them a shot at the playoffs, they do the same here, and beat SD even though its their 2nd west coast trip in 4 weeks.

Wash record 9-7

Again, this was just my opinion trying to be unbiased. What do you think? how will the records look when it's all said and done being completely honest????

Unbiased projections

Wow!! Those are good projections; however, you have the Giants finishing 9-7?? They were 12-4 last year and there defense got better this year. That is what I love about the NFL, you just DON’T know what is going to happen!! My projections below:

Giants 11-5
Cowboys 10-6
Eagles 10-6
Redskins 8-8

Giants, Boys, and Eagles make the post season!!

Playoffs

I totally agree this blog. If the Cowboys stay healthy, they can make it to the playoffs. When the Cowboys win a playoff game, the haters will say “well when was the last time they won the SuperBowl”, then if the Cowboys win the SuperBowl, then the haters will come up with something stupid, I will let you fill in the blank_________.

Wait a moment

How does what the eagles have done lately realate to legacy. Winning superbowls 13 ago is not lately because the superbowl started about 40 years ago.Lately is like the last Decade, in which the eagles gave gone to a conferance championship 5/10 times and gone to one superbowl. What other non-superbowl winning team has had this success recently. In legacy you could argue three NFL championships, one of the best running back of all time. (steve van beuran) Amazing wide recievers in the past. (harold Carmichael)(Mike Quick) More great quarterbacks. (Randall cunnuingham) (Ron Jaworski) (Norm Van Brocklin) how’s that for legacy and recent success.

Nobody....

…..And I mean nobody has a richer legacy of throwing conference title-game/Super Bowl-sealing picks than Donovan McNabb. How strange is it that he and Neil O’Donnell are actually the two least intercepted QB’s in NFL history? Both those dudes really do (did) save their best for last.

Nope.

Pick against the Rams on the Eagles’ very last possession.
Pick-six the other way against the Bucs when the Eagles were driving for the go-ahead score with about four minutes left.
Pick against the Patsies on the Eagles’ very last possession.
Hell, I didn’t even bring up the Panthers game because it’s even worse since McNabb was throwing picks left and right early to make sure the Eagles never even had a chance.

by MadMick on Jul 18, 2009 9:22 AM CDT up reply actions

Upon further review...

After doing a quick check, it appears I gave the Eagles more credit than they deserved and they were actually down 20-10 when McNabb killed them against the Bucs. At any rate, a pick that gets taken back 92 yards and accounts for a 14-point swing with under 5 minutes-left is a “game-blower.”

The AFC has been the power conference in this decade.

7 out of 9 Super Bowls. In other words, the Eagles have been like a bush league Bills. They couldn’t even close despite being in the by far crappier conference. When they finally did win an NFC Title game, it was against one of the most mediocre NFC Title game participants ever: the Falcons.
I would be ashamed of a team that showed up so small when it mattered the most; not boasting.

total guess but....

the division goes completely backwards. Either McNabb or westbrook suffer an early, season altering injury and after having lost tons of veteran leadership, they can’t recover (8-8). Giants can’t replace plax (9-7). Both of those teams suffer from the loss of their D coordinator. We are the same as ever – better than most teams, but not tough enough up front to win in december (11-5). Washington grabs the second playoff spot with a very physical, giants in 2007 type team (10-6 or 11-5).

Regardless, winning games in this division is gonna be a challenge.

New York won the division last year

They still deserve to be mentioned as the leading candidate to do so again this year. They were just like we were in 07. They were the team to beat, lost to an inferior team in the play offs. It happens.

So, I see it shaking out with NY winning the division, Dallas finishing 2nd, Philly close behind, and Washington last.

agreed, but for one main reason

their defense will keep them in the games. they will have a good running game and although their recieving corp leaves a lot to be desired, they have the experience and coaching to pull out a few close wins. but still yet I don’t think they are any better than 10-6.

And seriously

why the hell do we just assume Philly wins the division, and are apparently superior to our Boys? They look good on paper. Hot damn. Our ’08 Cowboys looked unbeatable on paper.

