Steve McNair dead

From ESPN

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been killed, a source has confirmed to ESPN.com.

McNair, police said, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville, News Channel 5 in Nashville reported.

McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL, 11 were with the Tennessee Titans. He played his final two years with the Baltimore Ravens, retiring after the 2007 season.

McNair was picked third overall in the 1995 draft out of Alcorn State by the then Houston Oilers.

In my opinion

one of the classiest guys to play the game, both on and off the field.

My prayers go out to his family.

I can't believe it

I watched this guy his entire career and always respected the hell out of him. What a shock.

Jeezus

Very very sad news

I always liked him, and really respected his game. One tough SOB.

Steve McnNair

He was easily one of my favorite non-Cowboys players. He was tough as nails, but he was also quiet and had a whole lot of class. This is certainly a sad day for the NFL and my condolences to his family and friends.

If I had a nickel for every Super Bowl the Eagles have won, I would have zero nickels.

R.I.P Air McNair

Great player! Definite Hall of Famer.

Wow! Crazy.

Is this being seen as a homicide? I heard first that it was a double-suicide.

All eyes on Free.

Multiple? Damn!

I read that the 20-year-old girl woman was arrested last week for DUI w/McNair in the car. She told the cops her eyes were bloodshot not cuz she’d been drinking but cuz she “was high”.

All eyes on Free.

Something is not adding up here....

First, McNair is hanging with a girl 16 years younger than him, who apparently is just a friend..sure.. McNair RENTS the Condo with the best friend who found them dead. Reports were McNair was seen in the downtown area earlier that day with the 20-year-old female.

A couple of scenarios here. He is cheating on his wife with the 20-year-old. She wants him to leave his wife which he refuses. She murders him then kills herself. Other scenario may that he pissed off the wrong people. Drugs or maybe he had gambling debt he never repaid. They are murdered gangster style and made to look like a murder suicide……I’m leaning toward the first scenerio. Either way sounds like he was involved in activities his wife wasn’t aware of. I don’t know about you, but my wife wouldn’t care for me hanging with females 16 years younger than myself…

here
Two days ago, Nashville police arrested Kazemi on a DUI charge while driving a 2007 Escalade registered to her and McNair. McNair was in the front seat, but didn’t break the law and was allowed to leave by taxi.

The arrest affidavit said Kazemi had bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol on her breath, but refused a breathalyzer test, saying "she was not drunk, she was high.’’

Holy $#@!

Unbelievable….I hadn’t heard m/s. I just read that he had been shot and killed. What a classy guy he was. A sad day….

Just heard a couple hours ago.

He was one of the few QBs that the first word that comes to my mind is “tough”. Great player and I’d always heard equally great person. So sad and my prayers go to his family.

Are there ANY good guys left in sports?

I mean, really, are there? For sure? For abosolute CERTAIN good guys? How can you know for sure any more. No one would have suspected this from him, so we can’t be sure of anyone. I wouldn’t suspect this from Jason Witten, or Peyton Manning or anyone else of that ilk, but how can we know for sure. It’s jaded I know, but you really CAN’T trust anyone these days.

I don't think you can say McNair was a bad guy

It just sounds like he made some really bad choices of late and it looks like they cost him his life. Nobody knows all the details yet and I certainly am not excusing his infidelity but to characterize him as a “bad guy” seems to conveniently forget all the postives about him and his life.

He wasn't a Saint my any means....
It should have reminded us to exercise restraint before assuming we know “our heroes” and liberally tossing around Man of the Year tributes

My thoughts exactly…

So he wasn't a saint

but that doesn’t mean he was a bad guy. He did a lot of charity work while in the league and made a postive impact on a lot of lives.

It appears he didn’t extend that positive impact to his own wife and family which is a real shame but, again, we’ll never really know what was going on in his home.

I can remember reading years back about McNair

being chagred with spouse abuse and then his wife subsequently dropped the charges so all of this shouldn’t really be a shock to anyone.

I always thought of McNair as being a great qb and football player, but he had his issues like a lot of players.

All I can find is DUI and a gun charge.

by I_miss_Switzer on Jul 6, 2009 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

it was years ago

and I can’t remember where I read or saw it, but the point is that if you’re going to play fire, there is a risk you’re going to get burned.

It’s tragic, but happens more often than you think. We just know about McNair’s case because he was a famous athlete.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Moon

I can’t find anything. That is a serious allegation to make.

by I_miss_Switzer on Jul 6, 2009 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

it might have been Moon

I probably got his DUI and gun charge mixed up with the domestic violence charge, like I said I think it was about 5 years ago.

It is hard to keep

the drunk drivers and the wife beaters straight sometimes.

I also remember reading Mcnair was involved with a domestic incident with his wife

He was also charged in 2003 for DUI.

Reports now are his girlfriend bought the gun two days ago so it’s more and more likely a muder suicide. Looks like Mcnair told his girlfriend his divorce was finalized or would be and when that turned to be a lie things went bad. The sister of his girlfriend told the media her sister was led to believe the divorce was finalized two weeks ago. Either his wife had no clue her husband was involved with another women or chose to ignore it like some celebirty wifes do. Reports are Mcnair’s wife had no knowledge of the other women and she had no idea where he was for three days prior to his death.

Either way the man was a cheating fool with a girl 16 years younger than himself. They said his girlfriend was a waitress at a resturant Steve, his wife and four kids went to often……

I agree but

I agree. I liked McNair. I thought he was one heck of a QB. couregeous. strong. smart and one of the first multi-threat QBs with his arm, accuracy and running. He as also a very good citizen. however, it goes to show that no one is infallable. he made a mistake. he was having an afair, where reports are that his wife is quite distraught and surprised at the news. There are pictures of him on vacation with the girl and apprantley she had been telling her family and friends that McNair is getting a divorce and they are going to get married.

now, we don’t know if she was mental or if steve had made false promises, but the fact that he was involved with someone, without anyone close to him knowing shows how sometimes our athletes feel untouchable, indistructable, superman like. it manifests itself in many way, such as carrying a gun, driving 100 mph, doing dog fights and having affairs, when they are married and have children.

I feel sorry for Steve and his family. I also feel sorry for the girl who was only 20 and lost her life, as it was beginning. this affair doesn’t diminish steve in football and what he accomplished or what he did for his community, but it also didn’t excuse him from doing what he did.

Mcnair never knew what hit him, which if anything was good....

The guy screwed around with the wrong nut job and paid with his life…..real sad.
