Greg Isdaner?
1st of all, I would like to start with the fact that your blog has ridiculous requirements and rules that I had to agree to in order to join. I wanted to post this yesterday but couldn't because I had to wait an entire day before I could post anything here.
Now, on to the real reason I'm here. The Cowboys drafted Robert Brewster in the 3rd round of this year's draft, who was just recently lost to a pectoral injury for the season. This was the only O-Lineman you all drafted this year in an attempt to address a glaring need: depth and youth on an aging OL unit. Despite this setback, your 'Boys are also looking at a couple of UFA's, one of which is Greg Isdaner.
Greg played guard at West Virginia and started for the three years he attended the school. He earned freshman All-American honors starting at LG and he is now fighting for a spot on your team. He comes from Gladwyne, PA, and played ball at my rival high school, so it goes without saying that he would have loved to play for the Eagles. However, given our current depth and youth on the O-Line, he decided to try and make it with a team that he knew he might make. Enter the Cowboys. In that this guy is one of my friends' cousins, I was just wondering if any of you had any info or scouting news to report on the guy because I'd like to know if he's got a shot at making it in the NFL.
RIP Jim Johnson. ESPN did you wrong my friend.

Hey RIP26, what did BSPN do or say to disrespect the late Jim Johnson?
Btw, I’m sorry for your loss.
Johnson was a class act and innovative D-Coordinator… And he most definitely deserves to go to the Hall some day.
For da record, i hate BSPN.

they were all over Favre and Vick, JJ was just a sideline, like on most other media outlets. RIP.

I noticed the same thing
It was ridiculous. Who cares about a retired QB and two criminals (Vick and Plax) compared to losing an all-time great d-coord?

yea it was bs
however, it has come to my attention that they did a similar thing when Gene Upshaw died as well but then came back a few days later and did a special on him. I figure that ESPN needs a few days over there to come up with video footage of Johnson and his defenses in order to put something together (although wouldnt you think that ESPN would have forseen JJ’s possible passing and prepared SOMETHING just in case? idk…)

I wondered that too,
that they wanted time to put something together, but really I think it was about flash over importance. Oh well.

in response to favre, vick, and plax
they are all regarded as flashy news that grabs the attention of the entire nation whereas the more pertinent news of JJ’s death only grabbed those he had an impact on (Eagles, the Beast, family, friends, etc.)..

I rather have T Bright – plus he came from a pass happy team – I say that right there gives him a leg up

Travis Bright is also super strong
but he is also like 25 I believe, maybe 26.

I would pick him to make the 53
particularly if Brewster ends up on IR. One of those FA’s will likely make the roster.
I like Sporting News Warroom – and they had Isdaner as the #3 rated Guard in the draft. This is the link, but I believe its subscription so you may not be able to get there:
http://warroom.sportingnews.com/nfl/draft/2009/players/8978.html
I don’t want to break the posting / copyright rules, so here are some extracts from the SN profile:
Strengths: Is a highly competitive blocker… Has the athleticism and strength to reset and anchor a bull rusher … Does a good job of making quick pulls….
Weaknesses: Does not deliver a hard punch and has short arms…. Has trouble adjusting to block a target off his track..in space.
Bottom line: Many of our scouts were surprised when Isdaner he declared for the draft early, but saw why after evaluating him on film…. He had an impressive college career and projects to do the same at the next level. While he …won’t wow anyone at the NFL combine, people around the NFL know and like him. He may be drafted later than we have him rated, but Isdaner has all the tools to become a long-term starting guard in the NFL.
Here’s hoping.

Travis Bright
Strengths:
Ideal size and bulk…Strong and powerful…Violent initial punch…Gets a great push in the run game…Stout at the point of attack…Has a killer instinct…Smart and aware..Mature..Hard worker…Lots of experience
Weaknesses:
Lacks great athleticism…Not real light on his feet…Doesn’t always play with proper leverage…Struggles in space and range is limited…Didn’t play in a pro style attack…Very stiff…Older than the average prospect
Will be a 26-year-old rookie … Size and top-notch intangibles give him a shot
Islander
Strengths:
Adequate height…Excellent bulk…Strong and powerful…Very smart with great awareness…Understands angles and positioning…Uses his hands well…Technically sound…Good work ethic…Lots of experience
Weaknesses:
Has short arms…Not stout at the point of attack…Doesn’t get a great push in the run game…Not very light on his feet…Stiff and isn’t very agile…Substandard balance…Struggles in space…Durability concerns
A terrific college player who doesn’t necessarily project all that well to the next level…Would probably fit best in a zone blocking scheme.

I think both guys have a decent shot
Bright sounds like the better fit as a backup OG. Guess we’ll find out in the next month.