So many unknowns. Maybe Jackson doesn’t perform like he did last season? Maybe McNaab sucks all year long, as opposed to just half the season. The odds aren’t even in Westbrook’s favor to last a whole season. They have some draft picks who look impressive…yay, I guess. They haven’t proven anything yet.

one main thing about the eagles

McNabb and Westbrook are key to the team and both of those guys have been injury prone over the past few years. don’t underestimate the loss of Jimmy Johnson, although his replacement mentored under him for years, he is the unproven commodity. McNabb can be streaky as well. this is a tough tough division that will beat up on each other. there are three tough defenses to deal with and the eagles offense is more finesse than tough. so lets not wrap up the trophy for the eagles yet. this is a very unpredictable division.

Fewer unknowns than we have

plus, their head coach is the best of the bunch in the division.

The biggest unknown is how they react to the loss of Jim Johnson.

That said, player for player, position group for position group, they are the best in the East…and probably the NFC.

The good news is that the pre-season favorite to go all the way in the NFC hasn’t lived up to those expectations since T.O. was in Philly.

i don't see this at all

they’re the best cause of what? the only significant upgrade from a team that went 9-6-1, lost their leader (Dawkins)and DC (Johnson) and whose two most important offensive players are legitimately old and declining….was Peters. and hes been thoroughly ripped when facing the better/best pass rushers in the league.

The Eagles are a pretty good team in what is honestly a weak conference. They went 1-1 against the cards, 1-1 against us, 1-1 against washington and 2-1 against the giants last year. They beat a very average minny team and the same giants team we pounded despite horrific oline play. They lost a very close competitive game to the Cards like us. And consider they pay well EVERY december and are average EVERY september-november before you make the claim they played better at the end of the year.

I really do not see the love for philly. Are they a good team? sure. But I don’t see any reason aside from 44-6, which is irrelevant once the season starts, why they will finish with a better record than we will.

by foyesboys on Jul 17, 2009 6:50 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd have to say Coughlin>Reid at this point

And, do we know for a fact Philly’s QB is going to show up? Their receivers? Their running back? Is Jim Johnson actually going to do any coaching this year? Peters actually worth an arm and a leg? Has Andy Reid got his head on straight?

A lot of “unknowns” there, if you ask me. Philly is in no better shape than Dallas, imho. Giants, yeah, they’re most likely better right now than we are. Philly is grossly overrated, however.

Their is no player on that roster ANYBODY can put their faith in wholeheartedly

I won’t give any of them the benefit of the doubt, because they don’t deserve it. McNaab’s been hot and cold every year for the past several seasons, Westbrook’s old and injury prone, etc. etc. etc. Hell, even the head coach is a mess.

I’m actually floored people are so high on Philly. Do they have the potential to be a great team? Sure. Have they proven capable of achieving that? Absolutely not. Can’t really rest on the fact that your team got to the NFC Championship game. So did Green Bay in ‘07, and New Orleans in ’06. They both had mediocre seasons the next year. It’s very possible Philly could follow the same trend.

I think I read somewhere that Peters gave up 11.5 last year?

Sounds ridiculous, especially considering the hype built up around the guy, but if it’s true, it seems reasonable to believe Ware’s going to abuse the dude.

Yea

Peters has real trouble against speed rushers so we’ll get to McNabb, but we have to get him on the ground once we’re there.

If the Cowboys had made the same trade for Peters, all we would have heard from a certain’s team fans how his 11.5 sacks suck and gave up too much.

The Cowboys have questions about their OL, but at least they have played together for several years. The Eagles have some new talented individuals, but they have not worked together as an unit. I am just not sold on their line coming together quick enough, before McNabb gets crushed from getting blitzed alot. It would have been great to open the new stadium with the Eagles.

I agree with the giants at 9-7

They are still getting credit for their sb win but people forget that they went 11-1 to start last year and then their own december slump to finish 12-4. That was without Plaxico and one of those losses came at the hands of the boys.

Eli will get exposed this year and they will look eerily similar to the Ravens – tough D and stagnant O

Blasphemy!

Cowboys 16 – 0
Gints 0 – 12 – 4
Iggles 0 – 12 – 4
Skiz 0 – 12 – 4

The only reason they all don’t repeat a Detroit is because they play each other. I put them down for 0-0 ties in those.

Now THAT is objective.

