Cowboys Rookie Tackle Robert Brewster Injured
Bad news for rookie tackle Robert Bewster. From Mickey Spags:
Third-round draft choice Robert Brewster has suffered a torn pectoral muscle while lifting weights in the post-minicamp training program, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed, and the subsequent surgery to repair the injury leaves him unavailable for the start of training camp. The Cowboys are unsure if the offensive lineman from Ball State can return in time to become active for the 2009 season.
[snip]
The Cowboys could place Brewster on injured reserve if they think he has no chance of getting back this season, which would open up a roster spot. Or they can buy some time by placing him on PUP (physically unable to perform) before the cut to 53 which would afford him another six to 10 weeks of recovery time during the season without counting against the 53-man roster or being lost for the year.

Looks like the Cowboys terrible luck on drafting O-line continues at least for the moment...
If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.
wasn't going to get any playing time this year anyhow
and now we have an extra roster spot. Just looking on the bright side.
I wasn't expecting much from him for at least 2 years, if anything..
The bad luck contiunes on drafting OL …Thats a 4 to 6 month recovery time fellows. Just place him on IR and be done with it for this year, because he won’t be able to contribute anything this season.
Are ya kiddin' me?
Brewster would have been given every oppty to play this year. I saw him play in college and the guy is really good – technically pretty good and with an edge to him. This is a setback as that injury takes time to heal properly – oh well…btw, anyone know how Kosier doing these days. Someone said they saw him with a boot on.

He would've been second or third on the depth chart
Which means he would’ve played very little…He had a zero percent chance of beating out a starter. Even his agent said he didn’t expect him to play much this season..
Don’t know about Kosier, but I expect Holland to be the opening day starter..
Yeah
A friend of mine – by no means a professional scout – saw him at rookie camp and said he was nowhere near ready for anything. I’m hoping he was right because this just stinks.

Ghost - thanks for the clarification
I’ll defer to you since you seem to have the insider scoop on this guy. In college, he was a friggin’ monster with that mean streak you like to see. Someday, you’ll hear the story of when he toppled the entire gatorade table on the sidelines. I see some Naughty Nate in ’em.

Are there really any...
offensive or defensive lineman that are drafted in the first three rounds that didn’t look badass in college?

Not really, but this guy...
really IS a bad ass, not just being a guy that looked like one. Immortal: you’ll see, before you know it, he’ll be leading sweeps and lifting dudes out of their shoes. I see a lot of Biggs in him. Be nice now; he reads this stuff.

Sucks we didn't even get to see a little bit of him in practice or preseason.
Oh well, at least we have some talent to look forward to in the future.

He isn't even signed yet
so what happens with that? Do we sign him now and then put him on IR or what?
I wasnt ready for this kind of news.

whoaaaaaaa
guy isnt sign, wasnt excpeted to start, now he hurt. Wow man.!!! Might be able to bring in another gaurd or make way for another free agent they had their eyes on.
Something Different
Instead of regurgitation content and news from other sites, how about some fresh content?
Tex would like to see a take about the recent draft woes pertaining to the offensive line. The Boys Blog was so damn good because it wasn’t a summary of news found elsewhere. It wasn’t a promo site. There was fresh content and detailed analysis of the many problems plaguing the franchise. Xs and Os, not an RSS feed.
There still is that...
But there is also other content as well.
I didn’t even think you read the posts, you really don’t ever comment on them anyways. You just go off into Texland and talk about whatever you want.

I asked a good friend of mine who did my two injuries..
He said it’s a 4 to 6 month recovery time…depending on certain factors.. ie., the extent of the tear, etc..it could be more or less. His pec muscle will probably never be 100 percent again. IR he goes…
Obviously
A torn pectoral muscle is bad. I would obv need to evaluate him to know exactly how bad it is, but he is most likely done for the season.
Cowboys fan since 1978.. I was 3 years old
I read that he also had a shoulder injury.
Would that have caused the pectoral tear?

Also depends on the type of shoulder injury
If it was a subluxation/dislocation, you should stay away from bench press because it put too much stress on the anterior shoulder

That makes sense.
Thanks, Mullin!

I think Brewster should go on PUP
Doesn’t the designation of IR mean he wouldn’t be able to participate in practices the rest of the season. He’d be limited to rehab and strength/conditioning only.
Is that right?
Training Camp '09 = Mega Thunder Dome....80 men enter, 53 men leave.
bummer
however, i figure from now until the end of the season there will be a weekly injury… now how serious it is, or who it to, or if it REALLY affects the team is a different story… and as much as you never want anyone to get hurt, at least is not a freak thing that happened to a starter or a possible major contributor… he would have to be some kind of talent to see any playing time as a rookie…
Torn Pec
Is the worst, Paul Pinegar at Fresno State tore his out for the season and was never the same. Arm went from strong to water pistol..
I thought usually is season ending injury, especially this close to the season.
My gut says IR.
What I read!

That does make it very interesting to see what kind of contract or settlement he gets
If the injury is career limiting I would think they arrive at some kind of settlement rather than sign him to a contract.

Stick with signing FA’s I say…we have better luck..

Damnit...not available. I'll have to make a trip to the liquor store to see if they carry
such alien brew. All this time I thought Budweiser would appease these gods..
Can someone explain to me how easy it is to get this injury from weight lifting?
Just seems that these boys should be doing some combination of heavy weights / low rep … and lighter weights / higher rep … if they do this their muscles won’t get so overly tight as to be susceptible to tears.
It just amazes me that this type of injury happens to people under the supervision of so many professionals.
I’m gonna sacrifice a small bottle of tequila to the Gods of injury, may they pack up and head to the northeast… anywhere up there will be fine with me.

Look on the bright side.
If he had actually played this year, he would have been terrible. The guys a project, and will likely always be a project.
first you say look on the bright side...
then you say he’ll likely always be a project?
what’s the dark side?

Weird
It sounded like this just happened but Archer is reporting this
Brewster, a third-round pick, had surgery earlier this month to repair a torn pectoral muscle suffered in off-season workouts after the June mini-camp.

should go into IR
Then he can study and rehab without the pressure of dressing out. All he has is time anyway.
Ugh
Terrible news. We need all the O line depth we can get, and now this. He was expected to be Columbo’s back up, correct? Wonder who takes his place now…
Epic Fail since 1985
we badly need OL bodies, for back up, for pushing the starters, we ended up drafting only one and
he is lost for the season! Unbelievable. I guess next year JJ will draft 10 linemen and sign another 15 FA’s
At least it was now and not half way through camp,
the team will be able to adjust to a third string player getting hurt this early in the season without much trouble.
Question for Dunk:
can I make Brewster my pet cat NOW?
(please?)
Tar Heels = National Champs in Basketball ... #1 in Baseball ... Top 10 this year in Football?
Oh have at!
He’s not seeing the field this year anyway. But maybe warn his family? You know, for whatever other disaster now hangs over his head…
Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig loves it.
Brewster was going to be red shirted any way
I think he should do what Colombo did after we signed him a few years ago, just concentrate on building up his lower body and come into camp next year much stronger physically.
In Romo we Trust
But maybe ease up
on his upper body?
Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig loves it.
That's not exactly bad news.
The guy wasn’t going to see the field this year anyway, so it allows them to retain their project while freeing up a spot on the 53 man roster. Plus, now maybe Isdaner or Bright stick around and prove themselves where they wouldn’t have had as much of an opportunity before.

That's true.
Getting Brew back will be like an extra rookie next year, except he will have a year’s experience of training and learning from a professional staff.