But the Eagles may go 0-16 and be unable to tie the Giants/Skins (I had to think how you came up w/those records) unless McNabb worked on overtime rules this offseason.

Since both of the bird dropping lovers believe the Cowboys will go 5-11, how about if the Cowboys go 8-8 or better, you post on your blog that you love the Cowboys and Tony Romo.
I am giving you three games.

By the way, I am on record of saying the Cowboys, Eagles and Giants could finish in any order 1,2,3. I did predict the Cowboys 11-5 Eagles 10-6 and Giants 10-6.

We all know what your answer will be.

I will say it if they finished below 500. I don’t see how that can happen unless lots of injuries to kep plarers. Even if that happens, I will go to the other blogs. They better have 8th victory by Thanksgiving…………….LOL

I'd do that

because if they can’t go 8-8 they really DO suck.

If I were an Eagle fan, Giant fan, I would select my team to win also. However, I realize how tough the competition is and one little thing can make the difference between first and third. Saying the Cowboys will go 5-11 is based on pure hate or lack of football knowledge. I expect the last game of the season to decide the division between the Cowboys and Eagles.

by RealAlbertEinstein on Jul 18, 2009 7:34 PM CDT reply actions

Honestly

To be quite frank, the NFC East is wide open this year. All the teams have major questions going in, and it is going to come down to which team can adapt and what questions will work out. Philly has a major question with the performance of a completely revamped offensive line, as well as potentially losing their DC(not to mention their best coach on the team). The Giants have serious issues at WR, and they really struggled down the stretch last year. The Skins utterly lacked a pass rush last year so they went out and got one of the best DT’s in the game, and spent a high draft pick on someone expected to excel at rushing the passer. And Dallas needs to prove that they can consistently field a winning team, as they are one of the hottest and coldest teams in the league.

All in all, the division is entirely up for grabs. But since this is a prediction topic, lets say:

Giants: 11-5
Eagles: 10-6
Dallas: 9-7
Redskins 7-9

by Zach22 on Jul 19, 2009 6:04 PM CDT reply actions

The giants

went 1-3 in their last 4. They really missed Plax. I think they drop off more than just one game.

by iCowboy on Jul 19, 2009 7:11 PM CDT up reply actions

I hate the Giants so much I always tend to lowball them.

I think it all depends on how dominant their O-line can remain despite not boasting any dominant or really even any great offensive weapons. I think they’re still rough-and-tumble enough to win plenty of 17-13 games but we shall see. I can’t see them being a real contender unless a guy like Manningham or Sinorice Moss and fat freaking chance of that from where I’m sitting.

by MadMick on Jul 19, 2009 7:18 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess Amani or Plax were never dominant but any stretch.

But they were consistent 1,000-yard performers throughout their career. Amani Toomer is twice the player an airhead like Patty Crayt will ever be. So I guess the real question is do they even have that many real reliable receivers?

by MadMick on Jul 19, 2009 7:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Meh

I just think they have a chance to win a lot of closer games, and in reality, their schedule isn’t that hard. I say they probably split Philly and Dallas, sweep Skins, and drop games to Minnesota, Atlanta, and San Diego. They may lose another along the way, but in reality it isn’t that bad.

And honestly, if Manningham gets a chance to play, he will become a very solid WR. I was angry that the Giants got him on draft day, as I wanted him to be a Cowboy.

by Zach22 on Jul 20, 2009 7:42 AM CDT up reply actions

REALLY miss plax

plax is very good possession receiver
ELI’s one good strength was the confidence to throw it up for plaxy

they leave it up to some very questionable guys. way more questionable than dallas.
and they dont witten and bennett

however they still got jacobs and a very mean defense (which actually will be better in its front 7)
hopefully most teams can wear them down over a long game and keep them outta the hunt

by fuji1232 on Jul 22, 2009 5:14 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think

you can ever be sold on a rookie receiver unless its Calvin Johnson. Mario could tun out like David Terrel or Steve Breaston. You just never know. I just don’t think Eli Manning can lose Plaxico and Amani, the only top two recievers he’s ever known, and just pick up where he left off, using a rookies and unproven guys. I hate the giants, but do respect what they’ve done recently, I just don’t think Eli is good enough to make his receivers better, which is what will need to happen.
